Definitions
- the invention relates to a folder according to the preamble of claims 1, 2, 3 or 17.
- Such a folder is known from WO 97/24284 A2. Such a folder is such.
- B arranged at the output of a rotary printing press to cut a printed, possibly longitudinally folded material web, which can consist of one or more layers, into sections referred to as signatures and to fold these signatures one or more times.
- the folding process in particular when a signature is transferred from the folding knife cylinder to the folding jaw cylinder, requires movements of the signature transversely to its surface which are impeded by the flow resistance of the air. For this reason, in a continuous production process, where the freshly printed web of material is fed directly to a folder, the maximum operating speed of the folder is the factor that limits the processing speed of the entire production process. Another speed-limiting factor stems from the fact that the cylinders of the folding device with their folding knives and flaps have a large number of elements that have to be accelerated and braked abruptly during operation and are therefore subject to wear that increases disproportionately with increasing processing speed.
- DE 195 25 169 A1, DE 195 09 947 A1 and DE 36 26 287 A1 each describe a folder to which an additional module can be coupled laterally.
- This additional module has a conveyor line with a paddle wheel and a belt storage device for transporting non-cross-folded signatures.
- the invention has for its object to provide a folder.
- a further speed-limiting influence can result from a limited processing speed of a paddle wheel of a connected delivery device. If a finished product is thrown into the compartments of such a paddle wheel at too high a speed and is thereby braked violently, damage can result. However, braking the products before throwing them into the impeller is not possible, or is possible only to a limited extent, if the products are fed to the impeller in a practically continuous flow or with only a small distance from one another.
- This problem can be overcome by providing a signature switch in the conveyor line for selectively feeding the signatures to at least two delivery devices. If each of these delivery devices is only supplied with every second signature produced by the signature switch, each individual delivery device can work at a speed which corresponds to half the production rate of the signatures. Splitting the signature stream over more than two delivery devices allows an increase in the processing speed in each case proportional to the number of delivery devices.
- a delay device arranged between the signature switch and each delivery device can reduce the speed of the signatures by up to half compared to the web speed at the input of the folder.
- the delivery device / the delivery devices of the conveying section are each equipped with belt conveying devices conveying parallel to the axis of rotation of the paddle wheel.
- This construction causes a change in the direction of movement of the signatures by 90 ° on delivery to the belt conveyor, so that the signatures can be trimmed on all sides without the need for expensive corner stations which limit the processing speed.
- the folder has two entrances for the individual or simultaneous feeding of partial material webs and means for bringing these partial material webs together to form the material web to be processed in the folder.
- a material web fed via the first input alone, a material web fed via the second input alone, or a material web composed of partial webs fed via both inputs can be processed in the folder.
- Each of the entrances is preferably equipped with a folding former in order to produce a longitudinal fold on the partial material web fed over this entrance can.
- a further increase in flexibility is achieved by means of re-guiding the two partial material webs, which make it possible to feed a first partial material web to the conveyor line and the second partial material web to the folding device. In this way, both processing units of the folder, the conveyor line and the folder, can be fully used at the same time.
- the conveyor line and the folding device of the folder defined above can each be used to manufacture the same products, i. H.
- the conveyor line and folding device can be operated simultaneously, thus increasing the processing speed.
- the folder is advantageously preceded by a longitudinal cutting device for cutting a material web into the first and the second partial material web, the first partial material web having twice the width of the second and being fed to the folder in a longitudinally folded manner.
- a particularly compact, low design can be realized in that the two delivery devices have vane wheels rotating in opposite directions, which design on opposite belt conveyor devices. These belt conveyors can be led out on different sides of the apparatus, but at the same height. Furthermore, for a compact design, it is advantageous if the assembly comprising the conveyor section and the delivery devices assigned to it has an input and a first output for the first delivery device in a first end area and an output for the second delivery device in an opposite second end area , wherein the paddle wheel of the first delivery device in is arranged substantially centrally in the assembly. Such an arrangement allows the assembly to be arranged essentially congruently above or below a folding device, so that the space requirement is not increased compared to a conventional folder.
- Figure 1 is a schematic cross section through a folder.
- FIG. 2 shows an enlarged detail from FIG. 1;
- Fig. 3 is a schematic cross section through a folder according to a second embodiment.
