Abstract

The invention concerns a so-called capstan winch ( 1 ) comprising drums ( 2, 3 ) driving a cable (C) and provided with a peripheral wall ( 22, 32 ) around which are strung independent peripheral rings ( 40-45, 50-55 ). Said rings are provided with a peripheral groove designed to receive the cable (C) and are made of an elastic material so as to allow both the cable (C) to be driven and a relative sliding movement between the peripheral rings ( 40-45, 50-55 ) and the peripheral wall ( 22, 32 ), the relative sliding movement being of amplitude substantially equal to longitudinal deformation of the cable (C), when it is subjected to tension stresses. Claims (9)

  1. Winch of the type referred to as a capstan winch, comprising at least two drums which are arranged so as to face each other and which drive a load by means of a cable which is wound on the drums with a predetermined number of windings and each of the drums (2, 3) comprises a peripheral wall (22, 32) and is provided with a predetermined number of peripheral rings (40-45, 50-55), characterised in that, all the rings being of resilient material and independent of each other and wound around the peripheral wall (22, 32), the peripheral rings (40-45, 50-55) are each provided with a peripheral groove (440, 450) which is intended to receive the cable (C) and in that the resilient material which constitutes the peripheral rings (40-45, 50-55) is provided with physiochemical characteristics such that it allows, at the same time, driving of the cable (C) and relative sliding between a lower wall (441, 451) of the peripheral rings (40-45, 50-55) in contact with the peripheral wall (22, 32) of the drums (2, 3) and this wall (441, 451), the relative sliding being of an amplitude substantially equal to longitudinal deformations to which the cable (C) is subjected, when it is subjected to tensions of variable amplitudes.
  2. Winch according to claim 1, characterised in that each of the drums (2, 3) is provided with a pair of lateral rings (21a-21b, 31a-31b), in that at least one of the lateral rings (21a-21b, 31a-31b) of each pair is removable, so as to allow the positioning of the peripheral rings (40-45, 50-55) around the peripheral wall (22, 32) of the drums (2, 3), or the removal thereof.
  3. Winch according to either claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the peripheral rings (40-45, 50-55) are produced from a synthetic material.
  4. Winch according to any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that the peripheral walls (22, 32) of the drums (2, 3) are produced from stainless steel or from steel which is covered with ceramic material.
  5. Winch according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the distance (p) between the grooves (440, 450) of two adjacent rings (44, 45) of the same drum (2, 3) defines a pitch having the value p, in that each of the drums (2, 3) rotates about a rotation axis (Δ1, Δ2) and in that the drums (2, 3) are axially offset relative to each other by a fraction (p/2) of the pitch (d).
  6. Winch according to claim 5, characterised in that the fraction is equal to a half-pitch (p/2).
  7. Winch according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that each of the drums (2, 3) rotates about a rotation axis (Δ'1, Δ'2) and in that the rotation axes Δ'1, Δ'2) together form an angle (α) which is not equal to zero.
  8. Winch according to claim 7, characterised in that the angle (α) is between 0.5° and 3°.
  9. Use of a winch (C) according to any one of the preceding claims for petroleum prospecting in deep waters.
