While the temperature T 1 is now kept constant, carburization takes place with a sequence of gassing cycles during which carbon donor gas, for example propane, is admitted into the treatment chamber 12. Each gassing cycle is preferably followed by a short diffusion time without gas supply, while the last gassing cycle is followed by a longer diffusion time without gas supply.
- the number of gassing cycles, the duration of the respective gas supply and the gas flow rate depend on the type of steel used and the desired carbon concentration, which is aimed for in the peripheral zone.

- the pressure rises over a period of 30 min to the pressure P 4 , which is just under 400 mbar in the example shown.
- an inert gas for example with N 2 , for example up to 500 mbar, and only then to let in NH 3 .
- the ammonia dissociates more quickly into N 2 and H 2 at a higher temperature, as a result of which the nitrogen cannot be incorporated into the austenite as quickly at the higher temperature, since the intermediate products NH 2 , NH, N and H convert more quickly to the end products H 2 and transform N 2 .
- the nitriding results at a lower temperature T 2 are better than at a higher temperature T 1 .
- bringing the gassing forward with NH 3 can shorten the total time required to reach the desired final nitrogen concentration.
- the nitrogen absorption capacity of the steel is influenced by the present carbon content.
- nitrogen nitriding on an Fe foil (0.01% C) at 930 ° C by gassing with NH 3 resulted in a nitrogen content of 0.78% for 10 minutes.
- an embroidery of an Fe film with 0.76% C only gave a nitrogen content of 0.31%.
- the nitrogen absorption capacity decreases further.
- embroidery is also carried out after the diffusion phase (or during the diffusion) with the edge carbon content already lowered, and not already during the carbonation cycles.
- a treatment chamber 12 with a volume of approximately 5.3 m 3 , approximately 50 rods with a diameter of 20 mm and a length of 500 mm of Ck15 (ballast) and 2 polished samples of Ck45 and two polished samples of 16MnCr5 were treated.
- the last gassing cycle was followed by a diffusion cycle at a temperature T 1 of 930 ° C of 65 min at a partial pressure of 0.8 mbar. This was followed by cooling to the temperature T 2 of 860 ° C., followed by a nitrogen phase at T 2 for 30 min, with 1 m 3 / h NH 3 gassing with the vacuum valve 16 closed.
- the carbon content and the nitrogen content in the peripheral zone was determined using GDOS analyzes. The result was a content of about 0.75% C and about 0.5% N, for steel 16MnCr5 to a depth of approx. 0.3 mm. At Ck 45 the carbon content was 0.77% C and a Nitrogen content of about 0.3% N determined in the peripheral zone, to a depth of approx. 0.4 mm. The result was 45 at Ck a surface hardness of around 600 HV.
- Usual marginal nitrogen contents of 0.25 to 0.4% can preferably be achieved by introducing gas with a simultaneous increase in pressure. Comparative experiments showed that an equilibrium concentration depending on the NH 3 throughput and temperature is established with gas flow, which is in some cases considerably lower than with gas inlet.
- samples of CK45 and 16MnCr5 were first heated to 930 ° C with extensive evacuation and then held at 930 ° C and at a partial pressure of 0.8 mbar for 70 minutes.
- a brief nitrogen nitriding pre-nitrogen nitriding was carried out during the holding phase at 930 ° C. even before the start of low-pressure carburization, by NH 3 gassing at 3 m 3 / h for 10 minutes. The process was then continued as described in exemplary embodiment 1.

The invention further relates to a device for treatment of steel parts with which such a process is carried out can be, with at least one treatment chamber that with a vacuum pump can be coupled and at least one inlet for has a carbon donor gas and for a nitrogen donor gas, with a heater for heating the minimum a treatment chamber, and with a controller for control the temperature and atmosphere within the at least one Treatment chamber.
Such a method and such an apparatus are known from DE 199 09 694 A1.
After that is a process for carbonitriding in vacuum processes known, after which a vacuum carburizing is carried out and then when using molecular Nitrogen as donor gas or ammonia at higher Pressure of up to a few bar an embroidery was carried out becomes. The known method therefore represents a combination a vacuum carburizing with a subsequent embroidery at overpressure.
However, how the procedure is to be carried out in detail remains completely in order to achieve favorable treatment results open.
Aside from the 'aforementioned publication, which the skilled person provides no indication of how such a carbonitriding process actually be carried out in practice , it has so far not been considered possible in the professional world, vacuum carbonitriding without plasma excitation to carry out, with sufficient nitrogen and carbon contents can be achieved in the edge zone of the treated parts. This is justified by the so-called Sievertsche law, that means that with decreasing nitrogen partial pressure the atmosphere reduces nitrogen solubility in the component and Nitrogen diffuses out of the component.
