Abstract

The profiled sealing strip is formed essentially of a sealing lip (4), a root region (9) and a foot (10) and has two limbs (13, 14). These limbs are at right angles to one another and are connected to the sealing lip (4) and a foot (10) via constrictions (15, 17), so that they can be twisted when subjected to force. Their common joint forms a sealing point (22) which is situated at the same level as a sealing point (12c) which is formed by a rib (12) disposed in the root region (9). The sides (20, 21) of the two limbs (13, 14) together with the root region (9) bound a hollow space (18). The side (19) formed by the root region (9) is shaped in such a way that when a force acts on the sealing point (22) of the two limbs, said side is displaced approximately horizontally towards the root region (9). It therefore remains within a narrow region (23) containing the two sealing points (12c, 22). By making cuts above and below this region, the profiled sealing strip can thus bend through 90 DEG at the corners of the window, there nevertheless being no interruption in the two sealing points (12c, 22) so that they ensure continuous sealing even around such a bending. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a sealing profile strip made of elastic material, with at least one sealing lip, a root area from which the sealing lip springs and which forms a first sealing point formed as a rib, further with a foot and two legs, which are at least approximately at right angles to one another, on their common connection point form a further sealing point and are connected by means of constrictions to the remaining cross section of the sealing profile strip.

Windows for buildings usually consist of several, usually two or three adjacent window panes (double or triple glazing), a frame enclosing these panes and an intermediate sealing profile strip, which surrounds the panes on all sides and creates the seal between them and the frame. In order for this bar to be able to fulfill its task, it must lie exactly on the panes. However, since it has a relatively complicated cross-section, problems arise in the corners of the panes because the sealing profile strip, which is usually produced as an endless profile by extrusion, cannot simply be bent around these corners. The expansion of the radially outer zones and the compression of the radially inner zones would cause it to warp and thus lose its sealing effect. One therefore makes use of either ends cut exactly at 45 ° to the longitudinal axis, which are then vulcanized together at right angles to one another, or by producing special corner pieces. However, their production is relatively expensive.

In addition, there is the fact that there are quite large tolerances in the manufacture of the disks. These cause a further complication because now the sealing profile pieces individually, i.e. exactly to the side dimensions of each pane, cut off from the endless profile and assembled to form a sealing frame exactly on this pane. This adjustment can still be carried out with reasonable effort. Mostly, however, each pane is first assembled in place in the sealing frame assigned to it. The pane, sealing frame and frame are therefore delivered separately. Despite the ingenious numbering of these parts, it cannot be avoided that a great deal of time has to be spent finding out the parts that belong together from the numerous programs and bringing them together.

This assembly process could be considerably simplified if it were possible to manufacture the sealing frame by simply laying the sealing profile strip around the entire circumference of the pane, in which case the strip could be unwound from a roll. The elaborate determination of the exact length and width of each disc could thus be omitted. However, this means that, for the reasons mentioned at the beginning, the cross section of the bar must be designed in such a way that there is no warping in the critical corner areas and therefore no loss of sealing effect.

However, it is clear that the above-mentioned laying around cannot be carried out without additional measures, because no profile is able to be pulled around a right-angled corner and yet fits snugly in the areas immediately adjacent to it. Therefore, cuts have to be made there in the bar to enable it to be folded around the corner. However, these cuts should be able to be made in the simplest possible way, that is to say with simple means that can also be used directly on the assembly site without any problems.

The object of the invention is therefore to provide a sealing profile strip of such a cross section that it can be cut at the locations provided for this purpose, but that the areas of this cross section which are decisive for the sealing effect are retained throughout despite the bending of the sealing profile strip by 90 °.

Such a sealing profile strip is characterized according to the invention by the features of claim 1.

The sealing profile strip according to the invention will be explained in more detail using an introductory example shown in the drawings; show it:

In Figure 1, the bar is shown in its undeformed state. For better understanding, a window frame 1 and the glass pane 2 to be sealed are also shown. The strip must be pressed into the gap 3 in between, where it deforms accordingly. It should be noted that the width of the joint 3, that is to say the distance between the pane 2 and the frame 1, can vary considerably as a result of tolerances in the manufacture, specifically from window to window.

The cross section of the sealing profile strip shows a first sealing lip 4, the tip 5 of which bears against the pane 2. Because it has to be relatively long because of the widely varying width of the joint 3 and is therefore too elastic for application under pressure, a mushroom-shaped head 6 is provided which is formed from two sealing lips 7, 8 located opposite one another. The first sealing lip 4 can bear against the sealing lip 7 and is supported thereby. The force transmitted to the head 6 in this way is determined by the other sealing lip 8, which is supported on the frame 1. This construction is known from the past.

Ihre Spitze 12c bildet eine Dichtungsstelle zum Rahmen 1.Sealing lip 4 and head 6 have a common root area 9, which is very wide and therefore strong. At its lower end there is a foot 10, which is curved towards the pane 2 and, like the first sealing lip 4, also bears with its tip 11 against the pane 2 in the deformed state in order to achieve a further sealing effect. The root region 9 is provided on its outer side with a protruding rib 12, which is also shown in the other figures with its upper edge 12a and lower edge 12b for reasons that can still be seen. Its tip 12c forms a sealing point with the frame 1.

