Definitions
- the present invention relates to a new sodium tripolyphosphate specially adapted for the preparation of liquid detergent formulas.
- European patent application 178 989 which describes a sodium tripolyphosphate containing at least 50% of phase 1, an average particle size of between 130 and 250 microns, a water content of between 0.4 and 4%, this water being present in the form of crystals of sodium tripolyphosphate hexahydrate; homogeneously distributed in each particle size fraction of the product.
- This tripolyphosphate was designed for the preparation of liquid formulations. However, it has the disadvantage during its implementation of forming lumps in the aqueous solution.
- the present invention has solved this problem. It consists in using a new sodium tripolyphosphate consisting of a tripolyphosphate as described in patent EP 178 986 containing at least 50% of phase 1 and preferably at least 70%, an average particle size of between 80 and 200 microns , a weight content of water of between 0.8 and 6% in the form essentially of sodium tripolyphosphate hexahydrate and a weight content of siliconate of between 0.2 and 2% calculated relative to the tripolyphosphate.
- the siliconate used is a compound of formula (I) below: in which : R represents a methyl or ethyl group M represents an alkali metal chosen from sodium or potassium
- the TPP according to the invention has an RRB (Rosin Ramler Benett) particle size of between 80 and 200 microns and does not have more than 0.5% of particles greater than 400 microns. It is further preferred that its particle size is between 100 and 150 microns and its phase 1 content is at least 70%.
- RRB Rosin Ramler Benett
- siliconate which allows better dispersion of the tripolyphosphate in water does not, on the other hand, cause a reduction in "ROH", therefore a reduction in the hydration capacity of the tripolyphosphate.
- siliconate is a hydrophobic product which should tend to prevent contact between water and tripolyphosphate and therefore should slow hydration.
- the siliconate increases the dispersion of the tripolyphosphate which has a markedly stronger effect than the slowing down of hydration due to its hydrophobic effect, the whole results in a marked increase in the speed d hydration and the disappearance of the agglomeration phenomenon.
- the process for the preparation of this modified tripolyphosphate consists in starting with an anhydrous tripolyphosphate containing at least 50% of phase 1 and having a particle size between 600 and 2500 microns to be sprayed on an aqueous solution containing by weight 5 to 50% of siliconate ( active ingredient) and containing possibly dissolved tripolyphosphate.
- a coarse primary grinding of this TPP is then carried out by any known means.
- this primary grinding is carried out so as to obtain a product having an average diameter RRB (Rosin Ramler Benett) of between 600 and 2500 microns.
- RRB Rasin Ramler Benett
- the ground tripolyphosphate is then prehydrated by spraying it with an aqueous siliconate solution optionally supplemented with tripolyphosphate in suspension.
- This possible suspension is prepared by adding to water containing the siliconate a sufficient amount of anhydrous TPP to be in supersaturation.
- a suspension is prepared with a TPP content ranging from 30 to 35% of TPP.
- a TPP preferably having the same characteristic of phase 1 distribution homogeneity as that described above for the TPP of the invention is preferably used. Under these conditions, the TPP will transform into hexahydrate in the suspension.
- the spraying is done by any suitable means. Generally, the amount of sprayed suspension is 2 to 6% by weight relative to the anhydrous TPP.
- the prehydrated TPP is subjected to a secondary grinding which brings it to the particle size of the finished product, defined by the average diameter RRB, between 80 and 200 microns, and a maximum refusal of 0.5%. at 400 microns. It is this secondary grinding which makes it possible to achieve the homogeneous distribution of the crystals of TPP hexahydrate over each fraction of the particle size population.
- the product is then subjected to a ripening phase comprising ventilation and cooling.
- Hydrated TPP containing siliconate is used to prepare liquid detergent compositions.
- the products after emptying the mixer, ripen for around 24 hours on a tray, at room temperature, for crystallization. They are sieved on a 400 ⁇ sieve to remove any particles, crushing or agglomeration, larger than this size.
- the dispersibility test is as follows:

Abstract
