Abstract

The awning comprises a canopy for protecting the wound fabric and is of the type comprising, on the one hand, a stationary carrier structure (1) for a fabric-carrying roller (16) and articulated arms (6) and, on the other hand, a fabric (8) which is fixed by one of its ends to the fabric-carrying roller (16) and by the other of its ends to a load bar (7) which is fixed to the end of articulated arms (6) so that the fabric (8) can be wound over the fabric-carrying roller (16) or unwound from the latter, in order to be extended in a plane which is inclined to a greater or lesser extent. It is characterised in that it comprises an awning, separate and independent from the carrier structure (1), which is extended from the rear portion of the roller (16), and on top of this roller (16), in a front plane (21) limited by one edge overhanging at least as far in front of the roller (16) as is the load bar (7) when the fabric (8) is in the wound position, means being provided for locking the canopy in a position which is advantageously adjustable in relation to the stationary carrier structure (1), in which position its front plane is parallel to the fabric (8). <IMAGE>

Description

A awning is a protective element comprising a frame and a canvas which can be wound on a tube, according to a more or less long length.

The canvas undergoes an aging all the more pronounced that it remains subjected to the bad weather, to the ultraviolet radiation of the sun and to the stains.

This is therefore more marked for the part of the canvas which is not protected by its winding on the tube, that is to say the lower end of the canvas, secured to a load bar, and the part canvas which is not completely wrapped after winding.

Pour remédier à cet inconvénient, on a déjà pensé à placer un auvent fixe.To overcome this drawback, we have already thought of placing a fixed awning.

Such a canopy can be produced according to various known variants which can be grouped into two main families:

A first family comprises the attached awnings, consisting of an upper part and sometimes of side cheeks, fixed above the awning (see document DE-C-3 428 153).

These awnings are mostly made specially for each awning and are expensive because, in addition to being made to order, they must be robust and rigid in order to be in themselves sufficiently resistant to be able to withstand the stresses they undergo: mainly wind forces and, of course, their own weight. Indeed, they are fixed above the awning and are generally independent of it. In addition, they have a projection all the more important that the canvas is given a more steep slope because they must protect it not only against the rain and dust falling vertically but also against those reaching it obliquely.

Canopies of this type are of ordinary design and have not, in themselves, given rise to patent applications.

A second family includes the safes which envelop the whole of the awning and which must be self-supporting in themselves because they must not interfere with the functioning of the awning and, therefore, they must be made completely rigid and autonomous.

An example of such a box is described in document FR-A-2 125 291. Upon examination of this document, it is understood that the box does not constitute a real awning but a complete envelope the upper part of which is immutable since 'it constitutes a fixed element, of reference, with which a mobile element must cooperate, constituted by a "drop bar" whose shape is complementary to that of the trunk in order to close the latter when the canvas is completely wound.

As soon as we accept the technical and economic disadvantages of such freestanding boxes, we generally take advantage of their heaviness and their rigidity to make them play a supporting role for the canvas tube which we know to be deformed and takes a arrow when relatively long, thin and therefore flexible.

In document FR-A-2 125 291, the self-supporting trunk has an internal wall of circular shape for directly receiving the tube and the fabric wound on it, without it being necessary to provide bearings for the guiding in rotation of the tube Canvas. It is therefore the trunk which gives rigidity to the whole.

This rigidity problem is independent of that of the protection of the fabric by a canopy as shown in document FR-A-2 223 542 which describes a deflection compensator which has no canopy but which supports a tube to prevent it don't falter.

Consequently, it is a specific advantage of the self-supporting trunk described in document FR-A-2 125 291 to offer both the advantage of supporting the tube and the advantage of protecting the fabric.

On the other hand, this solution has major drawbacks, and in particular that of being extremely expensive, due in particular to the weight of material necessary for the desired rigidity and solidity. The material must, in addition, necessarily withstand the weather, aluminum alloys are generally chosen which have the disadvantage of being very expensive.

From a strictly functional point of view, such a self-supporting trunk does not make it possible to adjust the position of the upper part of the trunk (comparable to an awning) according to the inclination of the canvas since it is given by the arms of maneuver whose position is determined by adjusting a screw-nut assembly, while the upper part of the trunk is immutable.

The present invention overcomes all the drawbacks mentioned above by making it possible to produce a awning whose inclination is adjustable and whose fabric is always protected by a light and inexpensive awning.

Referring to the drawing, it can be seen that an awning according to the invention comprises a very robust support element 1 constituted by a tube with a square section, this support element 1 being fixed above a bay such as a door. , a showcase, a window, etc. by sealed or bolted parts (not shown), as is well known in itself.

Arms (not shown) are also attached to the support element 1 which extend from the support element 1 to a load bar 2, their length being adjustable. These arms, of any known type, carry and guide the load bar 2, according to a conventional arrangement which therefore does not require a detailed description.

The load bar 2 receives one end of a fabric 3, the opposite end of which is subjected to a tube 4 kinematically connected to an operating mechanism such as a motor, a crank, etc. of any known type (not shown), so that it can be rotated along its x axis in any of two opposite directions.

When the tube 4 is driven in a clockwise direction, considering the end visible in FIG. 1, it pulls on the fabric 3 which itself pulls on the load bar 2, the carrying arms retracting while ensuring the maintenance of the load bar 2 and its alignment parallel to the axis x of the tube 4.

