Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for treating residues according to the preamble of claim 1 and an installation for carrying out the method. It is a treatment in particular of special waste such as paint sludge, metal hydroxide sludge, waste containing asbestos, filter dust, electronic waste or contaminated soils.
- the thermal treatment mentioned in the preamble is pyrolysis (if there is a lack of oxygen), combustion (if there is an excess of oxygen) or partly pyrolysis or partly combustion.
- residues are in solid form or in a pasty form with a typical water content between 10 and 60 percent by weight. They contain inorganic constituents, in particular heavy metals or heavy metal compounds, and organic constituents (typical proportions 10-60% by weight), which change into gaseous, partly combustible compounds during the thermal treatment.
- the thermal treatment is usually carried out at temperatures (600-900 ° C.) which is below the melting point of the mixture formed from the inorganic constituents.
- the residues must be fed into the first process stage, in which continuous thermal treatment takes place, with a metering device.
- the first stage also includes heating the residues and evaporating the water contained in the residues.
- the residue products to be produced which only contain inorganic constituents, must be brought into a disposable form.
- salts such as sulfites or sulfides and heavy metals must either be immobilized or separated.
- Heavy metals which are the main problem, can be integrated into solids (mineralization, glazing). However, they can also be separated and then processed into valuable materials.
- a method is known from EP-A 0 465 406 in which a degassing process (pyrolysis) and a melting process (mineralization) are combined.
- a degassing process pyrolysis
- a melting process mineralization
- the intermediate products formed during degassing are often unsuitable for mineralization.
- the intermediate products are contaminated by coke, so that the heavy metals cannot be brought into an inert, solid final state.
- the solids are often in a very fine, difficult to handle form (particle size ⁇ 20 ⁇ m).
- the fine particles enter the gas phase as aerosols, they can only be removed from the gas phase with considerable effort. In such a case, moreover, the residue has such a high specific surface that the heavy metals present can be eluted very easily.
- This object can be achieved by the features mentioned in the characterizing part of claim 1. Prilling of the residues to be treated during the thermal treatment, which is preferably carried out in one fluidized bed or also in several fluidized beds, results in suspendable residue particles.
- the first process stage comprising the thermal treatment is to be designed in such a way that the average grain size of the prill-shaped residue particles is as far as possible between 0.1 and 1 mm.
- the particles are brought into contact with oxidizing and / or reducing gases in order to carry out secondary reactions.
- oxidizing and / or reducing gases for example, with air or oxygen, coke can be removed from the solid phase by oxidation.
- reducing gases e.g. hydrogen
- harmful heavy metal compounds such as Ni oxides or Cr (VI) compounds can be converted into harmless compounds.
- a separate transition area between the gas spaces of the first and second stage can be produced by a gas supply, in particular the supply of an inert gas.
- the thermal treatment can also be carried out in a rotary kiln or in a heated screw.
- the fluidized bed reactor can also be designed as a cascade of several fluidized beds arranged in series.
- the borders between adjacent fluidized beds can be formed by weirs.
- the fluidized beds can be connected via dip tubes, it being possible for the second stage of the method according to the invention to be carried out in these dip tubes.
- the gases released during the thermal treatment can be burned in such a way that the heat of combustion released can be used for the thermal treatment.
- Some of the flue gases generated during combustion are preferably returned to the first stage and used there as fluidizing gas for the fluidized bed.
- Heated air can also be used as the fluidizing gas.
- compressed air can be used as the propellant gas in an injector, in which recirculated flue gas is compressed to the pressure required for a fluidizing gas.
- the oxygen entrained in the air results in an at least partial combustion of the oxidizable gases in the fluidized bed, as a result of which process heat required for the thermal treatment is generated in the fluidized bed itself.
- Post-combustion of the first stage exhaust gases is necessary if combustible gases are present and carbon monoxide has to be oxidized to carbon dioxide. Afterburning should also destroy dioxins and furans.
- the gases are separated from the residue particles before entering the second stage and fed to an afterburning.
- the Gas / solid separation can be carried out using a cyclone.
- the combustion takes place in the second stage, whereby the residue particles can melt.
- This vessel can be designed as a heatable crucible (melting furnace), and the melting of the residue products takes place in this crucible as a third process stage.
- Heavy metals that change into the gas phase in the crucible are prevented from escaping from the crucible by the inflowing residue particles. Because due to a lower temperature of the particles, gaseous heavy metals are condensed or desublimated on the particle surfaces. The heavy metals trapped in this way are returned to the crucible, which means that only small amounts of heavy metals can leave the system via the flue gas path.
