Abstract

In a method for manufacturing grinding devices (26) using a mould (1), in which method the grinding compound (24) consists of a binding agent mixed with abrasive grains (27), the profiled surface (18) of the casting chamber (9, 10) has an open structure. Thus the abrasive grains (27) adjacent to the profiled surface (18) assume a random position after the solidifying in the binding agent, their sharp corners and edges preferably being orientated at right angles to the grinding surface. The grinding device (26) is thus immediately ready for use without the uppermost layer first having to be removed by dressing. <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a method for producing grinding wheels according to the preamble of claim 1 and an apparatus for carrying out the method according to claim 7.

From US-A 20 81 843 a method for producing flat grinding wheels with flat side surfaces is known. Intermediate layers of blotting paper or soft rubber are inserted into the casting mold so that the abrasive grains can penetrate the surface of the intermediate layers after exerting an external pressure on the closed casting mold. Then vulcanization or heat treatment is provided.

In these known methods, a pressing device is necessary in addition to the casting mold. Since the intermediate layers have a closed surface, there is no guarantee that the abrasive grains will readily penetrate into them even with their edges perpendicular to the intermediate layers. In the finished grinding wheel, the projecting edges of the grinding grains can thus lie parallel to the surface of the grinding wheel.

Ein Eindringen der Schleifkörner in die weiche Trennschicht ist nicht sicher gewährleistet.DE-A-31 37 179 also discloses a method for producing grinding wheels for grinding electrodes, the surface of the casting mold being covered with a soft separating layer. In order for the abrasive grains to penetrate this soft separating layer, an external force and thus an additional device is required, which makes the process considerably more expensive. Penetration of the abrasive grains into the soft interface is not guaranteed.

The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a method and a device for carrying out the method of the type mentioned at the outset, this method and this device for producing grinding wheels with a wide variety of profiles in small and medium-sized companies being possible with a simple and inexpensive device and where grinding wheels with high grinding performance are achieved.

By using separate profile strips in the casting chamber, it is possible to produce a wide variety of profile shapes with simple means and inexpensively.

The mold, which is open at the top, allows the self-binding binder to be filled in easily without a press and other aids, and the corners and edges of the grinding wheels, which project vertically above the profile surface, ensure a grinding wheel with high grinding performance.

In an advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention, the profile surface is therefore provided with a fleece or fine grid material (screen printing grid), so that the uppermost abrasive grains can enter with their edges when pouring into the open-pore, net-like structure of this intermediate layer. After the binder has solidified, the abrasive grains of the uppermost layer have sharp edges and corners directed perpendicular to the grinding surface, which attack the workpiece to be ground from the start and result in excellent grinding performance.

Instead of an intermediate layer, it is of course also possible to provide the profile surface directly with an openwork structure.

In order to improve the shape accuracy of the grinding profile, the intermediate layer is pressed or cut in at the sharp corners according to the invention by means of a knife, so that the abrasive grains can penetrate into the finest corner during casting.

The use of an intermediate layer has the further advantage that when grinding between the workpiece surface and the grinding profile of the grinding wheel there is a small gap in which abraded grinding particles can collect and which ensures that the grinding wheel does not jam during grinding.

In order to facilitate the shaping of the abrasive bodies after solidification, it can be provided according to the invention that the intermediate layer is coated on its outer side with an anti-adhesive, e.g. Silicone, is provided or consists of a polyethylene fabric, which as a whole also has non-stick properties.

In the casting mold, two casting chambers are advantageously provided, in which two symmetrical grinding bodies can be produced. Such symmetrical grinding bodies can be used particularly expediently for an opposite movement on the grinding tool.

It can further be provided according to the invention to use foam backing before pouring the abrasive material into the casting chambers. These holding backs have an essentially U-shaped cross section with a cavity which surrounds the profile strip fastened in the casting chamber. With smaller profile cross sections, the cavity of the holding back can also be chosen smaller, so that the volume of the grinding compound to be poured in is always the same for different profile cross sections.

