Abstract

The invention concerns a rail vehicle in particular a railway car for transporting single-unit loads such as road vehicles, containers, mobile bodies or the like. The invention is characterised in that the base (4) of its platform (3) is lowered at the limit or off the standardised clearance up to a few centimetres above the ground and the width of said base (4) is not less than the widest authorised traffic lane for a vehicle. The invention is of particular interest for manufacturers and users of transport railway cars, in particular for transporting loads circulating or transported on roads.

Description

The present invention relates to a railway vehicle for the transport of unit loads including road such as road vehicles, containers or swap bodies whose main feature is its very low ground clearance over almost its entire width.

Such vehicles are known from GB-A-2 331 056, for example.

In order for railway rolling stock to run smoothly in tunnels or under bridges, railways establish a template or templates that delimit the outline or envelope within which the material is to be understood. The respect of this template provides the guarantee for rolling stock never to meet a fixed obstacle.

European networks have agreed on a common template called "UIC template" (International Union of Railways), which takes into account the constraints of the various national rail networks. Rolling stock that complies with this UIC template can run on almost any European network without risk.

The lower part of the various templates has little difference between them from one network to another, but in the upper part, some networks (Germany, Austria, ...) have a much larger size than the UIC template for historical reasons. On these networks, freight wagons, for example flat wagons, which comply with the UIC empty template, may be loaded with goods which exceed the UIC mask but respect the size of the network in question, if the journey is made only on this network.

As a result, a situation has emerged in which there is an international UIC template respected for the exchange of equipment between different countries, but there remain national templates whose upper part varies depending on the country, the template in the lower part remaining mostly identical to that of UIC.

With the development of combined transport and the arrival of large maritime containers, some networks, and in particular that of France, have enlarged the gauge in the upper part of some of their lines to allow the transport of these large containers and thus adapt to the larger size of the neighboring countries in which these lines extend.

For the transport on road of road vehicles with European dimensions (maximum of 4 meters of height in load) on flat wagons, the networks were brought to consider to enlarge the jig in the high part. This involves enlarging and enhancing the vaults of tunnels and bridges. These works are very expensive and very long because the work in the tunnels is complicated (difficult access, maintenance of train traffic on one of the two lanes, ...)

  • lorsque l'on dépasse le gabarit en partie haute avec la marchandise, le wagon à vide respecte toujours le gabarit UIC et donc peut aller partout ; alors qu'un wagon dont la structure dépasse du gabarit en partie basse serait "prisonnier" des lignes adaptées ce qui est une contrainte très pénalisante pour le trafic fret habituel ;
European railways have always studied and realized gauge enlargements at the top and never at the bottom for several reasons:
  • when you go beyond the template at the top with the merchandise, the vacuum car always respects the UIC template and can go anywhere; whereas a wagon whose structure exceeds the gauge in the lower part would be "prisoner" of the adapted lines which is a very penalizing constraint for the usual freight traffic;
  • current wagons must be able to pass through the sorting centers; however, the sorting of cars is done by gravity, by pushing the trains of uncoupled wagons on a "marshalling hump" from which they descend by gravity and are then switched to the destination lane. This hump has a very low radius of convexity which requires that the minimum height of the underside of the floor is not too low so that the middle part of the wagon does not rub on the curved rails by monitoring the hump. Moreover, in modern yards, there are "track brakes" which are stationary equipment on the ground braking wagons by means of movable jaws acting directly on the wheel blanks. These jaws in the raised position at their maximum height must not be struck by the underside of the wagons.
  • the most common obstacles found in the lower part are the docks. To get out of the template in the bottom part is important to rectify all the low platforms that can be encountered on a railway line and these can be very numerous where important work. And we always keep these wagons prisoners of these lines where the platforms are modified.

The template at the bottom is mainly two sides inclined at 45 °. In order to be able to load a European-size truck or a large container or two stacked containers on a railway vehicle, the area where the truck tires or the base of the container are to rest must be about 2.5 to 2, 6 m (at least approximately equal to the distance between the outer flanks of the tires). However, because of the presence of the 45 ° inclined sides, a surface of this width is at best only about 15 cm above the minimum permissible level for the underside of the railway vehicle, resulting in a loss of useful height making it impossible to transport a vehicle or container four meters high.

