Definitions
- the invention relates to a conveyor ball unit, in particular for moving cargo on a conveyor track, with a, approximately hollow cylindrical housing having a vertical central axis, a conveyor ball rotatably mounted centrally on a plurality of bearing balls in a bearing shell and projecting beyond the open end of the housing , a ring guide encircling the conveyor ball from above, the conveyor ball and the bearing balls movably in the bearing shell, and with a spring arrangement which elastically prestresses the bearing shell from below and is supported on the housing, the conveyor ball, the bearing balls and the bearing shell as a unit are movable within the housing and can be pressed downward against the spring force of the spring arrangement along the central axis.
- Conveyor ball units of this type are used, for example, in ball conveyor tracks which are provided, for example, in the cargo hold of cargo aircraft for moving cargo containers during loading or unloading.
- the requirements for the conveyor ball units are in particular that they are maintenance-free and very robust and yet have a low weight.
- a conveyor ball unit of the type mentioned in DE-PS 22 13 021 the conveyor ball rotatably mounted on a plurality of bearing balls is combined with an approximately hemispherical bearing shell and a ball guide firmly connected to it, holding the conveyor ball on the bearing balls to form a bearing unit which is movable in an approximately hollow cylindrical housing along the central axis of this housing.
- the housing itself is detachably fixed in the panel of a conveyor track.
- a spiral spring is provided in the lower bottom wall and the edge of the bearing unit in the area of the peripheral edge of the bearing shell, which biases the bearing unit upwards against an annular stop shoulder in the housing in the unloaded state of the conveyor ball, so that the conveyor ball passes upwards through a central opening in the ball guide protrudes beyond the surface of the conveyor track panel.
- the conveyor ball is very often loaded not only with purely vertically downward forces, but mostly also with lateral pushing forces which have to be absorbed by the edge of the upper opening of the ball guide.
- This ball guide must therefore be designed very stable and very precisely around the conveyor ball.
- the bearing arrangement in the housing is pressed downward in a tilted manner, since the spiral spring is unable to absorb any lateral forces.
- the object on which the invention is based is to create a conveyor ball unit of the type mentioned at the beginning in which canting and subsequent jamming of the bearing arrangement in the housing is reliably avoided.
- this object is achieved in that the bearing shell as a whole is designed aspherically such that the conveyor ball is supported on bearing balls only on an annular region of the bearing shell concentric with the central axis, that the spring arrangement is designed as a package of annular disc springs, the outer diameter of which adjacent inner diameter of the housing is adapted, and that the bearing shell is supported with its annular region on the inner edge of the uppermost annular plate spring of the spring arrangement.
- the conveyor ball is supported symmetrically to the central axis only over a part of the load balls located in the bearing shell on an annular region of the bearing shell.
- the bearing shell itself lies precisely with this annular area on the upper inner edge of the uppermost plate spring of the spring arrangement, so that it in turn centers itself with respect to the annular plate springs of the spring arrangement.
- the spring arrangement in turn is adapted with its outer diameter to the inner diameter of the cylindrical housing wall, so that it is kept centered with respect to the housing and thus also with respect to the central axis of this housing.
- This ball guide is therefore primarily used to prevent the bearing balls and the conveyor ball from falling out of the ball socket when the unit is turned over.
- the annular body of this ball guide can therefore be formed with considerable play relative to the circumference of the conveyor ball, so that on the one hand no frictional forces occur between these parts and smooth rolling of the conveyor ball is ensured. Since the ball guide does not have to absorb large forces, it can be designed very easily and made of plastic.
- the bearing shell extends approximately over a hemisphere region that surrounds the conveyor ball from below at a distance.
- the upper region of the bearing shell which extends to the edge, is designed as an annular spherical section, the radius of which is slightly larger than the sum of the radius of the conveying ball and the radius by a predetermined amount Diameter of the bearing balls, that the center point of this spherical section lies on the central axis by a predetermined amount above the center point of the conveyor ball, that at the lower edge of the ring-shaped spherical section is connected a spherical segment which surrounds the central axis and bulges downwards, the radius of which is smaller than the radius of the annular spherical section and its center lies to a considerable extent below the center of the conveyor ball on the central axis.
- This design of the aspherical bearing shell ensures an annular bearing area for the conveyor ball in the sense of the invention and is advantageous in terms of production technology.