- the folding apparatus shown in Fig. 1 essentially comprises three functional groups, a cutting device 01 for cutting a possibly longitudinally folded material web 04 inserted into the apparatus into individual signatures, a folding device 02 for folding the cut signatures and a conveyor line 03 on the signatures bypassing them the folding device 02 directly delivery devices 06; 07 are supplied.
- the cutting device 01 comprises a rotating knife 08 for the longitudinal edging of the material web 04, a pulling roller 09 for maintaining a predetermined tension of the material web 04 and then knife and utility cylinders 11 and 12 which cut off a signature from the incoming material web 04 with each revolution ,
- the diameter of the knife cylinder 11 and utility cylinder 12 can be adjusted to allow the cutting device 01 to process signatures of different lengths adapt.
- the cut-off signatures are brought by a first belt conveyor device 13 to a folding knife cylinder 14, the speed of the belt conveyor device 13 being adapted to the relative phase position of knife cylinder 11 and utility cylinder 12 or folding knife cylinder 14 such that a leading end of each signature on a gripper 16 of the Folding knife cylinder 14 hits and is clamped by this.
- the signature is conveyed to a gap between the folding knife cylinder 14 and a folding jaw cylinder 18.
- Folding knives 17 of the folding knife cylinder 14 are folded out in this gap in order to press the signature into a folding jaw 19 of the folding jaw cylinder 18.
- the signature is transferred to the jaw cylinder 18 by being clamped in the jaw 19. From there it is forwarded to a second belt conveyor device 21, which distributes the stream of signatures via a signature switch 22 to two delivery devices 23.
- the cutting device 01 z. B. inactivable by moving the knife cylinder 11 or useful cylinder 12 from the material web 04.
- the construction of this cutting device 26 is analogous to that of the cutting device 01 and is therefore not described again.
- the conveyor line 03 connects to the cutting device 26.
- the latter receives signatures cut by the cutting device 26 and first feeds them to a signature switch 27.
- the signature switch 27 comprises two opposing rollers 28, each of which is wrapped by belts 29 of the belt conveyor 03, and which carry cams 31 projecting up to half their circumference, which can be seen more clearly in the enlarged illustration in FIG. 2.
- the conveying speed of the conveyor line 03 in the region of the rollers 28 or the path speed of the belts 29 is selected such that the distance between the leading edges 32 of the cams 31 is in each case the distance between the leading edges 32 of on the conveyor line 03 in the region of the belts 29 funded signatures.
- the cams 31 control a reciprocating movement of a wedge 33 arranged in the exit gusset of the gap between the two rollers 28 between two positions in which it directs the signatures passing through the gap into one of two conveying channels 34, 36 in each case.
- the delivery channels 34; 36 are defined in a first section by belts 29 which are wrapped around the rollers 28 and whose web speed consequently corresponds to the peripheral speed of the rollers 28.
- a delay device 35 is formed in each case in a second section of the conveying channels 34 and 36 by belts 37 which move at a lower speed and which slow down the signatures.
- the delay devices 35 can also have a plurality of sections formed by belts 37 with a successively decreasing speed for gradually slowing down the signatures.
- the delivery channels 34; 36 each lead to a paddle wheel 38 or 39, in the blades of which the conveyed signatures fall.
- the left paddle wheel 38 assigned to the conveying channel 34 rotates clockwise and extends onto a conveyor belt 41 running to the left; the right paddle wheel 39 rotates counterclockwise and lays out on a conveyor belt 42 running to the right.
- the speeds of the paddle wheel 38 and 39 and conveyor belt 41 and 42 are each matched to one another such that the peripheral speed of the paddle wheel 38; 39 in the area where the inserted signatures touch the conveyor belt 41 or 42 corresponds essentially to the transport speed of the conveyor belt.
- the display of the signatures on the conveyor belt 41; 42 therefore does not come from a pulling action of the conveyor belt 41; 42 on the signatures but only through the thrust of a cantilever arm, each of which is stationary on the paddle wheels 38; 39 is arranged and in one Gap of the blades engages so that when the blades rotate past the cantilever arm it pushes the signatures out of the blades.
- the bucket wheels 38; 39 achieved an absolutely reliable and even scaled display of the signatures.
- the conveyor line 03 and the cutting device 26 assigned to it form a modular assembly which can be built under a conventional folder with slight adjustments to the latter, such as the subsequent attachment of the branch 24, without additional space being required for this.
