Description

The present invention relates to a cable comprising individually insulated conductors and at least one sheath surrounding them, which is easily stripped without requiring the use of a special stripping tool.

The document FR-A-2 645 358 describes an electrical cable, which comprises individually insulated conductors and a sheath directly surrounding them and may further comprise possible drains, between the insulated conductors and the sheath. This cable can be stripped using a special cutter to avoid injuring the conductors. To this end, the sheath has two pairs of ribs delimiting four longitudinal grooves facing two by two in two parallel cutting planes, each of these planes cutting the inner surface of the sheath but remaining outside the conductors and possible drains. Each rib is attached to one of the ribs, thus directly delimited and defined. The sheath provided with its two pairs of ribs and grooves is of section inscribed in a square.

The suitable pliers for stripping this cable has two articulated jaws received in the grooves of the same torque and actuated to cut the sheath according to the aforementioned cutting plane. It allows with the pairs of ribs and grooves defined on the sheath to minimize the risk of injury to the conductors.

Document GB-A-1 371 211 discloses an easily unsheathable electric cable. This cable comprises two individually insulated electrical conductors arranged parallel side by side and a continuous insulating sheath surrounding the conductors. This sheath defines a single housing containing the conductors and has two opposite tubular portions which are half-opened vis-à-vis and directly connected to each other. It firmly surrounds the conductors but does not adhere very strongly to them and thus makes the cable easy to draw.

The document US-A-4 755 629 describes a cable for transmitting high frequency signals, which comprises in particular:
  • two pairs of individually insulated conductors,
  • an internal and continuous sheath surrounding each pair or an internal insulating and split sheath, having an eight or S shape, surrounding in common the two pairs,
  • a shielding screen, surrounding the two individual internal sheaths or the common internal sheath, and
  • an external protective sheath.

The internal sheaths on the two pairs, respectively, have the advantage of separating the two pairs from each other. On the other hand, they pose the problem of uneasy stripping of this cable.

The common internal sheath in eight has two tubular portions, connected by a junction tab located in the common axial plane of its tubular portions, and two slots located opposite each other. That in S also has two tubular portions, connected by a junction leg at an angle and on either side of their common axial plane, and two slots located on either side of this junction leg.

This type of internal eight or S sheath has the advantage of separating the two pairs from one another to improve the crosstalk between these pairs. The two slots allow the positioning of the two pairs in the internal sheath already produced and therefore also allow the direct removal of the pairs from this sheath by eliminating any particular stripping operation. On the other hand, the positioning of the pairs in this sheath can displace the conductors, but above all the presence of the two slots does not correctly distance the screen from the conductors. This results in an increase in the losses and the attenuation level of the signals transmitted in the cable with split internal sheath, compared to the cable with two internal sheaths. not split having the same thickness as the split inner sheath.

The object of the present invention is to produce a cable which can be easily stripped, in particular in full cable, without any special cutting tool, and the performance of which for transmitting high frequency signals is optimized.

It relates to an easily unsheathed cable, comprising individually insulated electrical conductors assembled in separate assemblies, and at least one continuous insulating sheath surrounding said assemblies and separating them into two groups, characterized in that each sheath has two tubular portions substantially between '' open facing each other along the cable, surrounding said assemblies and separating the two groups, and two substantially parallel tabs of peripheral continuity of the sheath, connecting the two tubular portions, delimiting between them a constriction of width less than the diameter insulated conductors and allowing by rupture of at least one of them the desired opening of said continuous insulating sheath.

This cable advantageously also has at least one of the following additional characteristics:
  • said tongues are substantially contiguous but not fused,
  • said tongues are contiguous and slightly adherent to one another, being separable from one another,
  • the cable has an external groove on at least one of said tongues, constituting a breakthrough on this tongue,
  • the continuous insulating sheath is extruded,
  • the continuous insulating sheath is a single and said external sheath of said cable, or an internal sheath covered with a shielding screen, itself covered with an external sheath.
  • the assemblies made up of insulated conductors are star pairs or quads.

