Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for assembling superimposed wooden planks constituting building walls.
- the walls thus formed are juxtaposed and connected by their lateral edges in the extension of each other, so as to form a continuous wall, or at right angles (with L, T, or X connections).
- the assembly of the superimposed planks on the one hand and the connection of the walls formed by the overlapping planks on the other hand can be ensured by an old half-wood notching process consisting in providing a notch in the ends of the planks and to criss-cross the ends of the adjacent boards by fitting the notches into each other.
- assembly devices More recently, specific assembly devices have been proposed in order to reduce manufacturing costs and improve the mechanical characteristics of the construction. These assembly devices mainly comprise vertical uprights equipped with means for connecting the ends of the boards with these uprights.
- each green amount 'ical is a continuous section and the connecting means of this amount with each series of plates forming a single wall are in the form of a vertical slide formed in the recess of one face of the vertical upright and in which one of the ends of each is engaged board.
- the boards are thus stacked edge to edge to form a wall.
- Several slides can be provided on different faces of the vertical upright to assemble several series of superimposed boards constituting several walls which are thus interconnected at an angle or in line with one another.
- a drawback of this device lies in the fact that the wall formed by the stacking of planks edge to edge is subject to significant dimensional variations of the wood constituting the boards as a function of atmospheric conditions and in particular of the degree of humidity of the 'ambiant air. Wood fibers being mainly longitudinal, these dimensional variations are essentially sensitive in a transverse direction of the boards, that is to say vertically.
- Document FR 2,556,022 also discloses an assembly device in which the means for connecting the vertical upright with the boards are produced in the form of a series of studs integral with the vertical upright and extending perpendicular thereto. ci in a common vertical plane to cooperate with mortises formed in the corresponding end of the boards.
- This kind of device makes it possible to free the wall formed by each stack of boards from dimensional variations of the wood as a function of atmospheric conditions.
- the superimposed boards are no longer stacked on top of each other, but are instead subject vertically to the vertical upright by the studs associated with them.
- the vertical spacing of the boards between them is therefore fixed by that of the studs, so that the boards can work independently of each other by expanding or contracting freely according to atmospheric conditions without these variations dimensions are not reflected on the wall they form.
- An object of the invention is to design a connecting device of the tenon and mortise type, allowing easy and rapid assembly while retaining good mechanical strength.
- a device for assembling at least one series of wooden planks which each have two opposite ends and two opposite longitudinal edges and which are superimposed edge against edge to form a wall comprising a vertical upright equipped with means for connecting one of the two ends of each board with this upright, these connecting means comprising, for each series of superimposed boards, a series of tenons extending perpendicular to the vertical upright, in a common vertical plane, to cooperate with mortises formed in the corresponding end of the boards, device in which the vertical upright consists of a plurality of sections abutted to each other and each equipped with one of the studs from each set of studs.
- each section forms a versatile connecting element which makes it possible to form a vertical upright of height adapted to the circumstances.
- each of the sections is tubular and is fitted onto a rod forming a core common to all the sections.
- the vertical upright thus obtained has a particularly high mechanical strength.
- the manufacture of the sections and of the rod is simple and inexpensive.
- each of the sections has two homologous nesting ends. The mounting of the vertical upright is therefore particularly simple and rapid.
- each of the sections is tubular and partially receives, in one of its two ends, a stud of which a part is tightly mounted in the end of the section and of which another part projects beyond the section in order to be nestable in the other end of the adjacent section.
- each tenon is retained in the mortise of the corresponding board by a pin passing through slots made substantially in correspondence in the board and the tenon. This improves the rigidity and stability of the assembly.
- the pin has a conical end.
- the conical end of the pin acts as an entry ramp which forces the registration of the lumens of the tenon and of the board, so as to obtain a tight and prestressed plating of the end of the board against the vertical upright.
- the mortises formed in the ends of boards are formed as bores cylindri ⁇ c, while the tenons of the vertical upright are made in the form of platelets arranged in a plane parallel to vertical upright.
- a rigid assembly device is thus obtained, which is easy to manufacture and to assemble.
- the vertical upright has a flat face on which the studs protrude, and the ends of the boards have a flat central part of width at most equal to that of the vertical upright and two lateral chamfers forming a angle of about 45 ° with the flat end face. This prevents the facing parts of two boards connected at right angles to the vertical upright from interfering with each other.
- the two opposite longitudinal edges of the boards have homologous interlocking shapes of trapezoidal section.
- the adjacent edges of each pair of superimposed boards interpenetrate to reinforce the solidity of the assembly and to avoid any openwork between the superimposed boards. There is indeed necessarily between these boards a variable expansion play according to the atmospheric conditions.
