Abstract

The invention relates to a ventilation device with regulating valve, to be mounted on a glazing panel or a crossbeam, comprising a profile to form an external hood, characterised by the following structure: the regulating valve is part of, or is connected to the lower profile, or composite profile; the regulating valve is located at the extemal side of the glazing panel or crossbeam; the regulating valve may show dimensions such, that in the closed position, it comes into contact with the internal side of the external hood; the external hood extends arched over 90° or substantially 90° and is part of the upper profile or composite profile.

Description

  • The invention relates to a ventilation device with regulating valve, to be mounted on a glazing panel or crossbeam, comprising an upper profile, eventually an upper composite profile to form an external hood, and a lower profile, or composite profile for receiving a glazing panel or a crossbeam.
  • A typical example of such a device can be found in the European patent publication 0 327 186 B1.
  • It is the aim of the invention to prescribe a ventilation device that ensures an excellent regulation of the air intake in al weather conditions, an in particular makes any penetration of rainwater impossible.
  • In order to make this possible according to the invention, the device is characterised by the following structure:
  • a) the regulating valve is part of, or is connected to the lower profile, or composite profile;
  • b) the regulating valve is located at the external side of the glazing panel or crossbeam;
  • c) the regulating valve may show dimensions such, that in closed position, it comes into contact with the internal side of the external hood;
  • d) the external hood extends arched over 90° or substantially 90° and is part of the upper profile or composite profile, whereby the expressions "upper profile" and "lower profile" should always be understood in the position of use of the ventilation device on the glazing panel or crossbeam.
  • According to a possible embodiment of the invention, above said upper profile or composite profile is internally combined with a plastic profile, at least in the section of the upper profile the regulating valve in the closed position comes or may come into contact with.
  • Other details and advantages of the invention will show from the following description of a ventilation device according to the invention. This description is exclusively given by way of example and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the attached figures.
  • Figure 1 is a cross section of the ventilation device according to the invention.
  • Figure 2 is a perspective representation of the end hood belonging to the same device.
  • Figure 3 is also a perspective representation, as seen from a different angle, of an end hood without certain components which relate to the operation of the regulating valve.
  • Figure 4 is a perspective representation on a larger scale of a sliding component to be mounted in the end hood.
  • Figure 5 is a perspective representation on an enlarged scale of the handle from the ventilation device.
  • Figure 6 is a perspective representation of a fully finished end hood.
  • The ventilation device depicted in these figures consists of a series of profiles to form an external hood 1 which is created by the combination of a light metal profile 2 (e.g. aluminium) with a profile 3 of plastic. Both profiles 2 and 3 are bent downward over their biggest length over substantially 90°. The expression "downward" should be understood in the position of use of the external hood 1. The same goes for any further reference to the position of any profile or component thereof, which should be seen in the position of use of the ventilation device.
  • The profile 3 rests at the bottom on the profile 2 at the height of the notch 2'. At the top, the profile 3 and the profile 2 are interlinked. Thereto, both profiles show a wing 4 with a branching 5 and a wing 6 with a branching 7. The interlinking of both these profiles is done according to known techniques.
  • The regulating valve 8 is co-extruded, together with a component 9, and this from a synthetic material which can be considered as hard, whereas the connection 10 between the component 9 and the regulating valve 8, which can be considered as a "hinge", is obtained by co-extrusion of a softer synthetic material.
  • Thus, the regulating valve 8 can be adjusted in several intermediate positions between the fully open and fully closed positions.
  • A good contact between the regulating valve 8 and the plastic profile 3 is ensured by the curvature of this profile at the height of the edge 3' of the profile 3.
  • The actual lower glazing profile, in the embodiment according to figure 1, consists of a light metal profile 11 and of a plastic profile 12. Consequently, the interruption of the thermal bridge is clearly ensured by this profile structure. Inversely, the profile 11 may be a plastic profile, whereas the profile 12 could be made of a light metal. In a particular embodiment, all profiles used to form the ventilation device, could be plastic profiles. The space 13 visible in figure 1 simultaneously then receives both the glazing panel or crossbeam and the usual rubber joint. On the other hand, it should be noted, that at the top, the interruption of the thermal bridge is achieved by the presence, in the upper part of the ventilation device, of the profile 3 of plastic material. Due to the presence of the plastic profile along the internal side of the external hood 1, a freezing of the regulating valve 8, likewise consisting of a synthetic material, should practically not be feared.
  • At the bottom of the external hood is a grid 14. This grid 14 is created by the perforation of the plate extending between the upper profile and the lower profile. Along the internal side of the ventilation device is a second, perforated grid 15, of light metal, clipped over the protrusions 16 and 17, belonging respectively to the plastic profiles 3 and 12. In the length of the ventilation device, regularly spaced supports 18 are provided in order to strengthen the whole.
  • The ventilation device according to the invention is finished at both ends by end hoods 19, which are both provided with an operating mechanism. An end hood is laterally sealed by a plate 20 with an arched slot 21 through which an axle 22 passes, that fits into the hollow regulating valve 8. The axle 22 is put into the desired position by an operating mechanism that is controlled from the outside.
  • Characteristic for the invention is the interchangeability of the plates 20, which each show a different arched slot 21, each time with a differing length. The length of said slot is selected as a function of the desired air flow rate through the ventilation device. The desired air flow rate may also be changed by adapting the perforated grid 15 to the desired air flow rate. Said grid 15 may be both a light metal plate and a plastic plate.
  • For the operation of the regulating valve, a technical solution is proposed, showing the following features. These features may be summarized as follows:
  • a) on the wall 19' of the end hood 19 (fig. 3), an elongated thickening 23 is provided, showing a slot 24 at the top to receive a sliding component 25 (fig. 4) that is partly protruding to the outside. The component 25 shows two passages 26 and 26' along both sides of an axle 27. Through these passages 26 and 26', a rope can be passed to operate a handle 29;
  • b) in the same thickening 23, a passage 30 is provided, through which the handle 29 is slided. The handle 29 (fig. 5) on the one hand ends into two spring lips 31 between which above said axle 22 is clamped. It is by intervention of this axle 22 that the regulating valve 8 is controlled.
  • The opposite end of the handle 29 shows a slot 32 to receive the rope 28. How the handle 29 can be moved up and down, can be easily deduced from fig. 6.
  • The various advantages of the ventilation device according to the invention may be summarized as follows:
  • Water drawn in with the air circulating in the space between the external hood 1 and the whole formed by the profiles 11 and 12 with the component 9 clipped thereto, the regulating valve is connected with, cannot penetrate into the ventilation device. The connection between the regulating valve 8 at the external side of the glazing panel or crossbeam (in the space 13) prevents the penetration of water.
  • Because the regulating valve is located next to the glazing panel or crossbeam, the ventilation device can remain limited in height and in width.
  • The regulating valve, which is located as near as possible to what may be called the inlet of the ventilation device, holds up both dust and water close to this inlet.
  • Due to the provision of a plastic profile 3 along the internal side of the profile 2 which forms the external hood, as has already been said, no freezing of the regulating valve should be feared. Because of the presence of the plastic profile 3, the thermal isolation is sharply improved.
  • At a half open position of the regulating valve, an excellent retaining of water is already ensured.