- the spherical segment extends from the center of the spherical section with respect to the central axis over an angle of approximately 20 to 30 °.
- the annular bearing area is placed in a position which is favorable for a good flow of force.
- the ball guide loosely surrounds the conveyor ball in an annular manner and that a sealing lip sealing against the conveyor ball is provided on the upper inner edge of the annular ball guide is appropriate. Since the ball guide has no force-absorbing function and, in particular, is hardly loaded in the lateral direction, such a sealing lip can be designed with a low contact pressure on the conveyor ball, so that the rolling resistance of the conveyor ball remains low despite a good seal.
- the ball guide is provided on the circumferential edge with a plurality of circumferential, downwardly projecting snap-in lugs which, in the assembled state, snap-fit under a horizontal flange formed on the upper edge of the bearing shell.
- the ball guide is formed in one piece from plastic. This means that both the sealing lips and the snap noses are components of the ball guide and are integrally formed with it.
- FIG. 1 and 2 an embodiment of the conveyor ball unit is shown inserted into a panel 100 of a conveyor track.
- a generally hollow cylindrical bushing 90 which is provided on the outer circumference with a corrugation 91, is cast or pressed into the panel 100, which can be made of metal, such as a light metal alloy.
- This bushing 90 is formed on its upper edge in FIG. 1 with locking shoulders 92 distributed over the circumference, under which, when inserted, corresponding locking elements 40 of the housing 30 of the conveyor ball unit engage in order to hold it in the panel 100.
- FIG. 1 At the lower edge in FIG.
- the bushing 90 is provided with an inwardly projecting ring flange 93, on which, in the inserted state, a correspondingly shaped shoulder of the housing 30 of the conveyor ball unit is supported.
- the housing 30 and the bushing 90 in the region of this ring flange 93 are designed asymmetrically with respect to the central axis 60 of the housing 30 so that the conveyor ball unit is held in the bushing 90 of the panel 100 in a manner that prevents it from rotating.
- the housing 30 of the conveyor ball unit is designed overall as an approximately hollow cylindrical body, the outside diameter of which is adapted to the inside diameter of the bushing 90.
- an approximately hemispherical bearing shell 10 is arranged in the interior of the housing 30 centrally to its central axis 60, in which a plurality of bearing balls 15 is arranged in a layer of adjacent balls covering the inner surface of the bearing shell 10.
- a conveyor ball 1 is rotatably mounted on these bearing balls 15.
- the conveyor ball 1 is surrounded from above by an approximately ring-shaped ball guide 20, through the upper opening of which the upper part of the conveyor ball 1 projects upward beyond the surface of the panel 100.
- the upper opening of the ball guide 20 is shaped as a sealing lip 21, which lies sealingly against the conveyor ball 1.
- the rest of the annular body of the ball guide 20 is formed with play with respect to the conveyor ball 1.
- locking elements 50 are also integrally formed on the outside of the ball guide 20, which allow the holding unit of the mounting of the conveyor ball 1 to be snapped into the housing 30 from above, these locking elements 50 in the inserted state under one on the upper inner edge of the housing 30 shaped locking shoulder 32 grip.
- the diameter of the outer circumference of the ball guide is adapted to the inside diameter of the housing 30, so that the unit comprising the conveying ball 1, bearing balls 15, bearing shell 10 and ball guide 20 can slide up and down within the housing 30 along the central axis 60, and still through the shoulders 32 and the locking elements 50 is prevented from falling out of the housing 30 upwards.
- the bearing shell 10 extends at a distance from the conveyor ball 1 over an approximately hemispherical area, but it is aspherically shaped in such a way that the conveyor ball 1 is supported over part of the bearing balls 15 only on an annular region 16 (see FIG. 3) of the bearing shell 10 is. Outside of this annular region 16, a little play is provided between the bearing balls 15 and the conveyor ball 1, ie a small gap 18 is formed in the upper peripheral region of the bearing shell 10 between the bearing balls 15 and the conveyor ball 1 and around the central axis 60 in the lower region a small gap 19.
- the housing 30 is provided with a plurality of radially inwardly projecting ribs 31, on which a spring arrangement 70 is supported with the interposition of a bearing ring 77.
- This spring arrangement 70 consists of a stack of annular disc springs 71 lying one above the other. The topmost of these disc springs 71 lies with its inner upper edge in the annular region 16 of the bearing shell 10. The outer circumference of the plate springs 71 is adapted to the inner circumference of the housing 30.