- the method according to variant 1 is therefore characterized in that secondary flue gas cleaning is unnecessary or any effort for this purpose is low. Heavy metals leave the plant in an immobilized form at the end of the solid path and not at the end of the flue gas path as a product of a flue gas scrub in a non-immobilized form.
- the collecting vessel mentioned does not have to be designed as a melting furnace.
- a relatively large crucible connects to the downpipe.
- the oxidizable gases are burned in the downpipe and / or in the crucible.
- the residue products are melted.
- an auxiliary burner must be provided on the crucible.
- a relatively large space must be provided for the gas phase so that a required dwell time of 1 to 2 seconds can be maintained. During this dwell time, organic poisons such as dioxins and furans are thermally destroyed.
- the auxiliary burner mentioned can also be used to start up the system.
- the method according to the invention comprises a first stage, to which reference number 1 is assigned, and a second and optionally third stage, which are combined with reference number 2.
- A denotes the residues to be treated.
- B stands for the medium, for example air, with which the thermal treatment in a fluidized bed reactor 10 is driven.
- C are the gaseous reactants used in the second stage.
- D is the flue gas generated when the oxidizable gases are burned.
- E denotes the residue product that can be disposed of in solid form.
- the arrows a, b, c, d and e indicate the transport of the corresponding substances A, B, C, D and E, respectively.
- the residues A are fed to the continuous treatment in the fluidized bed reactor 10 by means of a metering and conveying device 11 (arrow a ').
- This device is, for example, a dosing screw.
- the hot fluidized bed the solid or pasty residues A are heated up, existing water is evaporated and organic constituents are gasified.
- the residues A at least partially change into a granular particle shape (prill-shaped residue particles) which enables the particles to be fluidized or suspended.
- the connection p represents the transport route of the residue particles to the second stage. If a part of the residue A cannot be prilled, a separate path q must be provided for this part.
- the process heat required for the pyrolysis is advantageously supplied with the fluidizing gases - arrow f -.
- the necessary gas heating and pressure increase takes place in the plant part 12.
- the pressure increase of recirculated flue gas D - connection d '- can be produced by means of an injector and compressed air B.
- the prill-shaped residue particles enter a separating device, in particular a cyclone, in which the oxidizable gases are separated from the residue particles.
- the gases flow - arrow g - into a chamber 22, where they are burned.
- the heat of combustion can be used, partly in the process according to the invention itself.
- the residue particles are transported - arrow h - into a down pipe 20, where they react with the gases C flowing in countercurrent.
- the residue particles - arrow i - then arrive in a collecting container 29.
- This collecting container can be a melting furnace 30 in which the particles are melted for mineralization.
- the prill-shaped residue particles (arrow p) together with the gaseous products enter the downpipe 25, where they are mixed with the gaseous reactants C and in cocurrent into the crucible 30 - arrow p ' - enter.
- the oxidizable gases are burned in the downpipe 25 and / or in the crucible 30.
- With an auxiliary burner 27, the heat required for melting can be fed into the crucible 30, if necessary.
- the flue gases D are drawn off via a first outlet opening (arrow d).
- two further outlet openings (arrows e 'and e'') are provided on the crucible 30.
- E 'de notes the metallic product which has to be sent for further processing

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for treating residues according to the preamble of claim 1 and an installation for carrying out the method. It is a treatment in particular of special waste such as paint sludge, metal hydroxide sludge, waste containing asbestos, filter dust, electronic waste or contaminated soils. The thermal treatment mentioned in the preamble is pyrolysis (if there is a lack of oxygen), combustion (if there is an excess of oxygen) or partly pyrolysis or partly combustion.
The residues, referred to briefly as residues or residues, are in solid form or in a pasty form with a typical water content between 10 and 60 percent by weight. They contain inorganic constituents, in particular heavy metals or heavy metal compounds, and organic constituents (typical proportions 10-60% by weight), which change into gaseous, partly combustible compounds during the thermal treatment. The thermal treatment (or degassing) is usually carried out at temperatures (600-900 ° C.) which is below the melting point of the mixture formed from the inorganic constituents.
The residues must be fed into the first process stage, in which continuous thermal treatment takes place, with a metering device. The first stage also includes heating the residues and evaporating the water contained in the residues.