- the signatures run through a conventional folder in one direction, from left to right in relation to FIG. 1.
- the modular assembly adapts to this by arranging the input 43 for the material to be processed, here the input of the second cutting device 26, in a first end region of the assembly (the left end region in FIG. 1), and that both paddle wheels 38; 39 are offset relative to this input 43 in the direction of the other end region (to the right in FIG. 1).
- the folder no space is required to the left of input 43.
- the conveyor line 03 is preceded by its own cutting device 26 in order to allow existing folding apparatuses to be easily retrofitted by the conveyor line 03 and the two delivery devices 06; 07 to to reach.
- the folding device 02 can be switched off completely. On the one hand, this leads to a reduced power consumption of the folder, on the other hand, this reduces wear on the sensitive parts of the folder, and moreover the folder can be run at a higher speed than would be possible when the folder 02 was in operation.
- FIG. 3 shows in a cross section analogous to Fig. 1 a folder according to a second embodiment of the invention. Elements which already correspond in terms of structure and function with reference to elements described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 have the same reference symbols.
- This folder has two entrances in the form of two formers 51; 52.
- the material web 04 to be processed is optionally via one of these two formers 51; 52 can be fed, but it can also only arise within the folding apparatus by using the two former formers 51; 52 simultaneously fed partial material webs are deflected by means of rollers 53 and placed one above the other to form the material web 04.
- the material web 04 then passes through a pull roller 09 and a knife 08 for longitudinal edging.
- Transverse and longitudinal perforation units 54; 56 for the transverse and longitudinal perforation of the material web 04 are arranged in front of a second pull roller 09 following the knife 08. Following the second pull roller 09, there are two ways in which the material web 04 can be conveyed further, to the folding device 02 or to the conveying line 03.
- both partial webs can either be fed either to the folding device 02 or the conveyor line 03, or the material web 04 can be broken down again into the partial webs, and the partial web fed via the former 51 is conveyed to the conveyor line 03, which via however, the former 52 fed to the folding device 02.
- the entrance of the folding device 02 here forms a gap between a knife cylinder 57 and the folding knife cylinder 14.
- the conveyor section 03 has, at its entrance 43, as already described with reference to FIG. 1, a second cutting device 26 for separating the supplied material web into signatures.
- the length of these signatures is not necessarily the same as that cut by the knife cylinder 57, in particular they can be half as long or smaller than the latter.
- the structure of the conveyor line adjoining the cutting device 26 largely corresponds to that described with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2.
- a first difference is, however, that in the embodiment of FIG. 3, the paddle wheels 38; 39 rotate in the same direction.
- a second, important difference is that the conveyor belts 41; 42 on which the paddle wheels 38; 39 lay out in a to the axis of rotation of the paddle wheels 38; 39 are oriented in the parallel direction, d. H. they convey in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the drawing in FIG. 3.
- the conveying direction is for both conveyor belts 41; 42 is the same, and is selected such that the signatures generated, provided that they have a longitudinal fold produced in the folding cylinder 51 or 52, are conveyed out with the longitudinal fold ahead.
- the folder from FIG. 3 also allows the processing of a supplied material web into a large number of different product formats.
- a special feature of this folder is, however, the possibility of producing identical products by simultaneously operating the folding device 02 and conveyor section 03 via different intermediate stages in each case and thus achieving a very high processing speed for these products.
- a material web such as a printed paper web
- Two partial webs are fed one above the other to the folder via the former 51 to form a longitudinal fold; the other part web is fed via the former 52 without a longitudinal fold.
- the two partial webs are separated again, the wider one without a longitudinal fold is fed to the folding device 02, cut there into signatures of a given length, and the signatures are folded once across and in the third break lengthwise to produce a product with the to get half the length of the signatures.
- the two partial webs lying one above the other, on the other hand, are fed to the conveyor section 03, at the entrance of which they are cut directly into signatures with the said half length.
- the signatures thus obtained are placed on the two conveyor belts 41; 42 distributed.
- the folder thus generates three signatures in each working cycle of the folder 02.
- the folder has at least two longitudinal hoppers 51; 52 upstream.
- a first web path to the folding device 02 is provided from the one longitudinal folding former 52 and a second web path to the conveyor line from the other longitudinal folding former 51.
- the second train path runs independently of the first train path.