- the height of the spring arrangement 70 is dimensioned such that the entire unit held in the bearing shell 10 is pressed upwards in the unloaded state of the conveyor ball 1 and rests with the locking elements 50 on the locking shoulder 32 of the housing 30.
- the conveying ball 1 Due to the special aspherical shape of the bearing shell 10, the conveying ball 1, as already mentioned above, is supported via some of the bearing balls 15 only in an annular region 16 that is central to the central axis 60. Thereby it is achieved that the bearing ball 1 is centered independently in the bearing shell 10 and that this centering is maintained even when forces are exerted on the conveyor ball 1 from above by cargo containers carried thereon, which also have a lateral component, that is to say the radial center axis 60 have.
- the bearing shell 10 is in turn supported in the annular spring arrangement 70 in the annular region 16. Since the spring arrangement 70 fits with its outer circumference in the housing 30, this ensures that the bearing shell 10 is also self-centering with respect to the central axis 60 of the housing. It is thereby achieved that forces which act on the conveyor ball 1 from above with a lateral component, via the annular region 16 of the bearing shell 10 on the spring arrangement 70 and from there directly through the wall of the housing 30 and the surrounding bush 90 on the Panel 100 of the surrounding conveyor track structure are transferred.
- the vertical force components reach the ribs 31 of the housing 30 via the spring arrangement 70 and, if necessary, deflect them via the bearing ring 77 and are transmitted therefrom predominantly via the ring flange 93 of the bushing 90 to the panel 100 or the structure supporting the panel 100 .
- the ball guide 20 can therefore be shaped as a light and simple plastic part, wherein the sealing lips 21, the snap lugs 22 and the locking elements 50 can be integrally formed.
- the shape of the bearing shell 10 is shown in a schematic representation, with which it is achieved that the conveyor ball 1 is supported only on an annular region 16.
- the bearing shell 10 has an upper annular spherical section 11, on the upper edge of which the horizontal flange 13 is formed.
- the radius R2 of this ring-shaped upper ball section 11 is slightly larger than the sum of the radius R1 of the conveyor ball 1 and the diameter D of the bearing balls 15, and the center M2 of the ring-shaped ball section 11 lies a small distance S1 above the center M1 of the conveyor ball 1 on the Central axis 60.
- the lower edge of the annular spherical section 11 merges into a spherical segment 12 centrally surrounding the central axis 60, the radius R3 of which is smaller than R1 or R2 and the center M3 of which is a considerable distance S2 below the center M1 on the central axis 60, so that the ball segment 12 bulges downward with respect to the annular ball section 11.
- the position of the center M3 and the proportions of the radii are chosen such that the ball segment 12 extends from the center M2 at an angle ⁇ of about 20 to 30 ° around the center axis.
- R2 16.020 mm
- S1 0.600 mm
- the entire housing 30 of the conveyor ball unit can also be molded from plastic, since the parts of the housing 30 that transmit a substantial force are only subjected to pressure. In addition to low manufacturing costs, it can also be lightweight.

Abstract
In a known conveyor ball unit, such as is used for moving cargo on a conveyor track, the undesirable phenomenon can occur that the spring-mounted bearing structure of the conveyor ball (1) in the housing (30) is tilted when it is deflected under the action of a load, and is therefore in the housing (30 ) jammed. To avoid this phenomenon, it is provided that the conveyor ball (1) is supported only on an annular region of the bearing shell (10) and the bearing shell itself in this annular region by means of a spring arrangement (70) which is in turn centered in the housing with its outer circumference (30) is held. In this way, the conveyor ball (1) and also the bearing shell (10) are arranged self-centering, so that jamming during deflection is excluded.
Description
The invention relates to a conveyor ball unit, in particular for moving cargo on a conveyor track, with a, approximately hollow cylindrical housing having a vertical central axis, a conveyor ball rotatably mounted centrally on a plurality of bearing balls in a bearing shell and projecting beyond the open end of the housing , a ring guide encircling the conveyor ball from above, the conveyor ball and the bearing balls movably in the bearing shell, and with a spring arrangement which elastically prestresses the bearing shell from below and is supported on the housing, the conveyor ball, the bearing balls and the bearing shell as a unit are movable within the housing and can be pressed downward against the spring force of the spring arrangement along the central axis.