The characteristics and advantages of the present invention will emerge from the description given below with reference to the attached drawings. In these drawings:
  • FIG. 1 represents in section a cable according to the present invention,
  • FIG. 2 is the sectional view of the cable of FIG. 1, illustrating the stripping of this cable,
  • FIG. 3 is a sectional view showing an alternative embodiment of the cable of FIG. 1,
  • FIG. 4 shows in section another alternative embodiment of the easily unsheathable cable according to the present invention, the transmission performance of which is optimized,
  • FIG. 5 is an alternative embodiment given with respect to FIG. 4.

The cable shown in Figure 1 has two pairs 1 and 2, the four conductors 10, 12, 20 and 22, are coated with individual insulation 11, 13, 21 or 23, depending on the conductor considered, and are surrounded by a continuous insulating sheath 3. This sheath 3 directly constitutes the external cable protection sheath.

The sheath 31 has two cylindrical portions 31 and 32, which are slightly half-open facing each other along the cable and joined to one another by forming a constriction 33 on the sheath.

This sheath combines the two pairs 1 and 2 while separating them from one another, each of the pairs being in one of the cylindrical portions 31 and 32 of the sheath 3. This sheath 3 is continuous on its periphery and has for this purpose two connecting tongues 34 and 35, each joining one of the opening edges of one of these portions to one of the opening edges of the other portion and thus delimiting between them the constriction 33.

The tongues 34 and 35 are substantially contiguous one against the other but not fused or are slightly spaced and substantially parallel. The constriction which they delimit along the cable on the sheath is of width less than the diameter of the insulated conductors inside the sheath.

Cette gaine 3 ainsi constituée est extrudée.This sheath 3 thus formed is extruded.

Les conducteurs isolés sont alors dégagés de la gaine et celle-ci sectionnée sur une longueur convenable.FIG. 2 illustrates the stripping of this cable, which is carried out locally as desired on any part of the cable or in the terminal part of the cable. The stripping is carried out by tearing, tearing or cutting the tabs, for the separation of the portions 31 and 32 and the resulting opening of the sheath. This is obtained by traction substantially transverse to the cable on one or the other of the cylindrical portions 31 and 32, as shown diagrammatically by the arrows in solid line F1 and F2, associated with these portions, causing the rupture of the tongues or their tearing off of one of the two portions, or by incision prior to this traction, or by direct cutting of at least one of the tongues as shown diagrammatically by the arrow F in dotted lines. The insulated conductors are then released from the sheath and the latter sectioned over a suitable length.

This sheath, provided for this stripping mode without special tools, avoids any injury to the insulated internal conductors, during the stripping and allows the stripping to be carried out in full cable.

As a variant, as shown in dotted lines in FIG. 1, the sheath 3 further comprises two outer grooves 36 and 37, of shallow depth, provided on the connecting tongues 34 and 35. These grooves constitute initiations of rupture of the tongues . They are substantially opposite to each other and are located in the middle part of the tongues or may be at one of their ends.

In FIG. 3, the cable illustrated comprises four pairs of individually insulated conductors and a continuous insulating sheath surrounding them, and separating them into two groups 1 and 1 ′ each of two pairs. Four of these eight conductors and their individual insulation are designated by the same references as in FIG. 1, namely 10-11, 12-13, 20-21 and 22-23 and the other four and their insulation by the references 14- 15, 16-17, 24-25 and 26-27. The continuous insulating sheath is functionally identical to the cable sheath according to FIG. 1. This sheath and its various parts are simply designated by the references used in correspondence in FIG. 1 and are no longer described. We only specify that the portions 31 and 32, cylindrical in Figure 1, are substantially elliptical in Figure 3. The connecting tabs are substantially parallel to the major aligned axes of the portions 31 and 32, and give a flat configuration to the resulting cable.

The two insulated conductors of each pair can be kept assembled, as shown diagrammatically for the two pairs of the only group 1 'whose conductors are held under a ribbon, such as 18 or 19, depending on the pair, shown in dotted lines. These assembly tapes are made of polyester or the like and may have a metal outer face to form a screen on each pair.

