Für den schnellen Anlauf einer Kfz-Metallhalogenid­ hochdruckentladungslampe (1) weist diese eine mög­ lichst kleine Quarzglasmenge und Elektroden auf, die für einen durch ein EVG zeitlich geregelten 5- bis 10fachen Anlaufstrom geeignet sind. Die Steuereinrich­ tung für das EVG bewirkt, daß die Grenzleistung der Lampe nicht überschritten wird. Darüber hinaus weist die Lampe an ihrer Oberfläche eine IR- und/oder UV-reflektierende (9) oder absorbierende (8) Beschich­ tung auf. Als zusätzliche Maßnahme kann das Quarz­ glas des Entladungsgefäßes mit einer IR- und/oder UV-reflektierenden oder absorbierenden Dotierung ver­ sehen sein. Mit einer Xenon-Füllung des Entladungs­ gefäßes 2 von mindestens 3 bar erzielt man den 90 %-Lichtstrom der Lampe schon bei ca. 1 sec.