- the trapezoidal section shape of the longitudinal edges of the boards ensures, in the event of stress, a good mechanical resistance of the interlocking.
- each board can be reinforced by a metallic inner core having two ends in each of which is provided a notch bearing on the post concerned with the vertical upright.
- FIG. 1 is a sectional view through a vertical plane of a device for assembling two series of superimposed boards constituting two walls arranged in the extension of one of the 'other;
- FIG. 2 is a sectional view along the line II-II of Figure 1;
- FIG. 3 is a detail view in elevation of a board alone
- - Figure 4 is a side view along arrow IV of Figure 3;
- - Figure 5 is a bottom view along arrow V of Figure 3;
- FIG. 6 is a detail view in elevation of a section of the vertical upright
- FIG. 7 is a top view along arrow VII of Figure 6;
- FIG. 8 is a detail view of the pin used to retain each tenon in the mortise in which it is received;
- FIG. 9, 10 and 11 are views similar to Figure 2, respectively illustrating assembly devices according to the invention of two, three and four series of superimposed wooden planks constituting two, three and four walls connected respectively in L, in T and in X;
- - Figures 12, 13 and 14 are analog views gues respectively in Figures 1, 3 and 4, illustrating an improved embodiment of the invention;
- Figures 15 and 16 are views similar to Figures 1 and 6 respectively, illustrating another alternative embodiment of the invention.
- FIGs 1 to 6 there is shown a device for assembling two series 1, 2 of wooden boards 3 superimposed.
- Each of the two series 1, 2 of boards 3 constitutes a construction wall such as an exterior wall or an interior partition.
- each wooden board 3 has a profile shape of substantially rectangular section and has two opposite ends 4 and two opposite longitudinal edges 6, 7.
- the ends 4 of each board are identical and have each a flat central face 8 of width 1 and two lateral chamfers 9 forming an angle a of approximately 45 ° with the end face 8.
- the two opposite longitudinal edges 6, 7 of the boards 3 have homologous interlocking shapes: the edge 6 has a trapezoidal section rib and the edge 7 has a corresponding trapezoidal section notch.
- the boards 3 of each series 1, 2 are arranged in a vertical plane, with their horizontal longitudinal direction, and are superimposed edge against edge.
- the rib and the notch of the adjacent edges 6, 7 of each pair of superimposed boards 3 interpenetrate, which reinforces the solidity of the assembly and avoids any perforation between the boards 3.
- the walls 1,2 thus formed are juxtaposed and connected by their lateral edges formed by the ends 4 of the boards 3, by means of the device according to the invention.
- the two walls 1, 2 are arranged in the extension of one another.
- the assembly device according to the invention comprises a vertical metal upright 10, equipped with means for connecting one of the two ends 4 of each board 3 with this upright.
- These connecting means comprise, for each series 1, 2 of superimposed boards, a series of metal studs 11, extending perpendicular to the vertical upright 10, in a common vertical plane, to cooperate with mortises 12 formed in the end 4 correspondent of plate 3 concerned.
- the upright 10 having a hollow square section, the two series of tenons there are fixed on two opposite faces of the upright 10.
- the width of each face of the upright 10 is at least equal to that 1 . of the end face 8 of the boards 3.
- the mortises 12 are produced in the form of cylindrical bores, while the tenons 11 of the vertical upright 10 are produced in the form of plates of rectangular section having two long sides parallel to the vertical upright 10 and two short sides .
- Each tenon 11 is fixed to the vertical upright 10 by four weld beads 13, 14 formed on the long and short sides of the tenon. Each weld bead is smaller than the side of the post on which it is formed. The weld beads 13, 14 do not extend over the angular parts of the tenon 11. It is thus possible to provide a small clearance between the tenon 11 and the mortise 12, the angular parts of the tenon 11 coming into contact with the face cylindrical interior of the mortise 12.
- Each tenon 10 is retained in the corresponding mortise 12 by a pin 15 passing through lights formed substantially in correspondence respectively in Plate 3 and the post there.
- the lumen 17 of the stud 11 on the one hand and the lumens 16 of the board 3 on the other hand are, before mounting the pin 15, slightly offset.
- the pin 15 has a conical end 18. In this case, this end is formed on a front portion 19 separable from a main portion 15.1 of the pin 15 by means of a circular notch 20 for initiating breakage.
- the main portion 15.1 has a length close to the thickness of the board 3.
- the vertical upright 10 consists of a plurality of sections 21 abutted to each other and each equipped with one of the tenons 11 of each series of tenons.
- each section 21 is therefore equipped with two studs 11 arranged opposite one of the other.