What is essential is the formation of the cross section next to the root area 9. There are two legs 13, 14 arranged at right angles to one another. The longer leg 13 is connected to the foot 10, the shorter leg 14 to the first sealing lip 4. It should be noted that this connection point and also the connection point of the two legs 13, 14 are made thinner than the two legs themselves, which is brought about by indentations 15, 16, 17. The purpose of these indentations is to form so-called predetermined bending points, so that the legs can bend exactly there and not anywhere along their course in a manner yet to be explained.

The legs 13 and 14, together with the root region 9, delimit a cavity 18 which, although only having three sides, resembles a parallelogram in shape. It is important that the largest of the three sides, which leads from the indentation along the root area 9 and is designated 19, is shorter in the non-deformed state than the two sides 20, 21 of the legs 13, 14 together. This is brought about by a course of page 19, in which neither the longer section 19a parallel to page 21 nor section 19b parallel to Page 20 runs. The two sections 19a, 19b are connected to one another by an arc piece 19c. This arc piece 19c is essential; the two sections 19a, 19b must not be connected to one another in a straight line. In addition, the width of the root region 9 is thereby only insignificantly reduced, which would not be the case if the cavity 18 were exactly parallelogram-shaped.

Before the operation of the sealing profile strip is explained, it must also be mentioned that the two legs 13, 14 form a type of rib 22 at their connection point, which like the rib 12 also forms a sealing point, but which bears against the pane 2. As can be seen, it forms at approximately the same height as the tip 12c of the rib 12, which acts as a sealing point. This condition has an influence on the position and arrangement of the two legs 13, 14.

It is now assumed that the sealing profile strip is used once for a window in which the joint 3 is very wide. The deformation of the bar when it is inserted is therefore slight. The situation is different if the same strip has to be pressed into a very narrow joint 3. The two legs 13, 14 are brought out of their right-angled position into a more extended position, ie the angle of originally 90 ° becomes larger. Thanks to the indentations 15, 16 and 17 which act as articulation points, this is readily possible. Even in the event of severe deformation, the shorter leg 14 remains straight, while the longer leg 13 begins to curve, specifically towards the cavity 18. Because the sealing lip 4 resting on the disk 2 is also stretched and thereby comes into a steeper position, the indentation 15 in particular moves obliquely upwards, while the indentation 17 moves very slightly downwards. Mainly due to the movement of the indentation 15, the leg 13 is also pulled obliquely upwards, while the leg 14 practically only pivots about the indentation 17. However, since the leg 13 is shorter than the leg 14, these movements result in the connection of the two Leg and thus the sealing point 22 moves practically horizontally against the sealing point 12, ie remains at the same height. The shape of the side 19 of the root area 9 also contributes to this. The section 19a can be regarded as a continuation of the underside of the sealing lip 4. When the sides 19 are stretched as a result of the movement, it is achieved that the movement of the constriction 15 takes place in a precisely controlled manner both in the direction and to the extent in order to achieve the horizontal displacement of the sealing point 22. Now it is also clear why page 19 must be shorter than pages 20 and 21 combined; if it were shaped in such a way that the cavity would be exactly parallelogram-shaped, the resulting weakening of the root region 9 would result in a different movement of the sealing lips 4 and thus the constriction 15. Incidentally, the cavity can disappear almost completely when subjected to extreme forces.

Due to its horizontal movement, the sealing point 22 always remains within a hatched area 23 with a dashed border, which can also be referred to as a neutral zone in view of the bend to be mentioned and its position approximately in the middle of the cross section. Any other shape of the cavity 18 would have the consequence that the sealing point 22 would move up or down and thus leave this narrowly defined area 23. As can be seen, the region 23 forms approximately in the middle of the entire cross section.

This is of crucial importance when bending the sealing profile strip at the corners of the pane 2 or the frame 1, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. To make this bending possible, two cuts are made. The upper cut 24 is made V-shaped, specifically in such a way that the two cut surfaces 24a, 24b are exactly at 90 ° to each other. Each cut surface is therefore at 45 ° to the longitudinal axis of the bar. The lower cut is made as a narrow groove 25. Both cuts are made so deep that they reach the top or reach the lower edge of the area or the neutral zone 23. Now the bar can be bent by 90 ° according to Figure 3. The two cut surfaces of the upper cut come to lie on one another, while the groove 25, as indicated by the arrow in FIG. 3, is widened to a right-angled corner. However, the neutral zone 23 is maintained throughout and thus also the sealing effect at the sealing points 12 c and 22. Because the sealing point 22 moves almost horizontally, as mentioned, the zone 23 can be kept very narrow. This makes it possible to lay the cuts 24 and 25 very deep, which not only facilitates bending over, but also leads to the sealing profile strip fitting snugly against the frame 1 and the pane 2 even in the areas immediately adjacent to the cuts. This sealing profile strip can therefore be used from a roll; special measures for forming corners, such as vulcanizing the cut pieces of the bar or procuring special corner pieces, are therefore no longer necessary.
