Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a sea anchor release device used to unhook an anchor hung on the bottom and allow it to be lifted.
  • a device of this type is connected, on one side, to the end of a main anchor chain moored to a boat and, on the other side, to a shackle provided at the free end of the rod of an anchor.
  • a rope also connects said device to the diamond of the anchor.
  • the main chain is connected, via said device, to the boat, which allows it to be kept in place.
  • These devices include a system which is controlled either by a cable or by a tube which can run along the main chain, and which makes it possible to secure the shackle of the device. The rope is then alone connected to the main chain and, by raising the anchor, the diamond is pulled from the anchor, which allows it to be easily released from the bottom and therefore to be raised.
  • the object of the invention is therefore to provide a device for detaching an anchor which is simple in structure, therefore inexpensive to manufacture, and which gives complete satisfaction as regards operation.
  • a release device consists of an elongated plate, one end of which is provided for receiving the last link of said main chain and the other end of which is provided with a through light and located in the axis of said plate, of a second plate superimposed on the first plate and intended to pivot relative to said first plate about an axis normal to said plates, said second plate comprising a finger which, in a first relative position of the two plates, covers an end portion of said lumen thus allowing the attachment of a shackle provided at the free end of the rod of the anchor and which, in a second relative position, uncovers said end allowing the unhooking of said shackle. It also comprises a return spring and a stop intended to keep said plates at rest in said first position.
  • Said second plate has, on the one hand, a first lateral edge which, in said first position, protrudes beyond the corresponding lateral edge of the first plate while being inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of said device, and which, in said second position is located above said first plate, and, on the other hand, the second lateral edge which is always above the first plate.
  • the first lateral edge of said second plate is brought closer to the opposite edge of said first plate by means of a tube launched from the boat and running freely on the main chain, said tube having its internal diameter substantially equal to the distance between the first edge of the second plate and the opposite edge of said first plate when said device is in said second position.
  • the tube By launching the tube on the device, it is fitted on the release device, which has the result of rotating the two plates relative to each other. The finger then releases the light and thus releases the anchor chain. The anchor can then be raised by means of the rope.
  • the manufacturing of the device of the invention is relatively simple since it is built around two easy-to-shape plates.
  • said first plate comprises, in its lower part where the lumen is located, two lateral wings whose upper edges form stops for the tube when the latter is fitted into said device.
  • the distance between the first lateral edge of the second plate and the corresponding edge of the first plate is greater, at the level of said stops, than the width of said lumen.
  • said device comprises a third plate behind the first plate and symmetrical with respect to the axis of the device.
  • a boat 1 which has dropped its anchor 2.
  • This one which can be of any type, is hung on the bottom by at least one of its arms 3.
  • From the boat leaves an anchor chain main 4 whose free end is connected to a first end of a release device 5.
  • the other end of the device 5 is connected to a shackle 6 provided at the free end of the rod 7 of the anchor 2.
  • a rope 8 connects the device 5 to the diamond 9 of the anchor 2.
  • the release device 5 shown in FIG. 1 is shown in detail in FIG. 2. It comprises a first elongated plate 10 of substantially triangular shape with a rounded top and an enlarged base to form a part with two wings 11 and 12 and in an arc. At the top of the triangle, a hole 13 is drilled for the passage of the last link of the main chain 4 (Fig. 1). On the wing 11 of the lower part of the plate 10, a hole 14 is drilled where the free end of the rope 8 is attached (Fig. 1). Significantly in the axis of the device 5 formed by the height at the base of the triangle of the first plate 10 and in its enlarged part, there is provided a light opening downwards.
  • the device 5 also includes a second plate 16 superimposed on the first and of substantially triangular shape with a rounded apex and at the base in an arc.
  • a curved finger 17 which forms a recess 18 substantially perpendicular to the axis of the lumen 15 and of width substantially equal to the width of the latter.
  • the top of the second plate is pierced with a hole provided for receiving an axis 19 normal to the surface of the second plate 16.
  • the first plate 10 is also pierced with a hole which is provided for receiving the same axis 19. That -this, for example, consists of a bolt, a rivet, a pin or any other equivalent means. It may comprise, at each of its ends, two heads (not shown) forming axial stops for each of the plates 10 and 16. Each plate 10, 16 can thus pivot relative to each other about the axis 19.