The solution known from DE 199 09 694 A1, the embroidery Carrying out in the overpressure range requires a complex one System technology of a heating chamber designed as a pressure vessel as well as a significant gas consumption, which is used to fill them is required.
The invention is therefore based on the object of a method and a device for the thermochemical treatment of steel parts to indicate, through which a carburization in case of negative pressure and an embroidery on the desired values in the border zone of the Parts can be achieved in the simplest and cheapest possible way are. Furthermore, during a subsequent hardening of the parts a sufficient case depth over a desired range be achievable.
This task is carried out in a method according to the above Kind solved in that at the end of the carburizing phase or after cooling to a temperature range of about 780 ° C to 950 ° C a nitrogen donor gas containing ammonia, starting from a negative pressure to a pressure of less than 1000 mbar, in the at least one treatment chamber is let in to embroider the parts.
The object of the invention is completely achieved in this way.
It has been shown that when a nitrogen donor gas is admitted, that contains at least ammonia or predominantly consists of ammonia, with negative pressure in the at least one treatment chamber and with subsequent pressure increase of the nitrogen donor gas to a partial pressure of less than 1000 mbar in a temperature range from about 780 ° C to about 950 ° C good treatment results can be achieved.
The carburizing takes place in an advantageous further development of the invention at about 850 ° C to about 1000 ° C, preferably at about 850 ° C to 950 ° C, preferably a pressure of less than 200 mbar, preferably less than 50 mbar, is observed.
The carburizing phase can in a preferred further development of the invention comprise a plurality of fumigation cycles while whose carbon donor gas into the at least one treatment chamber is admitted, and wherein a plurality of diffusion cycles is used, during which no carbon donor gas is fed.
Propane is preferably used as the carbon donor gas, Acetylene or ethylene is used.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the invention. Temperature before or during embroidery to about 780 ° C 900 ° C, preferably reduced to about 830 ° C to 870 ° C.
For the treatment of the steel Ck45 and the steel 16MnCr5 it has proved to be advantageous if the carburization in a temperature range of about 850 ° C to 950 ° C with a Multiple fumigation cycles with a partial pressure of less than 50 mbar and a total duration of about 10 to 90 min, with subsequent diffusion cycles carried out at partial pressure a longer one at the last gassing cycle Diffusion cycle of at least 5 min with a reduced Partial pressure of less than 10 mbar connects.
Such a procedure can be used for the two previously mentioned steels and for steels with similar properties ensure sufficient carburization of the peripheral zone.
The embroidery is preferably in a temperature range from about 820 ° C to 950 ° C. Depending on the type of used starting material, in particular its affinity for Nitrogen, which is influenced by the alloying elements, depending on the required case depth and the one used The duration of the temperature is adjusted accordingly. in this connection usually result in a treatment duration of around 15 up to 60 min good results.
In an advantageous development of the invention is already during the last diffusion cycle of the carburizing phase with a Inlet of nitrogen donor gas into the at least one Treatment chamber started before cooling down to the The temperature of the nitrogen phase is started.
In this way, a particularly time-saving and thus cost-saving Treatment of the parts can be achieved.
The nitrogen donor gas is preferably used during the nitrification phase starting from a partial pressure of at most 500 mbar, preferably of at most 50 mbar, until it is reached of the maximum pressure of less than 1000 mbar.
The nitrogen donor gas can flow over the entire duration the embroidery phase or the pressure after Reaching the maximum pressure can be kept constant.
It has been shown that especially when the pressure of the nitrogen donor gas during the entire duration of the nitrification phase through constant gas access with the otherwise closed Treatment chamber is constantly increasing, preferred Achieve nitrogen contents of approx. 0.2 - 0.4% by weight in the peripheral zones to let.
Nevertheless, sensible treatment is also possible if the pressure is less than 1000 mbar is kept constant. It is used as a nitrogen donor gas preferably used a gas that is predominantly ammonia contains. If necessary, it can be even more molecular Nitrogen with a low partial pressure may be included.
The embroidery can advantageously in the same treatment chamber how to carry out the carburizing.
However, in the case of larger systems, it is also possible to use various Treatment chambers for nitriding and carburizing use.
The parts are preferably made after finishing the embroidery quenched, which is preferred at high pressure by gas quenching he follows.
In addition, it is preferred if a separate quenching chamber is used. This makes it possible to go through a cold Quenching chamber to achieve very high quenching rates, what for low-alloy and unalloyed carbon steels is particularly cheap, which are preferred for carbon cutting processes.
In a preferred development of the method according to the invention becomes a partial embroidery before the carburization (Pre-nitrogen) with a nitrogen donor gas, that contains ammonia.
This can be carried out, for example, during the first holding phase in the temperature range from approximately 780 to 1050 ° C., preferably at a partial pressure of less than 1000 mbar, for example by starting from a low partial pressure such as approximately 50 mbar or below over a certain period of time (for example 10 minutes ) Nitrogen donor gas is supplied with, for example, 3 m 3 / h.
