Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a method and a device for masking a part of a motor vehicle, in order to protect this part of soiling that may result from the painting of another part of this vehicle.
  • the technical field of the invention is that of automotive body repair.
  • Glass part means essentially the unpainted parts of the vehicle, in particular the windscreen, the rear window, the left and right side windows, the headlight and taillight optics, the exterior rear-view mirrors and other parts such as wheels, hubcaps or bumpers.
  • masking usually used paper packaged in a roll; for each organ to be protected, the operator manually cuts and / or tears a sheet of paper; the width of this sheet is that of the chosen paper roll, and the length of the sheet is approximately determined by the operator according to the dimensions of the organ to be protected; this sheet thus has two first parallel straight edges, and two second edges whose shape and orientation result from the cutting technique used; in no case does the shape of the leaf thus formed correspond to that of the organ to be protected; the operator can then tear and / or crease the sheet so as to roughly adapt its contour to that of the organ to be protected; these operations are long and delicate, and never results in a form sheet perfectly adapted to that of the part to be protected.
  • US-A-4,420,520 discloses a protective mask of a glazed or convex portion of a vehicle, which is made of a sheet material, its contour being partly curvilinear.
  • US Pat. No. 2,371,859 discloses a flexible masking device which consists of a rubber band and a flexible fabric cover which is spread over the body part to be protected, being fixed and suspended to the rubber band; this band is flexible enough to be applied to surfaces with irregular corners and contours; it comprises a series of cavities forming suction cups for securing the band to the body by suction, so that no adhesive is necessary.
  • this device has advantages, it is not adapted to allow cheaply, to quickly and accurately hide a glazed portion of a motor vehicle.
  • EP 334 360 discloses laminating structures for masking a portion of the underside of a vehicle comprising a layer of plastic foam, an adhesive layer coating one side of the foam layer, and a sheet of peel-off protection covering the adhesive layer; discontinuous cutting lines formed by grooves or perforations are provided to allow to manually cut a portion of this structure to form a mask consisting of one or more elementary mask (s) delimited (s) by these lines.
  • such a system makes it possible to obtain a mask having a shape that is very much adapted to the shape of a part of the vehicle to be protected; such a structure does in fact fit perfectly to a vehicle part whose shape matches that of an elementary mask or several juxtaposed elementary masks; such a structure does not allow to marry precisely the outline of a glazed portion of a vehicle.
  • the invention aims to provide masking masks, their manufacturing process and their use, which are improved and which remedy, at least in part, the disadvantages of the known methods and devices of marouflage.
  • the present invention aims to provide masks for protecting glazed parts of motor vehicles, in particular vehicles for transport, road, overhead or rail that are suitable for the protection, unit and demand, of any glazed part of any vehicle.
  • the invention defined by the features of claim 1 is to provide a protective mask of a glazed portion and / or a convex portion of a vehicle, which is made of a sheet material, and whose contour is curvilinear, at least in part and generally entirely, in particular in the form of a curvilinear polygon, so that the contour of the mask may correspond precisely, after deformation of the mask by pressing against said vehicle part, to the contour of this part.
  • said sheet material constituting the mask is thin and light; the thickness (reference 119 figure 14) of this material is less than 200 microns, in particular in a range of 20 to 80 microns; the weight per unit area of this material is less than 200 g / m 2 , in particular ranging from 20 to 80 g / m 2 , more preferably from 30 to 60 g / m 2 , in particular around 40 to 45 g / m 2 , g / m 2 .
  • said material is monolayer and devoid of adhesive.
  • a material having on both sides a high resistance to penetration of these substances for this purpose, according to a preferred embodiment, one chooses a paper imitation greaseproof (greaseproof) on both sides, or a kraft paper coated on both sides polyethylene.
  • the mask may be made of a plastics material resistant to solvents used for painting the vehicle, for example by thermoforming.
  • the mask is extended (bordered) along one of its curvilinear sides. , by a strip (or selvedge) of said sheet material whose contour preferably has a straight portion.
  • This band makes it possible to manipulate the mask of which it is integral, without contact with the mask and thus without risk of deteriorating it.
  • such a band facilitates the mutual joining of several masks, by joining the strips respectively associated with each of the masks; for this purpose, one can stack several masks - and their associated strips - so that the bands overlap in all or part, then secure the strips together, by stapling or gluing; in addition or alternatively, the strips can be pierced with one or more orifices separated by a predetermined distance, and whose diameter allows the passage of a rod forming part of a mask holder; a plurality of masks can thus be stored suspended from such a support via their respective band.
  • the masks can be stored flat in a cabinet having a plurality of compartments that are superimposed on each other.
  • the rectilinear portion of the contour of the strip promotes a compact and orderly storage of several stacked masks, this portion serving as a stop when the masks are introduced into a compartment of the piece of furniture; in the same way, this rectilinear portion makes it easy to produce an orderly and harmonious stack of several masks of different shapes; this facilitates the packaging in a flexible bag (plastic for example) of several masks.
