The conveyor system (1) for the processing of printed products (2) has a guiding system (3) along which conveyor elements (4) are moved. The guiding system is three dimensionally curved, and the conveyor system has holding devices which serve for the temporary fixing of the printed products in such a way that they are conveyed at least in sections against gravity force. The guiding system has one section (6) designed in helical form. The feeders (16) are located next to one another in the region of the helical line form section. An independent claim is included for a procedure for the processing of printed products using the aforesaid conveying system.

Description

The invention relates to a method for producing multipart printed products and an apparatus for carrying out this method according to the preambles of claims 1 and 8.

Out EP 0 354 343 a method and an apparatus for producing multipart printed products is known in which an outer part is placed astride a variable inner part at the end of a non-exclusive collection process with the open side edge ("flower"). The device disclosed therein has receiving parts with a bottom and lateral Abstützorgane that project slightly beyond the side edge of the inner parts, and supply points for outer and one or more inner parts, wherein the feed point for the outer part is formed so that the outer part astride the Flower is laid ahead over the inner part. These receiving parts have pocket-shaped compartments with separating partitions in a drum-shaped embodiment. Each receiving part has a transport member, which acts in the longitudinal direction of the receiving parts and further promotes by temporarily holding the inner parts and / or the outer part to the respective next feed or removal point.

From the prior art, for example CH 584 153 , drum-shaped collecting devices are known. In these, a printed product is fed in each case in the axial direction of the drum staggered feed. During one revolution of the drum, the printed product is conveyed forward to the subsequent feed location, where another printed product is inserted into a preceding one or placed astride it. At a subsequent sampling point, the printed products are finally removed from the drum and optionally fed to further processing steps.

It is a pertinent knowledge that brochures can be formed in a variety of ways, namely by collating, inserting or collecting ("inserting from inside to outside"). In many cases, these types of formation of printed products are collectively referred to as "gathering" or "completing". This, in contrast to the aforementioned gathering in the narrower sense in which signatures are superimposed, i. first the innermost fold sheet and then the outside, this typically being done on a platen on which fold sheets are stacked astride one after the other. As far as subsequently referred to as "collecting", this refers, subject to a special notice, to a collecting in a broader sense, i. to the word meaning as an umbrella term of the possible printed product formation.

Although the solution according to EP 0 354 343 allows to collect a variety of types of multi-part printed products, there are various limitations on the resulting printed products and the scope of the final product remains limited. The device requires a not inconsiderable adjustment effort, especially for variable print product formats. The local solution is based on the principle that the sheets are applied to a lateral support member which forms part of a carriage or a channel, and which protrudes slightly beyond the open side edge of the respective inner parts, resulting in a restriction of the accessibility and the conveying and loading possibilities leads.

Similar to the EP 0354343 also reveals the US 4,981,291 a drum-shaped device having a plurality of pocket-shaped compartments which are arranged at the periphery and transversely to the circumferential direction. The compartments have clamping means for holding the printed products at the bottom of the receiving parts at least when passing through a portion of the processing path in which the openings of the receiving parts are directed towards the bottom. From the EP 0354343 It is also apparent that with the device disclosed therein both printed products can be placed astride a saddle-shaped support assigned to each compartment, and can also be inserted into the pocket-shaped compartments formed between two adjacent saddle-shaped supports.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a method and a device which allows a flexible collection (in the broad sense) or completion of printed sheets and partial products, with a high degree of flexibility for the collection process and in terms of format size is achieved and the Effort for setting or device of the device is low.

This object is achieved by the invention defined in the characteristics of the independent claims.

