Definitions
- the present invention relates to the technical field of devices depilatory wax application, in which the wax, stored in solid form at room temperature, must be subjected to a heat flux to change state and change to at least a pasty state so that it can be applied.
- the present invention relates more particularly to a wax applicator depilating comprising a housing forming a gripping means, and inside which is provided with a reservoir of product capable of being linked thermal with heating means, as well as an applicator roller arranged across a tank outlet. This roller spreads the hot wax in a sheet or thin strip by rolling it over a surface, by example of the skin, during a translation of the applicator.
- Document FR-A-2520601 discloses a box provided with sleeves heated in which are housed several manual applicators intended for be implemented by the user. Each applicator is provided with a internal reservoir of depilatory wax closed by an applicator roller lined with walls including two longitudinal wiping defining two outlet gaps controlling the flow of molten wax on the roller, so the thickness of the spread layer.
- the temperature of application of the wax is poorly controlled in the measure that the wax is heated only discontinuously only when the applicator is in its sleeve. After a certain period of application, the temperature of the wax decreases rapidly within the tank making its more difficult spreading, resulting in a less well controlled layer thickness, and an appearance of a wax spinning phenomenon.
- the document EP-A-0 368 698 describes a manual applicator comprising in a same housing a wax tank, a heating resistor and a roller applicator. To improve the ease of application of the wax, but also to try to better control the temperature of the wax, it is planned to provide the applicator roller of an independent heating means. However, this means of additional heating can be at the origin of risk of burns of the skin, and makes the manufacture of this applicator more delicate.
- Document FR 2 706 261 by the Applicant describes a similar applicator to the previous one in which the roller comprises an aluminum body in connection thermal by its pins with the heated body of the tank, and the coating is in plastic material for better transport and deposit of the melted wax.
- the roller is removably mounted in side clips to allow access to the tank to fill it.
- this roller is mounted on an internal slide of the reservoir which can be pulled out by translation, but always only for a function filling the tank.
- the dimensions and materials of the roll applicator, as well as the heating means of these applicators are essentially optimized for the application of a thick layer exactly predefined from a predetermined composition of wax.
- the recipe for this wax is normally worked out so that the results of hair removal are more or less satisfactory for both legs and for the armpits and for the face.
- we find that these results are clearly insufficient compared to the requirements of users for each area of their body: either the wax is too much hot, or it is difficult to pour in, or its layer is too thick or too thin, to leave too much hair in place.
- the object of the present invention is an applicator for performing hair removal significantly more effective, and this for each part of the body.
- the applicator must be able to offer greater flexibility of use, in particular by allowing the spreading of wax of different compositions, possibly at different temperatures, while remaining easy to set up artwork.
- the structure must however remain simple so that the operation is always reliable over time, and to keep production and assembly costs at reasonable levels.
- This setting first spreads a layer of wax in thicknesses different depending on the area concerned: it is preferably thicker in areas where the skin is flexible such as the armpits or the bikini line, and more thin in areas where the skin is firmer such as on the legs.
- an increase in the section of outlet gaps allows working with liquid wax at a temperature a little lower than usual.
- An adjustment of the outlet section allows also to consider working with waxes of different compositions, better adapted to such or such other part of the body, but not having a same viscosity or same surface tension coefficient either with the coating of the rotating part either with the bristles.
- This setting also allows to consider, for the same wax, to change rotating part for another of different coating, or having grooves, also optimized in depending on the part of the body to be treated.
- the adjustment of the section of the wax outlet interstices between the roller and the longitudinal walls of the mouthpiece is achieved by an adjustment the height of the roll relative to the fixed geometry of the walls longitudinal of the mouth, the circular lateral faces of the remaining roll in frictional contact with the side walls of the mouth.
- This mechanism adjustment proves to be particularly simple to carry out because one does not move only one internal part.
- the longitudinal walls of the mouth are substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the applicator, and the height of the axis of the roller is at least level with the outer end of the walls, or even settled beyond. So the variations in width of the outlet gap per unit displacement of the roller depends mainly on the diameter of the roller.
- the longitudinal walls of the mouth are tapered relative to the longitudinal axis of the applicator.
- the variations of width of the gap per unit of displacement in height of the roller can even better be mastered and refined to the extent that they depend then the diameter of the roller and the slope of the walls.
- the conical longitudinal walls of the mouth are oriented towards the outside of the applicator. So, a rise in the roller implies an enlargement of the width of the gap. In addition, the roller appears more prominent and can go better in body cavities. Finally, the journey from the wax on the roller is slightly longer.
- the conical longitudinal walls of the mouth are oriented towards the inside of the applicator. So a rise in the roller tends towards a reduction in the width of the gap, or even until a total closure mouthpiece, which can be temporarily useful if you have to maintain the applicator bent even though it is no longer used. The path of the wax on the roller is then a little shorter.
- the means for adjusting the height of the roller include a movable slide inside the mouth of the tank parallel to the longitudinal axis of the applicator, this slide supporting the movable roller in rotation, and having one or more projections elastic external, each penetrating into a notch of a sparse series in the wall in correspondence of the mouth, or vice versa: the projections elastic belonging to the walls.