  • the curved line separating a mask from its associated band is weakened by the presence of perforations or cuts so that the separation of a mask with respect to the band extending it is facilitated.
  • a mask In order to avoid damaging a mask during its transport, storage or handling, it can be folded in half along a substantially median fold line, or it can be folded into an accordion according to several parallel fold lines between them. and substantially orthogonal to the larger dimension of a mask; this also facilitates the packaging and storage of masks of large dimensions, such as in particular the protective masks of a windshield or a rear window of a vehicle.
  • the invention notably results in a package comprising a plurality of single-use masks, which are preferably each extended by at least one extension portion - such as a strip - of the sheet material constituting the mask, and comprising means for meeting to gather together said masks, said plurality of masks for concealing a plurality of separate glazed portions of a vehicle or a plurality of identical vehicles.
  • Said meeting means may comprise staples or glue solidarisant said masks by their said extension portions, and / or a flexible bag enveloping said masks and their associated extension portions; alternatively, the masks may be joined by their associated extension portions (or bands) to form a continuous band having a plurality of masks, which band is rolled to form a roll or zig-zag folded to form a stack.
  • the invention has the particular advantage of allowing, in a body repair shop, to have with a small footprint, a large amount of masks of different shapes to hide quickly and accurately, one or more curved glass parts d any model of vehicle, individually and on demand.
  • the present invention provides, in another aspect, a paper web, which is preferably wound on a tubular mandrel to form a roll, in which a plurality of identically shaped masks adapted to the a glass part of a determined vehicle, and which comprises a plurality of weakened weakening first connection portions extending between (and / or separating) two adjacent masks of said strip, making it easier to separate the masks and to avoid untimely rips in the tape.
  • the paper strip can be folded into a zig-zag in the manner of a "listing" paper.
  • paper designates, in addition to paper, non-metallic sheet materials, in particular plastics and laminated materials.
  • it may comprise at least one detachable lateral edge which extends continuously along one of its edges, and which is separated from said masks by a second weakened portion (of least resistance) so as to facilitate its separation of said masks.
  • the paper web has two continuous detachable lateral edges which extend respectively along each of its longitudinal edges.
  • one or the other or both detachable lateral edges are discontinuous; in this case, the contour of each of the masks comprises a portion flush along at least one edge of the paper web, ie extends tangentially thereto, which contributes to reducing the falls unnecessary paper.
  • said first weakened connection portions between two masks have a very small width compared to the mask dimensions: the ratio of this width to the average dimension of a mask is preferably less than or equal to 10 - 1 ; this ratio can be up to 10 -2 , 10 -3 or 10 -4 , and can even in some applications be zero, when the contours of two adjacent masks are arranged tangentially to one another.
  • said masks can be arranged head to tail in pairs.
  • the paper web has a single plurality of identical masks; according to a preferred variant, the band may comprise at least two pluralities of masks: a first plurality of identical first masks (for example of a shape adapted to that of a front side window of a given vehicle), and a second plurality of second identical masks (for example of a shape adapted to that of a rear side window of said vehicle), which are of a shape different from that of said first masks.
  • a first plurality of identical first masks for example of a shape adapted to that of a front side window of a given vehicle
  • second plurality of second identical masks for example of a shape adapted to that of a rear side window of said vehicle
  • said first masks are alternately arranged with said second masks, along the paper web.
  • the weakening of the connecting portions and / or selvedges can be achieved by perforation or discontinuous cutting of the paper web, along a weakening line which can extend along at least a portion contour of the masks, and which may be rectilinear or curvilinear, transverse, longitudinal, or oblique. ,
  • masks of different shapes can be embedded on a strip of paper 2, 3, 4 (or more).
  • a mask of small dimensions such as headlight masks
  • a large mask such as the mask of the windshield (of the same vehicle).
  • the two masks can then be separated along a weakened zone extending along the contour of the small mask; after separation of these two masks, the recess created inside the large mask can be used to secure the mask to the glass part with an adhesive tape extending partially into the recess; this recess can (as needed) be easily concealed by another sheet of roughly cut paper.
  • a paper whose grammage is less than or equal to 200 g / m 2 , in particular less than or equal to 100 g / m 2 , for example of the order of 20 to 60 g / m 2 .
  • the invention consists in proposing a device for storing and dispensing pre-cut masks for the shapes of glazed parts of several motor vehicles;
  • the device comprises a plurality of parallel bars which are (each) adapted to receive one, or preferably several, paper (s); each roll has at least a plurality of pre-cut masks forming a band; the strip may be unwound of the length necessary to extract a mask, by rotation of the roller and / or the bar supporting the roller; this rotation may result from a manual pulling force exerted on the free end of the paper web.