The idea of the invention is based on largely solving the dependence of the collection process on the format size of the printed sheets. At the same time should be obtained by optionally individual promotion of the individual sheet or printed product additionally constructive, machining-oriented and conveyor-related degrees of freedom. All to be collected sheets are normalized with respect to a single reference position, this applies to both (unfolded) sheet and folded sheet (this should be understood as other side dishes or sub-products), this regardless of whether the sheet or the insert inserted, collected or should be collected astride. For this purpose, separate conveying elements are provided, which move along a conveying path and detect the sheets at the loading point on their one side, according to the invention on the side directed towards the bottom, and keep them fixed during a conveying path. Depending on the design of the conveying elements, the sheets can be fixed at one or more points, so-called fixing points (n), which can also be located away from the position edge. The inventive concept is not abandoned if, for certain adjustment, positioning or machining operations, the fixing of the sheets within the conveying elements is canceled or if the fixing points are defined by dynamic or movable elements, e.g. Rolls or belts to be defined. Of course, the term "point" is not to be construed in a narrow sense, i. Fixing points are to be understood in the sense of areas of variable size, which in the case of particular embodiments are readily spread across a large area, e.g. can be strip-shaped.

A further advantage of the invention is that the conveying elements can be designed such that they can be transferred from a conveying path of a first device to the conveying path of a second device and, moreover, need not necessarily be linearly conveyed. The restriction of conventional drivers or circumferential saddle bars, which must necessarily circulate within a device, is thus canceled. Also do not need, as in EP 0 354 343 , uniform transport organs per receiving part promote a group of printed products, so that troubleshooting or - eliminating measures are possible in case of malfunctions. In particular embodiments, it is now also possible to design and control the conveying elements in such a way that during the collecting process, not only components of motion in one direction (axial direction in a drum) are possible, but partially oppositely directed motion components occur and can be used to promote the sheet or products.

It is thus possible to connect a device according to the invention with a device of the same or analogous design in a line, or to transfer conveying elements together with the sheets or printed products to other processing devices, to process them there and then, for example. to another collecting process. Likewise, there is the freedom, depending on the design, of carrying out nonlinear, spatially complex conveying paths or even a return stroke of the printed sheets and, for example, introducing an intermediate processing step, so that the printed sheets are "fed back" by a part or even an entire stroke distance between two feed positions.

The invention provides that a conveying element detects and conveys the side parts of a single printed product, or preferably serves for detecting and conveying two adjacent printed products or sheets. According to the invention detecting and conveying the sheet is, unlike in the prior art, the saddle (pads) for collecting (in the strict sense) requires sheet, no edition constant height, which protrudes over the printed products or sheets, but instead the printed sheets can be conveyed so that also collected (parts of) printed products are at least partially accessible on both sides of their outer sides. Since the printed sheets are no longer applied to friction surfaces over a large area, known interference and quality problems can be avoided.

In particular embodiments, the device according to the invention can have movable supports which, during certain processing operations, support folded-sheet folded sheets in such a way that they assume a defined position or that their fold, for example for a stapling operation, is held firm.

Fig. 10). In FIG. 1 schematically an area of a possible conveying path for the printed products is shown. The conveying path here consists of a component of movement in the direction of the arrow F and may additionally contain a component of movement vertical to the plane of the drawing or transversely or obliquely to the arrow F. There are three conveying elements 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3 recognizable, which interact by means of rollers (or other sliding, rolling or guide bodies) 6 along the desired conveying path with a counter body 7 of the device. The conveying elements 5.1 to 5.3 each fix two adjacent folding sheets 3.1 to 3.4 by means of clamping elements 11.1 to 11.3, which are schematically formed here as two opposing clamping jaws. The respective fixing points are denoted by 8.1 to 8.3. In the intermediate region between the conveying elements 5.1 to 5.3 here separating elements 9.1 to 9.3 are arranged, which are connected to the counter body 7. It is essential that these separating elements only a small Have height h, which is less than the minimum size to be processed format size of the sheet or printed products. These separating elements 9.1 to 9.3 are auxiliary elements that perform various functions. In particular, these serve the actual separation of the arches and regional supports (cf. Fig. 10 ). In particular, in the loading area (here) the folded sheets abut the separating elements, so that further printed sheets can be fed so that they rest against one side of the folding sheet and indirectly on one side of a corresponding separating element, for example, for collation operations.

