  1. A device which is disposed in a rail vehicle (1) and by means of which a lubricant can be applied to the surface of a rail wheel rim (3) and/or at least one rail of a track member, the device being operable in dependence on the control signal of a control system (7),
    characterised in that the control system (7) comprises a signal receiver (9) for the reception of data via which the particular position (x, y) of the rail vehicle (1) can be determined, and an evaluation system (10) which compares the particular position (x, y) of the rail vehicle (1) with positions (Ax, Ay) stored in a storage system (11) and which, when the particular position (x, y) of the rail vehicle (1) agrees with one of the stored positions (Ax, Ay), delivers a signal for triggering or terminating the lubricating operation.
  2. A device according to claim 2,
    characterised in that the signal receiver (9) receives a radio signal, more particularly a satellite signal (S).
  3. A device according to one of claims 1 or 2,
    characterised in that each of the stored positions (Ax, Ay) is associated with at least one item of information (LR) concerning the course of the rail section following the particular stored position (Ax, Ay).
  4. A device according to one of claims 1 to 3,
    characterised in that the control system (7) is coupled to a device for tracking the location of the rail vehicle (1).
  5. A device according to claim 4,
    characterised in that the location (x, y) of the rail vehicle (1) is tracked by satellite navigation.
