Description

The invention relates to a water / air cooler for internal combustion engines, in particular for commercial vehicles with the features of the preamble in claim 1.
The water / air cooler designed in this way is known from EP 504 034. In the known water / air cooler, all connections of the side parts to the plastic water tanks are made by means of thread-cutting screws. The screwing operations are time consuming and each screw represents an individual part that must be provided. Therefore there are solutions, such as those from EP 346 602 and EP 504 635, which do not require screw connections. For this purpose, positive connections are provided, which consist of pegs molded onto the plastic water tank, which snap into openings in the side parts. In the first-mentioned document, four pegs have been formed on each end of the box, making the box shape quite expensive on the tool side. The side parts themselves are made of plastic and have additional snap hooks that are not particularly reliable. When installing or transporting the parts, the hooks can break off or at least be damaged. Similar disadvantages can be assigned to the second document. The main disadvantage of both documents should be mentioned that the mounting of the side parts of the cooler can not be done by inserting the side parts in the direction of the flat tubes of the cooler or perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the plastic boxes, but only by moving them sideways, in the longitudinal direction of the plastic boxes, which means that the tabs the side parts are bent open. Furthermore, these positive connections do not allow the cooling network to expand in length when it is heated. For this, extra precautions must be taken in the side panels from the known solutions. Ribs or the like are usually embossed into the side parts. Any deformation on the side part affects the tool costs. It is therefore desirable to enable the cooling network to expand in length, without having to make beads or incisions in the side part that reduce stability for this purpose.

The object of the invention is a simple connection, the one under narrow spatial conditions simplified assembly of the side parts with the Allows plastic water tanks and the length of the cooling network allowed.

This object is achieved by the characterizing features of claim 1.
Because of the bend in the web part of the side part and the sliding reception of the pins in the corresponding openings, the solution according to the invention allows the cooling network to expand in the longitudinal direction of the flat tubes. The elasticity achieved in this area by the fold ensures additional safety. In principle, elongated holes in the side panels are no longer necessary. However, they can be provided, to a certain extent, in addition. Threading screws are inserted through the holes, which are used to connect the side parts to the plastic water tanks on the opposite tank. The screws used for this purpose have a collar formed on the screw head, the diameter of which is slightly smaller than the small diameter of the elongated hole or the hole diameter and the thickness of which corresponds to the thickness of the side part.

The assembly process was simplified in that the side parts in both Longitudinal direction of the plastic boxes as well as perpendicular to it, i.e. from above the cooler can be brought up. This is especially true in tight spaces Conditions of importance. The pins are first inserted into the openings inserted in the web part, with the locking elements at the same time Snap in the tabs on the side parts behind the stops on the plastic box. The Locking element effect the provisional fastening of the side parts in their target position. Then the screw connection on the opposite Box done. The arrangement of the pegs on the transverse wall of the water tank, which in the direction the flat tubes point away has the additional advantage that the formability the water box has been simplified from the injection mold and that the tool costs are not significantly increased despite the tenons.

  • Fig. 2 zeigt ein erstes Ausführungsbeispiel in der Seitenansicht;
  • Fig. 3 zeigt eine Ansicht der Fig. 2, von oben;
  • Fig. 4 zeigt ein zweites Ausführungsbeispiel in der Seitenansicht;

  • Fig. 6 zeigt ein drittes Ausführungsbeispiel in der Seitenansicht;
  • Fig. 7 zeigt eine Ansicht der Fig. 6, von oben;
  • Fig. 8 zeigt eine Ansicht in Richtung des Pfeiles in Fig. 1;
    Das linke Seitenteil 6 und das rechte Seitenteil 7 verbinden die Wasserkästen 1 und 2. Die untere Verbindung 8 ist mittels gewindeschneidender Schrauben 9 ausgeführt, die in glattwandige Bohrungen 12 eingeschraubt sind, die in Vorsprüngen an den Wänden des Wasserkastens 2 eingeformt sind. In den Laschen 10 der Seitenteile sind dazu Langlöcher 11 vorgesehen. Der wesentliche Unterschied zum EP 504 034 besteht darin, daß auch von der linken und rechten Stirnseite gewindeschneidende Schrauben 9 eingedreht worden sind, die sich ebenfalls in glattwandigen Bohrungen 12 befinden. Es versteht sich, daß aus diesem Grund auch im Stegteil 17 der Seitenteile 6 und 7 Löcher 11 vorgesehen worden sind, was jedoch aus den Abbildungen nicht zu sehen ist. The invention is explained below in exemplary embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings.
  • Fig. 1 shows a water / air cooler;
  • Fig. 2 shows a first embodiment in side view;
  • Fig. 3 shows a view of Fig. 2, from above;
  • Fig. 4 shows a second embodiment in side view;
  • Figure 4a is similar to Figure 4;
  • Fig. 5 shows a view of Fig. 4 or 4a, from above;
  • Fig. 6 shows a third embodiment in side view;
  • Fig. 7 shows a view of Fig. 6, from above;
  • Fig. 8 shows a view in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1;
  • The water / air cooler has a cooling network 3, which consists of one or more rows of flat tubes and between the flat tubes arranged wave-shaped and provided with slats and connected by brazing to the cooling network 3 and otherwise need not be described because it is widely known. In Fig. 1, only a small section of the entire cooling network 3 has been drawn in, bottom left. The entire area between the upper plastic water tank 1 and the lower plastic water tank 2 is filled by the cooling network 3. The flat tubes extend between the upper 1 and the lower water tank 2, so that the coolant can flow through the inlet opening 4 into the upper water tank 1 and through the flat tubes to the lower water tank 2 to return through the outlet opening 5 in the lower water tank 2 to be able to flow the cooling circuit. The cooling air flows through the fins perpendicular to the plane of the drawing in FIG. 1.
    The left side part 6 and the right side part 7 connect the water boxes 1 and 2. The lower connection 8 is carried out by means of thread-cutting screws 9, which are screwed into smooth-walled bores 12, which are molded into projections on the walls of the water box 2. For this purpose, elongated holes 11 are provided in the tabs 10 of the side parts. The main difference to EP 504 034 is that thread-tapping screws 9 have also been screwed in from the left and right end faces, which are also located in smooth-walled bores 12. It is understood that for this reason holes 11 have also been provided in the web part 17 of the side parts 6 and 7, but this cannot be seen from the figures.

