Claims (17)

  1. A surface-mounted light fitting of the type comprising a base (10) which is suitable for mounting it on any support surface and which comprises at its surface a compartment (11), referred to as a connecting compartment, into which the necessary supply cable (12) can pass, a socket support (13) which comprises a housing (14) by means of which it is capable of receiving a socket (15) and which, forming a separate piece from the base (10), is adapted to be removably fitted thereto, then closing its connecting compartment (11), and a diffuser (16) which is also adapted to be fitted to the base (10) around the connecting compartment (11), delimiting with the base (10) the volume required to accommodate a bulb, characterised in that, sliding mounting means on the one hand and latching locking means on the other hand being operative between the socket support (13) and the base (10), with, for the sliding mounting means, two slides (28) which are provided on the base (10), on respective sides of the connecting compartment (11), and with which the socket support (13) is adapted to come into sliding engagement, the socket support (13) comprises a mounting plate (32), by the lateral edge portions (35) of which it is adapted to come into engagement with the slides (28) of the base (10) and which, when it is in position, covers the connecting compartment (11).
  2. A surface-mounted light fitting according to claim 1 characterised in that, at least at the level of its lateral edge portions (35), the mounting plate (32) of the socket support (13) is cambered.
  3. A surface-mounted light fitting according to either one of claims 1 and 2 characterised in that the slides (28) of the base (10) are each respectively preceded by inclined engagement walls (30) which, directed towards their bottom (31), are adapted to facilitate engagement therein of the socket support (13).
  4. A surface-mounted light fitting according to any one of claims 1 to 3 characterized in that disposed between the socket support (13) and the base (10) are support and guide means which, when the socket support (13) is set in position, permit said socket support (13) to be supported on the base (10) upstream of the sliding mounting means.
  5. A surface-mounted light fitting according to claim 4 characterised in that said support and guide means comprise on the base (10) a boss (38) in projecting relationship on its bottom (20) in the connecting compartment (11) and on the socket support (13) a partition (39) by way of which it is capable of bearing against said boss (38).
  6. A surface-mounted light fitting according to claim 5 characterised in that, the connecting compartment (11) opening to the exterior both at the front and laterally, the boss (38) that it comprises is level with its lateral opening (26).
  7. A surface-mounted light fitting according to claim 6 characterised in that the lateral opening (26) of the connecting compartment (11) is preceded by an inclined engagement wall (42) which attains the level thereof.
  8. A surface-mounted light fitting according to either one of claims 6 and 7 characterised in that, for closing off the lateral opening (26) of the connecting compartment (11), the socket support (13) comprises a dropped edge (34).
  9. A surface-mounted light fitting according to any one of claims 1 to 8 characterised in that the latching locking means disposed between the socket support (13) and the base (10) comprise, on any one of the elements constituted by said socket support (13) and said base (10), at least one elastically deformable tongue portion (45, 45') and on the other of said elements a retaining catch (46, 46') with which said elastically deformable tongue portion (45, 45') is intended to co-operate in abutting relationship.
  10. A surface-mounted light fitting according to claim 9 characterised in that there is provided a single elastically deformable tongue portion (45) and it is on the socket support (13).
  11. A surface-mounted light fitting according to claim 10 characterised in that the elastically deformable tongue portion (45) is eccentric.
  12. A surface-mounted light fitting according to either one of claims 10 and 11 characterised in that extending at a right angle at one end of the retaining catch (46) is a rib (47) forming a lateral abutment for the elastically deformable tongue portion (45).
  13. A surface-mounted light fitting according to any one of claims 10 to 12 characterised in that, the socket support (13) comprising a dropped edge (34), the elastically deformable tongue portion (45) extends in cantilever relationship from the free edge of the dropped edge.
  14. A surface-mounted light fitting according to any one of claims 10 to 13 characterised in that the elastically deformable tongue portion (45) has an opening (50) for the use of a screw (51).
  15. A surface-mounted light fitting according to claim 9 characterised in that there are provided two elastically deformable tongue portions (45') and they are disposed on the base (10), each extending on resective sides of the connecting compartment (11).
  16. A surface-mounted light fitting according to any one of claims 1 to 15 characterised in that, a reflector (18) being provided, said reflector (18) covers at least in part the socket support (13) when the latter is in position on the base (10) and fixing thereof to said base (10) is effected by at least one screw (60).
  17. A surface-mounted light fitting according to claim 16 characterised in that projecting on the reflector (18) is a boss (67) which forms a screen between the head of the screw (60) and the bulb used.
