Definitions

  • the invention relates to an end cover made of sheet material with a predetermined stiffness for packaging webs wound on a roll core in the sheet material, at least one dividing line is provided, which together with a base line delimits at least one tongue, which can be folded out of the sheet material around the base line, and a device to put such a front cover on a roll with a feed head that grips a front cover and brings it to bear on the roll.
  • Sheets, for example paper sheets, wound on a roll core are usually packed before transport so that an end cover made of sheet material with a predetermined rigidity is placed on the end faces and then the roll is wrapped with a packaging material, for example wrapping paper.
  • the packaging material protrudes laterally over the roll. The excess is folded over the inner front cover.
  • a further end cover, an outer end cover, can then be applied, which is usually the case is glued to the folded overhang and to the inner front cover.
  • US-A-2 615 564 shows an end-face package for rolls which is formed from a rectangular blank which has a width which is adapted to the diameter of the roll to be packed and a length which is twice the width.
  • a tongue is provided on the narrow sides, which can be pivoted about a bending line, the bending line being at a distance from the narrow side. These tongues are laterally separated from the blank by incisions. In the middle there are additional tongues that are cut out and connected to the blank by bending lines. If the blank is now folded up, you can fold up the tongues in the middle as well as the tongues at the edges. These tongues can then be inserted inside the roll.
  • Such packaging is suitable for rolls that have a diameter of the order of 12.7 cm.
  • US-A-4 004 396 shows a method for packaging rolls formed from wire nets, such as those used for fences.
  • the rolls are wrapped with a shrink film. So that the shrink film on the end faces is not damaged by protruding tips, the end faces are provided with end covers.
  • the end covers each have fold-out tongues that can be inserted between individual layers of the wire roll or in the roll core.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a front cover that can be attached to the roller with sufficient security without a plug in the core.
  • the fold-out tongue can be inserted into the roll core and then holds the front cover firmly on the roll. Although this connection can be released relatively easily, it is sufficient to hold the end cover securely on the end of the roll until the packaging material with its folded overhang takes over the holding function. Since the base line is arranged in the area of the center of the end cover, the tongue largely fixes the position of the end cover in relation to the roll core and thus in relation to the center of the end face of the roll. When packing, the end cover essentially maintains the desired position through this plug-in connection, without additional measures being required. As long as the end cover is not used, for example lying on a stack of supplies, it has a flat shape. The tongue is in the plane of the front cover, ie it is not yet protruding.
  • the tongue is only folded out when the end cover is to be placed on the roll.
  • the previously essentially flat structure of the end cover becomes a spatial structure in which the necessary fastening means are an integral part of the end cover.
  • Additional materials for packaging the roll such as plugs or clips or nails, can be completely omitted. This considerably simplifies the disposal of the packaging material.
  • fewer steps have to be performed when unpacking the roll. There is no longer any risk of injury from nails or staples that may remain in the front cover. Nevertheless, by fixing the end cover to the end of the roll to be packaged, sufficient security is guaranteed when packing the roll. Holding areas remain between the tongue and the surface material of the end cover, in which the tongue and the end cover continue to be connected.
  • each tongue has the same supporting function, i.e. all tongues are loaded evenly.
  • two tongues are provided, the base lines of which run essentially parallel to one another. Since, due to the inherent rigidity of the surface material of the end cover, there is a certain tension in the kink along the base line even after the tongues have been folded out of the surface material, the two tongues endeavor to spread out. As a result, they exert a clamping force after insertion into the roll core, which serves to further improve the holding force of the end cover in the roll core.
  • the use of two tongues creates a sufficient holding force. When using only two tongues, handling is also relatively easy.
  • a web with a width in the range from 20 to 40 mm preferably remains between the base lines. Such a web is necessary, but also sufficient, in order to maintain a reliable connection between the tongues and the surface material of the end cover. Such a web also allows the use of an abutment when the tongues are folded out of the plane of the end cover.
  • the edges of the tongues come to rest completely against the inside circumference of the roll core. A relatively high clamping force is therefore achieved here.
  • the end covers can then be positioned on the end of the roll to be packed with almost no play.
  • the dividing line is interrupted once in the area of the tip of the tongue.
  • the tip of the tongue is the area of the tongue that is farthest from the baseline.
  • a relatively small or small interruption of the dividing line is sufficient to hold the tongue reliably in the plane of the end cover.
  • the outlay in terms of apparatus for releasing the tongue from the front cover and for folding it out can be kept relatively small, since the connection between the tongue and the front cover can then be released with a relatively small force which acts on a relatively large lever and thus generates a large breakaway torque .
  • the dividing line is advantageously punched out. Since the end covers are punched out of straight sheets anyway, the creation of the dividing line is possible without major additional effort. It is only necessary to slightly modify the punching tool.
  • the dividing line is advantageously designed as a perforation. Perforation is easy to break open, but on the other hand allows the tongue to remain in the plane of the faceplate during transport. Such a perforation can be provided without and also with an interruption of the dividing line.
  • At least one further dividing line is provided in the interior of the tongue and, together with the base line, delimits a smaller tongue.
  • roll cores with different diameters are generally used, for example roll cores with an inner diameter of approximately 76 mm (3 inches) or an inner diameter of approximately 150 mm (6 inches). If tongues of different sizes are now provided in a single end cover, this end cover can also be used for roll cores with different inner diameters be used. This considerably simplifies the position keeping. The production process is also made more flexible, since it is no longer necessary to ensure that the correct end cover is assigned to the correct roll core.
  • the length of the interruption of the dividing line of a tongue located further inside is smaller than that of a tongue lying further outside. This ensures that when the tongue lying further inside, i.e. the tongue for the roll cores with a smaller diameter, is folded out, only the inner tongue is folded out, but the tongue lying further outside or the tongue lying further out reliably in the front cover due to the larger interruption be held. Conversely, when the outer tongues are folded out, the inner tongues are taken along, since the holding force of the interruption is sufficient. The force necessary to fold the tongues out of the plane of the end cover increases from the inside out.
  • Each tongue is advantageously beveled at its end opposite the base line. This makes it easier to insert the tongue into the roll core.
  • the bevel has an angle in the range from 20 ° to 60 ° with respect to the long side of the tongue. This corresponds to an angular range of 70 ° to 30 ° to the baseline.
  • the slope downforce is sufficient to ensure that the tongue can be inserted into the sleeve, even when the face cover is tilted.