When the tube 4 is driven anticlockwise (always considering the end visible in FIG. 1), the fabric 3 is released and lets the carrying arms unfold until the stop of the tube rotation 4.

The orientation of the plane in which the fabric 3 extends when it is deployed depends on the adjustment of the position of the arms relative to the support element 1, this assembly being conventional and well known to those skilled in the art.

Depending on the circumstances, one adjustment is made rather than another so that the canvas is more or less vertical and, therefore, has a "projection" more or less
large and a free height under the load bar 2 more or less important.

According to the invention, an awning 10 is placed above the awning and extends over a distance D which is measured from the rear of the awning to the plumb, at least, of the most projection of the load bar 2 in the position it occupies when the fabric 3 is completely wound on the tube 4.

By “rear part”, one essentially designates the rear part of the tube 4, that is to say its generator closest to the plane of the fitted bay, generator considered when the maximum of fabric 3 is wound on the tube 4 since the primary purpose of awning 10 is to protect the fabric.

Here, the canopy 10 comprises a front plane 11 having a raised edge 12 and extending by a lower part 13 which surrounds the tube 4 and the fabric 3 wound on it.

The canopy 10 thus comprises, in a single piece, the front plane 11 and a shell 13 of circular section coaxial with the tube 4.

It is therefore possible to rotate the assembly of the canopy 10 along the x axis both in one direction and in the other in order to orient the anterior plane 10 so that it is parallel to the fabric 3 when it is completely rolled up.

This possibility of movement must nevertheless be controlled because each action on the roller 4 to wind or unwind the fabric 3 may tend to move the awning 10, which is not the aim. On the contrary, if it is necessary to be able to orient the awning differently 10 according to the inclination of the fabric 3, it is also necessary to maintain this orientation, whatever the movements of said fabric 3 in normal service.

C'est pourquoi on prévoit des moyens d'immobilisation de l'auvent 10.This is why means for immobilizing the awning 10 are provided.

An exemplary embodiment of these means will now be described.

The shell 13 straightens forward and ends with a rounded edge 14 located near the underside of the anterior plane 11, the fabric 3 being able to slide over it without any drawback since it has a curved shape and a smooth surface.

A rigid cradle 15 has a central part in an arc of a circle which terminates towards the front by a stiffening bead 16 whose external profile is coordinated with the internal profile of the rounded edge 14, so that the bead 16 is properly applied, and even pinched by elastic deformation of the rounded edge 14, in the volute of said rounded edge 14, which secures the canopy 10 and the cradle 15 in axial pivoting.

The cradle 15 is engaged in a circular guide 17 of a support 18 locked on the carrier element 1 by means of at least one bolt 19 after it has been engaged on said carrier element 1 by a jaw 20 of corresponding section .

When the bolt (s) 19 are tightened, the support 18 is securely attached to the carrier element 1 and is therefore perfectly stationary.

The cradle 15, for its part, can pivot around the x axis by sliding in the guide 17 and it is by this movement that the orientation of the awning 10 is adjusted relative to the slope of the fabric. 3, which depends on the adjustment made at the location of the fixing of these on the carrier element 1.

Cette vis agit très efficacement et suffit à rendre le berceau 15 (et donc l'auvent 10) parfaitement immobiles, puisque solidaires de l'élément porteur 1, par l'intermédiaire du support 18.To block the canopy 10 in good position, at least one screw 21 is provided, engaged in a tapped hole in the support 18 and emerging opposite the outer edge of the cradle 15. This screw acts very effectively and is sufficient to make the cradle 15 (and therefore the canopy 10) perfectly stationary, since they are integral with the carrier element 1, by means of the support 18.

To secure the pivoting of the awning 10 and the cradle 15, both in one direction and in the other, an external hook 22 is provided which receives a stiffening bead 23 of the cradle 15 symmetrical and, here, identical to the bead 16. With these arrangements, the connection of the awning 10 and the cradle 15 by the rounded edge 14 and by the hook 22 receiving the beads 16 and 23 is independent of the direction in which an effort is exerted to modify the orientation of awning 10.

By making continuous over the entire length of the canopy 10 the raised edge 12, the rounded edge 14 and the outer hook 2 2, the canopy 10 is stiffened, which retains considerable stiffness and non-deformability.

In addition, at least two cradle 15 -support 18 assemblies are provided to balance the forces and the support points.

We are faced with a choice, depending on whether or not we have a very rigid winding tube 4.

S'il est très rigide, l'auvent 10 acquiert sa rigidité par son contact avec le tube 4 puisque celui-ci repose sur la coquille continue 13.If it is very rigid, the canopy 10 acquires its rigidity by its contact with the tube 4 since the latter rests on the continuous shell 13.

However, it is also possible to obtain a stiffening effect on the tube 4 by the shell 13, owing to the fact that the latter rests on robust supports 18 well distributed along the carrier element 1.

The canopy 10 then acts as a deflection compensator and can make unnecessary other intermediate supports between the two ends of the winding tube 4, for banners of great length.

By comparing Figures 1 and 2, we see that the fixed elements are arranged identically and that, in on the other hand, the canopy 10 and its cradle 15 have pivoted: in FIG. 1 the front plane 11 of the canopy 10 is parallel to a fabric 3 slightly inclined whereas in FIG. 2, the anterior plane 11 is parallel to a fabric 3 very inclined.

The canopy 10 can be made of any suitable material such as a synthetic material. It can also have a honeycomb wall, which combines lightness and rigidity.
