Abstract

The fluidising plate (5) for fluidising a powder coating powder using a fluidising gas is made of a material permeable to the gas but not to the powder. The fluidising plate has an electrode (10) of electrically conductive material to remove static electricity from the coating material and reduce the risk of ignition of the air-powder mixture.

Description

The invention relates to a fluidizing device for fluidizing a coating powder according to the preamble of claim 1.

In powder coating systems, the coating powder is usually transported in a fluidized state as a powder-air mixture, wherein the powder-air mixture behaves similar to a liquid and therefore can be easily promoted. The generation of the powder-air mixture is also referred to as fluidization and is usually carried out in a powder chamber, as for example from the two generic documents US 4,615,649 and WO 94/22589 is known. The powder chamber is in this case filled with the coating powder, wherein the bottom of the powder chamber consists of a porous material which is permeable to air, but is powder-impermeable. By the bottom of the powder chamber, which is also referred to as the fluid bottom, compressed air is blown into the powder chamber to produce the powder-air mixture, as a result of which the coating powder is fluidized.

The fluid bottom is usually made of an electrically insulating material, because the electrostatically charged powder dust particles would otherwise be attracted to the fluid bottom, which could lead to contamination on the fluid bottom.

A disadvantage of the above-described powder chamber for fluidizing the coating powder is the fact that between the electrostatically charged coating powder and the electrically insulating fluid floor or in the reverse direction electrical discharges can occur, which can lead to an ignition of the powder-air mixture in a coating powder with a high particulate matter and a correspondingly low minimum ignition energy.

Furthermore, it is off US 5 518 546 a fluidization device is known in which two electrodes are arranged in the powder chamber. The one electrode is in this case arranged within the powder chamber in the upper region and is charged during operation to high voltage. The other electrode, however, is disposed within the powder chamber in the lower region above the fluid bottom and electrically grounded. In operation, an electric field is formed between these two electrodes, whereby the powder particles in the powder chamber are charged electrostatically and therefore better adhere to the workpiece to be coated, which is therefore electrically grounded. However, the grounded electrode serves only as an earth electrode for the electrical charging of the powder particles and does not prevent their electrostatic charge, which is caused by the electrically insulating fluid bottom. In addition, the grounded electrode is a separate component, which increases the production cost.

Furthermore are out DE-OS 27 04 714 . US Pat. No. 3,660,136 . US 4,078,519 and DE 32 37 830 A1 Fluidizing devices with high voltage electrodes known. However, the high-voltage electrodes are not used here for the discharge of static electricity, but just the other way have the task to charge the powder particles in the powder chamber electrostatically, so that the powder particles adhere better to the workpiece to be coated, which is therefore electrically grounded.

Furthermore, it is off WO 03/097247 A1 Another conventional fluidization device is known which has no electrode assembly.

Finally are off DE 26 50 338 A1 and US-B1-6 506 455 Fluidizing devices are known in which the coating powder is charged electrostatically so that it subsequently adheres better to the components to be coated and electrically grounded. In these publications, the coating powder is therefore charged electrostatically, which increases the risk of inflammation.

The invention is therefore based on the object to improve the known fluid soil described above in that inflammations of the powder-air mixture are reliably prevented by electrical discharges between the coating powder and the fluid bottom or in the reverse direction, even with a high particulate matter.

This object is achieved by a fluidization device according to the invention according to claim 1.

The invention includes the general technical teaching to provide an electrode assembly, is derived via the static electricity from the coating powder before the stored amount of charge sufficient to exceed the ignition energy of the powder-air mixture in an electrical discharge.

The fluidization body according to the invention thus has an electrode arrangement which is integrated into the fluidization body. A distinction must be made between electrode arrangements, which are structurally separated from the fluidizing body and arranged spatially spaced.

The electrode arrangement may be formed, for example, as a grid, wherein the grid-shaped electrode arrangement is preferably embedded in the surface of the fluidization body. In a plate-shaped fluidizing body according to the above-mentioned prior art, the grid-shaped electrode arrangement is preferably arranged on the side of the powder-air mixture.