It has been shown that this pre-embroidery in short Time a significant nitrogen enrichment in the boundary layer occurs. This nitrogen diffuses during the subsequent one Carburization partly in the material, but effuses also partly due to the low process pressure (Partial pressure). The nitrogen concentration remaining in the material however, is sufficient to during the subsequent Carburizing to improve carbon uptake and diffusion rate to increase. Thus, in shorter times greater carburization depths can be achieved. In this way the process control can be further improved.
The carburization is preferably controlled so that in the layers near the surface have a carbon content of about 0.5 to 1.0% by weight, preferably from about 0.7 to 0.9% by weight.
In this way, the formation of residual austenite with nitrogen storage avoided.
With regard to the device, the object of the invention is solved a device according to the type mentioned above, that the controller is designed to start with Carburizing at a temperature of around 780 ° C to 1050 ° C Carbon donor gas up to a pressure of less than 500 mbar into the at least one treatment chamber and for subsequent embroidery at a temperature of 780 ° C to 950 ° C nitrogen donor gas containing ammonia, up to a partial pressure of less than 1000 mbar in the minimum to admit a treatment chamber.
This device also preferably has means for high-pressure gas quenching of the parts on.
Such a device is for performing the invention Process suitable, temperature and atmosphere program-controlled can be complied with fully automatically to ensure a high reproducibility of the treatment.
Further advantages result from the fact that ammonia-containing gas is only supplied up to a partial pressure below the Atmospheric pressure.
As a result, the security measures otherwise required Use of ammonia is significantly simplified, resulting in low cost Design of the device and an inexpensive Process management contributes. Also the consumption of Process gas reduced to approx. 5 - 30% of the previously required volumes. A complex design of the heating chamber as a pressure vessel is also avoided.
It is understood that the above and those below Features of the invention not yet to be explained in the specified combination, but also in others Combinations or alone can be used without the Leave the scope of the invention.

In the following, the course of treatment, which is typically for Low pressure carbonitriding and subsequent gas quench hardening can be carried out in more detail with reference to FIGS. 2a) and b) explained.
An jeden Begasungszyklus
After degreasing of the parts, which can be done by a washing process or only thermally, the parts are heated to a temperature T 1 at which carburization is carried out. The temperature for carburizing can generally be in a range from 780 ° C. to 1050 ° C., preferably in a range from approximately 900 ° C. to 1000 ° C., and a temperature of 930 ° C. has been selected in the case shown. Heating to temperature T 1 can take place, for example, within 30 minutes. At the same time, the pressure P is first reduced as much as possible from the atmospheric pressure in order to remove residual oxygen and then increased to a pressure P 1 which is below 50 mbar, preferably about 1 or 0.8 mbar. A holding stage is then inserted at constant pressure P 1 and constant temperature T 1 , which can last, for example, 1 to 2 h, for example 1.5 h. While the temperature T 1 is now kept constant, carburization takes place with a sequence of gassing cycles during which carbon donor gas, for example propane, is admitted into the
With the steel Ck45 or 16MnCr5, for example, 4 cycles of 3 min gas inlet with 600 l / h propane at 20 mbar can be carried out, each followed by a diffusion cycle of 1 min, which is followed, for example, by 6 cycles of 3 min gas inlet with 400 l / h h Connect propane at 20 mbar, which are each followed by a diffusion cycle of 1 min, with a longer diffusion cycle at the partial pressure P 3 , which may correspond approximately to the partial pressure P 1 , and which, for example, 0.5 to 2, follow the last gassing cycle h, for example 65 minutes, then connects.
At the end of this diffusion cycle, the temperature T 1 is reduced to a lower temperature T 2 , at which the nitriding is carried out. The nitriding can in principle take place in a temperature range from approximately 780 ° C. to 950 ° C. using a nitrogen donor gas which predominantly contains ammonia, a temperature range between approximately 800 ° C. and 900 ° C. preferably being selected, or from approximately 860 ° C. as in the case shown.
Stickstoffspendergas, also beispielsweise Ammoniak mit 1 m3/h,
400 mbar in dargestelltem Beispiel beträgt. When the temperature T 2 is reached, nitrogen dispensing gas, for example ammonia at 1 m 3 / h, is supplied with the
According to a process variant, it is possible to flood the treatment chamber first with an inert gas, for example with N 2 , for example up to 500 mbar, and only then to let in NH 3 .
This is preferably followed by high-pressure gas quenching
with nitrogen, for which the pressure is briefly on, for example
about 15 bar can be increased and then rapid cooling
with the support of the
It is understood that the temperature shown in Fig. 2a) and b) and pressure profiles are simplified to just the to explain ideal course while in reality by nature not always a heating or cooling with constant The rate of heating or cooling takes place and also the pressure changes usually not done in a straight line.