Conveyor ball units of this type are used, for example, in ball conveyor tracks which are provided, for example, in the cargo hold of cargo aircraft for moving cargo containers during loading or unloading. The requirements for the conveyor ball units are in particular that they are maintenance-free and very robust and yet have a low weight. In a conveyor ball unit of the type mentioned in DE-PS 22 13 021, the conveyor ball rotatably mounted on a plurality of bearing balls is combined with an approximately hemispherical bearing shell and a ball guide firmly connected to it, holding the conveyor ball on the bearing balls to form a bearing unit which is movable in an approximately hollow cylindrical housing along the central axis of this housing. The housing itself is detachably fixed in the panel of a conveyor track. Between A spiral spring is provided in the lower bottom wall and the edge of the bearing unit in the area of the peripheral edge of the bearing shell, which biases the bearing unit upwards against an annular stop shoulder in the housing in the unloaded state of the conveyor ball, so that the conveyor ball passes upwards through a central opening in the ball guide protrudes beyond the surface of the conveyor track panel. When loaded by a freight container, the conveying ball together with the entire bearing arrangement can be deflected downward into the housing against the force of the spiral spring until the underside of the bearing shell hits a stop formed in the housing.
It is problematic in practice that the conveyor ball is very often loaded not only with purely vertically downward forces, but mostly also with lateral pushing forces which have to be absorbed by the edge of the upper opening of the ball guide. This ball guide must therefore be designed very stable and very precisely around the conveyor ball. In addition, when the conveyor ball is loaded with a lateral force component, it is often the case that the bearing arrangement in the housing is pressed downward in a tilted manner, since the spiral spring is unable to absorb any lateral forces. If the bearing unit is pressed upwards again by the force of the spring in the housing from such a tilted position, the case can occur that the upper annular limiting flange of the ball guide abuts under an annular shoulder formed at the upper edge of the housing opening, so that the return of the bearing unit and the conveyor ball is no longer possible in its normal rest position. The conveyor ball unit is then jammed and must be manually returned to its normal position of use by an operator. Also damage to the conveyor Ball unit is possible in such a process. This known conveyor ball unit is made entirely of metal, so that there is a high weight. Due to the necessary exact fit of the ball guide on the conveyor ball, a high level of machining effort is also required in the manufacture and even minor damage to the ball guide in the rough cargo loading operation leads to a high resistance to movement and thus a sluggishness of the conveyor ball.
The object on which the invention is based is to create a conveyor ball unit of the type mentioned at the beginning in which canting and subsequent jamming of the bearing arrangement in the housing is reliably avoided.
According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the bearing shell as a whole is designed aspherically such that the conveyor ball is supported on bearing balls only on an annular region of the bearing shell concentric with the central axis, that the spring arrangement is designed as a package of annular disc springs, the outer diameter of which adjacent inner diameter of the housing is adapted, and that the bearing shell is supported with its annular region on the inner edge of the uppermost annular plate spring of the spring arrangement.
In this embodiment according to the invention, it is therefore provided in particular that the conveyor ball is supported symmetrically to the central axis only over a part of the load balls located in the bearing shell on an annular region of the bearing shell. As a result, the conveyor ball centers itself with respect to the bearing shell and this centering is retained even when forces are exerted on the conveyor ball from above can be exercised with a lateral component.
The bearing shell itself lies precisely with this annular area on the upper inner edge of the uppermost plate spring of the spring arrangement, so that it in turn centers itself with respect to the annular plate springs of the spring arrangement. The spring arrangement in turn is adapted with its outer diameter to the inner diameter of the cylindrical housing wall, so that it is kept centered with respect to the housing and thus also with respect to the central axis of this housing.
In summary, it is thus ensured by the configuration according to the invention that even with lateral force components acting on the conveyor ball, the conveyor ball, the bearing shell and the spring arrangement are automatically centered with respect to one another and with respect to the central axis of the housing, and that this centering is also retained when force is exerted on the conveyor ball is deflected down the entire assembly within the housing against the force of the spring assembly. It is therefore impossible for these parts to jam in the housing as in the conveyor ball unit known in the prior art.
It is particularly advantageous that forces that are exerted on the conveyor ball from above are transmitted directly via the bearing balls to the bearing shell, and that no forces act on the ball guide. This ball guide is therefore primarily used to prevent the bearing balls and the conveyor ball from falling out of the ball socket when the unit is turned over.