  • the tip of the tongue is blunt enough not to be damaged.
  • the end of the tongue itself can in turn be flattened.
  • the dividing line of each tongue starting from the base line, initially runs essentially at right angles to it over a length of at least 50 mm.
  • This area effects the actual holding function of the tongue inserted into the roll core. With such a length it is ensured that the end cover cannot tip out of the roll core.
  • the bevelled part of the tongue has a length in the range of 0.8 to 2.5 times the length in which the dividing line runs essentially at right angles to the base line.
  • the "tongue tip” thus has a length in the range of 0.8 to 2.5 times the length of the "tongue base”. The tongue can then be inserted relatively easily into the roll core without the holding force of the tongue suffering in the roll core.
  • the baseline is advantageously grooved. This creates a nominal crease line along which the tongues can be folded out of the sheet material.
  • the creasing does not necessarily have to end with the baselines. However, it is advantageous if the grooves do not extend over the entire end cover, since there is otherwise the danger that the end cover will be folded along these grooves.
  • the surface material of the end cover is advantageously formed by corrugated cardboard, beer felt cardboard or mixed cardboard. These materials are easy to dispose of and lead to recycling. On the other hand, they offer sufficient protection when transporting the packaged roll and sufficient inherent rigidity for handling the front cover. Other materials with similar properties can also be used.
  • the base lines run perpendicular to the wave shape. This gives the tongues a relatively high level of rigidity even when they are folded out.
  • a marking which is in a predetermined relationship with the angular position of the tongue is provided in particular on the outer circumference.
  • the end covers can be correctly aligned in a magazine.
  • the markings can be used to align the end cover in its angular position during the application of the end cover or shortly before it so that the application tool can fold the tongues out of the end cover in the desired manner.
  • the marking is preferably formed by a recess.
  • a recess can be easily made and reliably detected.
  • the invention also relates to a device of the type mentioned at the outset for applying such an end cover to a roller, in which the application head has at least one push-out lever for pressing out at least one tongue which can be folded out of the end cover and which extends from a plane lying essentially parallel to the plane of the application head a pivot axis can be pivoted into an end position substantially perpendicular to this plane.
  • the tongue or the tongues can be folded out of the end cover and aligned so that they are substantially perpendicular to the plane of the end cover, that is, they can be inserted into the roll core.
  • the pivoting movement is of course carried out so that the tongue or tongues finally protrude towards the roller.
  • two push-out levers are provided which can be pivoted towards one another. This avoids forces on the end cover which act parallel to the plane of the end cover and which could lead to a displacement of the end cover. These forces are canceled out by the two pushing levers that can be moved towards each other. A resulting force remains, which is only used to fold the tongues out of the front cover.
  • the two push-out levers can be pivoted beyond an angle of 90 °.
  • the angular amount going beyond 90 ° can be relatively small. With a feed head designed in this way, however, it is possible for the two push-out levers to clamp the two tongues which are folded out between them. If the two push-out levers are now inserted into the roller core, they can pull the tongues into the roller core. This ensures that the front cover is securely positioned on the roller.
  • a shelf is provided from which the contact head grips the end cover, openings being provided in the shelf for each tongue through which the tongue can be folded.
  • Such storage without openings is known per se, for example from DE 38 03 874 C2.
  • this shelf serves to center the end covers on the way from a storage space to the roll in relation to the roll.
  • such a tray also has the advantage that the end covers can be left in their flat shape until they are gripped by the contact head. The space requirement is therefore limited.
  • the tray also forms the abutment, which makes it easier to fold the tongues out of the end cover.
  • the tray preferably has a positioning device in order to twist the end cover. This makes it possible to align the tongues so that they can be easily folded out of the plane of the end cover by the push-out levers without the push-out levers being accidentally guided against a point which is outside the dividing line.
  • the positioning device preferably has a sensor that detects the marking. Since the marking correlates with the angular position of the tongues, it can easily be determined from the position of the marking whether the tongues are in the correct angular position. If this is not the case, the front cover can be turned accordingly.
  • the tray advantageously forms part of a centering station that centers the end cover with respect to the roll. This further considerably simplifies the attachment of the end covers to the roll to be packed, since the tongues are now automatically in the correct position Are position to be inserted into the roll core. Additional measures are not necessary. It is also not necessary to place the end covers in a specific position on a storage device.
  • two openings are provided in the shelf, which are separated from one another by a plate region, the width of which essentially corresponds to that of the web of the end cover.
  • the plate area can be a bit narrower, but should not be wider than the web. This plate area thus forms the abutment, which is expediently provided for folding the tongues out of the plane of the end cover.
  • the position of the pivot axis preferably coincides essentially with the position of the base line. This results in relatively little friction between the ejection lever and the tongue when swiveling out, so that the device works energetically favorably. In addition, the risk of damage to the front cover or the tongue is relatively low.
  • a control device which, after the application of the application head to the end cover, pivots the push-out levers by an angle of no greater than 90 °, moves the application head to the roller, and moves the pressure levers further towards one another before the application of the front cover to the roller, in order to Pinching tongues between them.
  • the pressure levers first pivot the tongues out of the plane of the front cover. Then the front cover is lifted off the shelf. This usually does not even require a suction head, as was previously the case, since the push-out levers hold the tongues between them. Before inserting the tongue into the The two ejection levers are moved towards each other in the roller core in order to clamp the tongues between them.
  • the tips of the tongues can now be drawn into the inside of the roll core. If the release levers are now opened a little, the friction between the tongues and the release levers decreases. Rather, the tongues wedge in the roller core, so that the push-out levers can be pulled out of the roller core without problems.
  • Such a movement pattern of the push-out lever can easily be achieved with a 3-position cylinder or another drive.
  • a front cover 1 made of corrugated cardboard has four tongues 3-6 in the area of its center 2, which are explained in more detail in connection with FIG. 2. Furthermore, a marking 7 in the form of a recess is provided on the outer circumference of the end cover. The position of the marking 7 is in a predetermined relationship to the angular position of the tongues 3-6, for example it is offset in the circumferential direction by 90 ° to the tongue tips. In the illustrated embodiment, the mark 7 is located at the lower end of the front cover 1 when the tongues 3-6 extend horizontally in the case of a vertical front cover 1.
  • a waveform 8 of the corrugated cardboard forming the end cover 1 is indicated schematically. The waveform extends parallel to the extension of the tongues 3-6.