- the sections 21 are tubular and are fitted on a rod 22 forming a core common to all the sections and performing their assembly. During assembly, each board 3 is fixed to the section
- the conical end 18 of the pin 15 penetrates into the lumen 17 of the post 11 and, forcibly pushed in, causes the recalibration of the lights 16 and 17, the end face 8 of the board 3 then being pressed prestressed against the section 21 of the vertical upright 10.
- the front portion 19 projects from one of the faces of the board 3 and is detached from the main portion 15.1 by breaking the pin in the rupture initiation zone formed by the circular notch 20.
- a wooden cover 23, constituted by a profile of trapezoidal section, can be arranged between the lateral chamfers 9 of the ends 4 of the boards 3 and of the walls 1 and 2, on either side of the vertical upright 10 .
- FIGs 9 to 11 there are shown three assembly devices according to the invention, similar to that previously described with reference to Figures 1 to 8, and respectively providing an L-shaped connection of two walls 30, 31, a connection in T of three walls 40, 41, 42 and an X connection of four walls 50, 51, 52, 53.
- the walls 30 and 31, 40 to 42 and 50 to 53 are of identical constitution to that of walls 1 and 2 of the embodiment previously described with reference to Figures 1 to 8.
- the device comprises the vertical upright 10 consisting of sections 21 butted and fitted on the rod 22.
- the means for connecting the boards 3 with the vertical upright 10 comprise two series of tenons 11 extending in vertical planes substantially perpendicular to each other. More precisely, the vertical upright 10 having a square section, the two series of tenons 11 are fixed on two adjacent faces of the upright 10.
- the means for connecting the boards 3 to the vertical upright 10 comprise three series of tenons 11 formed in three vertical planes forming between them right angles. More specifically, the vertical upright 10 having a square section, the three sets of tenons 11 are fixed on three different faces of the upright 10. As before, the shape of the ends of the boards 3, with their face 8 of narrower width than the upright 10 and their lateral chamfers 9 makes it possible to avoid any conflict of the boards 3 with each other.
- a cover 23 identical to that described with reference to FIG. 2, is disposed between the boards 3 of the walls 40 and 41.
- the means for connecting the boards 3 with the vertical upright 10 comprise four series of tenons 11 arranged in four vertical planes perpendicular two by two. More specifically, the vertical upright 11 having a square section, each series of tenons 11 is fixed to one of the four faces of the upright 10. As previously, the shape of the ends of the boards 3 makes it possible to avoid any conflict between the boards of the walls adjacent to each other.
- each free face of the vertical upright may have slots for interlocking studs.
- Figures 12 to 14 show an alternative embodiment of an assembly device according to the invention.
- This device comprises, as before, the vertical upright 10 consisting of sections 21 butted and fitted onto the rod 22.
- two series of tenons 11 are fixed on two opposite faces of the vertical upright 10 to connect this upright two plank walls 3 arranged in the extension of one another.
- each board here designated by the general reference 60 differs from that of the boards
- a metallic inner core 61 of reinforcement This core is constituted by a rectangular section plate embedded in the wood constituting the board 60.
- the core 61 has, with one of its ends, a notch 62 which receives the corresponding pin 11 2.
- the metal cores 61 of the boards 60 constitute thus, with the vertical metal upright 10 and the metal studs 11, a particularly rigid and resistant entirely metallic structure in which the resumption of the forces only involves metallic elements.
- the metal cores 61 of the boards 60 can serve as a support element for a ridge or a slab.
- FIGS. 15 and 16 there is shown another alternative embodiment of an assembly device according to the invention. This device differs from that previously described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 6 by the constitution of the vertical upright, which is here designated by the general reference 70.
- This vertical upright 70 is composed of a plurality of sections 71 abutted to each other and each equipped with one of the tenons 11 of each series of tenons.
- the sections 71 are assembled, not by means of a common unitary core on which it would be fitted, but independently thanks to homologous fitting means provided for two ends of each section 71.
- each section 71 is produced in the form of a tube portion (of circular or polygonal section) which has a male end 72 fitted with a fitting part 73, and a female end 74 capable of receiving with little play the fitting part 73 of the first end 72 of the adjacent section 71.
- the fitting part 73 is constituted by a tube portion which is fixed in the end 72 of the section 71. A part of this tube portion 73 is mounted clamped in the end 72 of the section 71, while the remaining part of this portion of tube projects beyond the section 71 to be nestable in the end 74 of the adjacent section 71.
- the assembly of the sections 71 to form the vertical upright 70 is thus carried out in an extremely simple and rapid manner by simple interlocking of these sections by their ends.
