Die Umfangsantriebe 17, 18 bestehen im beschriebenen Ausführungsbeispiel aus einer in etwa radial zur Stützwalze 5 elastisch gegen die jeweilige Randrolle 16 andrückbaren, mit einem eigenen Drehantrieb versehenen Walze 19, 20, deren Drehachse parallel zur Achse der Stützwalze 5 verläuft. Als Drehantrieb ist in die Walzen 19, 20 ein sogenannter elektrischer Trommelantrieb integriert, alternativ können die Walzen 19, 20 von anderen Motoren (Elektro-, Hydraulik- oder Pneumatikmotoren) über ein Getriebe (z. B. einen Riementrieb) angetrieben werden. Die Oberfläche der Walzen 19, 20 sind elastisch und weisen Nuten auf, um ein unerwünschtes Einwickeln von Luft zu verhindern. Sie sind am freien Ende von Schwenkarmen 21 , 22 gelagert, die jeweils an einem quer verfahrbaren Schlitten 23, 24 angelenkt sind.