The counter-body 7 may be formed by a rail having a substantially straight portion along which the Zuförderstellen are arranged, and deflection regions, where the conveying elements are deflected to be transferred to a return path or the straight portion. This rail can also be helical and the return area have a different geometry. Alternatively, e.g. the counter-body have a double helix-like structure, with both helical curves of the forward promotion serve, or even the one way and the other the way back. The provision of a special return path can be avoided by moving the conveying elements along their path in a stroke-like manner. exercise a forward and then backward movement for a certain period of time. Even in this case, a double helical track can offer advantages, e.g. a compact design is achievable.

Of course, the invention allows the spatial trajectory of the printed sheets or products to be achieved by superposition of movement components. For example, similar to the prior art mentioned above, a helical movement of the printing sheets can be achieved by superimposing the rotational movement of the drum and the reciprocating motion of linearly moving conveying elements, the latter conveying the printed sheets only during a movement path or section. Depending on the specific construction or movement path of the conveying elements 5.1 to 5.3, the in FIG. 1 shown separating elements 9.1 to 9.3 arranged to be movable or connected to the conveying elements 5.

Fig. 1) vorgesehen sein. FIG. 2 shows an embodiment without separating elements in the dynamic process flow. Again, three conveyor elements 5.1 to 5.3 can be seen with corresponding clamping elements. Due to the dynamic movement and flexibility of the signatures 3.1 to 3.4, between each of which a further signatures 3.5 to 3.7, results, in particular for the only fixed by a conveyor element 5.1 to 5.3 folded sheets 3.5 to 3.7 a kind of folding the signature, ie this is first with one side to a first adjacent folded sheet (eg at 3.1 / 3.5) and after a certain path of movement with its other side of its second adjacent folded sheet (eg at 3.4 / 3.7). The position of the respective folding sheet 3.5 to 3.7 during the movement path shown depends on the speed of movement of the conveying elements, paper properties and angular position of the sheet. Of course, their position can also be influenced by active means (controls, grippers) or passive means (baffle, stationary baffles, etc.), so that the respective folded sheet at a desired location from one to the other side. This process can now be used selectively to be able to process both sides of the relevant folded sheet that is being folded. For example, an insert can be glued in on both sides or another printed sheet can be inserted on the respective desired side. Also in this embodiment, in some areas, for example at the feed points, separating elements (see. Fig. 1 ) be provided.

In FIG. 3 the extraction process according to the invention is shown schematically. Preferably, the printed products are deflected around a drum or a deflecting wheel so that the conveying elements 5.1 to 5.3 hold the printed products with their free side down, so that gravitational and centrifugal force interact. In this position, removal clips 13.1 and 13.2 can be guided along the arrow (arrow G) around the free sides of the printed products 3.1, 3.2. By opening the respective clamping elements 11.1 to 11.3 of the conveying elements, any internal parts 4.1 to 4.4 of the printed products, which have a smaller format, can be moved against the fold of the outermost folding sheet so that the removal clamps 13.1, 13.2 grasp the entire printed product with all internal parts.

FIG. 4 shows printed sheets of various formats that can be collected by the device according to the invention. The reference numeral 3.1 is a printed sheet bspw. The Formats A3 shown. About this are straddled a folded sheet 3.2 with A4 format and another folded sheet 3.3 with A5 format. At a lower, defined by the (not shown here) conveyor elements reference edge 10 are sheet 3.4 (A4 size), 3.5 (A5 format), 3.6 (A6 format) and another sheet 3.7 with A3 format recognizable. These sheets, which are not necessarily folding sheets, are not placed astride the aforementioned sheet, but are collected or plugged. With several points 12, the clamping points provided in this embodiment are indicated. As based on FIG. 4 is clearly visible, the clamping points 12 are preferably distributed so that all sheets of various formats are fixed by the (not shown here) clamping means, regardless of whether the reference edge 10 are present or are placed one above the other astride.

