Abstract

A covering includes a cover and a frame into which the cover is inserted. A supporting surface of the cover and a cooperating bearing surface of the frame each have a surface inclined with respect to the cover plane. These surfaces are partial peripheral surfaces of a sloping cylinder and/or a sloping cone bounded by sections. As a result the partial surfaces have along their circumferences a different inclination with respect to the cover plane. Therefore the cover can only be inserted in the frame in a specific position. Since as a result of this the same surface positions of the cover and the frame always rest on one another, in the case of such coverings a tight closure can be achieved with a circular or oval opening.

Description

The invention relates to a cover for a floor opening according to the preamble of claims 1 and 8.

Covers with which a bottom opening, for example a shaft opening or an opening in a ceiling, can be closed but, if necessary, opened without problems, are known in many designs. The lid can have a rectangular, elliptical or circular shape, while in most cases the frame is designed with a quadrangular outer contour, regardless of the shape of the lid. In certain applications it is required that the lid forms a tight seal for the bottom opening. Known solutions use relatively soft seals made of rubber or a rubber-elastic plastic to achieve this requirement. Although a good seal can be achieved in this way, problems arise if the seal is damaged or moved during opening, so that the seal is no longer guaranteed when the bottom opening is subsequently closed.

From EP-A-0 142 160 a sealing device for sealing a cover on the bearing surface of the associated frame is known, in which the deficiencies described do not occur. The cover can have support surfaces inclined to the cover plane, which cooperate with corresponding bearing surfaces of the frame. An annular recess, which is filled with a sealing compound, is recessed in the support surface or in the support surface. If the lid is carefully opened and replaced again, the sealing effect remains intact. However, if the cover has not been removed carefully, the complete seal is also achieved. If necessary, some sealing compound must be pressed into the recess, for which purpose corresponding openings are provided in the lid or in the frame.

The use of the known sealing device is particularly suitable for lids and frames, the support surfaces and bearing surfaces of which are inclined to the lid plane. If the lid has a square shape, a perfect fit of the lid in the frame is guaranteed. However, if the lid has a circular shape, it is necessary to use soft seals and to screw the lid onto the frame while compressing the seal. However, this can cause the problems mentioned when opening such a lid.

This is where the invention comes in, which is based on the object of further developing a cover of the type described at the outset in such a way that even round and oval lids can be reliably sealed without any problems and without the disadvantages mentioned.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the characterizing features of claim 1 or 8.

The invention is based on the consideration that a good seal can be achieved with a cover with a circular or elliptical cover if the cover or its support surface is designed such that the latter only fits into the bearing surface of the frame in a single position . It is obviously not sufficient for this that the cover has the shape of a cylindrical piece or a truncated cone. Because such a lid can be used in any way in the frame. But even if the circular shape of the lid is replaced by an elliptical shape, the lid can still be inserted into the frame in two different positions. However, the situation is different if the cover is designed as part of an oblique circular cone or an oblique cylinder, since then no point of the support surface is repeated on the circumference. However, this is the condition for the cover to have a support surface which can only be fitted into the support surface of the frame in a single position.

In Fig. 1 is shown schematically the shape of a lid, the support surface of which forms part of the lateral surface of an oblique cone. The lid then represents a section of this inclined cone, which is limited by appropriate cuts.

In Fig. 1, the oblique circular cone is denoted by 1 and its axis by 2. If the upper and lower cuts 3, 4 are circular, this means that the diameters 5, 6 of these cuts are perpendicular to axes 7, 8. The cuts 3, 4 are, however, elliptical surfaces if the axes of these cuts are perpendicular to the axis 2 of the oblique circular cone. However, if the starting figure for forming the cover is an oblique circular cylinder 9, see FIG. 2 and if the upper section 3 and the lower section 4 are circular surfaces, these sections are perpendicular to axes 7, 8.

If these cuts are perpendicular to the axis 2 of the oblique cylinder 9, then the cuts 3, 4 are elliptical surfaces.

In this way, four cutouts are cut out of the oblique circular cone 1 and the oblique circular cylinder 9, which can be used as a lid. These are a circular, oblique truncated cone according to FIG. 3, an elliptical, oblique truncated cone according to FIG. 4, an oblique, circular cylinder piece according to FIG. 5 and an oblique, elliptical cylinder piece according to FIG. 6.

However, lids are also possible in which the top side is circular and the bottom side is elliptical, see FIG. 7. However, the surface can also be elliptical and the bottom side circular, see FIG. 8.

Another variant is shown in FIG. 9. In this case, the elliptical side is rotated by 90 ° with respect to the elliptical sides of FIGS. 7 and 8.

Further embodiments are shown in FIGS. 10 and 11. This is based on the consideration that the circular or elliptical top and bottom sides can be approximated by polygons. In this case too, lids are obtained which have the same properties as the lids with circular or elliptical top and bottom sides.

Fig. 10 shows a lid in the form of an oblique truncated pyramid with a polygonal top and bottom, the polygon being a regular octagon.

Fig. 10 entspricht etwa Fig. 3 und Fig. 11 etwa Fig. 5. Fig. 11 shows a cover in the form of an oblique prism with a polygonal top and bottom, the polygon being a regular octagon. FIG. 10 corresponds approximately to FIG. 3 and FIG. 11 approximately corresponds to FIG. 5. However, an n-corner with any number of corners can be used instead of the octagon.

Hierbei wird von einem Deckel gemäss Fig. 12 ausgegangen, welcher einer der Ausführungsformen nach Fig. 3 - 6 entsprechen kann.13-16 shows the shape of the frame resulting from the design of the cover as an oblique cone or cylinder. Here, a cover according to FIG. 12 is assumed, which can correspond to one of the embodiments according to FIGS. 3-6.

From this section it can be seen that the inclination of the support surface of the cover 10 and the bearing surface of the frame 11 on the opposite sides is different.

Trotzdem ist es nicht möglich, den Deckel 10 in anderer Weise in den Rahmen 11 einzufügen als in der in Fig. 13 dargestellten Lage.15 and 16 show a section of the cover 10 and the frame 11 along the line XV - XV. In this section, the support surface of the cover 10 and the support surface of the frame 11 have the same inclination on the opposite sides. Nevertheless, it is not possible to insert the cover 10 into the frame 11 in any other way than in the position shown in FIG. 13.

Thanks to the special shape of the cover, the lid can be easily inserted into the frame and aligns itself. It is also advantageous that the cover cannot be rotated in the frame, so that the same point on the support surface of the

Cover lies on the corresponding point of the bearing surface of the frame. In view of the small play that can be maintained between the cover and the frame and the parts that are covered with grease, a reliable sealing of the cover is guaranteed. However, the sealing device according to EP-A-0 142 160 can also be used for these embodiments. It should also be mentioned that, of course, the covers described with a lock, e.g. according to CH Patent No. 677 379 can be used. This can expediently be provided in the area 12 of the cover 10.

The described lids can be made from different materials, for example from cast iron with lamellar or spherical graphite or from plastic. Machining of the support surface of the cover and the support surface of the frame is required, for which purpose special machines are expediently used.

For the graphic representations of the various embodiments, schematic representations were chosen, since this makes the basic shape of the support surfaces of the cover and the bearing surfaces of the frame easier to see. Of course, ribs can be attached to the underside of the cover, for example. The top can contain a recess which can be filled with bitumen or concrete. The frame can also have additional ribs and webs; it can also be double-walled. The design of the support surface of the lid and the support surface of the frame result from the shape chosen.