Preferably, the grid-shaped electrode arrangement divides the surface of the fluidization body into a plurality of grid surfaces, each having a size of less than 500 cm 2 , 250 cm 2 , 100 cm 2 , 50 cm 2 , 25 cm 2 , 20 cm 2 , 16 cm 2 or 4 cm 2 have. This dimensioning of the lattice-shaped electrode arrangement is advantageous, since in this way it is also possible to use coating powders whose ignition energy is less than 3 mJ.

In another variant of the invention, however, the electrode arrangement for discharging static electricity has at least one pointed electrode which is guided through the porous material of the fluidization body, the free tip of the electrode preferably protruding into the powder chamber.

In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the electrode arrangement even has a multiplicity of pointed electrodes which project through the porous material of the fluidising body and are distributed over the fluidizing body, so that the pointed electrodes form quasi a needle carpet.

The individual pointed electrodes of this needle carpet each include free surfaces of the fluidizing body, the size of the free surfaces preferably being less than 500 cm 2 , 250 cm 2 , 100 cm 2 , 50 cm 2 , 25 cm 2 , 20 cm 2 , 16 cm 2 or 4 cm 2 . This offers the advantage that it is also possible to use coating powder which has an ignition energy of less than 3 mJ.

In another variant of the invention, however, the electrode arrangement has a plurality of electrode rings, which are arranged on the surface of the fluidization body and electrically connected to each other. The electrode rings may be, for example, circular or elliptical, but also non-circular configurations of the electrode rings are possible.

Preferably, the electrode rings each include an annular area of less than 500 cm 2 , 250 cm 2 , 100 cm 2 , 50 cm 2 , 25 cm 2 , 20 cm 2 , 16 cm 2 or 4 cm 2 . This in turn offers the advantage that it is also possible to use a coating powder which has an ignition energy of less than 3 mJ.

It has already been pointed out above in the discussion of the prior art that the porous material of the fluidization body is preferably electrically insulating in order to prevent attraction between the material of the fluidization body and the electrostatically charged powder dust particles. For the same reason, the porous material of the fluidization body according to the invention is also electrically insulating.

It should also be mentioned that the invention is not limited to plate-shaped fluidization bodies, as described in the cited prior art.

Rather, the fluidizing body may for example also be tubular, wherein the fluidizing air is blown from the interior of the tubular fluidizing body through the wall outwardly into the powder chamber.

With such a tubular design of the fluidizing body, the electrode arrangement for discharging the static electricity can be arranged, for example, on the jacket surface of the tubular fluidizing body, with the various variants described above being possible.

In this case, the coating powder used has a specific ignition energy, while between the coating powder and the fluid bottom or in the reverse direction electrical discharges can occur, which have a maximum discharge by design. The construction of the fluid bottom and the other parts of the fluidizing device is in this case preferably designed so that the maximum discharge energy is less than the ignition energy of the coating powder, so that discharge-induced ignitions of the powder-air mixture are prevented. This can be achieved, for example, by virtue of the fact that the electrode arrangement for discharging static electricity has sufficiently many pointed electrodes from the coating powder. The maximum discharge energy in the fluidization device according to the invention can also be reduced by reducing the free area between the individual electrodes (for example, pointed electrodes, ring electrodes) of the electrode arrangement.

Preferably, the maximum discharge energy is below 3 mJ, so that coating powder with a high particulate matter and a correspondingly small ignition energy of less than 3 mJ can be used.

In order to dissipate the static electricity from the coating powder, the electrode arrangement in the fluidizing device according to the invention is earthed or is maintained at least at a near-electrical potential. Preferably, the electrical voltage between the electrode assembly and ground is thus in the range between 0 V and 10 kV, with any maximum values within this interval being possible. For example, the voltage may be less than 5kV, 1kV, 500V, 250V, 100V or 20V. In contrast to the cited prior art, the electrode arrangement of the fluidization body according to the invention is therefore not at high voltage potential.

Furthermore, the invention also encompasses a complete powder coating installation with such a fluidization device according to the invention and the use of a fluidization body according to the invention for fluidizing a coating powder in a coating installation.

The cross-sectional view in FIG. 1 shows a fluidization device 1 according to the invention for fluidizing a coating powder in a powder coating plant, wherein the powder coating plant can be carried out conventionally.

