Abstract

A woven belt tape for a car seat belt system has warp ends (7) which have different lengths per unit of length of the tape. The short warp ends (10) absorb the traction loading acting on the belt without loading the longer warp ends until a first elongation value of the belt has been reached. After this has been reached, the loner warp ends participate in absorbing the traction loading in accordance with the ratio of their length to the length of the short warp ends (10).

Description

The invention relates to a woven webbing for a vehicle occupant restraint system.

In particularly serious accidents, the restraint forces on the belt can become so great that injuries to the vehicle occupant occur. For this reason, vehicle occupant restraint systems are increasingly being provided with force limiting devices which, when a structurally predetermined tensile load in the belt webbing is exceeded, lead to an increase in the length of the force limiting device with energy conversion, as a result of which load peaks in the restraint system can be reduced.

Such force limiting devices can be formed, for example, by stretching devices which can be provided on an end fitting of the belt or on its belt retractor. Due to the plastic deformation occurring when a predetermined tensile load is exceeded, which leads to an increase in the length of the expansion device, the belt force can be limited to a structurally predetermined dimension. The disadvantage of such force limiting devices is that additional construction work necessary for them, in addition to the risk of incorrect assembly.

A force limitation can also be achieved by tearing elements, which are designed on the belt in the manner of a belt loop and gradually release an additional belt length when a predetermined tensile load is exceeded, which likewise allows the tensile load to be limited to a predetermined amount. However, there is a force limitation characteristic of unsatisfactory reproducibility.

The object of the invention is to implement a force limitation with simple means on the belt strap itself, the force limitation characteristic of which can be influenced in terms of design and can be reproduced well.

This object is achieved by means of a woven webbing, which is characterized in that the warp threads are formed with different lengths depending on the length unit of the webbing, namely as short warp threads which, up to a first elongation value of the webbing, the tensile load acting in this without stressing the longer warp threads record, and as longer warp threads, which are involved in absorbing the tensile load acting in the belt band from this elongation value of the belt depending on the ratio of their length to the length of the short warp threads. Such a webbing avoids any additional construction effort for a force limiting device, since when a predetermined tensile load is exceeded, a controlled increase in the length of the webbing can be achieved by stretching the shorter warp threads, as a result of which the tensile load acting in the webbing can be limited to a design dimension. Another advantage of the webbing according to the invention is that the characteristic curve of tensile load over stretching of the webbing can be freely adjusted in a wide range by suitable selection of the length ratios of the warp threads and their dimensioning.

In the preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the longer warp threads are formed by long warp threads of uniform length, which are involved in absorbing the tensile load acting on the belt strap from the first elongation value of the webbing corresponding to the difference in length between the short and long warp threads. The use of warp threads with only two different lengths results in an advantageous compromise between inexpensive manufacture on the one hand and sufficient variation of the characteristic curve from tensile load to elongation of the webbing on the other hand.

Further advantageous embodiments of the invention result from the subclaims.

  • Fig. 1 eine schematische Teilansicht eines erfindungsgemäßen Gurtbandes;
The preferred embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings. In this show:
  • Figure 1 is a schematic partial view of a webbing according to the invention.
  • Fig. 2 is a schematic view of the warp threads of the webbing of Fig. 1 together with two weft threads; and
  • 3 shows a possible course of the curve of tensile load F over expansion δ of the belt strap from FIG. 1.

Bis zum Erreichen dieses ersten Dehnungswertes wird die in dem Gurtband 1 wirkende Zugbelastung weiterhin ausschließlich von den kurzen Kettfäden 10 aufgenommen.FIGS. 1 and 2 schematically show the preferred embodiment of a webbing 1 according to the invention. It consists of interwoven weft threads 5 and warp threads 7 running in the longitudinal direction of the webbing. As can be seen in particular in FIG. 2, half of the warp threads 7 have a greater length than the remaining warp threads. The warp threads 7 thus comprise short warp threads 10 and long warp threads 20. As can also be seen in particular in FIG. 2, the short and the long ones Warp threads 10, 20 arranged alternately. It has proven to be particularly advantageous if the long warp threads 20 are longer by approximately 20% per unit length of the webbing 1 than the short warp threads 10. The belt webbing 1 according to the invention is limited in the following manner in the event of a vehicle accident (see also FIG. 3 ): In a normal use of the webbing 1, the tensile load acting on it is absorbed exclusively by the short warp threads 10. There is essentially no stretching of the webbing 1. Only when a first limit force is reached, which in the case of the curve shown in FIG. 3 is approximately 3 kN, does the belt webbing 1 stretch noticeably. Since the weft threads 5 and the warp threads 7 are made of polyethylene, this occurs when they are reached first limit force a considerable elongation of the webbing 1 up to a first elongation value of approximately 20%, this elongation of the webbing 1 taking place with an essentially constant tensile load on the webbing 1. Until this first elongation value is reached, the tensile load acting in the webbing 1 continues to be absorbed exclusively by the short warp threads 10.

From this first stretch of the webbing 1, which corresponds to the difference in length between the short warp threads 10 and the long warp threads 20, the long warp threads 20 are also involved in absorbing the tensile load F acting in the webbing 1, which limits the stretching of the short ones Warp threads 10 leads. As a result, the curve of tensile load F over elongation δ is changed such that an increase in elongation δ is also associated with an increase in tensile load F. This ensures that the webbing 1 still has sufficient strength even after the first elongation value has been reached if it has to absorb an even higher tensile load. For the use of the webbing 1 according to the invention as a force limiting device in a vehicle occupant restraint system, the design parameters of the webbing 1 are selected such that the first limit force at which the webbing 1 stretches up to the first elongation value takes place, corresponds to the force above which an injury to the vehicle occupant must be feared and from which the force limiting function is to start.
