Abstract

PCT No. PCT/CH91/00202 Sec. 371 Date May 27, 1992 Sec. 102(e) Date May 27, 1992 PCT Filed Sep. 24, 1991 PCT Pub. No. WO92/06247 PCT Pub. Date Apr. 16, 1992.A parking prevention means comprises a housing (1) containing a power supply, a controller signal receiver unit, said signals controlling a motor coupled to a shaft (8) bearing a movable part (2) which the motor moves from a substantially horizontal position to a substantially vertical position and vice-versa. The movable part comprises one or more legs (3) which are substantially nondeformable and also includes means enabling the shaft to impart its rotational movement to the movable part, whereas rotation of the movable part caused by an external force does not result in associated rotation of the shaft.

Description

The present invention relates to a parking prohibition device.

The reservation of a parking space for a motor vehicle is a subject which has already given rise to numerous proposals. These proposals can be distinguished according to two main criteria.

The first criterion relates to the remote control of the device. Indeed, some devices assume manual intervention by the user, while others provide on the contrary a remote control means.

The second criterion concerns the signaling effect or the physical opposition effect.

For the most part, the proposed systems are content to indicate, as clearly as possible, that the driver looking for a place is asked to look for it elsewhere. If the impatient motorist decides to violate the signal, the constituent characteristics of the devices concerned aim above all to ensure that the device survives the violation.

The other group is obviously made up of devices designed to be as physically inviolable as possible.

In the case of devices offering a certain physical resistance, the question to be resolved is mainly to prevent a violation from causing a deterioration of the unlocking mechanism. In fact, when this is the case, the system prohibits access to the square for both third parties and their legitimate claimants.

For devices providing remote control and physical resistance, a second problem arises: the protection of essential electronic elements, as well only supply batteries, if provided. Indeed, electronics and power are confined in the device housing, which, in general, reduces the resistance to crushing, especially if the wheel of a pickup truck or a truck passes over the device.

Finally, according to the philosophy adopted, with or without remote control, the known devices aim either to prevent any cost at all costs, or to preserve the device as much as possible if a violation takes place. The former risk destruction or deterioration, the latter have a purely psychological deterrent effect, which diminishes over time and the experience of offenders.

As an illustration of the devices proposed, mention may be made, for example, of the French patent published under No. 2,124,197 and the Belgian patent No. 904,603 with regard to pure signaling devices. Swiss Patent No. 664 587 illustrates a remote control signaling device provided with means for preserving the device in the event of violation. Finally, Canadian Patent No. 1,177,299 shows manual action devices having means for absorbing involuntary shocks.

This list is not intended to be exhaustive but simply representative of the various types of known proposals.

In general, it can be remembered that, if they are designed to survive a violation, the known systems work to dodge a charge by the offending vehicle and this both when the vehicle enters the reserved space and when he leaves it. As a result, the perpetrators have little fear of their behavior, the organs of the prohibition devices being designed not to damage them. This is particularly true when leaving the vehicle, when real resistance from the prohibition device could lead to a lifting effect to which the known devices do not resist.

The object of the present invention is to propose a device making it possible to largely remedy the drawbacks mentioned above.

A cet effet, il est proposé un dispositif d'interdiction de parcage selon la revendication 1.To this end, a parking prohibition device according to claim 1 is proposed.

The parking prohibition device comprises a box containing supply means, a member for receiving control signals, which actuate a motor coupled to a shaft carrying a movable part which the action of the motor causes to pass from a position substantially horizontal to a substantially vertical position and vice versa. In addition, the device comprises means authorizing the forced lowering of the movable part in the event of a violation and ensuring its return to the vertical position, these means being shaped so that the movable part acts like a crutch lifting the offending vehicle during its removal, without resulting in damage to the device.

As shown in Figures 1 and 7, the device consists of a housing 1 made of a resistant material. Inside the housing take place a control member capable of receiving signals 21. This control member starts a motor 22 whose axis 23 is coupled to a cam 24 which actuates a connecting rod 25 connected to a shaft 8 by means of a second cam 26. The shaft rests in orifices made in the walls of the housing and protrudes from it on either side. On the sections of the shaft 27 which protrude from the housing are arranged sleeves 4 in the form of caps on which are fixed in turn the legs 3 which constitute the base of the movable part 2 of the device. In its normal use, ie without violation, the remote control 21 activates the motor 22 which rotates the shaft 8 on itself until a preferential position of stable equilibrium determined by the cam 24 of the motor axis 23 , the movable part 2 of the device then being placed in a vertical position. A spring 28 maintains the connecting rod 25 in this preferred position. When the owner of the parking space provided with the device returns to park his vehicle there, he actuates the remote control again and the motor, acting on the shaft, brings the movable part back to a horizontal position.

