Machine-knife for trimming books or the like with a knife-carrier (1, 1', 1", 1'") made of metal which is connectable to a machine, and a blade (7, 10, 11, 12) made of cutting material for connection to the knife-carrier (1, 1', 1", 1'''), the blade (7, 10, 11, 12) being configured as an exchangeable part in relation to the knife-carrier (1, 1', 1", 1'") in such a way that it is permanently connected to a strip-form blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4'") as a single component and the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4'") is releasably attached to the knife-carrier (1, 1', 1", 1'"), characterized in that the knife-carrier (1, 1', 1", 1'") possesses a rebated recess (3) for flush seating of the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4'") and the bounding faces of the rebated recess (3) at the inner end and also the bounding faces of the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4'") cooperating therewith are in both cases set at an angle of < 90° to each other.

Machine-knife according to Claim 1, characterized in that the blade (7) is sunk in a rebate (8) at the free end of the blade-holder (4), the bounding faces at the inner end of the rebate (8) and also the bounding faces of the blade (7) cooperating therewith being in both cases set at an angle of < 90° to each other.
  3. Machine-knife according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterized in that the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4"') is made of metal.
  4. Machine-knife according to any one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that a plurality of releasable attachments between the knife-carrier (1, 1', 1", 1'") and the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4'") are provided, each such attachment comprising: a tapped hole (5) in the knife-carrier (1, 1', 1", 1'"); a through hole (6) in alignment therewith, and having an enlarged entrance, in the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4"'); and a screw which is sinkable flush with the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4"').
  5. Machine-knife according to any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the blade (10) is sunk in a groove (9) which is set at a slightly oblique angle to the surface of the blade-holder (4').
  6. Machine-knife according to any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that at the tip of the knife the blade-holder (4", 4'") is stepped back in relation to the knife-carrier (1", 1'") and is shaped in such a way that the blade (11, 12) covers the blade-holder (4", 4'") over its full height and forms a contact face (13) serving as support in relation to the recess (3).
  7. Machine-knife according to Claim 6, characterized in that the blade (12) has an extended portion (14) for firmer connection to the blade-holder (4'") on the one hand and for better support in relation to the recess (3) on the other hand.
  8. Machine-knife according to Claim 7, characterized in that the extended portion (14) is stepped with respect to the blade-holder (4'").
  9. Machine-knife according to any one of Claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the blade (7, 10, 11, 12) is made of a selected ceramic material.
  10. Machine-knife according to any one of Claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the blade (7, 10, 11, 12) has a coating of material harder than the cutting material of the blade (7, 10, 11, 12), in particular diamond.
  11. Machine-knife according to any one of Claims 1 to 10, characterized in that the blade (7, 10, 11, 12) is joined to the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4'") with the aid of a curable adhesive.
  12. Machine-knife according to any one of Claims 1 to 10, characterized in that the blade (7, 10, 11, 12) is joined to the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4'") with the aid of solder material.
  13. Machine-knife according to any one of Claims 1 to 10, characterized in that the blade (7, 10, 11, 12) is joined to the blade-holder (4, 4', 4", 4'") by welding, in particular ultrasonic welding.