Description

The invention relates to an end cover made of sheet material with a predetermined stiffness for packaging webs wound on a roll core in the sheet material, at least one dividing line is provided, which together with a base line delimits at least one tongue, which can be folded out of the sheet material around the base line, and a device to put such a front cover on a roll with a feed head that grips a front cover and brings it to bear on the roll.

Sheets, for example paper sheets, wound on a roll core are usually packed before transport so that an end cover made of sheet material with a predetermined rigidity is placed on the end faces and then the roll is wrapped with a packaging material, for example wrapping paper. The packaging material protrudes laterally over the roll. The excess is folded over the inner front cover. A further end cover, an outer end cover, can then be applied, which is usually the case is glued to the folded overhang and to the inner front cover.

As long as the end cover is not yet held in place by the folded excess of the packaging material, it must be fixed to the end face of the roll in a different way. For this purpose, it is known to hammer plugs into the roll core, which hold there by friction or clamping forces, and to fasten the end cover to the plug with the aid of clips or nails. However, with the increasing demand for environmental compatibility of packaging, these stoppers are difficult to reconcile. They are usually made of a material that is not reusable. The reuse of the plugs themselves is also difficult, since these plugs are usually damaged or destroyed when pulled out of the roll core.

The fastening of the end cover to the roll core itself with the aid of clips or nails cannot be carried out with sufficient accuracy in the normal production process, so that there is a risk that the clips or nails will be knocked into the wound web and damage it. In addition, roller cores made of metal are occasionally used, into which nails or staples cannot be hammered anyway.

It is also known to put on the end cover only shortly before wrapping the roll with the packaging material and to hold the end cover in place until the folded excess of the packaging material holds the end cover sufficiently. However, this method does not offer sufficient security during packaging, since if the packaging process is disrupted, the end caps can fall off before the packaging material is able to hold the end caps in place. In addition, the end caps can slip when the packaging material is being applied to an extent which is no longer tolerable, so that the roll to be packed is no longer uniformly protected everywhere.

