Description

The invention relates to a tab for electrical connectors, with a contact blade and extending in the longitudinal direction of the contact blade attachment and connection area in which the tab is freestanding fastened to a pad and electrically connected.

In electrical connectors are flat plug contact members often made of a flat, straight contact blade, which is freestanding in a mounting and connection area on a base, for example, on a serving as a contact carrier circuit board, among other things. Such tabs contact elements are generally and therefore also referred to below as a flat plug (DIN 46 244). Flat plug has been attached and connected by soldering to a circuit board. The tabs are plugged by hand with devices and then soldered. The plugging and soldering the tabs is therefore very manual labor intensive and therefore expensive. In addition, soldering in connection with the ever increasing complexity of printed circuit boards is an ever-increasing quality risk. For this reason, a constant process and quality control is required.

There are tabs in angled from a contact blade design and in straight form, which are designed for soldering in printed circuit boards in the contact zone with two Lötanschlußstiften and attached by plugging in the PCB holes and brazing freestanding on the circuit board. Furthermore, from the EP 0 717 468 A2 an existing spring and male connector plug connection known in which the blade contacts are designed as angled tabs contact elements, which are not freestanding housed in an insulating body of the male connector in a housing and provided in the angled by the contact blade mounting and connection area with Einpreßstiften ,

From the US-A-3846741 is in accordance with the preamble of claim 1, a tab known, in which the two contact zones are formed by outwardly curved portions of a folded back on itself sheet metal piece. Both contact zones are plugged into a hole in a circuit board. The bulge provides a spring force that holds the tab in the hole in the circuit board and guarantees secure electrical contact with the conductive inner wall of the hole in the circuit board.

On off US 4,688,866 Known flat plug has between a contact blade and a mounting and connecting portion on both opposite flat sides over the width of the contact blade protruding lateral lugs, which are remnants of a plurality of tabs band-shaped connecting connecting webs. On the side facing a printed circuit board, the flat plug between connecting legs of the flat plug level laterally bent out support elements to form a laterally acting on the tabs forces acting against tilting of the tab plug support.

The invention has for its object to provide for a straight and free-standing tab of the type mentioned a simple and reliable attachment and contacting a pad.

This object is achieved with a tab according to claim 1.

Such a straight tab can be easily introduced with its contact zones by pressing into holes in a pad, for example a contact carrier in the form of a printed circuit board, and is then attached as a free-standing contact to the pad. The designed for a solder-free press-fit connection zones lead in the holes in the pad, z. B. in the metallized holes of a circuit board pressed state to a safe and permanent electrical connection to the pad. The attachment and contacting of a tab according to the invention can therefore be realized quickly, cheaply and reliably.

In such a tab, it is advantageous if the contact zones are formed as pin-shaped press-fit.

With regard to the required holding forces when used as a free-standing contact without housing, it is advantageous if the contact zones are made massive. In principle, however, it is also possible and certainly sufficient in many cases when the contact zones have elastic press-in sections.

In such tabs occur in the attached to the pad state often on the contact blade on the press-fit and thus on the attachment and the electrical connection loads acting on. It is therefore advantageous that, in the case of a flat connector according to the invention, the section of the flat connector formed with the lateral projections is provided with at least one recess. Such a recess is formed in a flat connector consisting of a sheet metal stamping part by a free punching and has, for example, a rectangular shape. However, the geometric design is not bound to the rectangular shape; it is rather different, specified in the remaining dependent claims statements for the geometric shape of a recess possible. In any case, such, arranged in the section with the lateral projections recess forms a predetermined bending point, ie at the contact blade z. B. transverse to the insertion direction acting bending forces is the moment of resistance at the predetermined bending point formed by the recess in consequence of Neck reduction too low to be able to loosen the Einpreßverbindung. Instead, such bending forces are absorbed in the predetermined bending point, which leads to a deformation or deformation of the tab, the contact blade is then bent from the plugging direction. However, the press-fit connection is not loosened, ie the resulting by the recess predetermined bending point forms a protection of Einpreßkontaktierung against loosening and thus secures the Anschlusskontaktierung. When straightening bent flat connectors, the predetermined bending point, in reversal of the described effect, also ensures the continuity of the press-fit contact. It has been confirmed by tests that the bending cycles required in DIN IEC 352 (= simulation of the straightening process of bent connectors) are reliably achieved.

The tab 1 preferably consists of a stamped sheet metal part and has a flat contact blade 2, which is usually bevelled at the free end, with a latching hole 3 lying in the longitudinal center axis. In addition, the tab 1 has a longitudinally aligned to the contact blade 2 extending mounting and connection area 3, in which the thus formed flat plug freestanding on a base, z. B. to a circuit board 4 fastened and electrically connected in plated-through holes of the circuit board. For this purpose, at least two designed for a solder-free press-in connection contact zones 5, 6 are provided in the attachment and connection area 3 of the tab 1, which are expediently designed as a pin-shaped press-fit. The contact zones 5, 6 can be solid or have elastic press-in sections. In order to press the tab in a rational manner with simple press tools in the circuit board 4, the tab between the mounting and connection area 3 and the contact blade 2 on both opposite flat sides of a section A with over the width of the contact blade 2 protruding lateral lugs. 7 , 8 trained. These result at the upper side facing away from the base 4 a shoulder 9 for applying a press tool and at the underside facing the pad a Einpreßanschlag 10. In addition, the formed with the lateral projections 7, 8 section A is provided with a recess 11, d. H. the recess 11 is located outside of the plug or contact region of the contact blade 2 and preferably as close as possible to the mounting and connecting portion 3. The recess 11 provides to protect the Einpreßkontaktierung against loosening and to maintain contact when straightening bent tabs characterized, that in the section A of the tab whose cross-section is preferably substantially reduced, a predetermined bending point, which has a low moment of resistance occurring bending forces to loosen the Einpreßkontaktierung and which at such loads in the desired manner to a bend at a certain point of the tab leads, without affecting the press-in connection and -kontaktierung.

The recess 11 is formed in a sheet metal stamping consisting of a flat connector 1 by a free punching and preferably has a transverse to the direction of insertion of the tab 1 extending rectangular shape. In this case, the recess 11 extends - as in the other embodiments in the FIGS. 2 to 6 - In the direction transverse to the direction of insertion of the tab 1 about the center distance m of the contact zones 5, the sixth

The embodiments in the Figures 2 and 6 differ from the embodiment in FIG. 1 only in the geometric shape of the recess. In FIG. 2 are provided in the sense described above, three smaller circular recesses 11a, which also give a sufficient for a predetermined bending area reduction in section A. This will be in FIG. 3 realized by a single larger recess 11b of circular shape. In FIG. 4 has the recess 11 in the form of a transverse to the direction of insertion of the tab plug extending slot 11c, in FIG. 5 the shape of an ellipse 11d. Finally, the recess 11e in FIG. 6 formed as a triangle. There are also polygonal shapes for the recess conceivable. In any case, by means of the recess arranged symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal center axis of the tab, a cross-sectional reduction sufficient for a predetermined bending point at a specific point of the tab is achieved.