The fluidization device 1 consists essentially of a bottom part 2, a cylindrical wall 3 placed on the bottom part 2, a lid 4 and a fluidization bottom 5 which is fixed between the wall 3 and the bottom part 2.

The cover 4, the wall 3 and the Fluidisierungsboden 5 in this case limit a powder chamber 6, in which there is a fluidized powder-air mixture in operation.

Below the Fluidisierungsbodens 5 is located in the bottom part 2, a fluid air chamber 7, in which via a fluid air line 8 compressed air is blown.

The Fluidisierungsboden 5 consists of a porous, air-permeable, but powder-impermeable material, so that from the fluid air chamber 7 compressed air into the powder chamber 6 is blown and thereby fluidized located in the powder chamber 6 coating powder.

In the wall 3 of the powder chamber 6, a powder extraction line 9 is arranged, via which the fluidized powder-air mixture can be sucked out of the powder chamber 6.

In addition, a vent is arranged in the wall 3 of the powder chamber 6, which is not shown for simplicity and allows a discharge of excess compressed air from the powder chamber 6.

FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the fluidization tray 5, the fluidization device 1 shown in Figure 1.

It can be seen from this illustration that a grid-shaped electrode arrangement 10 is embedded on the upper side of the fluidization floor 5, the electrode arrangement 10 of the fluidization floor 5 being electrically grounded in order to discharge electrostatic electricity from the coating powder located in the powder chamber 6. This prevents the coating powder contained in the powder chamber 6 from charging to such an extent that discharges can occur with a discharge energy which exceeds the ignition energy of the coating powder used, which could lead to ignition of the powder-air mixture.

In this case, the electrode arrangement 10 is designed such that a coating powder with an ignition energy of less than 3 mJ can be used. The maximum discharge energy is therefore less than 3 mJ in the fluidization device 1 and is below the powder-specific ignition energy. For this purpose, the grid-shaped electrode assembly 10 respectively Grid surfaces having a size of less than 250 cm 2 .

This in FIG. 3 illustrated embodiment of a fluidization according to the invention is largely consistent with that described above and in FIG. 2 illustrated embodiment, so that to avoid repetition of the above description to FIG. 2 is referenced, wherein the same reference numerals are used for corresponding components.

A special feature of this embodiment is that the electrode assembly 10 consist of a plurality of ring electrodes, which are embedded on the surface of the Fluidisierungsbodens 5 on the powder chamber 6 side facing and electrically connected to each other, wherein the entire electrode assembly 10 is electrically grounded.

The individual ring electrodes each include an annular area which is smaller than 250 cm 2 , so that it is also possible to use a coating powder whose ignition energy is less than 3 mJ.

That in the FIGS. 4A and 4B illustrated embodiment of a fluidization according to the invention also largely agrees with that described above and in FIG. 2 illustrated embodiment, so that to avoid repetition largely to the above description FIG. 2 is referenced, wherein the same reference numerals are used for corresponding components.

A peculiarity of this embodiment is that the electrode assembly consists of a plurality of needle-shaped electrodes 11 axially through the fluidization bottom 5, wherein the tip of the electrodes 11 protrudes on the powder chamber 6 side facing the Fluidisierungsbodens 5 from the Fluidisierungsboden 5 in order to derive static electricity from the coating powder located in the powder chamber 6 can.

On the opposite side, the pointed electrodes 11 each have an electrode head 12, wherein the electrode heads 12 of the individual electrodes 11 of the electrode assembly 10 are interconnected by electrical connections 13.

In this case, the electrode arrangement 10 thus virtually forms an electrode carpet which prevents excessive and safety-endangering charging of the powder-air mixture located in the powder chamber 6.

FIG. 5 shows an alternative embodiment of a tubular fluidization body 14, wherein the fluidization body 14 has a wall 15 made of a porous material which is permeable to air, but powder-impermeable. For the fluidization of coating powder, in this case, compressed air is thus blown through the wall 15 outwardly into a powder chamber from the interior of the tubular fluidizing body 14.

The outer circumferential surface of the tubular fluidizing body 14 is covered in this case with a grid-shaped electrode assembly consisting of circumferentially extending electrodes 16 and axially extending electrodes 17, wherein this grid-shaped electrode assembly is electrically grounded.