Eine derartige Verpackung ist für Rollen geeignet, die einen Durchmesser in der Größenordnung von 12,7 cm aufweisen.US-A-2 615 564 shows an end-face package for rolls which is formed from a rectangular blank which has a width which is adapted to the diameter of the roll to be packed and a length which is twice the width. A tongue is provided on the narrow sides, which can be pivoted about a bending line, the bending line being at a distance from the narrow side. Such packaging is suitable for rolls that have a diameter of the order of 12.7 cm.

Die Stirndeckel haben hierbei jeweils ausklappbare Zungen, die zwischen einzelne Lagen der Drahtrolle oder in den Rollenkern eingeschoben werden können.US-A-4 004 396 shows a method for packaging rolls formed from wire nets, such as those used for fences. The rolls are wrapped with a shrink film. So that the shrink film on the end faces is not damaged by protruding tips, the end faces are provided with end covers. The end covers each have fold-out tongues that can be inserted between individual layers of the wire roll or in the roll core.

The invention has for its object to provide a front cover that can be attached to the roller with sufficient security without a plug in the core.

This object is achieved with a front cover of the type mentioned in that the dividing line is interrupted.

The fold-out tongue can be inserted into the roll core and then holds the front cover firmly on the roll. The tongue is only folded out when the end cover is to be placed on the roll. With this measure, the previously essentially flat structure of the end cover becomes a spatial structure in which the necessary fastening means are an integral part of the end cover. Additional materials for packaging the roll, such as plugs or clips or nails, can be completely omitted. This considerably simplifies the disposal of the packaging material. In addition, fewer steps have to be performed when unpacking the roll. As a result, the force required to fold the tongue out of the end cover is increased, but the handling of the end cover before the opening of the tongues is simplified, since there is no risk that the tongues will move out of the plane of the surface material of the end cover during such handling move out. Rather, they are held by the areas where the dividing line is broken.

In order to increase the security of the plug-in or clamping connection between the roll core and the end cover, several tongues are provided in an advantageous embodiment, the end points of the base lines being arranged on a circle. The folded out front covers then form a kind of open polygon. Since the end points of the base lines are arranged on a circle, each tongue has the same supporting function, i.e. all tongues are loaded evenly.

In a particularly advantageous embodiment, two tongues are provided, the base lines of which run essentially parallel to one another. The use of two tongues creates a sufficient holding force. When using only two tongues, handling is also relatively easy.

A web with a width in the range from 20 to 40 mm preferably remains between the base lines. Such a web is necessary, but also sufficient, in order to maintain a reliable connection between the tongues and the surface material of the end cover. Such a web also allows the use of an abutment when the tongues are folded out of the plane of the end cover.

If the diameter of the circle corresponds to the inside diameter of the roll core, as is the case in an advantageous embodiment, the edges of the tongues come to rest completely against the inside circumference of the roll core. A relatively high clamping force is therefore achieved here. The end covers can then be positioned on the end of the roll to be packed with almost no play.

It is particularly preferred here that the dividing line is interrupted once in the area of the tip of the tongue.

The tip of the tongue is the area of the tongue that is farthest from the baseline. A relatively small or small interruption of the dividing line is sufficient to hold the tongue reliably in the plane of the end cover. On the other hand, the outlay in terms of apparatus for releasing the tongue from the front cover and for folding it out can be kept relatively small, since the connection between the tongue and the front cover can then be released with a relatively small force which acts on a relatively large lever and thus generates a large breakaway torque .

The dividing line is advantageously punched out. Since the end covers are punched out of straight sheets anyway, the creation of the dividing line is possible without major additional effort. It is only necessary to slightly modify the punching tool.

The dividing line is advantageously designed as a perforation. Perforation is easy to break open, but on the other hand allows the tongue to remain in the plane of the faceplate during transport. Such a perforation can be provided without and also with an interruption of the dividing line.

In a particularly advantageous embodiment, at least one further dividing line is provided in the interior of the tongue and, together with the base line, delimits a smaller tongue. In particular in paper mills, roll cores with different diameters are generally used, for example roll cores with an inner diameter of approximately 76 mm (3 inches) or an inner diameter of approximately 150 mm (6 inches).

It is preferred here that the length of the interruption of the dividing line of a tongue located further inside is smaller than that of a tongue lying further outside.

Each tongue is advantageously beveled at its end opposite the base line. This makes it easier to insert the tongue into the roll core. In addition, it is not necessary for the end cover to always lie in an exactly aligned angular position with respect to the folding tool of the placement station. A certain correction can be achieved by the bevel, which is then correspondingly present in the end cover in its negative form.

