Definitions
- the invention relates to a profiled elastomeric seal intended to be laid and fixed, in particular by gluing, in a peripheral groove of a tunnel segment or the like.
- the segments are segments of tube, having a rounded shape and a substantially rectangular or square outline comprising a peripheral groove in which a seal is mounted.
- the peripheral grooves of the segments generally have a trapezoidal section.
- the seals intended to be mounted in these grooves therefore generally comprise two parallel flat faces which are connected together by inclined sides, one of these faces being intended to be applied to the bottom of the peripheral groove of the segment , the inclined flanks being applied to the flanks of the groove of the segment, and the other face of the joint being intended to be applied to the corresponding face of a similar joint mounted in the peripheral groove of an adjacent segment.
- longitudinal grooves and / or channels are formed in the joint and constitute voids allowing the compression and the crushing of the joint in the peripheral groove of the segment when the segments are assembled to each other.
- a seal for this fate is known from European patent application EP-A-0 414 617
- the subject of the invention is a seal meeting these criteria.
- the invention also relates to a joint of this type, which allows a saving of material compared to the joints of the prior art, and which is also simpler to manufacture.
- a profiled elastomer seal for tunnel segments or the like comprising two substantially parallel faces, one of which is intended to be applied to the bottom of a peripheral groove of the segment and the another is intended to be applied to the corresponding face of a similar joint of an adjacent segment, oblique flanks connecting the two faces together, and longitudinal channels formed inside the joint and delimited by longitudinal jambs of support on the bottom of the groove of the segment, characterized in that said other face of the joint has longitudinal undulations whose vertices are substantially in line with said longitudinal channels and whose hollows are substantially in line with the support legs.
- This characteristic of the joint according to the invention is favorable to sealing, in particular when the joints of two adjacent segments are not perfectly aligned and superimposed on each other, which very often happens in practice.
- the corrugations of a joint tend to engage by complementarity of form in the corrugations of the adjacent joint, the tops of the corrugations of a joint being received in the hollows of the corrugations of the other joint , which also makes it possible to avoid or at least reduce the tendency of one joint to slip relative to the other.
- the amplitude of said undulations is a small fraction of the height of the joint in cross section, typically of the order of 10% of this height, or less.
- the longitudinal legs extend between the two faces of the joint obliquely with respect to a median longitudinal plane of symmetry, perpendicular to the face of the applicable joint on the bottom of the groove of the segment.
- Two consecutive longitudinal jambs of the joint have substantially equal obliquities but in opposite directions relative to the plane of symmetry.
- the longitudinal legs forming the inclined sides of the joint converge from the face of the applicable joint on the bottom of the segment groove.
- This particular arrangement of the longitudinal legs of the joint ensures a substantially uniform behavior of the joint during its compression in the peripheral groove of the segment.
- the face of the seal applicable on the bottom of the groove of the segment forms a continuous sole connecting the abovementioned longitudinal legs of the seal to one another.
- This sole connecting the longitudinal legs prevents the latter from lying down during the compression of the joint, it closes the bubbles or cavities which may be formed in the bottom of the peripheral groove of the segment, which avoids the operations of taking up these grooves, and it increases the bonding surface of the joint in the groove and thus allows a better resistance of the joint to deformation and to extrusion or creep. under the combined effects of the compression forces of the joint, the pressure of the fluid and the stresses due to small positioning faults of the segments relative to each other.
- At least one of the sides of the joint comprises a sealing lip applicable on the corresponding side of the groove of the segment.
- This sealing lip is subjected to the pressure of the fluid in respect of which it is necessary to ensure sealing, and is applied by this pressure to the side of the groove of the segment, thereby reinforcing the sealing imparted by the seal.
- the segment 10 is made of concrete, but could also be metallic. Its rectangular or square outline has a trapezoidal-shaped peripheral groove, with a flat bottom 12 and inclined sides 14, in which is mounted a seal 16 profiled in elastomer having a flat face 18 which is applied and glued to the flat bottom. 12 of the groove of the segment, and a substantially parallel face 19 comprising longitudinal undulations, which is connected to the flat face 18 by inclined sides 20.