However, the principle based on FIGS. 2a) and b) is straightforward recognizable.
erzielt. The best embroidery results in the border zone were included
the steady supply of ammonia shown above with the
In the flow, ie with a constant supply of nitrogen donor gas with the
It is conceivable, as indicated by the dash-dotted line in Fig. 2b), to start the ammonia feed at temperature T 1 before the end of the last diffusion cycle, that is to say still during the carburizing phase, and to continue it continuously until after the end of the diffusion cycle Temperature is reduced from T 1 to T 2 to the holding temperature for the nitrogen phase.
As is known, the ammonia dissociates more quickly into N 2 and H 2 at a higher temperature, as a result of which the nitrogen cannot be incorporated into the austenite as quickly at the higher temperature, since the intermediate products NH 2 , NH, N and H convert more quickly to the end products H 2 and transform N 2 . In this respect, the nitriding results at a lower temperature T 2 are better than at a higher temperature T 1 . However, bringing the gassing forward with NH 3 can shorten the total time required to reach the desired final nitrogen concentration.
As a further possibility, the gas flow with the double-dash line is indicated in Fig. 2b), which leads to a lower, constant final pressure P 4 '' and which, however, does not lead overall to equally advantageous results for the constant pressure increase with constant gas supply with the
It has also been found that the nitrogen absorption capacity of the steel is influenced by the present carbon content. For example, nitrogen nitriding on an Fe foil (0.01% C) at 930 ° C by gassing with NH 3 resulted in a nitrogen content of 0.78% for 10 minutes. In contrast, under otherwise identical conditions, an embroidery of an Fe film with 0.76% C only gave a nitrogen content of 0.31%. With increasing carbon content up to saturation, the nitrogen absorption capacity decreases further. For this reason, according to the invention, embroidery is also carried out after the diffusion phase (or during the diffusion) with the edge carbon content already lowered, and not already during the carbonation cycles.
Another cheap way of litigation now consists in perform an embroidery at the beginning of the process (pre-embroidery), i.e. after reaching the treatment temperatures before Low-pressure carburization begins. This can be done in a short time from e.g. 10 minutes of significant nitrogen enrichment in the boundary layer occur. This nitrogen diffuses during of the subsequent coaling process partly in the Material, it also partially effuses due to the low Partial pressure. The nitrogen concentration remaining in the material is sufficient, however, to the carbon uptake as well Diffusion rate of carbon in the material too accelerate. This allows greater carburization depths in shorter times be achieved.
In a
Vakuumventil 16.This was initially carried out over a period of 30 minutes with a temperature T 1 of 930 ° C. with extensive evacuation, which was followed by a holding level at 930 ° C. and a partial pressure of 0.8 mbar over 70 minutes. This was followed by a carburizing phase for a total of 104 min, with 4 cycles of 3 min gas inlet (propane) at 600 l / h at 20 mbar, each followed by a diffusion cycle of one min. This was followed by 6 cycles of 3 min gas inlet with 400 l / h propane at 20 mbar, followed by a diffusion cycle of 1 min each. The last gassing cycle was followed by a diffusion cycle at a temperature T 1 of 930 ° C of 65 min at a partial pressure of 0.8 mbar. This was followed by cooling to the temperature T 2 of 860 ° C., followed by a nitrogen phase at T 2 for 30 min, with 1 m 3 / h NH 3 gassing with the
This was followed by gas quenching with 15 bar N 2 .
The carbon content and the nitrogen content in the peripheral zone was determined using GDOS analyzes.
The stronger incorporation of nitrogen at 16MnCr5 with about 0.5% N compared to about 0.3% N for Ck45 is on the higher one Affinity of the alloying elements to nitrogen and formation of finely divided Cr nitrides.
Usual marginal nitrogen contents of 0.25 to 0.4% can preferably be achieved by introducing gas with a simultaneous increase in pressure. Comparative experiments showed that an equilibrium concentration depending on the NH 3 throughput and temperature is established with gas flow, which is in some cases considerably lower than with gas inlet.
A diffusion of nitrogen from the zone near the edge was observed despite evacuation (and transport of the batch in the evacuated System according to Fig. 3) not found.
In contrast, nitrogen nitriding only with 1 bar N 2 did not lead to the desired nitrogen content in the material.
In Abweichung
With the same procedure as in
1 aufwiesen. The carbon content was again in the samples produced in this way
certainly. There were higher carbon levels
increased in the peripheral zone from about 0.77% C to 0.85% C and
a carburizing depth increased by approximately 0.1 mm compared to the
In this way, larger times can be achieved in shorter times Carburization depths or equal carburization depths for shorter ones Achieve treatment duration.