It has proven to be an advantageous size for the bevel if the bevel has an angle in the range from 20 ° to 60 ° with respect to the long side of the tongue. This corresponds to an angular range of 70 ° to 30 ° to the baseline. With such an angle is one hand the slope downforce is sufficient to ensure that the tongue can be inserted into the sleeve, even when the face cover is tilted. On the other hand, the tip of the tongue is blunt enough not to be damaged. The end of the tongue itself can in turn be flattened.

Advantageously, the dividing line of each tongue, starting from the base line, initially runs essentially at right angles to it over a length of at least 50 mm. This area effects the actual holding function of the tongue inserted into the roll core. With such a length it is ensured that the end cover cannot tip out of the roll core.

It is preferred here that the bevelled part of the tongue has a length in the range of 0.8 to 2.5 times the length in which the dividing line runs essentially at right angles to the base line. The "tongue tip" thus has a length in the range of 0.8 to 2.5 times the length of the "tongue base". The tongue can then be inserted relatively easily into the roll core without the holding force of the tongue suffering in the roll core.

The baseline is advantageously grooved. This creates a nominal crease line along which the tongues can be folded out of the sheet material. The creasing does not necessarily have to end with the baselines. However, it is advantageous if the grooves do not extend over the entire end cover, since there is otherwise the danger that the end cover will be folded along these grooves.

The surface material of the end cover is advantageously formed by corrugated cardboard, beer felt cardboard or mixed cardboard. These materials are easy to dispose of and lead to recycling. On the other hand, they offer sufficient protection when transporting the packaged roll and sufficient inherent rigidity for handling the front cover. Other materials with similar properties can also be used.

It is preferred that the base lines run perpendicular to the wave shape. This gives the tongues a relatively high level of rigidity even when they are folded out.

Advantageously, a marking which is in a predetermined relationship with the angular position of the tongue is provided in particular on the outer circumference. With the help of this marking, the end covers can be correctly aligned in a magazine. In another embodiment, the markings can be used to align the end cover in its angular position during the application of the end cover or shortly before it so that the application tool can fold the tongues out of the end cover in the desired manner.

The marking is preferably formed by a recess. A recess can be easily made and reliably detected.

The invention also relates to a device of the type mentioned at the outset for applying such an end cover to a roller, in which the application head has at least one push-out lever for pressing out at least one tongue which can be folded out of the end cover and which extends from a plane lying essentially parallel to the plane of the application head a pivot axis can be pivoted into an end position substantially perpendicular to this plane.

With such a device, the tongue or the tongues can be folded out of the end cover and aligned so that they are substantially perpendicular to the plane of the end cover, that is, they can be inserted into the roll core. The pivoting movement is of course carried out so that the tongue or tongues finally protrude towards the roller. With such a feed head one can do without the known devices for shooting staples or nails. This makes the application head and thus the entire device simpler. The operation of the device is also simpler, since it no longer has to be ensured that enough clips or nails are contained in a storage magazine.

In a preferred embodiment, two push-out levers are provided which can be pivoted towards one another. This avoids forces on the end cover which act parallel to the plane of the end cover and which could lead to a displacement of the end cover. These forces are canceled out by the two pushing levers that can be moved towards each other. A resulting force remains, which is only used to fold the tongues out of the front cover.

It is particularly preferred here that the two push-out levers can be pivoted beyond an angle of 90 °. The angular amount going beyond 90 ° can be relatively small. With a feed head designed in this way, however, it is possible for the two push-out levers to clamp the two tongues which are folded out between them. If the two push-out levers are now inserted into the roller core, they can pull the tongues into the roller core. This ensures that the front cover is securely positioned on the roller.

Advantageously, a shelf is provided from which the contact head grips the end cover, openings being provided in the shelf for each tongue through which the tongue can be folded. Such storage without openings is known per se, for example from DE 38 03 874 C2. Here this shelf serves to center the end covers on the way from a storage space to the roll in relation to the roll. In addition to the centering function, such a tray also has the advantage that the end covers can be left in their flat shape until they are gripped by the contact head. The space requirement is therefore limited. The tray also forms the abutment, which makes it easier to fold the tongues out of the end cover.

The tray preferably has a positioning device in order to twist the end cover. This makes it possible to align the tongues so that they can be easily folded out of the plane of the end cover by the push-out levers without the push-out levers being accidentally guided against a point which is outside the dividing line.

For this purpose, the positioning device preferably has a sensor that detects the marking. Since the marking correlates with the angular position of the tongues, it can easily be determined from the position of the marking whether the tongues are in the correct angular position. If this is not the case, the front cover can be turned accordingly.

The tray advantageously forms part of a centering station that centers the end cover with respect to the roll. This further considerably simplifies the attachment of the end covers to the roll to be packed, since the tongues are now automatically in the correct position Are position to be inserted into the roll core. Additional measures are not necessary. It is also not necessary to place the end covers in a specific position on a storage device.