- These inclined flanks 20 comprise, on the side of the flat face 18 of the joint, a sealing lip 22 cooperating with the corresponding inclined flank 14 of the groove of the segment, this sealing lip 22 comprising an oblique face 24, connected to the flat face 18 of the seal and applicable on the side 14 of the groove, and a flat face 26, parallel to the flat face 18 of the seal and connected at the inclined flank 20 thereof.
- the angles of the sides 14 of the groove of the segment with a perpendicular to the flat bottom 12 of the groove are for example between 12 and 35 °.
- the longitudinal undulations of the other face 19 of the joint are rounded and have vertices 28 alternating with hollows 30, the vertices and hollows being for example formed by arcs of a circle, respectively convex and concave, interconnected by points d 'inflection.
- the amplitude of these longitudinal undulations is relatively small compared to the total height of the joint, and can vary for example between 5 and 15% of this total height.
- the seal according to the invention also comprises longitudinal channels 32, 34, some of which are in the shape of an arch with a rounded top located on the side of the corrugated face 19 of the seal and a flat base located on the side of the flat face 18 of the seal, and the other 34 of which are substantially triangular in shape with a concave rounded base situated on the side of the corrugated face 19 of the seal and with a vertex situated on the side of the opposite flat face of the seal.
- These longitudinal internal channels 32 and 34 have a relatively large height, greater than half the total height of the joint, (for example of the order of 60% of this total height) and are delimited by longitudinal legs 36, 38 which are oblique to the median longitudinal plane 40 which is a plane of symmetry of the joint, perpendicular to the flat face 18 of this joint.
- These longitudinal legs 36, 38 make the same angle in absolute value with this plane of symmetry 40 but this angle is reversed from one leg to the next leg.
- the two outer legs 36 whose outer faces define the sides 20 of the joint, converge from the flat face 18 of the joint, while the two intermediate legs 38 are divergent from this flat face 18, in the example shown .
- the legs 36, 38 are joined together by a sole 40 whose outer face forms the flat face 18 of the joint.
- This face 18 thus extends substantially continuously over the entire flat bottom 12 of the groove of the segment, except possibly at the angles connecting together two rectilinear joint sections.
- these angles can be molded from a hydro-swelling elastomer or having a lower hardness than that of the straight sections of joint. They may also have a smaller cross-sectional area than that of the joint sections.
- the rounded tops 28 of the undulations of the face 19 of the joint and the corresponding rounded ends of the channels 32, 34 have concordant positions, the tops 28 of the undulations being in line with the rounded ends of the channels 32, 34, while the hollows 30 of the corrugations are in line with the longitudinal legs 38.
- the formation of the hollows 30 of the undulations results in a saving of material which does not degrade the qualities of the joint, since these hollows 30 are formed substantially at the ends of the support legs 38, that is to say at the level of a relatively thick solid part of the joint.
- the seals 16 of their peripheral grooves are in contact with one another and are compressed inside these peripheral grooves.
- the tops of the corrugations of one come to lodge in the hollows of the corrugations of the other, which improves the sealing and prevents the sliding of a joint on the 'other.
- the sealing lips 26 provided on the sides of the seals also contribute to improving the general sealing.
- the joint according to the invention may comprise more than two channels 32 in the form of an arch and more than one channel 34 in the form of a triangle, the number of triangular channels 34 being one unit less than that of the channels 32 in the shape of an arch.

Description
The invention relates to a profiled elastomeric seal intended to be laid and fixed, in particular by gluing, in a peripheral groove of a tunnel segment or the like.
Large tunnels or shafts are generally formed of assembled elements called segments between which are interposed seals. The segments are segments of tube, having a rounded shape and a substantially rectangular or square outline comprising a peripheral groove in which a seal is mounted.
When the segments are assembled to form a tunnel or a well, their seals are in contact with one another and are compressed in the grooves, to form a seal with respect to a surrounding fluid and / or d 'a fluid contained in the well or tunnel thus formed.