One of the objectives of the invention is to allow rail transport of all four-meter high vehicles not covered by exceptional transport.

Another objective is to lower as much as possible the point of contact of the load with the bottom of the wagon.

Another objective is to lower the ground clearance of the wagon.

Ces objectifs sont atteints au moyen des caractéristiques de la Revendication 1.These objectives are achieved by means of the features of Claim 1.

  • la figure 1 est une vue en coupe transversale du véhicule ferroviaire selon l'invention chargé d'un véhicule articulé formé d'un camion et d'une remorque sur laquelle le gabarit normalisé a été tracé en trait épais et la partie inférieure de ce gabarit en trait encore plus épais ;

Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear in the description which follows, given by way of non-limiting example with reference to the drawings in which:
  • Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of the rail vehicle according to the invention loaded with an articulated vehicle formed of a truck and a trailer on which the standard template has been drawn in thick line and the lower part of this template. in an even thicker line;
  • Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the detail circled in Figure 1;
  • Figure 3 is a diagram showing the general shape of the normalized template according to the reference contour;
  • Figure 4 is the enlarged trace of the lower part of the template shown in Figure 3;
  • Figure 5 is the plot in correspondence with that of Figure 4 of the template corresponding to the railway vehicle with very low ground clearance and maximum width of the carrier structure according to the invention.

The invention relates to a wagon 1 and more generally to a railway vehicle having a carrying structure 2, for example a chassis. The body of the support structure 2 delimits in the lower part a flat loading platform 3 4 for example flat and can be movable in pivoting and / or lowering the ground of one of its ends to perform self-loading and self-unloading wagon by wagon.

Of course, another way of loading and unloading the railway vehicle is also possible, the present invention not at all on a particular method of loading and unloading.

The lower limit of the platform 3 flat bottom 4 is in the lower part of the standard template.

According to an exemplary embodiment, the width of the bottom 4 of the platform 3 is equal to the width of the standardized template.

The railway vehicle 1 according to the invention is intended to transport a unitary road load, for example an articulated road vehicle formed of a tractor 5 and a trailer 6, but also a container or containers mobile (s) or other load (s) traveling on the roads or transported on them.

The standard railway gauge shows a general shape of reference contour as shown in FIG.

There is an upper portion 7 of generally rounded shape formed of a flat top 8 extended downwards on each side by a connecting portion 9 extending between the top and the lateral sides such as 10. Each connecting portion 9 is a broken line consisting of three line segments in series 11, 12 and 13 inclined downwardly to the junction with the corresponding lateral vertical side 10.

The distance between these two lateral sides determines the maximum width "d max" of the template.

The template continues downwards and on each side by a first recess 14 inwards intended to leave free a withdrawal or shoulder 15 for a platform of first height thus decreasing the maximum width by a distance corresponding to the first two recesses.

Each second recess 17 is connected to a bottom line 18 by an oblique line 19 to 45 ° of inward inclination angle delimiting a recess representing another recess or wedge shoulder for a bottom quay.

The lower limit represented by the bottom line 18 is located in this example at a distance E of 13 cm from the ground.

The entire template is of course symmetrical with respect to the axis of the tracks materialized by an axis of symmetry 21 perpendicular to the plane of the tracks and cutting in the middle.