Advantageously, two openings are provided in the shelf, which are separated from one another by a plate region, the width of which essentially corresponds to that of the web of the end cover. The plate area can be a bit narrower, but should not be wider than the web. This plate area thus forms the abutment, which is expediently provided for folding the tongues out of the plane of the end cover.

The position of the pivot axis preferably coincides essentially with the position of the base line. This results in relatively little friction between the ejection lever and the tongue when swiveling out, so that the device works energetically favorably. In addition, the risk of damage to the front cover or the tongue is relatively low.

Advantageously, a control device is provided which, after the application of the application head to the end cover, pivots the push-out levers by an angle of no greater than 90 °, moves the application head to the roller, and moves the pressure levers further towards one another before the application of the front cover to the roller, in order to Pinching tongues between them. The pressure levers first pivot the tongues out of the plane of the front cover. Then the front cover is lifted off the shelf. This usually does not even require a suction head, as was previously the case, since the push-out levers hold the tongues between them. Before inserting the tongue into the The two ejection levers are moved towards each other in the roller core in order to clamp the tongues between them. As described above, the tips of the tongues can now be drawn into the inside of the roll core. If the release levers are now opened a little, the friction between the tongues and the release levers decreases. Rather, the tongues wedge in the roller core, so that the push-out levers can be pulled out of the roller core without problems. Such a movement pattern of the push-out lever can easily be achieved with a 3-position cylinder or another drive.

A front cover 1 made of corrugated cardboard has four tongues 3-6 in the area of its center 2, which are explained in more detail in connection with FIG. A waveform 8 of the corrugated cardboard forming the end cover 1 is indicated schematically. The waveform extends parallel to the extension of the tongues 3-6.

The tongue 3 is delimited by a dividing line 9 and a base line 13. The tongue 3 is separated from the end cover 1 along the dividing line 9. The tongue 3 is connected to the end cover 1 via the base line 13. The tongue 3 can be folded out of the end cover 1 around the base line 13. The essentially flat end cover 1 then becomes a spatial structure in which the tongue 3 protrudes from an essentially flat surface material. In the same way, the tongue 5 is delimited by a dividing line 11 and a base line 14. The base lines 13, 14 are grooved, so that here a desired crease line is created which folds out the tongues 3, 5 out of the plane of the end cover 1 very much easier. The creasing can also go beyond the end points of the base lines 13, 14. However, it is not recommended if the creases cross the entire end cover 1. The wave shape 8 of the end cover 1 runs, as can be seen in particular from FIG. 1, essentially perpendicular to the base lines 13, 14. Thus, the tongues 3, 5 which are folded out of the plane of the end cover 1 also have an inherently stiffness which is relatively pronounced in the longitudinal direction.

A further dividing line 10 or 12 is provided within the tongues 3, 5 and, together with the base line 13 or 14, delimits a smaller tongue 4, 6 in each case.

The dividing lines 9, 11 and 10, 12 each have an interruption 15, 16, the length of the interruption of the more external dividing line 11 being greater than the length of the interruption 16 of the more internal dividing line 12. In the interruption 15, 16 of the dividing line 11, 12 (the same interruptions are of course provided for the dividing line 9, 10), the tongue 5 and 6 is connected to the end cover 1. During normal handling of the front cover 1, the tongue 5 or 6 cannot fold out of the plane of the front cover 1 by itself. This is only possible if the connection at the interruption 15, 16 is torn open or broken by an external force. Due to the gradations in the lengths of the interruptions 15, 16, only an interruption 16 is broken open when an external force acts on the inner tongue 6. The connection between the tongue 5 and the end cover formed by the interruption 15 remains intact. The result of this is that only the tongue 6 is pivoted out of the plane of the end cover 1 becomes. If, on the other hand, a force acts on the tongue 5 and this can break the interruption 15 of the dividing line 11, the tongue 5 is pivoted together with the tongue 6 around the base line 14 out of the plane of the end cover 1. By controlling the point of attack of the force acting on the tongues 5, 6 it is therefore possible to control which of the two tongues is to be pivoted out of the plane of the end cover 1. This should be clarified in connection with FIGS. 3 and 4.

In Fig. 3, a roll core 17 is shown with a predetermined diameter of about 76 mm (3 inches). The width of the inner tongue 6 is adapted to the inner diameter of the roll core 17. If a roll wound on a roll core 17 is to be packed using the end cover 1, only the tongue 6 is folded out of the plane of the end cover 1. The tongue 6 is then inserted into the roll core 17 so that the end cover 1 is reliably attached to the end face of the roll.

In this case, the tongue 5 is folded out of the plane of the front cover 1. The tongue 6 is also folded out of the plane of the end cover 1 via the connection of tongue 5 with tongue 6 remaining through the interruption 16 of the dividing line 12. Both tongues 5, 6 are then still in one plane, since they also have the same base line 14 and are folded around them. This results in a closed tongue 5, 6 of relatively high rigidity, which can also be inserted into the inside of the roll core 18, so that even with a larger roll core 18, the end cover 1 can be reliably attached to the end face. Naturally more tongue sizes can also be provided, depending on the intended use or the size of the rolls to be packaged and the inner diameters of the roll cores.