The seals intended to be mounted in these grooves therefore generally comprise two parallel flat faces which are connected together by inclined sides, one of these faces being intended to be applied to the bottom of the peripheral groove of the segment , the inclined flanks being applied to the flanks of the groove of the segment, and the other face of the joint being intended to be applied to the corresponding face of a similar joint mounted in the peripheral groove of an adjacent segment. In addition, longitudinal grooves and / or channels are formed in the joint and constitute voids allowing the compression and the crushing of the joint in the peripheral groove of the segment when the segments are assembled to each other. A seal for this fate is known from European patent application EP-A-0 414 617
These joints cannot be dismantled after the assembly of the segments and must therefore satisfy a certain number of criteria in order to ensure as complete a seal as possible, over a very long period of time.
The subject of the invention is a seal meeting these criteria.
The invention also relates to a joint of this type, which allows a saving of material compared to the joints of the prior art, and which is also simpler to manufacture.
To this end, it proposes a profiled elastomer seal for tunnel segments or the like, comprising two substantially parallel faces, one of which is intended to be applied to the bottom of a peripheral groove of the segment and the another is intended to be applied to the corresponding face of a similar joint of an adjacent segment, oblique flanks connecting the two faces together, and longitudinal channels formed inside the joint and delimited by longitudinal jambs of support on the bottom of the groove of the segment, characterized in that said other face of the joint has longitudinal undulations whose vertices are substantially in line with said longitudinal channels and whose hollows are substantially in line with the support legs.
This characteristic of the joint according to the invention is favorable to sealing, in particular when the joints of two adjacent segments are not perfectly aligned and superimposed on each other, which very often happens in practice. Indeed, in this case, the corrugations of a joint tend to engage by complementarity of form in the corrugations of the adjacent joint, the tops of the corrugations of a joint being received in the hollows of the corrugations of the other joint , which also makes it possible to avoid or at least reduce the tendency of one joint to slip relative to the other.
In addition, the formation of these undulations on the face of the joint results in a saving of material, corresponding to the hollows of the corrugations, which results in a reduction in the cost of the joint.
The amplitude of said undulations is a small fraction of the height of the joint in cross section, typically of the order of 10% of this height, or less.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the longitudinal legs extend between the two faces of the joint obliquely with respect to a median longitudinal plane of symmetry, perpendicular to the face of the applicable joint on the bottom of the groove of the segment.
Two consecutive longitudinal jambs of the joint have substantially equal obliquities but in opposite directions relative to the plane of symmetry.
The longitudinal legs forming the inclined sides of the joint converge from the face of the applicable joint on the bottom of the segment groove.
This particular arrangement of the longitudinal legs of the joint ensures a substantially uniform behavior of the joint during its compression in the peripheral groove of the segment.
According to yet another characteristic of the invention, the face of the seal applicable on the bottom of the groove of the segment forms a continuous sole connecting the abovementioned longitudinal legs of the seal to one another.
This characteristic greatly improves the qualities of the joint.
This sole connecting the longitudinal legs prevents the latter from lying down during the compression of the joint, it closes the bubbles or cavities which may be formed in the bottom of the peripheral groove of the segment, which avoids the operations of taking up these grooves, and it increases the bonding surface of the joint in the groove and thus allows a better resistance of the joint to deformation and to extrusion or creep. under the combined effects of the compression forces of the joint, the pressure of the fluid and the stresses due to small positioning faults of the segments relative to each other.
According to yet another characteristic of the invention, at least one of the sides of the joint comprises a sealing lip applicable on the corresponding side of the groove of the segment.
This sealing lip is subjected to the pressure of the fluid in respect of which it is necessary to ensure sealing, and is applied by this pressure to the side of the groove of the segment, thereby reinforcing the sealing imparted by the seal.
Other characteristics, details and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly on reading the description which follows, given by way of example with reference to the appended drawing, in which the single figure is a cross-sectional view of a seal according to the invention, mounted in a peripheral groove of a segment.
The segment 10, shown in the drawing, is made of concrete, but could also be metallic. Its rectangular or square outline has a trapezoidal-shaped peripheral groove, with a
The longitudinal undulations of the
The seal according to the invention also comprises
These longitudinal
This arrangement and the presence of the
The
In known manner, these angles can be molded from a hydro-swelling elastomer or having a lower hardness than that of the straight sections of joint. They may also have a smaller cross-sectional area than that of the joint sections.
In the joint according to the invention, the
When segments are assembled together, the
Of course, the joint according to the invention may comprise more than two