The stripping of the cable according to this figure 3 is done in the same way as that according to figure 1 and is therefore not illustrated nor specified further. The subsequent separation of the conductors of the possible pairs under assembly tape is done by tearing and removal of the assembly tape.

In FIGS. 4 and 5, the cable comprises two groups 1 and 2 of individually insulated conductors, the conductors and their insulation of which are designated by the same references as in FIG. 3. These conductors are assembled in a quarter star, each group being defined directly by a single fourth star. These two groups or two quartes are surrounded by a common and continuous insulating sheath 3, which constitutes an internal sheath of the cable.

This internal sheath 3 has two cylindrical portions 31 and 32, which cover almost the entire periphery of the two quarters and are joined to one another by forming a constriction 33 on the sheath.

This internal sheath 3 groups the two quarters while separating them from each other, each quarter being in one of the cylindrical portions 31 and 32. Two tabs 34 and 35 connect the two edges of one of the cylindrical portions to those opposite the other portion and ensure the peripheral continuity of this internal sheath around the two star quads.

In Figure 4, these tabs are substantially contiguous but not fused. They are parallel and independent of each other so that the two cylindrical portions are slightly half-open opposite one another. The constriction between them is of width less than the diameter of one of the insulated conductors.

In Figure 5, these tabs are contiguous and slightly adherent to each other while remaining easily separable from one another. The constriction between them is of zero width at least in its middle part.

This continuous internal sheath 3 is extruded on the two quads formed. It keeps them side by side by spacing them slightly apart from each other. During the extrusion, it replaces, if necessary, the insulated conductors of each quarter, initially provided as identical as possible to each other, ensuring their slight tightening to each other, so that the conductors are at all points along the cable two to two opposite as rigorously as possible. It then maintains the geometry of the quarters and the side-by-side position of the two separate quarters.

A shielding screen 4 completely surrounds the internal sheath 3 and a screen continuity wire 5 is associated with it. An outer sheath 6 covers the screen and protects the cable.

The screen 4 is constituted by a metallic or metallized sheet, mounted with overlapping of its edges one on the other around the internal sheath. The screen continuity wire is mounted between the screen and the outer sheath. It is positioned in a slight longitudinal fold 4A of the screen, formed in one of its parts between the two cylindrical portions of the internal sheath, and is retained there by the external sheath. This screen is rigid enough for the formation of this slight fold and for the maintenance stretched from its other opposite part between the two cylindrical portions of the internal sheath.

The stripping of the cable according to FIGS. 4 and 5 for access to its conductors is carried out by cutting the outer sheath 6 to the appropriate length, this posing no particular problem or risk for the conductors in the internal sheath and protected by the screen, during the removal of the outer sheath, then releasing the screen and finally by tearing, tearing or cutting the continuity tabs of the internal sheath. One can provide, as illustrated in dotted lines, a longitudinal groove of V section such as 36 or 37 in one and / or the other of the two tabs to facilitate the opening of the internal sheath. The insulated conductors are thus released and the internal sheath or more precisely of its two cylindrical portions are sectioned over a suitable length.

As a variant with respect to these figures, the internal continuous sheath can maintain two pairs side by side and not two quarters, by separating them from one another. Alternatively also the outer sheath can ensure the assembly side by side of the first two quarters or pairs which are grouped in their continuous internal sheath being separated from each other and two second quarters or pairs which are themselves grouped in their own internal sheath continues being separated from each other.

The cable according to FIGS. 4 and 5 has improved performance. It makes it possible to obtain low levels of crosstalk on the order of -60 dB at 20 MHz and -50 dB at 100 MHz as well in each quarter or pair as between the quarters or pairs.

The cables according to the present invention are in particular data and / or telephone transmission cables, used inside buildings. They are generally with a relatively small number of insulated conductors or of assembled assemblies. They allow easy and quick access to their isolated conductors, without risk of injury and without special stripping tool, in particular for their direct connection to equipment, on insulation displacement connections of this equipment. The cables illustrated in the drawings and described above are examples of embodiment of such cables.

These cables can also be mixed cables of which at least one of the two groups then further comprises optical conductors protected individually or globally and in particular in the form of a ribbon.