- the means for adjusting the height of the roller include two grooves made opposite in each of side walls of the mouth and this parallel to the longitudinal axis of the applicator, these grooves receiving the ends of the axis, or trunnions, of the roller; as well as a pair of identical lateral arms secured by a cross member and movable in rotation at one of their ends, each arm being adjacent to a groove, and engaging through an oblique opening formed in their other end a matching roller journal. So in tilting the pair of arms to one side or the other, the roller is forced to go up or descend quickly from one end to the other of the grooves where it is thereafter maintained.
- the grooves receiving the trunnions of the roller are partially duplicated in a movable intermediate slide inside the mouth of the reservoir parallel to the longitudinal axis of the applicator, this slide supporting the rotating mobile roller.
- This intermediate slide allows to release the roller for access to the tank at the end of filling.
- the arms can then be inside or outside the slide.
- this adjustment of the section of the wax outlet interstices allows you to adjust the applicator as you would otherwise adjust a photograph to the sensitivity of a film intended for this or that other circumstance.
- the hot melt applicator illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 is normally intended for the application of depilatory wax, and includes a housing 1 made for example of a plastic material, this housing having a shape general elongated.
- the cross section of this box can be any, for example circular, and constitutes a gripping means capable of allow the user to enter it manually.
- a tank 2 made of a good material conductor of heat such as aluminum, and intended to ensure storage of the hot-melt product to be applied.
- This reservoir 2 extends substantially over the entire central part of the housing 1 along the longitudinal axis, and has a bottom 2a and an upper opening 2b.
- This tank is provided in its area central of a heat diffusion fin 3 extending in the volume internal of the tank from the bottom 2a.
- the reservoir is in thermal relation with heating means 4, constituted for example an electrical resistance or a PTC surrounding at least partially the tank or, as illustrated, mounted integral with a wall.
- the heating means 4 are conventionally associated with means for thermal regulation such as a thermostat 6a and a fuse 6.
- the applicator is provided with an electric power control indicator 7 visible from the outside through a window made through the wall of the housing.
- the entire electrical device, including electrical connections and power cord locking means (not shown), are mounted on a support flange 8 housed in the lower part of the housing, under the bottom 2a of the tank.
- the upper zone of the housing 1 is constituted by a head 11, for example, screwed on the upper part of the tank which it comes to overcome with its opening 2b.
- this head is also made of a material good conductor of heat such as aluminum.
- Upper walls longitudinal 11b and lateral 11c of the head 11 define an envelope geometric of substantially rectangular section constituting the mouth of outlet 20 of tank 2.
- the hot melt applicator also has a roller applicator 15 housed in the mouthpiece 20 with its axis of revolution on the one hand perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the applicator, and on the other hand parallel to the longitudinal walls 11b of the mouth.
- the roller 15 consists, in this case, of a cylindrical core 16 of circular section made of a material which is a good conductor of heat such as aluminum, and is provided on each of its lateral faces with a pin 17. These are made, for example, by cutting in the mass itself of the core, these journals extending along the central longitudinal axis of rotation of the roller 15.
- the core 16 is coated over its entire cylindrical periphery with a coating 18 of overmolded plastic material having good characteristics of attachment with the wax which it must deposit.
- this roller allows the flow of the wax first according to a defined gap 22 between its diametral section and one of the internal faces of the longitudinal walls 11b, then on its periphery.
- the applicator roller is in fact mounted movable in the housing on the one hand between an operating position and applying a film of wax within the mouthpiece 20 and a position clearance from this mouth to allow filling of the tank 2; and on the other hand, between different positions within the mouth to adjust the outlet gap 22 of the wax.
- the applicator roller 15 is integral with a slide 50 movable the along the longitudinal 116 and lateral 11c walls of the head 11 forming the part upper of the housing 1.
- the slide 50 has two legs 51 parallel rigidly connected vis-à-vis by a spacer 52.
- Each leg is provided at its upper end axially aligned holes for passage and support for the pins 17 of the roller 15.
- the holes can in particular serve as bearings for the journals 17.
- Each leg comprises in the central part an elastic tongue 53 of cut blocking in thickness, and ending at its upper end with a projection 54 outward facing.
- Each projection is intended to come to engage, when the slide is in the working position within the mouthpiece, either under the lower edges 26 'of the side walls 11c (lower position of the journal), or in one of the pairs opposite locking notches 26 of a double series parallel formed in the internal faces of the side walls 11c (position high of the journal).
- the roller is then supported by the vertical grooves 24 formed in the side wall.
- the locking tabs 53 have sufficient elasticity to bend towards the inside of the slide 50 when traction is exerted on the roller 15, this deformation of the tabs allowing an exit from the projections 54 outside ledges 26 ′ or notches 26.
- the slide can then be completely taken out of the mouth 20 to fill the tank 2, or replaced in a second position in which the projections fall into other notches 26 from the Serie.
