Abstract

The packaging machine for food in trays comprises mobile upper (5) and lower (6) sections which enclose a chamber (8) in which the tray is placed. Rollers feed film (13) into the chamber and it is then lifted away from the food and sealed to the tray at its edges. An Independent claim is included for a method for packing food in trays.

Description

The invention relates to a method for packaging a product located in a tray and a packaging machine for carrying out such a method.

Many items and products are packaged in pre-fabricated shawls during marketing and sealed with a so-called stretch film. In this case, a stretchable, usually transparent film is wrapped around the shell to fix the contents and protect against external influences. Since no hermetic closure of the contents takes place, the atmospheric oxygen can adversely affect perishable products. But the packages are visually very attractive, especially when food such as meat products tower over the edge of the bowl and look very plastic with the transparent cover.

In vacuum or so-called Atmos packs by hermetic closure to the action of atmospheric oxygen prevents perishable food. For this purpose, an impermeable film is sealed as a cover on the shell, from the previously sucked the air by evacuation and possibly replaced by inert gas.

If conventional tray sealing machines are used, the contents of the tray must not project beyond the edge of the tray when using a flat covering foil, since otherwise the covering foil can form wrinkles and leaks in the sealed seam during sealing.

From US 6,408,598 a method for producing such a package is known. It is proposed to deform a cover sheet that has been heated in a heated trough over the product. There is a risk that arise in the edge region wrinkles that cause leaks in the sealing zone. Another disadvantage is the heating of the cover before or during deformation, since shrinkable films lose their shrinkage property at higher temperatures.

From EP-A-1 038 773 a packaging machine with a schematically indicated closing station and a device for feeding trays to be closed by a top film into or out of the closing station is known. In particular, such Verschließstationen are formed in the known packaging machines as evacuating and sealing station.

In this case, an upper film, which serves for the closure, is clamped and heated between an upper part and a lower part of a tool. Subsequently, the container containing the product is moved in the direction of the upper film, so that the product is pressed against the softened upper film and deforms it. Simultaneously with the deformation of the top film, a welding head for welding the top film to the container is actuated.

The object of the invention is to avoid the disadvantages described above in a method for packaging or a packaging machine and to provide a method and a device, with the manufacture of a package with a shell and one on the edge of the shell after above projecting product is reliably possible. The product packages created in this way should be both dense and allow a favorable presentation on the outside.

This object is achieved by the method described in claim 1 and the packaging machine described in claim 4.

Further developments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims.

Fig. 3 shows a sectional view of an evacuating and sealing device 4 from an upper tool 5 and a lower tool 6. In the embodiment, the upper tool 5 is fixedly mounted on a frame. The lower tool 6 can be moved up and down via a knee lever device or a pneumatic device in the direction of the arrow 7 into the lowered position shown in FIG. 3 or into the closed position shown in FIG. 4. The upper tool 5 comprises an open towards the lower tool interior 8, in which a lower tool towards a concave opening having molding device 9 is firmly mounted. This quasi-comprehensive, a conventional sealing tool 10 is provided, which is movable via a pneumatic drive from the retracted position shown in Fig. 3 in the seal position shown in Fig. 8. Finally, a cutting device 11 is provided, which has an externally extending around the sealing device around cutting blade, which is also pneumatically movable between the retracted in Fig. 3 position and the cutting position shown in Fig. 9.

The lower tool has an inner space 12 facing the upper tool. In the plane formed by the lower edge of the upper tool 5, an upper film 13 is guided.

Furthermore, a device referred to below as a tray support 14 for receiving a filled with the product 3 shell 1 is provided, which is initially outside the evacuation and sealing device 4. By means of a transport device described, for example, in the cited EP-A 1 038 773, the tray carrier can be introduced into the position shown in FIG. 3 between the upper die 5 and lower die part 6 of the evacuating and sealing device.

The shell carrier 14 has a frame 15 which is arranged substantially at a height corresponding to the lower edge of the upper tool 5, ie the upper level of the frame 15 is located directly below the plane of the upper film 13. On its underside, the frame 15 has two arranged at a distance from each other bolts 16, which serve to guide the actual support member 17 of the switch carrier 14. The support member 17 has on the two outer sides of the bolt 16 running plain bearings 19. Further, on the support member 17 is provided by a shape and size of the edge 2 of the male shell 1 certain edge, which receives on its the sealing tool 10 facing the upper edge of the shell 1 with its edge. Shape and size of the facing edge 20 of the sealing tool corresponds to the shape and size of the edge of the support member 17th

The upper part has on the outside at its edge facing the lower tool a circumferential sealing ring 21, and the lower tool 6 on its side facing the upper tool a sealing ring 22.