  • the position of the holes receiving the axis 19 in each of the plates 10, 16 and the dimension of these plates 10 and 16 are such that, in a first relative position of the two plates 10 and 16, the end of the finger 17 can cover the end of the lumen 15 while being perpendicular to it (as shown in Fig. 1) and leaving a free passage for the attachment of the shackle 6 (Fig. 1) and, in a second relative position, so that the end of the finger 17 can discover the end of the lumen 15 (see Fig. 4) by allowing the release of the shackle 6.
  • a stop 20 for example, formed of a rod normally mounted on the surface of the first plate 10 and an oblong hole 21 in the second plate 16 provided for receiving said stop 20.
  • the finger 17 When the rod 20 is in abutment at a first end of the oblong hole 21, the finger 17 completely covers the end of the lumen 15 and, when it is abutted at the at the other end of the hole 21, the finger 17 completely uncovers the end of the lumen 15.
  • a return spring 22 is provided so that, at rest, the plates 10 and 16 are positioned relative to one another, in a first position, called closing, in which the finger 17 completely covers the end of the light 15.
  • the spring 22 is constituted, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 2, by a flexible rod, one ring end of which surrounds the axis 19 and is in abutment, on one of its sides, against the rod 20 of the first plate 10 and, on the other side, on a stop 23 provided on the second plate 16.
  • the lateral edge 24, finger side 17, of the second plate 16 is substantially parallel to the corresponding edge 25 of the first plate 10 and that it is inside the first plate 10.
  • the lateral edge 25 of the second plate 16 side opposite to the finger 17, it is located beyond the corresponding lateral edge 27 of the first plate 10. It then forms, at rest, a part 28 of the second plate 16 which is not on the first plate 10.
  • a tube 29 is launched from the boat 1 which runs freely on the main chain 4 (FIG. 3a). By its own weight, it is forcefully fitted into the release device 5 (Fig. 3b) which, by action, on the one hand, on the inclined edge 26 of the second plate 16 and on the lateral edge 25 opposite of the first plate 10, allows the pivoting of one plate 10 or 16 relative to the other 16 or 10.
  • the tube 29 has come into abutment against the upper edges 30 and 31 of the lower part of the first plate 10 (Fig. 4)
  • finger 17 no longer covers the end of the lumen 15, thereby releasing the anchor chain 6 (Fig. 3b).
  • the tube 29 can be seen fitted into the release device 5. It can be seen that the internal diameter of the tube 29 must, for correct operation of the device 5, have an internal diameter substantially equal to the distance between the two lateral edges 25 and 27 of the first plate 10 at the upper edges 30 and 31 of the wings 11 and 12, when the device 5 is in its open position.
  • the distance between the inclined edge 26 of the second plate 16 and the corresponding edge 27 of the first plate 10 at the upper surface of the stop 30 must be, in the closed position (FIG. 2) of the device, greater than the width of the lumen 15.
  • the tube 29 when it is fitted into the device 5 allows complete clearance, by the finger 17, of the lumen 15.
  • the tube 29 must be of sufficient mass so that the kinetic energy which it acquires by running along the main chain 4 can rotate the two plates one by compared to each other when stopped on the device.
  • This mass can be between 1 and 3 Kg.
  • Fig. 5 is an alternative embodiment in which the spring 22 ′ consists of a pin bypassing (by the right in FIG. 5) the axis 19 and pressing, on the one hand, against a stop 23 formed on the second plate 10 and, on the other hand, against the rod 19 secured to the first plate 10.
  • Fig. 6 shows a second alternative embodiment in which a third plate 16 ′ identical to the second plate 16 is placed symmetrically with respect to the main vertical axis of the device 5 and this behind the first plate 10.
  • a return spring 22 ′ is also provided to return the third plate 16 ′ to its rest position.
  • the operation of this alternative embodiment is the same as that which has been previously described in relation to the device 5 of FIG. 2. Its advantage over this lies in its greater resistance to opening during pulls on the main chain 4.
  • the elements of the third plate 16 ′ have the same reference as the same elements of the second plate 16, but they are assigned a premium.
