Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for preventing fraud on a taximeter or on a tachograph.
- a taximeter is, very generally, a device which has for its object indicate the price to be paid for a taxi trip, this price depending several parameters, including the distance traveled by the taxi, i.e. finally the number of wheel turns performed by this vehicle during the race.
- the sensor used to measure this number of wheel turns is then the sensor normally associated with the vehicle dashboard and therefore connected the speedometer which indicates both the instantaneous speed of this vehicle and the mileage covered by it.
- Modern vehicles are almost all equipped with a sensor electromagnetic or electronic of the number of wheel revolutions, called “sensor electronic”, which is provided at the gearbox, and which is equipped an output connector to which a cable is connected which collects and conveys the electrical impulses representative of the number of wheel turns to the speedometer fitted to the dashboard.
- the dashboard is then conventionally equipped with an auxiliary output, which is electrically connected in parallel on this cable, and to which we just plug the input corresponding of the taximeter: the pulses which are conveyed on this cable therefore simultaneously supply the vehicle speedometer and the taximeter, (see EP-A-0664528).
- a small auxiliary pulse generator whose frequency is controlled by that of pulses from the sensor and which consequently delivers pulses whose frequency differs, in a defined ratio which is for example of the order of 1.2, from that of the pulses delivered by this sensor.
- the frequency of the pulses applied to it is then chosen 1.2 times greater than that pulses delivered by the sensor, so that everything happens as if the taxi was traveling at a speed 1.2 times faster than its real speed, which affects the displayed price which is then 1.2 times higher than the price that the customer should actually pay.
- the device of the fraudster is then set to deliver frequency pulses 1.2 times lower than that of the sensor pulses and, for the tachograph, everything is goes as if the truck was traveling at a speed 1.2 times slower than its speed real.
- the invention therefore aims to prohibit any fraud based on a falsification of the speed information which is delivered to the taximeter or to the tachograph.
- a method for preventing fraud on a taximeter or on a tachograph one associated with a taxi and the other with a truck both fitted with a sensor which supplies this taximeter or tachograph, electrical information, such as a pulse train, which is representative of the vehicle speed.
- a anti-fraud action if it is found that the voltage, applied to the taximeter or to the tachograph and representative of said vehicle speed, is modulated in amplitude.
- this anti-fraud action consists in prohibiting the operation of the taximeter or tachograph.
- the said voltage is sampled to determine if it is amplitude modulated.
- the signals originating from the sensor and normally applied to the taximeter or tachograph are square or rectangular signals
- reference 1 designates the sensor tachometer which is mounted on the vehicle to operate the taximeter 2.
- a so-called "electronic" tachometer sensor of a motor vehicle is a transducer that tests a rotating mechanical part of the vehicle, the speed of rotation of this mechanical member being representative of the number of wheel turns carried out by the vehicle, and the generally alternating electrical signal supplied by this transducer corresponding to electrical pulses representative of this number of wheel turns.
- this rotary mechanical organ is the more often one of the gears of the gearbox.
- vehicles nowadays are more and more often provided with a system of braking called "A.B.S.” which uses an electronic sensor for each wheel of the vehicle, and we then use one of these sensors to also operate the taximeter.
- these vehicles are equipped with disc brakes on the four wheels, and therefore each electronic sensor is a proximity which comes to test the presence of notches which are practiced for this purpose on the outer edge of the brake disc.
- the sensor 1 which is therefore in practice placed either at the level of the box either at one of the vehicle's wheels, therefore delivers on its terminals output 3, 4 of the pulses representative of the number of wheel turns performed by the vehicle.
- the pulses from sensor 1 are first applied to a separation amplifier 9, for example gain substantially equal to 1, the output signals of which are applied to one of the inputs 10 of a microprocessor 11 which constitutes the central logic unit, or “C.P.U.”, of this taximeter.
- a separation amplifier 9 for example gain substantially equal to 1
- the output signals of which are applied to one of the inputs 10 of a microprocessor 11 which constitutes the central logic unit, or “C.P.U.”, of this taximeter.
- the microprocessor 11 receives, by pressures exerted on 12-15 pushbuttons placed on the front of the taximeter, signals which are for example either price or operation of the taximeter, either setting signals from the taximeter, or code signals.
- the microprocessor 11 when the microprocessor 11 receives pulses coming from sensor 1 on its input 10, it emits in response, on an output 16, pulses whose frequency is representative, taking into account the parameters previously introduced into the microprocessor 11 by the keyboard 12-15, the number of wheel revolutions performed, since the last start-up of the taximeter by means of the keyboard 12-15, by the vehicle.
- pulses are applied, as they should, to circuit 18 of counting and display of the price to pay.
- a possible fraud consists in connecting in series on the line output speed sensor 1, for example between terminals 3, 4 or terminals 19, 20 bypassing connections 5 and 6, a pulse generator which multiplies the rhythm of the incoming pulses by a determined factor (adjustable manually if necessary), for example a factor 1, 2.
- the width of each slot is that of the slots of the fraud curve B, which means that the pulses of curve C have the same frequency than that of the fraudster's pulse generator, so that the taximeter will measure a speed 20% higher than the real speed of the taxi, and therefore display a price 20% higher than the actual price.
- the microprocessor 11 analyzes, by sampling, the signals which are applied to its input 10.
- the microprocessor 11 then notes that there is fraud, and in consequently he orders the blocking of the taximeter.
- the analysis of the sampling signals can consist of reconstruct, from these samples, this curve C and then determine whether it is indeed a tension which, although having a general appearance of a series of substantially rectangular signals, is modulated regularly, and therefore repetitive, in amplitude.
- curve C of Figure 2 we observe amplitude modulation which, according to a certain law, spans 5 slots successive, then resumes identically on the next 5 slots, and so after.
- analysis after sampling then consists in determining whether or not the resulting voltage C is a sinusoid regularly modulated in amplitude.
- the method can consist in measuring high and / or low peak voltages for a number of high levels and / or low levels of said voltage, whatever its periodic form, at examine the variations in these peak voltages, and trigger the anti-fraud action if, over a given time, there are a certain number of these variations which are of sufficient amplitude, for example greater than a few tenths of Volts.
- the average value of these peak, high and / or low, and the anti-fraud action is triggered if, over this given time, there is more than one number of peak voltage values which differ sufficiently, for example example of more than a few tenths of Volts, of this average value.
- the analysis of the variation of the voltage C can be performed by a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT).
- FFT Fast Fourier Transform
