Definitions
- the present invention relates to an applicator for applying a product liquid such as nail polish, liquid lipstick, foundation liquid or hair dye, as well as a make-up set with a such applicator.
- a makeup set includes a reservoir for the product to be applied and an application member of said product comprising an application member consisting of bristles arranged substantially parallel to each other others in tuft, and fixed on a support called an applicator rod.
- This applicator is, in principle, a paintbrush.
- This set further includes a sleeve for to close the reservoir, the flexible rod of the applicator in this sleeve being fixed so that the tuft is immersed in this product.
- Such a set is in particular described in patents US-A-2296139 and FR-E-85853.
- the brushes proposed so far for the application of a layer of varnish on the nails leaves something to be desired as regards the homogeneity and the smoothness of application, the speed of make-up, in particular the homogeneity and the speed of application a varnish on the nails, which is not satisfactory from a point of view aesthetic.
- a classic nail polish brush it's quite common, to deposit a layer of non-homogeneous varnish, marked with streaks originating brush bristles. This effect is all the more pronounced when depositing a second layer of varnish on the nails, and that the first is not completely dry.
- the present invention aims, in particular, to provide a makeup applicator which allows for quick make-up, while conveying a lot more product than a conventional brush. So this applicator has more autonomy and allows depositing a greater layer thickness than a conventional brush, which results in greater ease of application for the user.
- the Applicant has found that by adjusting the flexibility of the stem of such an applicator, it was possible, surprisingly, to obtain the application a more homogeneous layer of makeup product, especially when it is an applicator intended for the application of a nail varnish. In addition, for the deposit of a second layer of varnish, it is not necessary to wait for drying full of the first.
- the Applicant has found that by adjusting the flexibility of the stem of an applicator, you could get a much more even layer of varnish on the nail with a rigid rod applicator, without streaking in the layer of varnish deposited on the nail. In this case, it was found that the applicator pulls the product by capillarity on the surface of the nail. In a way, the organ of application "floats" the layer of varnish deposited, without scratching and without streak formation. In addition, it even eliminates all types of streaks, and a second layer can be applied just after spreading the first layer without wait for it to dry, which shortens the overall application time. Likewise, the Applicant has found that a more flexible application device can be used stiff than that conventionally used, which allows the use of viscosity outside the range usually used.
- the invention relates to an applicator for the application of a product of make-up, comprising a flexible application member having a determined flexibility, attached to one end of a rod, characterized in that the rod has a flexibility close to that of the applicator member such as the force F to be applied to bend the rod is in the range: 0.3f ⁇ F ⁇ 3f, f being the force necessary for bending the applicator member, the rod having a determined section (S) and comprising, in its middle part, at least one weakest zone section (s) such that S / s is between 2 and 100.
- S determined section
- s weakest zone section
- flexibility adjoining the applicator member is meant flexibility such as when applying the product to a surface, for example a varnish on a nail, the applicator member and the flexible part of the rod bend with an almost constant curvature, especially in an arc.
- This flexibility of the rod is chosen, in particular, so that the force F to be applied to bend the rod, is in the range: 0.3f ⁇ F ⁇ 3f, f being the force necessary to bend the applicator member.
- a flexibility of the rod at most equal to that of the applicator member.
- the rod has a length advantageously chosen from the range ranging from 2 to 20 cm, preferably 2 to 4 cm, and it has a diameter included in the range of 2.5 to 5.0 mm, preferably 2.5 to 3.5 mm.
- the flexible rod is made of an elastomeric material.
- this material is chosen from the group of polyethylene, polyurethane and polyester elastomers; polyether block amides; polyvinyls; teropolymers of ethylene, propylene and a diene (EPDM); block styrene-butadiene polymers (SEBS-SIS).
- the elastomeric material has a hardness in the range from 35 to 90 Shore A, preferably from 50 to 70 Shore A.
- the flexible rod may include at least one zone of smaller section; this small section is, for example, in the range from 0.2 to 1.8 mm 2 , preferably from 0.4 to 1.2 mm 2 , over a length ranging from 2 to 20 mm, for a maximum section ranging from 4 to 20 mm 2 , and preferably from 6 to 12 mm 2 . Otherwise, the small section is a section chosen so that the S / s ratio is between 2 and 100, s being the smallest and S the most important section.
- the flexible rod is produced, at least in part, of a metallic wire, for example of steel wire of piano string, the diameter is chosen, for example, in the range from 0.15 to 1.0 mm, from preferably 0.15 to 0.3 mm, and the length of which is advantageously included, in the range of 0.5 to 8 cm, preferably 1 to 4 cm.
- At least one region of the rod is constituted by a helical spring formed by contiguous turns or not.
- the rod can be made of a material relatively hard, such as high or low density polyethylene (HDPE or LDPE), the hardness of which is chosen from the range of 90 Shore A to 40 Shore D, and preferably from 90 to 95 Shore A.
- HDPE or LDPE high or low density polyethylene
- the rod when it is cylindrical, is provided, in particular, with at least one flexible zone of lower section; this small section has, for example, the dimensions given above.

- the hairs can be, if appropriate, of natural origin.
- the application member can be constituted by an elongated loop, a tuft of fibers or large hairs, an application spatula flattened or shaped like open cell foam.
- This organ application can be provided on its surface with a flocking.

- the bristles have a first end obtained by bending a fiber into a U, the base of the U being held in place by a staple inserted into a housing made in the free end of the rod the applicator.
- this housing has the shape of a cylinder of revolution. We can also consider conforming it in oval form elongated, cruciform or in the shape of a half-round tile. This accommodation can be flared towards the free end of the rod. Fixing the tuft of hairs in the housing of the applicator rod, can also be carried out by gluing or by any other means normally used for the manufacture of brushes, by example with a ferrule.
- the bristles may have sections whose shape is chosen in the group of circular, annular, polygonal, cruciform shapes, rectangular, poly-lobed, U-shaped, C-shaped, or V-shaped, or with at least one capillary groove.