- the edge concomitant with the roller of longitudinal walls 11b is chamfered 28 outwards. So, a modification of the position of the slide 50, its projections 54 having changed retaining notches 26, causes a change in the position of the section diametral of the roller 15 relative to these chamfers 28, which changes in consequently the width of the outlet gap 22.
- the length of the slide is preferably established so that, when the projections 54 are under the flanges 26 ', the section diameter of roller 15 is level with the outer edge of the walls 11b. Then, any displacement of the projections 54 in one of the pairs of notches 26 following gradually opens the gap 22 between these walls 11c and the roller 15, the latter becoming more and more prominent.
- the external edges of the longitudinal walls 11b are slightly folded inwards, encasing the roller. So, a raising the roller from one notch to the other reduces the gap 22, if desired, to close it.
- the slide 50 is provided, at the lower end of each jamb 51, external stops 56 capable of coming to engage against the edges 26 'of the side walls 11c. These stops oppose the extraction totality of the slide when it is in the fully released position outside the mouth for loading hot melt material.
- the applicator of hot-melt product according to the invention works in the manner next.
- the user first extracts the applicator roller 15 in order to clear the access to the tank 2 to ensure its loading with wax depilate through opening 2b.
- the extraction can take place manually or using pliers by grasping this roller by circular lips forming an extra thickness compared to the surface of the side walls.
- This pull on the roller inducing an exit of the projections 54 out of the notches 26 or flanges 26 ′, the user can slide the slide 50 along the walls of the head 11, the pins 17 of the roller sliding out of the grooves 24. This movement is continues until the stops 56 come against the edges 26 '.
- the slide 50 is reinserted into the mouth 20 of the reservoir by reintroducing the pins 17 of the roller 15 in the grooves 24.
- a pressure printed on the roller forces the tabs 53 to close momentarily until the projections 54 hook under the rim 26 ', as illustrated in FIGS. 1.
- the wax After connecting the applicator to a power source, the wax gradually becomes liquid.
- the user then tilts the applicator to bring the roller 15 into contact with the surface to be depilated, then move it translation.
- the liquid wax passes between the legs 51 of the slide, reaches the front part of the roller then the gap 22.
- This gap acts as a calender by limiting the thickness of wax carried by the coating 18 of the roller. This thickness of wax spreads out in the form of a band as and measuring the progress of the applicator along the area of the body to be treated.
- the user If for a given area, the user considers that the thickness of the layer is insufficient, it grips the roller, preferably with pliers, taking into account its temperature, and exerts a traction to blow up the projections 54 in a first pair of notches 26, as illustrated in FIGS. 2.
- the gap 22 having increased, the same applies to the thickness of the deposited layer.
- the width of the gap 22 reaches a value maximum for which it has practically no influence on the thickness of the layer deposited, the viscosity of the hot wax becoming the parameter preponderant.
- large gap widths may prove to be still useful for waxes of different compositions, possibly in combination with different roller coverings.
- the circular lateral faces of the roller 15 can present a series of concentric circles of different colors, ranging from blue on the periphery to bright red in the center. The user then understands that, if she can only see the blue circle, gap 22 is thin and there is no risk overheating of the skin. Conversely, if the user can see the tape red, she understands that the roller has come out in its maximum position with a wide outlet gap, and that she will have to be careful.
- FIGS. 3 and 4 illustrate a variant of a mechanism for adjusting the height of the roller 15 within a slide 50 'engaged in a head 11 by protrusions at the end of tabs not shown.
- This 50 'slide is similar to that 50 described above, from which it uses the references for identical parts, except the hole 59 in its upper end crossed by the pin 17 of the roller 15, drilling which, here, is oblong in the direction longitudinal of the applicator.
- This slide is completed inside a cam formed by two arms 61 parallel opposite rigidly connected to each other by a spacer 62, each arm being parallel and adjacent to a leg 51 of the slide 50 '.
- Both lower ends of arms 61 are rotatably mounted on pivots 63 aligned along an axis transverse to the longitudinal axis of the applicator.
- Both upper ends have oblique openings 64 opposite the holes 59, and are also crossed by the pins 17.
- the ends external oblique openings 64 terminate in transverse notches.
- Each arm 61 is provided in the middle of its outer edge with button 65 of grip emerging above the head 11.
- the user grasps the two grip buttons 65 between the thumb and the index finger it can pull them transversely to tilt the cam 61/62 on the other side, as illustrated in figures 3.
- the orifices obliques 64 initially forced the return of the trunnions 17 up to the upper end of the oblong holes 59, and, in a second time, blocked these pins in position when they fall into the notches transverse.
- the roller 15 being in the high position relative to the walls longitudinal 11b, the width of the gap 22 is maximum.
- the invention is in no way strictly limited to the exemplary embodiments described above, but includes many modifications or improvements.
- we can consider other types of vertical movement of the pins for example, using two knobs side maintained respectively in a fixed housing of each wall side of the head, thumb wheel whose central thread is engaged with a rod threaded bearing at its end a roller journal support bearing.
