Claims (13)

  1. A handle for an openable part of a motor vehicle, of the type comprising a handle support member (14) adapted to be fixed to the inside of an outer bodywork panel (12) of the openable part in two successive fitting movements, namely a first movement in which it approaches the panel, in an outward direction from the inside and at a right angle to the panel, in the course of which movement the support member (14) is brought to an intermediate fitting position in which it is in contact with an internal face (34) of the bodywork panel, and a securing second movement in a direction parallel to the panel, in the course of which the support member (14) is brought to a final position fastened on the panel;
    and of the type in which the handle support member (14) includes securing lugs (36) whereby the handle support member is fixed on the panel, each lug comprising a connecting foot portion (38) and a terminal hooking portion (40) which are engaged through an aperture (22, 28) of the panel during the approach movement, and locking means (48) for preventing return of the support member (14) from its final position to its intermediate fitting position,
    characterised in that the locking means comprise at least one resilient arm (48), a free end (50) of which is in engagement against an internal face (34) of the bodywork panel (12) so long as the support member (14) is between its intermediate fitting position and its final position,
    in that, when the support member (14) reaches its final position, the end (50) of the resilient arm (48) co-operates with a locking notch (52) formed in the panel (12),
    in that the support member (14) includes at least two lugs (36) which are offset from each other in a direction at right angles to the securing direction,
    and in that, in the final position of the support member (14), the connecting foot portions (38) of the two lugs (36) are in engagement, respectively, against two abutment edges (44) of the aperture (22, 28) in the panel (12) which are inclined with respect to the securing direction and which extend in directions substantially symmetrical with respect to the securing direction, whereby to determine the position of the support member (14) in the two directions in the plane of the panel (12).
  2. A handle according to Claim 1, characterised in that the handle includes a gripping member (16) which is arranged on the outside of the body panel (12) and which is fixed on the handle support member (14).
  3. A handle according to the preceding Claim, characterised in that the gripping member (16) is articulated on the support member (14) and is able to be brought from a rest position to an opening position.
  4. A handle according to any one of the preceding Claims, characterised in that the locking means comprise a locking body (56) having a fastening claw (58) which, when the handle support member (14) has reached its final position, is engaged in an inward transverse direction through an aperture (28) formed in the external bodywork panel (12), so as to be engaged in a complementary cavity (62) in the handle support member (14), in such a way that a lateral rear surface (64) of the claw (60) is in engagement against a rear edge (66) of the aperture (28), whereby to prevent any return of the assembly consisting of the support member (14) and locking body (56) to the intermediate fitting position.
  5. A handle according to the preceding Claim, characterised in that the said openable part includes an internal space delimited by two panels, namely an internal panel and an external panel (12) which are joined together by a side panel (96), in that the handle support member (14) is disposed in the internal space of the openable part, and in that the handle includes a stop member (68) for blocking movement of the claw (60) of the locking body (56) in the cavity (62) of the support member (14), the stop member (68) being movably mounted on the handle support member (14) and being controlled for movement between a releasing position and a blocking position, by a control mechanism (84) which is adapted to be manoeuvred through an aperture(98) formed in the side panel (96) of the openable part.
  6. A handle according to the preceding Claim, characterised in that the stop member (68) is mounted for sliding movement in the support member (14) in a direction at right angles to the transverse direction of engagement of the locking body (56), and in that the stop member (68) includes at least one finger element (78) which, in the blocking position, is received in a complementary seating (80) in the claw (60) of the locking body (56), so as to prevent the locking body (56) from being able to be extracted to the outside in a transverse direction.
  7. A handle according to the preceding Claim, characterised in that the finger element (78) and seating (80) cooperate with each other through two complementary flat surfaces (90, 92) which are inclined with respect to the transverse direction of engagement of the locking body (56), and with respect to the direction of the sliding movement of the stop member (68), in such a way that, when the stop member (68) is taken towards its blocking position, the locking body (56) is urged transversely inwards by the finger element (78) of the stop member (68).
  8. A handle according to any one of Claims 4 to 7, characterised in that the claw (60) of the locking body (56) is guided in sliding movement in the transverse direction in the handle support member (14).
  9. A handle according to the preceding Claim, characterised in that the stop member (68) is in the form of a U-shaped stirrup having two parallel, longitudinal branches (70) joined together at their rear end by a base portion (72) which extends at right angles to the two branches (70) and at right angles to the transverse direction, in that the stirrup (68) is introduced longitudinally in the rearward direction, to an advanced releasing position, in a complementary slide (74) formed at the rear of the support member (14), and in that the stirrup (68) is brought by the control means (84) longitudinally rearwards into its blocking position, in which finger elements (78) formed at the front end of each branch (70) are engaged in corresponding seatings (80) in the claw (60) of the locking body (56), the latter then being received between the two longitudinal branches (70) of the stop stirrup (68).
  10. A handle according to the preceding Claim, characterised in that the handle support member (14) includes means (82) for pre-positioning the stop member (68), whereby to hold it in its release position while the handle is being fitted.
  11. A handle according to Claim 9 or Claim 10, characterised in that the control means comprise a threaded rod (84) with a longitudinal axis, which is screwed into the base portion (72) of the stirrup (68) so that the front end (88) of the rod bears on a surface (64) which is fixed in the longitudinal sense, the rear end of the rod having a slot (86) complementary with that of a manoeuvring tool which is adapted to be introduced through the aperture (98) in the side panel (96) of the openable part.
  12. A handle according to the preceding Claim, characterised in that the threaded rod (84) is in engagement against a lateral surface (64) of the daw (60) of the locking body (56).
  13. A handle according to any one of Claims 4 to 11, characterised in that the locking body (56) is adapted to receive a lock.