In the same way, the tongues 3 and 4 can be folded out of the plane of the end cover 1 around the base line 13. Here too, the dividing lines 9, 10 are provided with interruptions, which are not designated in any more detail.

It can be seen that the end points of the baselines 13, 14, i.e. the intersections of the dividing lines 9, 11 with the base lines 13, 14 and the intersections of the dividing lines 10, 12 with the base lines 13, 14 are each arranged on a circle, these circles essentially corresponding to the inner diameters of the roll cores 17, 18.

The base lines 13, 14 are arranged essentially parallel to one another. A web with a width in the range of approximately 20 to approximately 40 mm remains between them, for example with a width of approximately 30 mm. The width of the web 19 can be varied by shifting the intersection points of the dividing lines 9 to 12 on the inner diameters of the roll cores 17, 18. As long as these intersections lie on the circles mentioned, it is ensured that the outer edges of the tongues 3-6 are always in contact with the inner surface of the roller cores 17, 18 when the tongues 3-6 are inserted into the interior of the roller cores 17, 18.

In the present exemplary embodiment, two tongues 3, 5 and 4, 6 which are opposite one another in pairs are shown. If these tongues are now folded out of the plane of the end cover 1, they always act in parallel to the plane of the end cover opposing forces, so that there is no fear of displacement of the end cover 1 in its plane, since the forces necessary for this cancel each other out.

Of course, more than just two tongues can also be provided. For example, three or four tongues can be provided. Here, too, the end points of the base lines should be arranged on a circle which essentially corresponds to the inside diameter of the roll cores 17, 18.

The dividing lines 9-12 are punched out. Since the end covers are punched out of plates, which can be formed from corrugated cardboard, beer felt cardboard, mixed cardboard or similar materials, the additional attachment of the dividing lines 9-11 is practically no effort. At the same time as the dividing lines 9-12 are punched out, the base lines 13, 14 can be grooved.

The dividing lines 9-12 can also be formed by perforations, the perforation of the inner tongue 4, 6 should be easier to detach than the perforation of the outer dividing lines 9, 11, so that the desired tongue can be specifically folded out of the plane of the front cover 1 .

The tongues 3-6 are chamfered at their tips, ie at the ends facing away from the base lines 13, 14. The tips then form an angle 20 with the long side of the tongue, which has a size in the range from approximately 20 ° to approximately 60 °. In the same way, the negative form of this bevel then remains in the end cover 1. This bevel has the advantage that the threading is made easier when the tongues are inserted into the inside of the roll core 17, 18. The tongue does not have to be exactly centric enter the roll core. Centering occurs automatically due to the bevel. On the other hand, the negative shape of the bevel in the front cover 1 itself results in the advantage that the front cover can be slightly rotated when the tongues 3-6 are pushed out or folded out of the plane of the front cover 1 if the front cover is not aligned so that the Tongues lie exactly in the plane of a tool intended for pressing out. This results in a further automatic alignment of the end cover 1 in relation to the roll to be packaged.

From the base line 13 or 14, the dividing lines 9-12 initially run essentially vertically. This section has a length of at least 50 mm. Such a length ensures that the end covers can no longer tip off the roll to be packaged when the tongues 3-6 are inserted into the inside of the roll core 17, 18. The length of the tip, i.e. the length of the remaining part of the tongues 3-6 can then be approximately 0.8 to approximately 2.5 times the length in which the dividing lines 9-12 run approximately at right angles to the base line 13, 14. The tongues do not have to be perfectly pointed. Rather, as shown in FIG. 2, the dividing lines 9-12 at the tips can run parallel to the base lines 13, 14.

To attach the front cover, the tongues are folded out in pairs, for example tongues 3 and 5 or tongues 4 and 6, out of the plane of the front cover 1. The tongues 3, 5 and 4, 6, which are then essentially perpendicular to the plane of the end cover 1, are introduced into the interior of the roll core 17 and 18, respectively. The end cover is then temporarily fixed to the roll to be packed. The roll to be packaged is then wrapped with packaging material, such as wrapping paper, the overhang of which is folded over on the end faces of the roll, so that this overhang finally holds the end cover in the desired position. Between the application of the end cover 1 and the folding of the overhang, the tongues 3-6 offer sufficient holding force of the end cover in relation to the roll core 17, 18 and thus in relation to the roll to be packed, so that the end cover 1 is not accidentally removed from the roll to be packed can fall off.

