In einem weit verbreiteten Verpackungsverfahren wird daher zunächst jeweils ein Innenstirndeckel an die beiden Stirnseiten der Rolle angelegt. Dieser Innenstirndeckel muß passend zum Durchmesser der Rolle gewählt werden, d.h. sein Durchmesser muß etwas kleiner sein als der Durchmesser der Rolle. Danach wird die Umfangsfläche der Rolle mit einer Verpackungsbahn eingehüllt, beispielsweise aus Packpapier, und zwar mit einem axialen Überstand. Der axiale Überstand wird auf die Stirnseiten bzw. die dort befindlichen Innenstirndeckel eingefaltet. Danach wird ein Außenstirndeckel auf den eingefalteten Überstand aufgeklebt. Auch der Außenstirndeckel muß passend zum Durchmesser der Rolle gewählt werden. Ein weiterer Nachteil bei dieser Verpackung ist, daß der Innenstirndeckel irgendwie an der Stirnseite der Rolle festgehalten werden muß, solange er noch nicht von dem eingefalteten axialen Überstand der Verpackungsbahn gehalten wird. Zu diesem Zweck ist es üblich, in den hohlen Kern der Rolle einen Stopfen einzuschlagen und den Innenstirndeckel an diesem Stopfen festzunageln. Dies bereitet aber bei der Entsorgung der Verpackung Probleme, weil der Stopfen normalerweise aus einem anderen Material als die Verpackung, d.h. die Verpackungsbahn und die Stirndeckel, besteht. Eine Wiederverwendung ist aber vielfach auch ausgeschlossen, weil der Stopfen beim Auspacken oft beschädigt wird.In a widespread packaging process, an inner end cover is therefore first placed on the two end faces of the roll. Diese ist so groß, daß sie auch bei der größten zu verpackenden Materialbahnrolle allseits radial über die Rolle übersteht. Nach dem Anlegen des Stirndeckels an die Stirnseite der Rolle wird ein topfförmiger Anlegekopf axial über die Rolle geschoben. Der Anlegekopf weist einen aufblasbaren Wulst auf, der anschließend mit Druckluft versorgt wird. Durch das Aufblasen dieses Wulstes wird der Stirndeckel fest an den Umfang der Rolle gepreßt und haftet dort an einem zuvor aufgebrachten Klebeband an. Hierdurch wird das Rollverhalten der Rolle verbessert, was sich bei der Handhabung und beim Transport als vorteilhaft erweist. Die Befestigung des auf dem Umfang eingefalteten Randes des Stirndeckels erfolgt mit einer größeren Sicherheit.   3. Method according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterised in that the cuts are directed the inside to the outside relative to the end disc.

  16. Device according to one of claims 9 to 15, characterised by an end disc holding means (6) which is arranged upstream of the end face (7) of the roll (2) and holds the end disc (7) substantially in the region of its circumferential edge.
  17. Device according to claim 16, characterised in that the end disc holding means (6) has a suction means (9) operated by negative pressure.
  18. Device according to claim 16 or claim 17, characterised in that the end disc holding means (6) has an adhesion-promoting means, in particular in the form of a heating surface.
  19. Device according to one of claims 9 to 18, characterised in that the applicator head (4) has a pressure means (16) acting on the circumference of the roll, extending axially at least to the tip (28) of the cutting knives (15) or projecting beyond the latter.