The residue products to be produced, which only contain inorganic constituents, must be brought into a disposable form. To do this, salts such as sulfites or sulfides and heavy metals must either be immobilized or separated. Heavy metals, which are the main problem, can be integrated into solids (mineralization, glazing). However, they can also be separated and then processed into valuable materials.
A method is known from EP-
For example, if the fine particles enter the gas phase as aerosols, they can only be removed from the gas phase with considerable effort. In such a case, moreover, the residue has such a high specific surface that the heavy metals present can be eluted very easily.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a method in which the intermediate products, ie the products of the first thermal treatment stage, are produced in a form or can be brought into a form in which heavy metals are also immobilized in problem cases can. This object can be achieved by the features mentioned in the characterizing part of claim 1. Prilling of the residues to be treated during the thermal treatment, which is preferably carried out in one fluidized bed or also in several fluidized beds, results in suspendable residue particles. The first process stage comprising the thermal treatment is to be designed in such a way that the average grain size of the prill-shaped residue particles is as far as possible between 0.1 and 1 mm.
Favorable prilling of the residue particles - namely prilling that leads to a low fines content - can be obtained if the substances to be treated are introduced into the fluidized bed at a distance below the fluidized bed level.
In a second process stage, for example in a downpipe, the particles are brought into contact with oxidizing and / or reducing gases in order to carry out secondary reactions. For example, with air or oxygen, coke can be removed from the solid phase by oxidation. On the other hand, reducing gases (e.g. hydrogen) can cause harmful heavy metal compounds such as Ni oxides or Cr (VI) compounds can be converted into harmless compounds.
A separate transition area between the gas spaces of the first and second stage can be produced by a gas supply, in particular the supply of an inert gas.
Instead of in a fluidized bed reactor, the thermal treatment can also be carried out in a rotary kiln or in a heated screw.
The fluidized bed reactor can also be designed as a cascade of several fluidized beds arranged in series. The borders between adjacent fluidized beds can be formed by weirs. In another embodiment, the fluidized beds can be connected via dip tubes, it being possible for the second stage of the method according to the invention to be carried out in these dip tubes.
The gases released during the thermal treatment can be burned in such a way that the heat of combustion released can be used for the thermal treatment. Some of the flue gases generated during combustion are preferably returned to the first stage and used there as fluidizing gas for the fluidized bed.
Heated air can also be used as the fluidizing gas. In addition, compressed air can be used as the propellant gas in an injector, in which recirculated flue gas is compressed to the pressure required for a fluidizing gas. The oxygen entrained in the air results in an at least partial combustion of the oxidizable gases in the fluidized bed, as a result of which process heat required for the thermal treatment is generated in the fluidized bed itself.
Post-combustion of the first stage exhaust gases is necessary if combustible gases are present and carbon monoxide has to be oxidized to carbon dioxide. Afterburning should also destroy dioxins and furans.
In a first embodiment variant of the method according to the invention, the gases are separated from the residue particles before entering the second stage and fed to an afterburning. The Gas / solid separation can be carried out using a cyclone. In a second variant, the combustion takes place in the second stage, whereby the residue particles can melt.
If the second stage of the process is carried out in a downpipe, the gaseous reactants in variant 1 move in countercurrent to the falling residue particles. In
After passing through the second stage, the residue particles enter a collecting vessel. This vessel can be designed as a heatable crucible (melting furnace), and the melting of the residue products takes place in this crucible as a third process stage.
Heavy metals that change into the gas phase in the crucible are prevented from escaping from the crucible by the inflowing residue particles. Because due to a lower temperature of the particles, gaseous heavy metals are condensed or desublimated on the particle surfaces. The heavy metals trapped in this way are returned to the crucible, which means that only small amounts of heavy metals can leave the system via the flue gas path.
The method according to variant 1 is therefore characterized in that secondary flue gas cleaning is unnecessary or any effort for this purpose is low. Heavy metals leave the plant in an immobilized form at the end of the solid path and not at the end of the flue gas path as a product of a flue gas scrub in a non-immobilized form.
If the heavy metal fractions are small and / or the heavy metals are bound to the residue particles so well that they cannot be eluted, melting is not necessary and therefore the collecting vessel mentioned does not have to be designed as a melting furnace.
In
The auxiliary burner mentioned can also be used to start up the system.
If there is a large metallic portion in the residues, a layer of molten metal forms on the bottom of the crucible. A layer consisting of a glass melt is superimposed on this layer. It is therefore advantageous if outlet openings are provided through which the two phases can be drawn off separately. A further outlet opening is provided on the crucible for the flue gases.