One of the objectives of the present invention is to lower the contact surface of the load with the carrier structure as low as possible from the template, ie a few centimeters from the ground, for example at a distance "e" of about 8 to 10 cm from the ground. Because of the necessary width of the floor of about 2.5 to 2.6 m, the size of the railway vehicle leaves the template. But if we limit ourselves to not exceeding the upper point of the oblique side 19 inclined at 45 ° (at the dimension of 400 mm in height and 1250 mm half-width, of the reference contour of the UIC template), we do not come hitting the widespread docks of 385 mm height that just arrive in this corner. The 550 mm high platforms recommended in the new installations are placed further from the lane axis and do not interfere. Only platforms 300 mm high would prevent the passage of such railway vehicles. But these quays are very old and practically do not exist anymore on the main axes since during major renewals of tracks and ballasts, they are destroyed to allow the passage of mechanized road laying machines. These platforms are then rebuilt at the height of 385 or 550 mm. Other types of obstacles, which may be encountered in the area where the template is removed, would be electrical connection boxes in the pre-station areas where there are many lane devices. In this case, the work to be done will always be much less expensive than rectifications of tunnel vaults. For all sections of track in full line (outside major stations) there is no obstacle of this type.

For this purpose and to achieve one of the aims of the present invention, the platform 3 of the rail vehicle is shaped so that its flat bottom 4 is as low as possible, that is to say very close to the ground , at a distance "e" of a few centimeters, for example 8 to 10 cm from the ground, giving the railway vehicle a very low ground clearance.

More particularly, the contact surface of the load with the bottom (4) of the carrier structure of the railway vehicle, is at least at or below the bottom line 18 of the standard gauge.

Furthermore, the width of the template of this railway vehicle is greater than the largest existing lane for a road vehicle authorized for normal free road traffic, that is to say without accompaniment of the exceptional type of transport.

As regards the width of the platform 3 carrying the load, it has the maximum useful dimension "d lim", in any case at least equal to and at least slightly greater than the road of the larger road vehicle authorized on the road network, for example an articulated truck-trailer vehicle or a semi-trailer or others. Good understood, this width is less than the width of the gauge of the railway vehicle.

Border side structures 22 and 23 present on each side ensure the safe running and lateral protection of the unit road load of the railway vehicle.

These lateral structures of borders 22 and 23 are inclined rising outwards each defining with the bottom 4 of the platform 3 an obtuse open dihedron, one of the two planes is that of the platform 3 and the other that of the adjacent lateral structure 22 or 23.

In the upper part, these structures are inside the standardized rail gauge so that all the high platforms are compatible.

As shown in FIG. 1, the tires such as 24 of the tractor truck 5 come to rest on the platform 3 at the edge of the dihedral edge and the inclined lateral edge planes widen the width space upwards so to leave a free space for the rockers of the road vehicles transported.

Il est remplacé par un coin sortant 25 d'environ 20 mm.This connection with the vertical lateral sides 10 of the template make disappear the second shoulder 17 provided for the small platforms. The lower shoulder 20 in the corner of the lower part of the conventional template shown in strong lines in Figures 1 and 2 is not respected. It is replaced by an outgoing corner of about 20 mm.

On remarque sur les figures comparatives 4 et 5 les différences de forme entre les parties basses des deux gabarits respectivement entre le contour de référence du gabarit conventionnel (figure 4) et celui selon l'invention (figure 5).Comparative Figures 4 and 5 show the differences in shape between the lower parts of the two templates respectively between the reference contour of the conventional template (FIG. according to the invention (Figure 5).

Les côtés obliques 27 de jonction raccordent la ligne de fond 26 aux côtés latéraux verticaux 10.If the maximum width "d max" is maintained over the majority of the height, the aim will be to bring the bottom line 26 as close as possible to the ground and the width at this level increases significantly to a limit width "d lim" . The oblique connecting faces 27 connect the bottom line 26 to the vertical lateral sides 10.

The suppression of the second recesses 17 does not harm the railway vehicle according to the invention which is intended to circulate in shuttles only on specific lines of certain axes not having compatibility of platforms or others and this without going through the sorting centers traditional railways but along journeys between specialized loading and unloading terminals.

With these conditions, having only certain lines adapted to the template at the bottom does not constitute an operating obstacle. The transport of trucks, containers or swap bodies of large dimensions are particularly well suited for this type of operation in shuttles where flows are grouped on common trunks.

This type of operation is particularly suited to the current needs of unloading motorways and roads from heavy goods vehicles by loading road vehicles on railway vehicles of specific trains transporting them by rail over more or less great distances without any nuisance. the environment and to improve road safety.
