Claims (14)

  1. Flat-bed knitting machine comprising mutually opposed needle beds (1, 2) with longitudinally displaceable needles (4), between which are arranged sinkers (10) that can be adjusted by means of lock members of a slide, characterised in that the lock members form four control cam profiles (31, 33, 35, 37) for impinging on control faces (21) which are provided on the sinkers (10) and each produce an optimum position for the sinker (10) with respect to the movement of the associated needle (4), wherein additional control cam profiles can be formed for sinker opening movements which are not required on account of needle movements.
  2. Flat-bed knitting machine according to claim 1, characterised in that the lock members for each of the possible needle movements for forming stitches or tuck loops, for passing over stitches, for taking over stitches and for simultaneously passing over and taking over stitches form a separate control cam (31, 33, 35, 37) for optimum positioning of the associated sinker (10).
  3. Flat-bed knitting machine according to either claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the lock members form one or more additional control cam profiles (40) for sinker opening movements which are required not on account of needle movements, but on account of other elements such as yarn guides or insertion elements.
  4. Flat-bed knitting machine according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that it comprises selection elements (20) for the selective activation of only those sinkers (10) which are required.
  5. Flat-bed knitting machine according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the sinkers (10) are arranged pivotally.
  6. Flat-bed knitting machine according to claim 5, characterised in that the sinkers (10) are capable of pivoting smoothly between a maximum open position and a maximum closed position.
  7. Flat-bed knitting machine according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the sinkers (10) are held in their maximum open position by springs (11) when their control faces (21, 22) are not impinged by the control cam profiles (31, 33, 35, 37).

  10. Flat-bed knitting machine according to any one of claims 1 to 9, characterised in that the sinkers (10) of the front and back needle bed (1, 2) close the comb gap between knock-over wires (5) on the needle beds (1, 2) at the top when they are both located in their maximum closed position.
  11. Flat-bed knitting machine according to any one of claims 1 to 10, characterised in that the sinkers (10) are adjustable in their closed position during the movement of the slide via the associated needle bed (1, 2).
