Abstract

The invention relates to and provides a door (3), for instance a garage door, which has the feature that it comprises at least two panels (6-8) lying one above the other, namely a first panel (7) and a second panel (6); that on each side of the second panel (6) a member support (9) is arranged which carries an endless member (10), and that the first panel (7) is coupled to the endless member (10).
The door hereby occupies little space in the opened position.
Because the panels lie one above the other in their stowed position, a door does not have to extend inward over a great length from the door opening into the area to be closed off, for example the garage.

Description

  • The invention relates to a door according to the preamble of claim 1. Two panels herein move in vertical direction from a closing position into an opened position behind a fixed vertical panel. Such a door can be used to close a service counter.
  • The invention has for its object to provide a door which in its opened position leaves clear a considerable door height.
  • For this purpose the door according to the invention has the characteristic of claim 1.
  • Because the panels lie one above the other in their stowed state, a door does not have to extend inward over a great length from the door opening into the area to be closed off, for example the garage.
  • Further advantages, objectives and structural details of the door according to the invention will be elucidated in the following description with reference to drawings, in which:
    • Figure 1 shows a perspective broken away view of a door according to the invention in the closed situation;
    • Figures 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D show in side views the position of door elements during opening of the door of figure 1;
    • Figure 3 shows in side view the position of the door elements of the door of figure 1 in opened door position;
    • Figures 4, 5 and 6 show broken away perspective views of details IV, V and VI respectively of figure 2;
    • Figure 7 shows the detail VI in a different position; and
    • Figures 8 and 9 show schematic side views of another door according to the invention respectively in closed and slightly opened position.
  • A door 3 according to the invention is proposed for closing a door opening 1 of a building 2. The door 3 comprises on both sides of the opening 1 an S-shaped vertical frame profile 4 which is welded or riveted to an L-shaped frame section 5. The door 3 comprises a first panel 7, a second panel 6 and a third panel 8 which are arranged mutually connected in the enumerated sequence from top to bottom. On both sides of the second panel 6 is fixed a member support 9 for supporting and guiding an endless member 10 formed by a belt 11, the ends 12 of which are mutually connected by means of a coupling piece 13. The member support 9 is a tubular profile having on either side guide paths 14 for guiding rollers 15 of two guide members 16 which each carry protruding ridges 17 to which a link 18 is pivotally fixed. The guide members 16 are incorporated in the endless belt 11. Link 18 is fixedly attached to a side profile 19 and 20 respectively of the third panel 8 and the first panel 7. The belt 11 is mounted for rotation round a guide roller 21 on both ends of the member support 9. The guide paths 14 are semi-circular at the ends of the member support 9. Each member support 9 has on its bottom end a guide roller 22 for guiding thereof in a frame profile 4. The endless member 10 further also carries a ridge 23 which is fixed thereto and which in the closed door position engages in a cavity of an engaging means 25 which is fixedly attached to the frame section 5 (figure 5). The bottom ends of the side profiles 19 and 20 likewise have a guide roller 22 which is guided vertically in a frame profile 4. The side profiles 20 of the first panel 7 each have on their upper end a guide roller 26 which is guided horizontally by means of a horizontal guide profile 27 that is supported relative to a frame profile 4 by means of a brace 28. Each panel 6, 7, 8 consists of profile-like skin plate 29, preferably with the configuration shown in the drawings, while the core 30 consists of a plate of foam plastic.
  • Figure 6 shows how the skin plate 29 is U-shaped on the lower edge 31 of the panels 6, 7, 8 while the upper edges 32 have a protruding form which engages close-fittingly into the U-shaped lower edge. On the front and rear sides lower edge profile pieces 33 therein engage in recessed profile pieces 34 of the upper edge 32 (figure 6). In the closed position a hook 35 of a lock 36 arranged in the second panel 6 engages in a recess 37 of the upper edge 32 of the third panel 8.
  • In order to guide the member support 9 relative to the side profiles 19 and 20 during the opening and closing movement of the door 3, the member support 9 carries guide rollers 40 which are guidingly received in guide channels 41 of the side profiles 19 and 20 respectively.
  • At the horizontal joints 42 between the panels 6, 7 and 8 rubber flaps 43 are fixed on the inside to one of the panels to prevent people trapping their fingers in these joints. On the outside the joints fit so closely together that the fingers cannot be inserted therein.
  • The lifting weight of the door 3 is compensated in one manner or other, for example by means of spring means which are accommodated in a drum 50 and fixed to the second panel 6 at fixing member 52 via pulleys 51.
  • The operation of the door 3 is as follows:
       From its closed position of figures 1 and 2a the second panel 6 is raised with a handle 53 as according to the arrow 54, after the lock 36 has of course been released. The endless member 10 herein remains fixedly coupled for the moment to the fixed engaging means 25 in all the figures 2a-2d. This results in the member support 9 moving upward relative to the endless member 10 together with the second panel 6 fixed thereto. The links 18 herein provide a displacement of the side profiles 19 and 20 of the bottom and top profiles 8 and 7 respectively relative to the member support 9, as is shown in figures 2a-2d. The panels 6, 7 and 8 thereby separate and nestle together one above the other. The first panel 7 is meanwhile guided at its upper edge first upwards and then away from the door opening 1. Hereby avoided is that in the closed door position the first panel 7 can be pressed inward at its top from outside. When the ridge 23 finally comes out of the cavity 24 of the fixed engaging means 25, the member support 9 with second panel 6 and endless member 10 goes upward and the three panels 6, 7 and 8 come to lie horizontally one above the other as shown in figure 3. During closing the movement takes place in the reverse direction of movement, wherein the panels 6, 7 and 8 are pulled downward on handle 60. It is noted that the length of the member support 9 and the side profiles 19 and 20 is not as great as the associated panels 6, 8, 7 respectively. Rubber sealing edges 61 are arranged on the top and side edges of the door opening 1.
  • The door 3 according to the invention is constructed such that during opening and closing no, or practically no, panel pieces protrude outward.
  • The door 3 can optionally be provided with a motor drive. Herein the second panel 6 is then for instance pulled upward by a motor driven pulling element.
  • The frame construction is preferably fixed to the building structure and the pre-assembled door is then suspended therein.
  • The door 1 of figures 8 and 9 operates in principle according to the same principle as door 1 of figures 1-7, with the understanding that door 1 of figures 8 and 9 has only a first panel 7 and a second panel 6 located thereunder. These panels 6 and 7 are then so large that together they cover the whole door height.
  • The operation of these panels 6 and 7 is identical to that of the door of figures 1-7 so that further elucidation is superfluous.
  • Reference is further made to the drawings for the technical information relating to both doors.