This has the advantage that the user can be supplied with pre-packaged quantities of binder and abrasive. The foamed holder backs can also be delivered to the user ready.

The method according to the invention is thus excellently suitable for producing small quantities of the necessary grinding tools cheaply and with the most precise counter profile in small and medium-sized enterprises with frequently changing profiles.

The grinding wheels can be used in a suitable manner in a portable, motor-operated grinding tool.

For use in orbital sanders, the grinding body can be designed as a flat plate; in this case, a flat profile surface with a perforated structure is provided in the casting tool. The term "profile surface" is therefore also understood to mean flat surfaces.

However, it is also possible to subdivide the originally straight grinding body in a known manner by means of transverse incisions into grinding segments which can be fastened on the hub of a profile grinding wheel and can thus be used in stationary grinding machines.

Furthermore, it is possible to use the method according to the invention in a very general way for the production of grinding wheels, for example profiled grinding wheels. The profile surface of the casting chamber is provided with an intermediate layer with a perforated surface, so that the abrasive grains assume a disordered position after solidification. This means that the grinding wheel is immediately ready for use, without first removing the top layer by pulling it off.

An exemplary embodiment of the invention is described in more detail below with reference to the drawings.

The mold shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 consists of a support plate 2 and a flap 3 which is pivotally mounted on the support plate 2 with a hinge 4. Both support plate 2 and flap 3 can be made of any material, such as foam.

Damit entstehen die beiden Gießkammern 9 und 10 von gleichem Querschnitt, die nach oben offen sind.1 shows, the support plate 2 has a rear wall 5 and an intermediate web 6, the flap 3 is provided with side walls 7 and also an intermediate web 8, which in the closed state is aligned with the intermediate web 6 and complements it. This creates the two casting chambers 9 and 10 of the same cross-section, which are open at the top.

To lock the flap 3 with the support plate 2 there are locking levers 11 which are pivotally mounted on pins 12 on the side walls 7 of the flap 3 and whose hooks 13 cooperate with a bolt 14 of the support plate 2 for locking the flap 3.

To carry out the method according to the invention, as shown in FIG. 1, the right-hand side, a spacer strip 15 is first inserted into the casting chamber 9 in such a way that it rests on the intermediate web 6 with one side surface. A profile strip 16 is placed on its opposite side surface, which is provided on its flat back with a double-sided adhesive tape 17 and on its profile surface 18 with an intermediate layer 19 with an openwork structure.

The intermediate layer 19 is glued to the profile strips 16 and has an outwardly directed, non-stick surface 20.

So that the intermediate layer 19 adapts to the profile strip 16 in a true-to-shape manner, it can e.g. can be cut in the corner 21 with a knife.

After the profile strip 16 has been stuck to the rear wall 5 of the support plate 2, the spacer strip 15 is inserted in the same way into the opposite casting chamber 10 and a second profile strip 16 is glued into the casting chamber 10. This profile strip 16 is again provided with an intermediate layer 19. Then the spacer bar 15 is removed.

As shown in FIG. 1 only on the left side, holding ridges 22 made of foam with an essentially U-shaped cross section are now inserted into both casting chambers 9 and 10, the cavity 23 of which encloses the profiled strips 16.

As indicated in FIG. 1, left casting chamber 10, the cavity 23 can have different cross sections. It is thus possible to adapt the volume of the grinding compound in different cross sections of the profile strips 16.

As shown in FIG. 2, the abrasive compound 24 is filled into the two cavities 23, the abrasive being pressed against the profiled strip 16 by means of a spatula and stamped, so that a homogeneous abrasive surface 25 of the abrasive body 26 is created (see FIG. 3) and the disordered grinding bodies 27 can penetrate into the openings of the intermediate layer 19 and also assume an unordered position on the grinding surface 25.

After the reaction time of the grinding compound, the locking lever 11 is unlocked so that the flap 3 can be pivoted into its open position. The two grinding bodies 26 can now be removed from the casting mold 1 and, after the profile strips 16 have been removed and the intermediate layer 19 removed, a pair of ready-to-use grinding bodies is available.