26' liegt. The end covers can be put on by hand. However, it is easier if the end covers are fed in an automatic feed station. Such a station is known for example from DE 38 03 874 C2, to which reference is made for further details. In such an end cover feed device, end covers are removed from storage spaces and placed on a shelf 21, which is at this time in a substantially horizontal position. The tray 21 then tilts into an approximately vertical position, so that the end cover comes to rest against stops 22, 23, the shape of which essentially corresponds to the shape of bearing rollers 24, 25 on which the roller 26 or 26 'to be packed lies.

At least one of the stops 23 is driven by a motor 27, which is controlled by a control device 28, which in turn receives an input signal from a sensor 29. The motor 27 rotates a front cover 1 placed on the shelf 21 until the sensor 29 detects the presence of the mark 7. As soon as this is the case, it is certain that the tongues 3-6 have come to rest exactly via openings 30, 31 provided in the system 21. Of course, other measures can also be taken to ensure that the end covers are correctly positioned on the shelf, for example by already feeding them in the correct position will. A plate area 32 is provided between the openings 30, 31, the width of which corresponds approximately to the width of the web 19.

The device has an application head 33 which is to be explained in more detail in connection with FIGS. 7 to 11. The contact head is attached to an arm 34, which can be adjusted in height in the direction of an arrow 35 by means of a stand 36 and can be pivoted about an axis of rotation 38 along an arrow 37. The application head 33 removes the end cover 1 from the shelf 21. Since the end cover 1 is already centered in relation to the end face of the roller 26 by the stops 22, 23, the contact head 33 with the stand 36 only has to be at the correct height, i.e. be moved to the height of the center of the roller 26. If the end cover is gripped there and the application head 33 is then pivoted in the direction of arrow 37, it automatically comes into the correct centered position on the roller 26. With a smaller end cover 1 ', the arm 34 is moved into the position 34' shown in broken lines, so that it can also operate a smaller roller 26 '.

Gleiches gilt für den Ausdrückhebel 40.The application head 33 has two push-out levers 39, 40 which can be pivoted out of a position essentially in the plane of a pressure plate 41 with the aid of servomotors 42, 43 from this plane of the pressure plate 41, namely by an angle of slightly more than 90 ° . The push-out levers 39, 40 are divided into two. For example, the push-out lever 39 has an inner part 39 'and an outer part 39''. If both parts are connected to one another, the push-out lever 39 is suitable for pivoting the larger tongue 3 together with the smaller tongue 4 out of the plane of the end cover 1. If both parts are separated, the servomotor 42 acts only on the inner part 39 'of the push-out lever 39, so that only the smaller tongue 4 is pivoted out of the plane of the end cover 1. Of course, both parts can also be permanently separated if both parts 39 'and 39''each have their own drive. The same applies to the push-out lever 40.

The operation of the application head 33 is to be explained schematically with reference to FIGS. 9 to 11. The front cover 1 lies on the shelf 21. The push-out levers 39, 40 are moved against the tongues 3, 4 and are pivoted forward about pivot axes 44, 45, which lie essentially in the same position as the base lines 13, 14, specifically around about 90 ° or slightly less, so that the state shown in Fig. 10 results. Despite the creasing in the base lines 13, 14, the two tongues 3, 5 still have a certain internal stress which tends to spread the two tongues 3, 5 outwards again, so that the two tongues 3, 5 counteract with a certain force the push-out levers 39, 40 rest. There is thus a relatively large amount of friction between the tongues 3, 5 and the pushing-out levers 39, 40. The application head 33 is now lifted off the shelf 21, the tongues 3, 5 being able to be guided past the plate region 32 without any problems. As soon as the front cover 1 is completely lifted off the shelf 21, the push-out levers 39, 40 are pivoted further, ie, beyond 90 °, as shown in FIG. 11. This can be achieved, for example, in that the servomotors 42, 43 are designed as 3-position cylinders. The two push-out levers 39, 40 clamp the two tongues 3, 5 firmly between them. If the feed head 33 now moves to the roll 26 to be packed, the two push-out levers 39, 40 can pull the tongues 3, 4 into the inside of the roll core 18, so that the end cover is reliably brought into contact here. The push-out levers 39, 40 then pivot back to a position of slightly less than 90 ° with respect to the plane of the pressure plate 41. Here, the two tongues 3, 5 spread so that, as shown in FIG. 4, they come into contact with the inside of the roller core 18. The feed head 33 can now be withdrawn without any problem, without the end cover being pulled out of the roll core.

Since the tongues 3, 5 are held in place by friction on the pushing-out levers 39, 40, there is usually no need for a suction device on the application head 33, so that in addition to the hammering device for clips, another element is omitted, which makes the construction of the application head relatively simple.

With the device shown and the end caps, rolls can now be packaged without additional parts, such as plugs or clamps being necessary, but it is ensured that the end cap remains securely on the roll to be packaged at least on the way of the roll in a packaging device.

The embodiment shown can vary in many respects. For example, the push-out levers 39, 40 can be provided with angled levers on which the servomotors 42, 43 act.