As best seen in Fig. 5 it can be seen, the interior 8 of the upper tool is connected via a bore 23 with a evacuation device 24 shown schematically. The mold 9 has on its side facing away from the bottom tool round running holes 25 for connecting the lower tool side facing the interior 8, so that when connecting vacuum through the bore 23 and a suction on the lower tool side facing the bore 25 is applied ,

Furthermore, pneumatic actuators 26 are provided for moving the sealing tool up and down and pneumatic drive 27 for moving the cutting tool up and down.

The interior 12 of the lower tool 6 has initially on its bottom an abutment 28 for supporting the support member 17. The interior 12 is connected via a bore 29 with an evacuation and gassing device indicated schematically in FIG. 7A.

As best seen in a comparison of FIGS. 3 and 4, the frame 15 is fixed in the height shown in FIG. 3 relative to the height of the upper tool 5, but yielding to the extent that it encounters a corresponding pressure on the lower tool 6 is pressed by the lower tool against the upper tool so that the interior of the evacuating and sealing device is hermetically sealed to the outside.

In operation, the evacuating and sealing device 4 is opened in the position shown in FIG. In this position, the loaded with the product 3 shell 1 carrying tray support 14 is moved in the direction of arrow 31 in the centered position shown between the tool parts. In the next step, the schematically indicated in Fig. 4 drive 33 of the lower tool 6 is operated so that the lower tool in the Fig. 4 shown closed position is moved, in such a way that the upper film 13 and the frame 15 between the upper tool 5 and lower tool 6 are trapped. Thus, the flat, flat top film 13 is clamped around wrinkle-free. In the next step shown in FIG. 5, an evacuation takes place via the evacuating device 24 above the upper film, with the consequence that it is sucked onto the inner wall of the forming device 9 and thus stretched.

In the step shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, the shell 1 is held so deep by the retracted position of the support member 17 that the product 3 still has a distance from the plane of the top film 13. After the upper film has been sucked into the inner surface of the former 9 in the step shown in FIG. 5, in the step shown in FIG. 6 a schematically indicated drive 33 is produced the support member 17 moves relative to the frame 15 as far as the upper tool 5 out that its upper edge is in the original plane of the top film or in a plane with the surface of the frame 15 executed to the upper tool. In this step, the Evakuiereinrichtung 24 remains turned on.

In the step shown in Fig. 7A, the evacuation and gassing device 30 is additionally turned on. As a result, an evacuation first takes place via a channel 34 extending around the supporting part 17 between the supporting part 17 and the frame 15. This channel opens at a point which is separated by the upper film 13 against the interior, so that the space 35 between product 3 and stretched top film 13 is evacuated. In the event that it is desired, by means of appropriate switching of the evacuation and gassing device 30, a supply of an inert gas into the space 35 is subsequently carried out.

In the next step shown in FIG. 8, by switching on the pneumatic drive 26 of the sealing tool 10, it moves into the sealing position, whereby the edge 2 of the shell 1 is sealed hermetically and wrinkle-free with the upper foil. Subsequently, the pneumatic drive 27 for the cutting device 11 is turned on so that the cutting device is moved to the separating position shown in Fig. 9, whereby the finished package is separated from the upper film web.

In the subsequent step shown in Fig. 10 takes place by switching the pneumatic drives 26 and 27, a retraction of cutting device 11 and sealing tool 10 and venting through the Evakuiereinrichtungen 24 and 30. By venting through the Evakuiereinrichtung 24 is the top film 13 is released from the hollow surface of the mold 9 and lies down on the most protruding part of the product 3. Thus, the package is completely produced. The lower tool 6 is moved by its drive in the retracted lower position, and then the tray support 14 is moved in the direction of arrow 36 from the evacuating and sealing device, so that the finished package is removed from the shell carrier.

In the embodiment described above, in each case only one shell is introduced into the sealing station. According to a modified embodiment, the tray carrier is adapted to receive a plurality of trays and insert them into the sealing station for simultaneous sealing.
