Claims (8)

  1. Device (10) for applying a longitudinal strap around a package (13), in particular such as a bundle of newspapers, magazines or the like, by means in particular of a strip-shaped strapping means (14), having a conveyor device for conveying the package (13) with its axis oriented in alignment with the direction of the conveyor to a strapping station, arranged in which are a guide channel (16) for the strapping means as a closed loop configured in the form of a frame for strapping the package (13) in a direction parallel to the direction of the conveyor and a clamping and closing head (15), and having a feeding device for feeding the strapping means (14) to the guide channel (16) for the strapping means, the guide channel (16) for the strapping means being arranged displaced laterally in relation to direction of the conveyor and being curved and twisted in such a way that a clearance is presented for the package (13), so that this can be transported without obstruction into the strapping station (10) and from it, there being assigned to the guide channel (16) for the strapping means a guiding device (17), which centres the strapping means (14) as it emerges from the guide channel (16) for the strapping means in the strapping station (10) on the package (13), characterized in that the guide channel (16) for the strapping means is assembled from corner deflection elements (30) and additional channel sections for conveying the strapping means and supporting it only on its outward-facing side in each case, and from segments (23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29) for imparting a twist to the strapping means introduced between the corner deflection elements (30) and the channel sections for imparting a twist to the strapping means (14) about its longitudinal axis.
  2. Device according to Claim 1, characterized in that the segments (23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29) for imparting a twist to the strapping means cause the strapping means (14) to twist about its longitudinal axis through around 40-60° in each case.
  3. Device according to Claim 2, characterized in that the segments (23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29) for imparting a twist to the strapping means cause the strapping means (14) to twist about its longitudinal axis through around 45° in each case.
  4. Device according to one of the foregoing Claims, characterized in that the segments (23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29) for imparting a twist to the strapping means are short in relation to the corner deflection elements (30) and the additional channel sections.
  5. Device according to one of the Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the segments (23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29) for imparting a twist to the strapping means in each case constitute a slot channel (31) that is open unilaterally towards the package (13) in the longitudinal sense having an inlet slot (32) for the strapping means and, rotated through around 45° in relation thereto, an outlet slot (33) for the strapping means, between which a sliding path for the twist in the strapping means is constituted by mutually opposing guide surfaces (34, 35) for the strapping means.
  6. Device according to Claim 1, characterized in that the corner deflection elements (30) in each case constitute a 90° deflection for the strapping means (14).
  7. Device according to Claim 6, characterized in that the corner deflection elements (30) in each case constitute a channel open unilaterally towards the package (13) in the longitudinal sense, from which channel the strapping means (14) can be withdrawn under return tension in order to tighten it around the package (13).
  8. Device according to Claim 6 or 7, characterized in that all the corner deflection elements (30) in the strapping means guide channel (16) are of mutually identical configuration.
