EP-A-0 710 530).The invention relates to a method and a device for trimming the open Bound edges fed individually or in layers Printed matter according to the preamble of claims 1 and 4 (see, e.g., EP-A-0 710 530).

As a rule, printed products are of the type mentioned at the beginning Type after the printed sheets forming them are bound or after the final attachment of an envelope to the trimmed three open side edges to a desired format. It is possible to have several books on top of each other cut together without changing the clamping make.

Die entlang des Drehtisches angeordneten Schneidstationen beschneiden jeweils eine Seitenkante der in konstanter Lage umlaufenden Bücher.DE - B - 1'266'275 discloses a cutting machine for three-sided trimming of books, brochures or the like, with as many knives as cutting devices, where the books to be trimmed on the open side edges Turntable can be clamped. The turntable points along of handling evenly distributed clamping members on, with the books on the way to the 90 ° offset cutting station pivoted, but aligned in the original position stay. Press plates are assigned to the clamping elements, with which a jammed book in the cutting station on the rotary table and a support piece belonging to the cutting station be pressed. The arranged along the turntable Cutting stations each trim one side edge of books circulating in a constant position.

1 and 2 illustrate a device 1 for carrying out the method according to the invention. This device 1 for trimming the open side edges of books, magazines, brochures and magazines consists of a cutting device 2 having a knife 3 which can be driven in a vertical plane of an approximately horizontal cutting table 22. A lowerable knife bar 25 to which the knife 3 is (replaceably) attached, exerts a scissor-like movement which ends at a cutting bar 26 embedded in the cutting table 22. The cutting table 22, which is the partial surface of the flat processing table 14, is laterally offset from a positioning device 7, which in turn can be driven about an axis of rotation 24 perpendicular to the surface of the processing table 14 and perpendicularly back and forth to the cutting plane of the cutting device 2. For this purpose, the processing table 14, which is designed like a stand on the floor, has a slot-like recess 27 through which a drive shaft 28 connected to the positioning device 7 passes. The drive motor (not shown) of the drive shaft 28 is fastened to a frame (not visible) which is guided beneath the processing table 14 and which is movable parallel to the recess 27. Looking at the processing table 14 in FIG. 1, the positioning device 7 gradually rotates counterclockwise by 90 ° in order to carry out the trimming of the printed products. The positioning device 7 guided in the processing table 14 has two clamping devices 12, 13 on the axis of rotation 24, which are opposite one another, in which the bound printed products 4 to 6 are clamped with the bound side edge 23.
According to FIGS. 1 and 2, each of the clamping devices 12, 13 has a clamping plate 16 sunk in a recess 29 of the processing table 14 which has the slot-like recess 27, one with the processing table. 14 flush clamping or support level forms.
The clamping plates 16 lying flat on the axis of rotation 24 are connected by a connecting web 30 arranged approximately at right angles to the clamping plates 16 in the axis of rotation 24 to a spaced support plate 31 on which a closing plate associated with each clamping plate 16 and an opening position of the clamping device 12, 13 can be displaced 32 is performed. The side of the connecting web 30 facing the clamping devices 12, 13 each form a stop 35 serving as a reference edge for the wide format for the printed products 4 to 6 fed in advance for the bundle and others. The pressure plates 32 are actuated by the schematically illustrated, hydraulically or pneumatically or mechanically or electromechanically actuable piston-cylinder units 33 which are fastened on the support plates 31. The drive unit of the piston-cylinder units 33, which are controlled by valves (not shown), is located on the frame of the drive motor of the positioning device 7, which is not visible in a sled-like manner. As shown in FIG. 1, two printed products 5, 6 are in the cutting position for head and the base edge, in which they are pressed onto the cutting table 22 by a pressing bar 34 arranged in front of the cutting device 2 before cutting. The press beam 34 is controlled in cooperation with the cutting device 2 and the movements of the positioning device 7.
The positioning device 7 is loaded via the processing table 14 approximately parallel to the cutting plane of the cutting device 2 by means of an approximately rectilinear feed movement, in which, for example, a lowered press beam 34 or a side guide which is particularly suitable for this purpose could be used.
The printed products can be fed mechanically to the device 1 in the processing cycle, for example by means of a lift, which guides the printed products 40 in a stacked manner, where, when they reach the processing table 14, they are individually fed or pushed to an open clamping device 12, 13 of the positioning device 7.
The working steps of the positioning device 7 each take place in a 90 ° partial rotary movement and perpendicularly back and forth to the cutting plane of the knife 3 of the cutting device.
A delivery unit 21 is indicated opposite the cutting device 2, through which the printed products leave the processing process.
The printed products can also be removed from the process at a delivery 21 located on the axis of rotation 24 in the processing direction and delivery 270 ° from the loading device.
The processing process is carried out with a programmable control which determines a work cycle required between clamping devices 12, 13 or positioning device 7 and cutting device 2. This should be extended if, for example, a loading device is switched on.