If a violation takes place, the offending vehicle prints a tensile force on the moving part of the device. to return it to its horizontal position. Due to the stable equilibrium position described, the shaft cannot turn on itself and allow this movement. The movement of withdrawal of the mobile part certainly takes place, but thanks to an arrangement allowing one or more springs, housed in the legs of the mobile part, to absorb the stroke of the mobile part. The mobile part thus disappears under the progression of the vehicle, but the top of the mobile part bears against the underside of the vehicle with all the force of the spring (s). As a result, when the offending vehicle begins its attempt to withdraw, the movable part pivots along the axis of the shaft and constitutes a stand capable of lifting the vehicle. The device thus has an appreciable advantage in ordering the contravening vehicle to remain on site on pain of being damaged. The device, by the constructive measures which are specific to it and which are detailed below, perfectly supports this treatment without any damage. The originality of the device results from the fact that the means used to raise and lower the movable part without violation, are in no way affected in the event of violation, the movement of withdrawal of the movable part being then entirely taken care of by other means.

In Figure 1, we can see the housing 1, which has a mechanism for lifting the movable part 2. The legs 3 of the movable part are anchored on the shaft, not visible in this figure, by means of sleeves 4. The movable part 2 is here shown in its active position and can be folded around the housing until it is parallel to the upper surface thereof. There is also an orifice 5 formed in the sleeve 4. This orifice is located in the extension of the shaft.

Figure 1 shows the device as seen from the front if one is in front of the parking space concerned. It is thus realized that a vehicle violating the access would press on the mobile part 2 until it almost completely folds it down.

When, thus engaged in the parking space, the offender will reverse to withdraw, the top of the movable part, which is kept in contact with the underside of the vehicle thanks to the springs described in Figures 3 to 5, is in position to act as a lever. All the force that results from this resistance is transmitted to the shaft along its axis thanks to the mechanisms illustrated in Figures 3 to 5.

The lateral forestay, which is shown here in partial section to show its particular features in situ, has a recess in the form of a crown, the shape of which constitutes substantially the imprint of the sleeve 4. In fact, and this is important, a protuberance 5 'corresponds exactly to the orifice 5 already described. As this orifice is an extension of the shaft, the shaft has an external support which shares the loads to which it is subjected, thus helping to transmit these forces to the ground on a wider base than the single housing. It is also planned to provide the device with a forestay different from that illustrated in FIG. 2. In this case, the forestay simply follows the outside contour of the sleeve 4, on its lower half, like a simple stirrup.

Figure 3 allows to observe an arrangement for transmitting the force resulting from a violation along the axis of the shaft, so as to allow the transmission of said forces to the ground without any internal mechanical effort. We recognize the sleeve 4 inside which a cavity houses a passage for a belt 10 made of flexible material, but very resistant and non-stretchable, such as Kevlar or fiberglass mat. The belt 10 is in the form of a strip, the middle part of which is fixed to the shaft 8 by a screw 9 and the ends of which are trapped between two clamping jaws 11 connected by clamping screws 12. The jaws 11 have a margin support on which springs abut 13. Whether the moving part is pressed forwards or backwards, the opposing force generated by the extension of one spring and the crushing of the other is transmitted axially to the shaft. As the shaft cannot pivot on itself due to the position of maximum travel of the cam which controls it, the sleeve 4 pivots around the shaft, meeting only the relative resistance of the two springs. The opposite play of the springs allows the movable part to return to its neutral vertical position without this involving any movement of the shaft, therefore of the drive mechanics of the device.

