Definitions
- the invention relates to a liquid-cooled cylinder head for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine according to the preamble of main claim 1.
- a generic cylinder head is known from DE 38 19 655 C1.
- the liquid-cooled cylinder head produced from a casting has a cooling water chamber formed between outer walls, a cylinder head base and a cylinder head cover, in which, among other things, gas exchange channels and chambers for receiving the injection nozzles are arranged. Cooling water is introduced from the crankcase into the cooling water chamber of the cylinder head through cooling water supply bores.
- support struts are arranged between the cylinder head base and the cylinder head cover, which are additionally designed as guide elements for the cooling water flow in order to direct them toward components that are to be cooled in particular.
- a disadvantage of the above-mentioned guide elements is that there is only a slight flow movement of the cooling water in the direction of the cylinder head base, so that the cooling effect at the vulnerable points on the cylinder head base is not sufficient.
- An advantage of the liquid-cooled cylinder head according to the invention is the improved cooling of the cylinder head base in the individual cooling water chamber sections each associated with a combustion chamber.
- the ribs formed on the cylinder head cover form guide elements through which the flow of the cooling water is deflected in the direction of the cylinder head base.
- the cooling water bounces between the intake and exhaust port in the area of the highest combustion chamber temperatures on the cylinder head floor.
- the contact of the cooling water flow to the cylinder head base is improved and thereby increases the heat transfer from the temperature-stressed cylinder head base to the cooling water. Due to the rib, there is a reduction in the flow cross section, which is associated with an increase in the flow velocity at this point and consequently increases the cooling effect at the endangered points on the cylinder head base.
- the embodiment of the invention according to claim 2 leads to uniform cooling of all sections of the cylinder head base on the combustion chamber side and thus to avoid a temperature gradient in the longitudinal direction of the cylinder head, as a result of which the load on the cylinder head is lower in this direction.
- the embodiment of the invention according to claims 4 and 7 allow easy manufacture of the cylinder head. Due to the symmetrical design and the trapezoidal shape of the rib, a simple production of a casting core for the production of the one-piece cylinder housing designed as a housing. This is advantageously supported by the fact that the ribs are evenly spaced apart in the direction of a longitudinal center plane of the combustion chamber. Furthermore, the trapezoidal shape of the rib enables the flow resistance to be optimized.
- the ribs according to claims 5 and 6 advantageously form guide elements which influence the direction of flow of the cooling water by the cooling water flow flowing through the cooling water chamber striking the circumferential surface of the rib in the transverse direction and being deflected specifically in the direction of the cylinder head base.
- a cylinder head 1 for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine consists of a one-piece casting with a cylinder head base 2 and from there up to a cover parting plane 3, for supporting a cylinder head cover, leading longitudinal outer walls 4.5 and front outer walls 6.7.
- the outer walls 4 to 7 enclose a space which is subdivided by a cylinder head cover 8 arranged at a distance from the cylinder head base 2 into a cooling water space 9 and a control space 10 lying above it and extending to the cover parting plane 3.
- the cylinder head base 2 has a combustion chamber 11 configured as a depression for each cylinder, which has two orifices 12, 13 per cylinder and two further openings 14, 15 leading into the combustion chamber 11 of chambers 16, 17 for receiving spark plugs, injection nozzles or the like.
- Valve channels 18, 19 extend from the orifices 12, 13 and penetrate the cooling water chamber 9 up to the longitudinal outer walls 4, 5.
- the valve channel 18 leading away from the mouth opening 12 to the outer wall 4 forms the inlet channel and the valve channel 19 leading away from the mouth opening 13 to the outer wall 5 forms the outlet channel.
- the V-shaped chambers 16, 17 penetrate the cooling water chamber 9 in the direction of the cylinder head cover 8. Cooling water flows into the cooling water chamber 9 through inlet openings 20, 22 arranged in the cylinder head base 2.
- the cooling water flowing in through the inlet opening 20 flows through the cooling water chamber 9 approximately in the direction of a transverse axis 21 of the cylinder head 1.
- the cooling water then flows out through an outlet opening, not shown here, on the side of the inlet channel 18 arranged on the longitudinal outer wall 4 of the cylinder head 1.
- a rib 23 is now formed on the cylinder head cover 8 according to the invention, which protrudes freely hanging in the direction of the cylinder head base 2, essentially transversely to the cooling water flow, into the cooling water chamber 9.
- the cooling water hits the rib 23 and is deflected in a targeted manner in the direction of the cylinder head base 2 into the region which is subjected to high temperatures between the inlet duct 18 and the outlet duct 19. Due to the strong impact of the cooling water on the cylinder head base 2, there is better contact of the flow with the cylinder head base 2 and consequently an increase in the cooling effect.
- the rib 23 narrows the flow cross section, which is associated with an increase in the flow velocity at this point. This results in an overall improved cooling of the individual cylinder head areas achieved and thus in particular in the cooling-critical areas between the channels on the cylinder head base 2.
- the cooling water supply into the cooling water chamber 9 and within it is indicated in FIG. 1 with flow arrows.
- the cooling water chamber 9 is divided into identical cooling water chamber sections 24, which are each assigned to one of the combustion chambers 11.
- Z-shaped supporting walls 25 extend from the cylinder head base 2 to the cylinder head cover 8 between the individual cooling water chamber sections 24 of the cylinders.
- the cylinder head cover 8 extends from the front outer walls 6, 7 over the entire width of the cylinder head 1.
- Each cooling water chamber section 24 is the rib 23 assigned, which is arranged in the cooling water chamber 9 in the direction of a longitudinal center plane 26 of the combustion chamber 11.
- the rib 23 is arranged approximately symmetrically in the center of the extension of the longitudinal center plane 26 of the combustion chamber 11 on the cylinder head cover 8.
- the height 27 of the rib 23 corresponds to at least half the height 28 of the cooling water chamber 9
- the length 29 of the rib 23 corresponds to at least half the length 30 of the cooling water chamber section 24 extending in the direction of the longitudinal central axis 31
- the width 32 of the rib 23 corresponds to at least half the length 33 of the cooling water chamber section 24 extending in the transverse direction 21.
- the rib 23 has a trapezoidal shape, the short edge 34 projecting freely into the cooling water chamber 9, as a result of which a targeted flow guidance of part of the cooling water flow in the direction of the cylinder head base 2 is achieved. This enables improved cooling of partial areas of the cylinder head base 2 without a significant increase in the flow resistance.

Abstract
Description
- Fig. 1
- einen Querschnitt durch einen erfindungsgemäßen Zylinderkopf und