3a to 3f convey in this order a processing sequence from the start of a production with three bound printed products 4 to 6 in connection with a device 1 shown in FIG. 1.
Moreover, these figures show in schematic form the knife 3 of a cutting device 2 and the positioning device 7 of the device viewed from above.
3a shows the starting position of the cutting process, that is to say the first printed product 4 is located in the first clamping device 12 in the cutting position of the head edge 9. Previously, the first printed product 4 had been taken into consideration in a processing plane 8 with regard to the cutting device 2 according to the broken lines or on a processing table 14 of the positioning device 7 according to arrow 15 slightly offset. This measure can be neglected with a corresponding design of the cutting device 2 and does not impair the proposed cutting method.
When the printed product 4 is executed, the first clamping device 12 connected to the positioning device 7 is opened and its clamping plate 16 forms a processing level 8 with the feed plane 8. If the printed products 4 to 6 are each in an offset position - as described above and shown in broken lines - in the If the first clamping device 12 arrive, then a larger feed distance to the cutting device 2 is required than if they only arrive in a straight line in one of the clamping devices 12, 13 around the section 17 to be separated. 3a also shows the clamped printed product 4 in the cutting area.
After the section 17 has been separated by a cutting movement of the knife 3, the printed product 4 clamped in during the entire processing operation, after lifting the knife 3 in the processing plane 8, is rotated by 90 ° and placed in a position in which the front can be trimmed. In this step, the width of the printed product 4 plays a role, which determines the length of the feed path to be covered perpendicular to the knife 3 or the cutting plane. The delivery path can happen to be zero in order to be able to trim the front edge 11 of the printed product 4. In the present case, it is necessary to reset the printed product 4 or the positioning device 7 from the knife 3 due to the ratio of the longitudinal and side edges of the printed product. The translatory movement is indicated by arrow 18, that of the rotating movement by 90 ° by arrow 19 in Fig. 3b.
A subsequent processing step is shown in Fig. 3c. After the knife 3 was lifted, the first printed product 4 was rotated by a further 90 ° and the positioning device 7 was placed in a position in which the second clamping device 13 can receive the next printed product 5. Together, both printed products 4, 5 are moved by a translational movement into the cutting area and trimmed there on the side edges, the foot edge 10 being printed now for print product 4 and the head edge 9 being printed for printed product 5, provided that both printed products 4, 5 are in the same position - Of course, in advance - the first 12 or second clamping device 13 have been fed. The two arrows in FIG. 3c indicate the previously performed movement of the printed products 4, 5, which differ by solid 4 and dash-dotted lines 5. After this processing step, the first printed product 4 is finished and could leave the device 1 according to arrow 20. In the present device 1, however, the delivery indicated by arrow 21 is at nine o'clock in FIG. 3d, which shows the trimming of the front edge 11 of the second printed product 5 and the removal of the first printed product 4 from the clamping device 12. The cutting process on printed product 5 corresponds approximately to the cutting process on printed product 4 according to FIG. 3b.
Thereafter, according to FIG. 3e, the positioning device 7 is placed in the position in which it can receive the third or next printing product 6 by the (first) clamping device 12. The situation in FIG. 3e corresponds approximately to a repetition of FIG. 3c.
In FIG. 3f, the process from FIG. 3d is repeated on the printed products 5 and 6.