    Both side parts 6 and 7 serve to support the radiator in the vehicle, for which purpose corresponding brackets 13 are provided. For this reason, their sufficient stability and also a secure connection with the plastic water tanks 1 and 2 is essential. The screws 9, which are also inserted from the end faces, make their contribution to this.
    The upper connection 14 encircled in FIG. 1 has been shown in more detail in FIGS. 2 to 7 in several examples. It is understood that it makes no difference whether the connection 14 is provided at the top or at the bottom. 2 and 3, the pins 15 have been formed directly on the transverse wall 16 of the plastic box 1. They extend in the direction of the flat tubes, i.e. vertically upwards in the picture. The web part 17 has a bend 18 and three openings 19. The bend here has an angle 21 of 90 ° because the transverse wall 16 is arranged parallel to the tube sheets 24. The size of the angle 21 is thus determined by the geometry of the water tank 1 and can easily deviate from the exemplary embodiments shown. The openings 19 have a collar 20 which is directed upwards in FIGS. 2 and 3. It goes without saying that rounded edges are provided both on the pins 15 and on the openings 19 in order to facilitate the insertion of the pins 15 into these openings 19.
    Fig. 3 shows that the pin 15 and the corresponding openings 19 are arranged to each other so that they enclose an equilateral triangle. Of some importance is now the shape of the individual openings 19, which is the same for all openings 19, but two openings 19 are arranged with their longitudinal axis in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the water tank 1 and the third opening with its longitudinal axis transverse to it. The fixation is achieved in the longitudinal and transverse directions. On the tabs 10 there is a molding in the form of a latching element 22, which has been arranged at the end of the tabs 10 facing the radiator center. The locking elements 22 are semicircular in cross-section, so that when the side parts 6 and 7 are slid on, the tabs 10 bend slightly using the elasticity and the side parts 6 and 7 can be brought into their desired position, where the locking elements 22 are formed behind on the water tank 1 Stop attacks 23. The folded web part 17 is located only at one end of the side parts 6 and 7, not at the opposite other end of the side parts 6 and 7.

Therefore, the side parts 6 and 7 can also be mounted from above by the lower end of the side parts 6 and 7 provided with the elongated holes 11 first grips the upper water tank 1 and then vertically can be moved to the target position below.

    4, 4a and 5, an embodiment is shown in which the pins 15 are individual parts that could be made of metal. These pins 15 also have a cylindrical head 24, which is followed by a thread-cutting screw 25. In the transverse wall 16 of the plastic water tank 1 there are smooth-walled bores or blind holes 27 into which the pins 15 can be screwed with their screws 25. (Fig. 4a) In the exemplary embodiment according to Fig. 4, a smooth-walled pin 28 is formed on the pin 15 , which is simply inserted into the smooth-walled bore 27. Since only forces transverse to the longitudinal axis of the pins 15 have to be absorbed here, such an embodiment is also possible and even more cost-effective.
    6 and 7 differ from FIGS. 2 and 3 in that a different shape of the pin 15 has been selected. Analogously, the openings 19 have been adapted to the shape of the pin 15. The collar 20 is directed inwards.
    8 shows the lower fastening in the exemplary embodiment somewhat closer. Tapping screws 9 are screwed into smooth-walled bores 12. The area of the screws 9 was broken out. The smooth-walled bores 12 are formed in projections 26 on the plastic box. Such screws 9 have been provided both in the web part 17, that is to say the end face of the water cooler, and in the tabs 10, that is to say from the front sides of the water cooler.