FIG. 5 now shows a device with which the terminal point arrangement according to FIG. 4 is effected. At each conveyor element 5.1 to 5.4 clamping elements 11.1 to 11.4 are arranged. By means of these clamping elements 11.1 to 11.4 are to be conveyed sheet, here held folded sheets 3.1 to 3.3, fixed Furthermore, dividing elements 9.1 to 9.4 are provided, which are indicated here only schematically. In the open position, the clamping elements are 11.1 to 11.4 the dividing elements 9.1 to 9.3 largely, so that together form pocket-like shots that allow sheets or products can be recorded so that they do not unintentionally pending or even between terminal and separating element come to rest. These dividing elements 9.1 to 9.3 are designed to be movable, so that they only reach their radially outward position indicated by a circle k in the region illustrated here. In this position, the dividers may serve as a support for a step-by-step load. In a further (not shown here) angular position de drum according to the present embodiment, the separating elements 9.1 to 9.3 are moved radially inward, so that the sheets 3.1 to 3.3 these no longer rest and are free on its radially outer side. This is provided according to the invention in order to enable the detection of two adjacent printed sheets with simultaneous transverse conveying (cf. FIGS. 8 to 8b ) and also to avoid friction surfaces when conveying the printed sheets.

Based on FIGS. 6a to 6f the charging process of the inventive method and the device will be explained in more detail. In each of the FIGS. 6a to 6f in each case only one conveying element 5 is shown. It is easy to see that especially in the FIGS. 6d to 6f Further conveying elements are required to keep the affected folded sheets open on both legs. The feeding of the conveying elements 5 with a printing or folding sheet is carried out in each case with a directed against the conveying element 5 movement component, which only in FIG. 6a with an arrow K is indicated. It should already be noted here that the feed does not necessarily have to be directed vertically downwards, but the feed of the conveying elements can be at various suitable locations along the conveying path (see. Fig. 1 ) take place, for example obliquely from the side and also take a greater amount of time by the feed takes place smoothly during a movement path. In this case, the printed sheets and / or partial products are preferably supplied in such a way that, in this feed region, they have substantially exclusively a movement component in the direction of the reference edge 10 or the counter-body 7.

Fig. 1) oder stationär im Bearbeitungs- bzw. Beschickungsbereich anzubringen. In FIG. 6a is a mere compilation showing multiple bows. In the conveying element 5, two folded sheets 3.1, 3.2 of different format are already accommodated. Another sheet 3.3 is introduced next to the fold sheet 3.2 (gathering). The in the FIGS. 6a to 6f not shown clamping elements (see, eg Fig. 1 ) are inactive during the loading process, ie the sheets can be introduced substantially without hindrance up to the reference edge 10 of the conveyor element 5 and are brought into the desired reference position accordingly. It is of course possible to provide auxiliary elements during the loading process, such as jumpers (baffles in the lead-in area), holding spirals and similar means which temporarily support or hold the printed sheets in the desired position. As such auxiliary elements may serve, inter alia, nozzles, suction pads, guide fingers or rollers. It is possible, these auxiliary elements on the conveyor elements 5, on the counter-body (see. Fig. 1 ) or stationary in the processing or loading area.

In FIG. 6b a folded sheet 3.4 is introduced in addition to other sheets in the sense of gathering. These sheets 3 were previously collected and collected in the narrower sense (see fold sheet 3.1). It can be clearly seen that all printed sheets 3, 3.1 and 3.4 in FIG. 6b , same as at FIG. 6a , abut the reference edge 10, ie with respect to their in FIG. 6b are aligned against the bottom edge.

In FIG. 6c In contrast, a folded sheet 3.2 smaller format is placed astride a folded sheet 3.1 (collecting in the strict sense). The person skilled in the art recognizes that this folding sheet 3.2 will be aligned with respect to its fold at the fold of the folding sheet 3.1. In this example, therefore, the printing sheets 3.1, 3.3 and 3.4 are aligned with respect to their underlying side at the reference edge 10, the last-supplied folded sheet 3.2 is after the feed, however, at the fold of the sheet 3.1 at. In the context of the present invention, in this example, the clamping points as in FIG. 4 provided so that the (not shown here) clamping elements also detect the signatures 3.2 after loading and fix during delivery.