The annular body of this ball guide can therefore be formed with considerable play relative to the circumference of the conveyor ball, so that on the one hand no frictional forces occur between these parts and smooth rolling of the conveyor ball is ensured. Since the ball guide does not have to absorb large forces, it can be designed very easily and made of plastic.
Forces, which are exerted by an object to be conveyed from above and possibly with a lateral or radial axis component on the conveyor ball, pass from this via some of the bearing balls directly to the annular region of the bearing shell and further via the plate springs of the spring arrangement directly on the cylindrical wall of the housing, which in turn can be passed on to the surrounding supporting structure of the panel of the conveyor track by the shortest route. It thus results in the shortest possible way a favorably designed flow of force, which allows the individual components to be designed very easily, the housing itself being able to be easily made of thin-walled plastic, since it is not exposed to any bending stresses in the area of the force transfer.
From a manufacturing point of view, it is favorable if, according to one embodiment of the invention, the bearing shell extends approximately over a hemisphere region that surrounds the conveyor ball from below at a distance.
In a particularly preferred embodiment it is provided that the upper region of the bearing shell, which extends to the edge, is designed as an annular spherical section, the radius of which is slightly larger than the sum of the radius of the conveying ball and the radius by a predetermined amount Diameter of the bearing balls, that the center point of this spherical section lies on the central axis by a predetermined amount above the center point of the conveyor ball, that at the lower edge of the ring-shaped spherical section is connected a spherical segment which surrounds the central axis and bulges downwards, the radius of which is smaller than the radius of the annular spherical section and its center lies to a considerable extent below the center of the conveyor ball on the central axis. This design of the aspherical bearing shell ensures an annular bearing area for the conveyor ball in the sense of the invention and is advantageous in terms of production technology. In this embodiment it is achieved that on the one hand there is a small play in the upper edge region of the bearing shell between the bearing balls and the carried conveying ball and on the other hand a small gap or play in the central area around the central axis. This ensures the desired annular bearing area for the conveyor ball and ensures low rolling resistance.
Favorable geometric conditions in the bearing shell result from the fact that the spherical segment extends from the center of the spherical section with respect to the central axis over an angle of approximately 20 to 30 °. As a result, the annular bearing area is placed in a position which is favorable for a good flow of force.
In a particularly preferred embodiment it is provided that the ball guide loosely surrounds the conveyor ball in an annular manner and that a sealing lip sealing against the conveyor ball is provided on the upper inner edge of the annular ball guide is appropriate. Since the ball guide has no force-absorbing function and, in particular, is hardly loaded in the lateral direction, such a sealing lip can be designed with a low contact pressure on the conveyor ball, so that the rolling resistance of the conveyor ball remains low despite a good seal.
It is further preferred that the ball guide is provided on the circumferential edge with a plurality of circumferential, downwardly projecting snap-in lugs which, in the assembled state, snap-fit under a horizontal flange formed on the upper edge of the bearing shell. With this configuration, after the assembly of the bearing shell, the bearing balls, the conveying ball and the ball guide, the whole arrangement is held together as a unit and also moves down as a unit within the housing against the force of the spring arrangement as soon as a force is exerted on the conveying ball becomes.
It is particularly preferred if the ball guide is formed in one piece from plastic. This means that both the sealing lips and the snap noses are components of the ball guide and are integrally formed with it.

- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the central axis of the housing along the section line II of Fig. 2.
- FIG. 2 shows a plan view of the conveyor ball unit of FIG. 1 and a broken-out part of the surrounding panel of a conveyor track; and

As is shown in particular in FIG. 1, an approximately
In the lower third, the
Due to the special aspherical shape of the bearing
The bearing
But above all, this design ensures that the ball guide 20 remains practically stress-free when the conveyor ball 1 is loaded. The ball guide 20 can therefore be shaped as a light and simple plastic part, wherein the sealing
Because of the self-centering mounting of the conveyor ball 1 and the bearing
In Fig. 3, the shape of the bearing
R1 = 12,300 mm D = 3,175 mm
R2 = 16,020 mm S1 = 0,600 mm
R3 = 10,000 mm S2 = 6,215 mm.In a practical embodiment, the following dimensions can be provided, for example:
R1 = 12.300 mm D = 3.175 mm
R2 = 16.020 mm S1 = 0.600 mm
R3 = 10,000 mm S2 = 6.215 mm.
In addition to the
