Description

The invention relates to a socket contact for electrical plugs, with a box-like sheet metal frame, on which four contact elements are formed, of which two interacting contact elements are arranged one behind the other in the insertion direction of the plug, the rear contact element pair with its contact surfaces being offset by 90 ° to the contact surfaces of the front pair of contact elements.

Such a socket contact is known from US-A-4 076 369. The fact that two contact planes lying one behind the other at a predetermined distance and also in that the contact surfaces of the two pairs of contact elements are offset by 90 ° to one another already result in good contacting of the plug to be inserted. The contact security compared to socket contacts with only one contact level is already increased. Relative ease of actuation is also already given, since, seen over the entire insertion length of the plug, the pulling and pushing forces only increase gradually due to the offset of the two contact levels. There remains only the relatively short push-in distance between the rear contact plane to the end of the insertion path, on which the force exerted by all four contact elements has to be overcome. The offset of the contact surfaces by 90 ° in relation to one another also results in an improvement in the event of an inclined insertion of the plug, since in any case at least one pair of contact elements remains unaffected and there is also the possibility of a structurally simplified design of the sheet metal blank. In the known socket contact, all contact springs start from the rear side walls of the box-like frame in such a way that both the front contact and the rear contact are each formed by identically identical resilient contact tongues. All contact tongues are designed very similar to one another. When exposed to vibrations, all contact tongues therefore have a very similar vibration behavior on the day. In particular, they have very similar natural resonances.

The present invention has for its object to provide a socket contact of the generic type, which is characterized by a particularly high contact reliability with relatively smooth operation.

The solution according to the invention consists in that each pair of contact elements is formed on the one hand by a relatively rigid contact tongue and on the other hand by a resilient contact arm.

While maintaining the relatively smooth operation and while maintaining the known advantageous basic concept with two consecutive contact planes and an offset of the contact surfaces in these contact planes by 90 ° to one another, contact elements of different design and thus different vibration behavior and each are involved in the formation of each of the two contact pairs in this configuration thus also involved different self-resonance. This results in the particularly high level of contact reliability.

Further preferred configurations are characterized in the subclaims.

Figure 2
a further perspective view of the socket contact of Figure 1, seen from another side.

The socket contact has a box-shaped sheet metal frame 1, the various functional elements to be described below being formed on the corresponding sheet metal blank by punching out. Thus, on this socket contact, seen in the direction of insertion of an electrical plug, a front contact plane is formed by two contact elements lying opposite one another, in the exemplary embodiment shown by a relatively rigid, small, basic contact tongue 2, which is pressed outward from the corresponding side wall of the box-shaped socket contact, and further with a resilient contact arm 3, which extends from a rear region of an opposite side wall of the box-shaped socket contact into the front region.

On the socket contact there is also a second contact plane, which is located behind the first contact plane in the plugging direction of the electrical connector, in the exemplary embodiment shown again formed by a relatively rigid contact tongue 4 and, opposite it, a resilient contact arm 5, which in this case differs from one front area of the corresponding side wall of the socket contact extends to the rear.

In this embodiment, the contact elements 2 and 3 as well as 4 and 5 are each formed from all four side walls of the socket contact in such a way that the rear pair of contact elements with its contact surfaces formed by the contact tongue 4 and the contact arm 5 are offset by 90 ° to the contact surfaces, which form the front contact tongue 2 and the front contact arm 3. This makes it possible to keep the stamping blank relatively simple and, in particular, leads to an arrangement which is nested with respect to the contact elements and is therefore also protected the way, for example, the rear contact plane with the contact tongue 4 and the resilient contact arm 5 is protected between a side wall of the socket contact and the rear region of the resilient contact arm 3 projecting forward of the front contact zone. In the front contact plane, flaps 6 can be provided on corresponding side walls of the socket contact, under which the front effective area of the resilient contact arm 3 is protected.

On the box-like sheet metal frame of the socket contact, a locking tab 7 for locking the socket contact in a housing and a stop wall 8 are also formed in the usual manner, the latter preventing the plug from being inserted too far.

In an expedient embodiment, the contact plane of the front contact elements 2, 3 lies only at a relatively short distance from the socket contact front edge, specifically measured from the front edge of the insulation region (not shown). In this way, extremely short pins can still be contacted with two contact elements. Pin lengths of approximately 2.5 mm and less can occur, with conventional pin lengths of approximately 5.8 mm. Based on this numerical example, the front contact level, for example, can lie 1.7 mm measured from the front edge of the insulation, while the second contact level is then approximately 3.8 mm behind the first contact level.

In its rear area, the socket contact according to the invention, integrally formed from the box-shaped sheet metal frame, has one of the commercially available connections, for example a crimp connection or a cutting connection, for example with two mutually spaced insulation displacement areas, in order to connect an electrical conductor here using one of the common connection techniques can. In one or the other embodiment, the requirement may arise to replace the latching lug 7 described above for latching the socket contact in a housing by another, conventional latch.