FIG. 6d now shows an example in which a sheet 3.4 fold is introduced in advance between other sheets 3.1 to 3.3. The desired, defined position of this folded sheet between the sheet 3.1 and 3.2 is according to the basis of FIG. 2 described process determinable. It is further apparent that the two folded sheets 3.1 and 3.3 are detected only on one side of the sheet through the illustrated conveying element 5 and the respective other sheet side by the adjacent (not shown here) conveying elements. FIG. 6e shows a subsequent insertion of a folded sheet 3.4 in a spread between two held folded sheets 3.1, 3.3 lying folded sheet 3.2. In order to be able to insert the folded sheet 3.4 at the desired location an opening of the folding sheet 3.2 is effected here at the loading point by this is opened in a known manner by means of a prefolding gripper to its prefold.

FIG. 6f finally shows a folded sheet 3.4, which is placed astride two folding sheets 3.2 and 3.3 (collecting in the strict sense). In this example, in turn, the two folded sheets are 3.1 and 3.3 by two associated with them conveying elements 5, of which only one is shown, supported and detected after loading and a folded sheet is defined with both legs by Namely conveying element 5 supported. The folded sheet shown here 3.4 will be aligned at its fold due to its smaller compared to the folding sheet 3.3 format. It would of course be possible to feed a folded sheet 3.4 larger format, which would then be supported with its two legs on the conveyor element 5 and the additional, adjacent conveyor element.

FIG. 7 schematically shows an arrangement in which the orientation of the respective lower leg 15.1, 15.2 of the two sheets 3.1 and 3.2 are not formed by a reference edge of the conveyor element 5 itself, but by a pivotable about an axis 21 stop 20. Since the conveying element 5, not during loading, but in a possible transverse conveying (explained below) to be moved perpendicular to the plane, this stop 20 is controlled so that it occupies a defined position in the loading area and thus forms the reference edge for the sheet, and is pivoted at a later time so that the conveying element 5 on the stop 20 is moved past. This control is preferably carried out by an electronic control or by a static control link, as these are known to the skilled person in various embodiments. The clamping elements 11 are in FIG. 7 shown immediately after the loading in the closed position in which they already fix the two sheets 3.1, 3.2.

Already referred to a possible cross-promotion. The conveying elements 5 allow different possibilities of a conveying path, such as is in FIG. 1 indicated by an arrow F. The conveying means 5 can circulate around a closed trajectory, typically transversely to the edge or folding orientation of the printing or folding sheets to be conveyed, whereby this trajectory can consist, for example, circularly or else of any trajectory having linear and curved sections. In addition to embodiments in which the conveying elements basically represent each independently moving conveyor, preferably, for example, rolling body according to the EP 387,318 , to which reference is made here as an integral part of this description, the conveying means can also be fixed or snap-in or releasably connected to a circulating conveying means, for example a chain drive. Alternatively, however, the conveyors are driven to convey the sheets along a helical path. This helix can be a constant or preferably have non-linear slope, so that the conveyor region by area describe a circular path (slope of the helix equal to zero) and then during a so-called. Cross conveyor travel (pitch of the helix not equal to zero) are moved forward in the direction of the helical axis. This funding principle of the so-called. Cross promotion is by, for example, by the publications EP 341423 or EP 341424 The same applicant previously known, which show collecting or insertion drums. However, the person skilled in the art recognizes that the present application differs from these prior publications in particular in that the printed sheets are defined on one side by the conveying means.

