Description

Package and a method for manufacturing said package.
The present invention relates to a package for a continuous flexible device which is wound up into a coil like a cable, a line, a rope, a hawser, a wire, a hose or similar within a protective enclosing casing which is suitable for storage and transport .
A method for packaging for example cable in the form of a coil in a package for feeding out from within, is known from SE-B-469 228. However, the pulled out cable etc. will present a spiral shaped persistent form like a spiral. This is a considerable disadvantage and for avoiding this, it would be necessary to rotate the package and thus to compensate for said spiral shape.
SE-B-469,228 also presents a package which protects during storing and handling for example cable. The cable is spooled into a standing cylinder and is pulled out as a coil and it will therefore turn itself one revolution for each revolution of the cable which is pulled out from the cylinder, i.e. the cable will turn itself which is exactly what the present invention is aiming to solve, so that the cable will be straight when it is pulled from the packing.
It is evident that there is a need for a device which solves this problem.
GB-A-2, 143, 870 relates to a system for winding where a wire is wound onto a drum from which the wire is later wound off. A drum less coil is utilised from which the wire is wound off from the outside by means of a means of assistance. This also results in that the outfeed opening will be unlimited and it would cover the entire gable of the package.
For this object a special rotating cable outfeed device (45) which is described on page 2, lines 27-38, must be utilised for feeding out the wire (12) from a wire drum (15) . Nothing is mentioned about packaging of the wire and thus no axial outfeed through an outfeed opening at one side of the package.
US-A- 1,431,352 relates to a package from which it is possible to pull a short or a long piece of a conduit through an opening without having to break the package. This package discloses nothing related to any preshaping of the conduit but is only a package from which it is possible to pull out conduit or the like several times without damaging the contents .
US-A- 3,135,380 relates to a package support which enables a tilted positioning of the package. This is not the essential for the present invention, even if it could be seen as an advantage when the contents of the package starts to come to an end and the weight of the package is small . By tilting it backwards, it will be more difficult for it to "drop" forward when pulling out wire, conduit or similar.
SE-A- 8404780-2 discloses equipment for moving a wire coil to another coil with the object to exchange inner and outer ends or to cut up a large coil into smaller coils. With this equipment, the wire can not be drawn straight out unless the wire is turned or twisted.
The main object of the present invention is therefore in the first hand to solve said problem efficiently with simple and well functioning means.
Said object is accomplished by means of a package according to the present invention, which is substantially characterized in that the flexible device is wound up preshaped and received within a casing, which is provided with a centrally located outfeed opening for said wound up flexible preshaped device at the front side of said casing, and that the centrally located outfeed opening is formed by an aperture through the casing by what means the flexible device may be drawn out of the casing without rotation of the spool-shaped wound up coil.
The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing a package for a continuous flexible device which is wound up into a coil like a cable,, a line, a rope, a hawser, a wire, a hose or similar within a protective enclosing casing which is suitable for storage and transport .
A further object is therefore to permit manufacturing a suitable package.
Said further object is achieved by means of a method in accordance with the present invention, which is substantially characterized in winding up said mentioned flexible device by preshaping it, that is by a relative movement between a bobbin and a winding up device for said flexible device, whereupon the to a spool-shape wound up flexible preshaped device is moved to a casing allowing it to be enclosed in it with an end extractable through a centrally located outfeed opening at the front side of the casing, and that the centrally located outfeed opening is formed by an aperture through the casing by what means the flexible device may be drawn out of the casing without rotation of the to a spool-shape wound coil and without forming a spiral upon the flexible device.
It should be clearly evident that the continuous flexible device which is wound up into a coil is wound up by preshaping and is then removed to a casing which exhibits a centrally located outfeed opening at one front side of the casing. In this way, the flexible device is arranged so that it can be pulled out from the casing without the need for any rotation of the spool shaped wound coil having to occur and thus, without forming of any spiral upon the flexible device. This a considerable advantage which now is enabled. The mam feature of the present invention is thus that a flexible cable etc. is wound up preshaped to be received inside a casing which is provided with an outfeed opening at its front side.
By that means no extra equipment is needed at the site of pulling out the cable from the formed coil, since the pulling out is done without turning or twisting the cable and which is straight due to its preshaping during loading into said package.