In Figure 4, we see a second variant of an arrangement allowing a transmission of external forces along the axis of the tree. This time, a single spring 13 'is used, which offers the possibility of giving it a greater range of travel. The same components are recognized as in FIG. 3. In addition, this arrangement includes a fixing ring 16 provided with grooves 14 intended to collaborate with lugs 15 arranged on the jaws 11 which fix the ends of the belt 10 between them. Indeed, during assembly of the device, the lugs 15 are made to slide in the grooves 14 until the lugs 15 are flush above the upper surface of the ring 16. At this time, the ring is pivoted, respectively jaws, a quarter turn so that the pins are located opposite the teeth 17 and penetrate therein. The spring being thus armed, the lugs can no longer come out of the slots under the contradictory action of the belt and the spring.

Figure 5, very schematic, shows that an effect similar to that described in connection with Figures 3 and 4 can be obtained inside the housing by ensuring the connection between the cam of the shaft and the shaft by means of a spring, one end of which is secured to the shaft and the other of the shaft cam which is connected to a connecting rod fixed at its other end to the cam of the motor shaft. In this case, during a violation, there is rotation of the shaft, but without this being passed on to the driving mechanics, the movement of the shaft being absorbed by the spring.

Tests carried out with vehicles of various models show that, produced according to one of the variants shown in Figures 3 to 5, the device is capable of lifting one of the axles of the offending vehicle without undergoing the slightest deterioration, this thanks to a transmission of forces along the axis of the tree. All the forces resulting from an attempt to remove the offending vehicle are transmitted to the ground without any twisting effect endangering the functional structure of the device. The transmission of said forces to the ground is further facilitated by the action of the lateral stays. The variant illustrated in Figure 4 can be considered preferential.

Figure 6 shows an energy block which is presented here as a cube in which the usual commercial batteries 18 are housed. It should be clear that the represented form of the energy block is purely indicative. The material used for the production of the cubic envelope which accommodates the batteries will be chosen with non-conductive properties, but above all with a resistance to compression. Indeed, as the energy block is placed in the center of the box, it participates very actively in the crushing resistance of the latter. The dimensions of the envelope are chosen so that the batteries have a small margin of freedom, so that a slight deformation of the envelope does not destroy the batteries.

In FIG. 6, the face of the cube presented is the lower face when the energy block is placed in the housing. The housing, which is best seen in Figure 7, has at its center a housing 30 for receiving the energy unit. This accommodation constitutes in a way the energy block footprint. The face illustrated in the drawing in FIG. 6 will therefore be turned towards the ground. Assuming that an external power supply is possible, it goes without saying that the energy unit can be replaced by a power supply converting the current. Care will then be taken to ensure that the food container exercises the same central support function as that of the energy block described. One recognizes four batteries 18, brought into contact in series by means of the contact blades 19 arranged on the internal face of the cubic envelope. Particular emphasis should be placed on the fact that the contact blades are located, as the drawing indicates, on the internal face of the cubic envelope. This has the consequence that once the energy block is placed in the housing, the contact blades are not only separated from the inner bottom surface of the housing but are separated from it by an interval at least equal to the thickness of the 'envelope. The purpose of this withdrawal of the contact blades is to eliminate the risk of short circuit which would arise from the presence of deposits or of liquid at the bottom of the housing, resulting for example from condensation. In this way, the elements contributing to the contact of the batteries with each other or with the terminals provided for the housing are neither in contact with the internal underside of the housing, nor even located in the immediate vicinity of this surface.

Finally, there is a housing 20, configured so as to collaborate with a corresponding male part 29 present on the inner underside of the housing as seen in FIG. 7. The purpose of the male 29 female 20 coupling is to render possible only one way to set up the energy block, precisely that which makes it possible to agree with the contact blades that comprise the upper part of the housing.

The upper face of the energy block is quite similar to the lower face that can be seen in FIG. 6, except that there are neither contact blades 18, nor housing 20.

The advantages of the device according to the invention are to offer a parking prohibition device which not only signals but opposes any attempted violation, not when the vehicle is engaged, but when it is withdrawn. Of course, these advantages are obtained without deterioration of the device, even with an angle of attack perpendicular to the device, or in profile, which is not usual. As a corollary, since trapped vehicles cannot withdraw normally, the device is called upon to have to resist the weight of the vehicle transmitted by one of its wheels on the upper surface of the housing. Here again the device according to the invention shows robustness, by presenting an increased resistance in the center of the case even when this place conceals the cells or batteries which, they, can in no way participate in the effort under penalty of being severely deteriorated or even destroyed.
