Description

The invention relates to a chair, in particular an office chair, with an adjustable backrest, a backrest bearing housing for the height adjustment of the backrest being slidably mounted on a backrest support and being gradually lockable in its height position by means of a locking device with a locking element which can be released against spring force.

A chair with the features mentioned above is known for example from DE-OS 22 55 076 or DE-AS 26 33 044.

The invention has for its object to design the height adjustment device for the backrest so that it is structurally simple and designed so that it does not complicate the assembly of a chair acquired in a disassembled state.

The object is achieved with a backrest adjustment device of the type mentioned in accordance with the invention in that the backrest support has two support arms which project upwards at a distance parallel to one another, each are provided with a slot open towards their free upper end, in one longitudinal edge of which engagement recesses are formed for the latching element, that the backrest bearing housing has guideways for both support arms and can be pushed onto the free ends of the support arms, and that the latching element consists of a in the backrest bearing housing there is a manually adjustable locking rod which extends into the slots of both support arms and is spring-loaded against the longitudinal edge of the slots provided with the engagement recesses.

The construction according to the invention allows a pre-assembly of the backrest including its height adjustment device and the attachment of the backrest to the chair frame by simply sliding over the free ends of the two support arms of the backrest support of the chair frame. When this is pushed on, the locking element of the height adjustment device consisting of a rod can also be immersed in the open slots provided on one side with the engagement recesses. The slots of the two support arms can advantageously each have at their upper opening a constriction offset in the same direction from their common center plane, which the locking bar can only pass through when the backrest bearing housing is slid onto the support arms while the handle body is pivoted out visibly. As a result, every layperson can see where the handle body for actuating the height adjustment device is located and how it has to be pivoted when the backrest bearing housing is to be adjusted further downward on the backrest support from the first and uppermost engagement recess of the slots while disengaging the locking bar. Advantageously, the width of the constriction can be smaller than the diameter of the locking rod, so that the locking rod can pass the constriction of the slots only by springing open the slotted support arm ends by applying force. This ensures that the slid onto the backrest support of the chair frame under pressure Backrest bearing housing is not inadvertently pulled off the backrest support of the chair frame even when the locking rod is released by actuating the handle body when the backrest bearing housing is adjusted in height. This is possible, for example, to replace a backrest only with greater effort when the handle body is pivoted, and the constrictions can be constructed so that the force for pulling the backrest must be greater than the force for pushing the backrest onto the backrest support of the chair.

The height adjustment device requires only a few individual parts. The locking bar can expediently be connected to a handle body which is mounted in the backrest bearing housing in the region between the guideways for the two support arms so as to be pivotable about an axis which runs parallel to the locking bar. The handle body can be designed in an elegant and unobtrusive manner as a flush and spring-loaded handle button in the engagement position of the locking rod with an outer wall of the backrest bearing housing. Advantageously, the handle body can be designed as a two-armed swivel body, one arm of which carries the locking bar and the other arm of which forms a handle arm designed as a handle button.

An exemplary embodiment of a backrest bearing housing for an office chair provided with a backrest height adjustment designed according to the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawing.

Zur Höhenverstellung der Rückenlehne 10 sind das Rückenlehnenlagergehäuse 12 und der Rückenlehnenträger 13 besonders gestaltet.1, 4 and 5 show a backrest 10 of an office chair, which is pivotally mounted about a pendulum axis 11 in a backrest bearing housing 12. The backrest bearing housing 12 is mounted on a backrest support 13, which is connected to a chair frame, not shown, and in particular is also pivotably arranged on a seat support of the chair. The backrest bearing housing 12 and the backrest support 13 are specially designed for height adjustment of the backrest 10.

According to FIG. 2, the backrest support 13 consists of two web-like support arms 13a and 13b which run parallel and at a distance from one another. Both support arms 13a, 13b have the same design and, according to FIG. 3, have a slot 14 which is open towards their free upper end. One of the two longitudinal edges of this slot is provided with a plurality of engagement recesses 15.

The free end of the support arms 13a (13b) is designed as an asymmetrical insertion funnel 16, which leads to a narrow point 17 forming the beginning of the slot 14, which is offset from the central plane of the longitudinal slot 14.

According to FIG. 2, guide tracks 18 for the two support arms 13a, 13b are formed in the backrest bearing housing 12, and in the area between the two guide tracks 18 for the support arms a handle body 19 adapted to the cross-sectional shape of the backrest bearing housing can be pivoted about an axis 20 in the housing 12 stored. The handle body 19, which is shown individually in FIG. 3, is provided with a locking rod 21 running parallel to its pivot axis 20, the ends 21.1 of which protrude beyond the handle body 19 into the guideways 18 for the support arms 13a and 13b. The handle body 19 is biased by means of a spring (not shown in the drawing for reasons of clarity) into its inoperative position shown in FIG. 1, in which it is aligned with its outer sides with the outer sides of the backrest bearing housing 12. The grip body 19 can be gripped by a person sitting on the chair with a hand reaching back and pivoted against the force of the spring mentioned about the axis 20 in the direction of the arrow 22 shown in FIG. 3. Since the handle body practically has the shape of a two-armed lever, the other arm of which carries the locking rod 21, the locking rod is also pivoted during this pivoting movement. As can be seen from Fig. 5, the locking rod 21 is pivoted with its ends out of the engagement recesses 15 of the slots 14 of the support arms, so that the backrest bearing housing 12 in the direction of the double arrow 23 shown in Fig. 5 for height adjustment of the backrest 10 downwards or can move above.

In this approach, the free ends of the two support arms 13a, 13b first immerse in the downwardly open guideways 18 of the backrest bearing housing 12, and the latching rod 21, which projects with its ends 21.1 into these guideways 18, reaches the asymmetrical insertion funnel 16 of the support arms 13a, 13b and when pushed further in the direction of arrow 24 into the upper constriction 17 (FIG. 3) of the slots offset from the central plane of the slots 14 of the support arms. The constriction 17 can have a smaller width than the diameter of the locking rod 21, so that the constriction 17 can only be passed by the locking rod 21 by springing open the slotted support arm ends and by appropriate application of force. When passing the laterally offset narrow points 17, the grip body 19 experiences the clear pivoting movement shown in FIG. 4 and recognizable to the chair user to the outside. As soon as the locking bar 21 has passed the constrictions 17, the prestressed handle body 19 pivots back into its rest position and thereby brings the ends of the locking bar into an engagement recess 15. Such a locking position is shown in FIG. 1. The locking rod 21 prevents the backrest bearing housing from moving further down or back up. Only when the handle body 19 according to FIG. 5 is pivoted into its release position in the direction of the arrow 22 does the locking rod 21 disengage from the engagement recesses 15 and allow the height of the housing 12 and thus the backrest 10 to be inadvertently pulled off the backrest from the backrest support 13a / 13b cannot occur here. As can best be seen from FIG. 3, a flat sliding surface to the constriction 17 is missing in the interior of the slot 14, so that to pull off the backrest bearing housing 12 from the backrest support 13a / 13b when the handle body 19 is pivoted out, a considerably greater effort is required to end the locking bar 21.1 to pull out through the constrictions 17 of the slots 14.
