Abstract
A towing winch, especially for use on board vessels to pull a wire up from the ocean and onto a storage drum. The pull winch comprises two drums (7, 8) arranged side by side with cuffs (3, 4) with grooves for a wire, the pulleys being pivotally attached to a foundation (6). In order to prevent the wire from coming out of the groove on one drum (7; 8) at an angle to the groove on which it enters on the other drum (8; 7), the rotational axes of the drum (7, 8) are twisted in proportion to one another at an angle 'adapted to the pitch of the grooves in the cuffs (3, 4) of the drums (7, 8). With this angle of rotation “twisting of the wire is avoided, which is not desirable as this will over time destroy the wire. By twisting the drums relative to each other, they can be placed closer together than the drums of the prior art so that the winch is smaller and lighter. Each drum (7, 8) is driven directly by a motor (1,2) so that the drums (7, 8) can be operated independently with different power from each motor.