According to the present invention, the cable is pulled out directly from the inner end of the coil without any extra appliances. This is possible due to the preshaping of the cable at its loading and the special design of the package. The pulling out of the cable is done without turning or twisting the cable. This is instead straight due to its preshaping during loading into the package.
The invention will now be described as a preferred embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
Fig. 1 shows a package according to the present invention in an outfeed position for a cable from an enclosing casing seen obliquely from the front,
Fig. 2 shows the package seen from behind, also in the outfeed position for the cable,
Fig. 3 shows an example of an outfeed opening of the package, and
Fig. 4 is an explanatory sketch of a method for winding the cable onto a bobbin for forming a spool shaped
The flexible device 2 is wound up preshaped inside a package 1 according to the present invention, which is designed for housing a cable, a line, a rope, a hawser, a thread, a conduit or some other similar continuous flexible device 2 which is wound up into a coil, which is enclosed within a protective enclosing casing 3 which is suitable for storage and transport of the flexible device 2. This implies that said flexible device 2 is wound up by means of a special wind up apparatus 4 onto a bobbin 5 and that the bobbin 5 and said wind up apparatus 4 in doing so are rotated relative each other m the desired direction of rotation 6 and 7 respectively during the preshaping of the device .
Said wound up preshaped flexible device 2 is freely received inside a rigid casing 3 which exhibits a centrally located outfeed opening 8 in the form of a round hole for said wound up flexible device 2, preferably at the front side 9 of the casing.
The casing is preferably formed by means of a cardboard box 3 which presents a square shape and which is provided with a suitable handle means 10 at its top 11.
Further, the centrally located outfeed opening 8 of the casing 3, is formed by a hole which extends completely through the casing 3 and its front side 9.
It is also possible to realise the casing by means of a soft material, as for example a plastic material, especially shrinking plastic, and which also may display a centrally located outfeed opening according to the previous described embodiment with a rigid casing.
Preferably, the outfeed opening 8 may be arranged to be easily expandable gradually, in order to facilitate outfeed of the flexible device 2 as it is drawn out through the opening 8. Therefore, the casing 3 exhibits on its front side 9 a number of ring-shaped segments 12, 12A ... that may be torn away successively from the inside around said, preferably with circular circumference designed, outfeed opening 8. Preferably, said tear-away segments 12, 12A ... are formed by crooked perforations 13 extending through one wall of the casing and which preferably is provided with easily break off straight perforations 14 running across said perforations 13, starting as seen from the outside circumference 15 of the casing 3. Thus, the diameter of the outfeed opening 8 may be increased when necessary, by tearing away segment after segment 12, 12A.... of the casing wall.
In order to enable erection of the package 1, a support 16 is arranged and which is located at the casing 3. The erection support 16 may be formed by a fold out part 17 upon the back side 3A of the casing 3, and which is provided with an inclined bottom edge 18 with relation to the bottom side 19 of the casing 3 in order to enable tilting of the package 1 for facilitating feeding out forward 20 of the flexible device 2, which may be pulled out in the direction of pull 21.
After winding up the flexible device 2 to a coil, by winding up the flexible device 2 onto an internal bobbin 5 according to prior art, preferably having a cylindrical shape, said formed spool-shaped wound coil is moved to said cardboard shaped casing 3.
The free end 2A of the flexible device may be pulled out through a centrally located outfeed opening 8 at said casing 3 for problem free outfeed without forming a spiral, which otherwise easily could be formed, which may be studied at an electric cable which may be wound up into a coil I.e. that a straight cable now may be obtained when it is pulled out, and without forming any loops that "snutter" (get tangled) into each other.
The flexible device 2 is wound up by preferably rotating said wind up apparatus 4 in the desired direction 6 of winding, and by which the flexible device 2 is supplied to the bobbin 5 and around it in accordance with prior art. Then the flexible device 2 extends axially 23 with reference to said bobbin 5, before the flexible device 2 is fed for tangential 24 supply to the bobbin 5.
Before winding on, the flexible device 2 may be received upon a large reel 25 which is supported by a reel support 26 for easy outfeed to the formed winding up apparatus 4. After winding up the device 2 to a formed spool-shaped coil 27, this is enclosed in the designated casing 3 according to the above, which is a rectangular casing and which is provided with an opening 8 in one side 9 and an erecting support 16 at the opposite side 3A.
The invention is not limited to the above described and in the drawings shown embodiment, but may be varied within the scope of the claims without departing from the inventive concept.
