Description

The invention relates to a cylinder head for internal combustion engines with hanging valves and bearings for two overhead camshafts which are fastened with bearing brackets and with bracket bolts, two first oil passages running continuously parallel to and below the camshafts being provided for lubricating the camshaft bearings , which are connected to each other by a bore running normal to these, this bore in turn being connected to the oil pump by means of a feed bore running parallel to the bracket bolts.

Cylinder heads of this type are described in U.S. Patent 4,621,597. The oil feeds to the camshaft bearings, starting from cast first oil channels, are always drilled, whereby the bores are usually disproportionately long compared to their diameter and are also at an angle to the main machining directions. This makes the production of these holes difficult and extremely complex.

These disadvantages also occur in GB-PS 2 130 672, which shows a system for lubricating the camshaft bearings, which, in addition to drilling parallel to the bracket bolts and unreasonably long oil feeds compared to the diameter, also provides bores that run obliquely to the main machining directions.

The invention has for its object to avoid these disadvantages and in particular to create the shortest possible connection bores lying in the main machining directions. According to the invention, this is done in that cast second oil channels branch off from the cast first oil channels, which lead to the sliding surfaces of the valve lifters, and parallel bores are provided to the bracket bolts, which connect the cast second oil channels with the lubrication grooves of the bearings of the camshafts. The cast second oil channels are designed so that the connection bores parallel to the bearing screws to the lubrication grooves can be made as short as possible.

In a further embodiment of the invention, the connecting bore of the two cast oil channels and the feed bore running parallel to the bracket bolts can be arranged at the rear end of the internal combustion engine, which is structurally simple to solve and also enables the necessary closure members for the bores to be attached.

In a further embodiment of the invention, grooves can advantageously be provided in the bearing brackets of the camshaft bearings for supplying the lubricating oil to the camshaft bearings from the outlet from the bores running parallel to the bracket bolts. This saves the drilling of additional holes.

The short bores according to the invention between the lubrication grooves and the second oil channels allow larger measurement tolerances of the lubrication grooves in the bearing brackets, so that in a further embodiment of the invention the grooves, in particular annular grooves, can be cast in the bearing brackets of the camshaft bearings. Mechanical machining of the lubrication grooves can thus be avoided.

The cylinder head according to the invention, generally designated 1, has four valves, two intake valves 2 and two exhaust valves 3, which are actuated by two overhead camshafts 4 and 5 via tappets 6 and 7, respectively. The camshafts 4 and 5 are mounted on the cylinder head 1; these bearings are designated 8 and 9 respectively. A bearing bracket 10 common to both camshafts 4 and 5 is fastened to the cylinder head 1 with three bracket bolts 11.

The cup tappets 6 and 7 and the camshaft bearings 8 and 9 are lubricated via cast oil channels 12 and 13 which run parallel to the camshafts 4 and 5 and which in turn are connected to one another by the transverse bore 14 provided at the rear end. The bore 15, which runs parallel to the bracket bolts 11 and which is fed by an oil pump, not shown, opens into the transverse bore 14.

Further also cast oil channels 16 and 17 are provided, which are cast together with the oil channels 12 and 13, respectively. These oil channels 16 and 17 serve to lubricate the tappets 6 and 7 and open for this purpose in their bearing surfaces 6 'and 7'. To lubricate the camshaft bearings 8 and 9, a bore 18 is provided which runs parallel to the bracket bolts and which opens into the upper flat end surface 19 of the cylinder head 1 and from there via lubricating grooves 20, 21 and 22 in the bracket 10 to the bearings 8 and 9 Guide camshafts 4 and 5. The supply of the lubricating oil to the bearing 9 of the camshaft 5 takes place from the bearing 8 of the camshaft 4 via the annular lubricating groove 21 provided in the bearing bracket 10, which can be incorporated but also cast in.

The space on the upper flat end face 19 of the cylinder head 1 with the camshafts 4 and 5 and their bearings 8 and 9 is sealed with a cover 23, for which purpose it is provided with the seal 24 and can be screwed onto the cylinder head 1 by means of the screws 25 .