Fig. 8) förderbar sind. In FIG. 8 is an embodiment of the invention with drum arrangement shown in more detail. The conveying elements 5, of which only one is provided with a reference numeral, are here in rails, which form the counter body 7, stored and run along these in the direction of arrow P linear. These rails are arranged parallel to each other at the periphery of a rotating drum 28. The feed of the conveying elements 5 is effected in a conventional manner, for example by means of a cam belt which circulates in the rails. ln FIG. 8 are three feeders 26.1 to 26.3 recognizable, of which the drum 28 and the rotating conveyor elements 5 are fed with their clamping means 11. An additional work station 27, such as a conventional stationary or rotary stapler, is provided in the rear portion of this drum 28. In the area of the feeders 26 and, if desired, the workstation, movable supports 23 are guided in a guide 24. In the area of the loading and the workstation, these supports 23 are in the raised position and, in this way, if desired, can support the folded sheet (not shown here for the sake of clarity) from the inside. This process is in FIG. 8a showing a side view of the described drum, clearly visible. The lifting of the supports 23 takes place in a region B of the periphery. During the conveyance of the printed sheets, the supports 23 are in the retracted state, so that the printed sheets without hindrance in the direction of the arrow P (see. Fig. 8 ) are eligible. In FIG. 8 Furthermore, it is readily apparent that the conveying elements 5 are moving along a helical path 29 which has a pitch of zero in the area of the feed conveyors 26.1 to 26.3 or of the workstation 27. In contrast to conventional solutions, not only the printed sheets, but the conveying elements themselves move along a spiral and become here back at the end in the drum interior. FIG. 8b schematically shows a folded sheet 3 is conveyed over a support 23. The support 23 is in the lowered state (see arrow a), ie the fold 31 of the signature 3 is no longer supported and thus free. The two legs 15.1 and 15.2 of the printing sheet 3 are detected by two conveying means 5.1 to 5.4 or their clamping means 11.1 to 11.4. Due to the different in the direction of the arrow P position of the funding (due to helical pitch) of the two sheet bow legs twisted or warped the sheet 3 in the position shown. However, each time at the next feed or workstation and preferably the removal of the sheet is again in the directed position (spiral pitch equal to zero). In this situation, various processing are possible and in particular, the fold can be supported by the support 23, which is then raised against the arrow a. It is readily apparent that in individual embodiments the individual supports 23 can also be connected to one another or (in particular in the case of embodiments with non-rotating counter-bodies) can be arranged only in the region of the feeders or workstations.

FIG. 9 shows an embodiment in which the counter body 7 for the conveying elements 5 (see. FIG. 5 ) is formed by a spatially, nonlinear slope having helix. The folded sheets 3, of which only one has been provided with a reference numeral, are here held by a plurality of conveying elements 5 so that their narrow sides extend substantially parallel to the helical path. If necessary, it is also possible to align the printed sheets each so that their fold lines are directed parallel to the spiral axis. This is preferably achieved in that the clamping elements are rotatably or pivotally connected to the conveying elements. The counter-body can here be fixed to a stationary drum body. Feeds and processing steps can be analogous to those in FIGS. 8 to 8b shown example. In particular, stabilizing separating elements can also be provided here, which can be suspended separately or connected to the conveying elements.

Druckbogen 3 in Position a2. Based on FIG. 10 Now, the principle of adjustment of the separating element 9 is explained in more detail during the transverse conveying movement. Due to the foregoing description will It can be seen that the invention fundamentally avoids the supports or saddles generally used in the prior art in connection with collection in the narrower sense. As far as in the feeding or processing area a support open supplied sheet should be made, the separating elements can be constructed so that they allow a temporary support astride supplied sheet. For this purpose, a saddle-shaped support 23 is held in a guide 24 so adjustable that it allows a dynamic height adjustment a in the direction of the here only schematically shown counter body 7. When loading an open sheet, the support 23 is in position a 1 , during the promotion of the (not shown here) conveying elements 5 or sheet 3 in position a second The guide 24 can be connected directly to the counter body or, as shown here, also in an adjustable holder 25. This holder 25 makes it possible, if necessary, to adapt the support 23 or its area of height adjustment a to the printed sheet formats. According to the invention it can be provided that the reference edges of the conveyor elements 5 are adjustable by the conveyor element are designed to be adjustable as a whole or its reference edge.

The clamping elements 11.1 to 11.3 may readily be designed differently, for example. As rollers, clamping rails, pressing elements or the like. In particular embodiments, it is also possible to form the (optionally adjustable) reference edge 10 with separate structural parts, e.g. a stop in the loading and other processing areas, so that the conveying elements only take over the clamping function, but not necessarily have to define the reference edge even when taking over printed sheets.
