Description

The present invention relates to an elastic clamp for the automatic and removable fixing of various objects, in particular joint covers.

Such a clamp is known from document FR-A-2.116.774. It comprises an arched leaf spring having, on either side of an undercut head to be fitted into the object to be fixed, two V-shaped branches, the holding wings of which move away from the head are extended, by means of a rounded connection by free wings returning towards the head and provided with notched end edges capable of catching on the walls of the joint.

In this known clamp, the two branches are independent of each other and therefore, the joint cover is almost never placed in the axis of the joint.

Furthermore, this clamp grips very well in joints of relatively large width, but not in narrow joints.

The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks, by perfecting the clamp so that it is automatically placed in the axis of the joint and that it grips the walls of the joint regardless of its width, large or small.

To this end and in accordance with the invention, the two retaining wings are fixed to one another and arched in a V shape so as to form together a rhombus whose sides opposite to the fixing means are connected together by the head, this rhombus being deformable elastically and ensuring the pinching of said head in said object.

92, avril 1974.Another known clamp is sold by the firm MIGUA and illustrated by FIG. 22 on page 345 of the document SCHWEIZERISCHE BAUZEITUNG vol. 92, April 1974.

This MIGUA clamp includes two separate parts joined together by a rivet and by an upper crosspiece. These parts form at their upper end angles which are opposite to each other and whose free ends have tabs engaged in slots in the cross member and folded back to form a crimp. The rivet is located very close to the angles, so that the assembly formed by the angles and the crosspiece is rigid and non-deformable; in fact, the cross member is intended to be slid into the grooves of a profile and, thanks to this rigidity, the contiguous wings of the parts extend perpendicular to the profile and in the bisector plane of the free branches of said parts. Thus, when these free branches hang on the walls of the joint, the adjoining wings extend parallel to said walls and at equal distance therefrom, the profile then covering the joint, being equally distributed on both sides.

However, in the present invention, the clamp is monolithic and the means for fixing the support wings one on the other is located very close to the free wings. Consequently, the rhombus and the head do not constitute a rigid assembly, but an elastically deformable assembly so that said head normally fitted into the object to be fixed can become wedged in said object.

Advantageously, the means for fixing the two retaining wings between them is constituted in the invention by a tongue cut out in one, folded square, crossing a window of the other and folded over an edge of this window.

According to a first embodiment, the free wings diverge towards the head from the means for fixing the two holding wings.

According to a second embodiment, the free wings and divergent extensions of the retaining wings extending beyond the fixing means, form a remote hooking means, pleated in W.

Whatever the embodiment chosen, each free wing may comprise at least one arched tab whose angle at rest relative to the axis of the clamp is greater than that of the wing considered, the edge of this branch being notched for the attachment of the clamp on the walls of a wide joint and the edge of the tab being also notched for the attachment of said clamp on the walls of a narrow joint.

Various other characteristics and advantages of the invention will also emerge from the detailed description which follows.

Embodiments of the object of the invention are shown, by way of nonlimiting examples, in the accompanying drawing.

On this drawing:
  • _ Figure 1 is a perspective illustrating a first embodiment of the clamp according to the invention,
  • _ Figure 2 is a section of a support whose wide joint is equipped with pliers according to Figure 1 for the maintenance of a joint cover,
  • _ Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing the gripping of the clamp according to Figure 1 in a narrow joint of a support,
  • _ Figure 4 is a section of a second embodiment of the clamp mounted in a support with a narrow joint and chamfered edges,
  • _ Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4, showing the clamp according to Figure 4 mounted in a support whose attachment surface of the joint is remote from the outer surface.

According to the first embodiment illustrated in Figure 1, the clamp is a leaf spring 1, of metal alloy, arched to have the shape illustrated by the drawing and described in the following.

It comprises a head 2 undercut, trapezoidal in the example chosen, intended to be fitted into an underlying groove 3 of a joint cover strip 4 (Figures 2 and 3).

The sides of the head 2 are extended by two V-shaped branches 5 and 6. The branch 5 has a retaining wing 7 connected by a rounded connection 8 to a free wing 9 and likewise, the branch 6 has a retaining wing 10 connected by a rounded connection 11 to a free wing 12.

The retaining wings 7 and 10 are folded in a V to form a diamond bearing the head 2; they are fixed to each other near the rounded edges 8 and 11, but the diamond 7, 10 remains elastically deformable in order to pinch this head 2 in the groove 3 of the joint cover 4. Furthermore, the fixing the retaining wings relative to each other makes it possible to form a whole extending in the plane of symmetry of the free wings 9 and 12.

In the example shown, the fixing is a self-stapling. The free wings 7 and 10 are applied against each other by flat portions 13 and 14 extending in the above-mentioned plane of symmetry. The flat part 13 comprises a tongue 15 cut by puncture and folded square; at the conformation of the clamp, the tongue 15 is introduced into a window 16 cut in the other flat part 14, then when these parts 13 and 14 overlap and are in contact with each other, the tongue 15 is folded over an edge of the window and constitutes a fixing clip.

While the holding wings 7 and 10 move away from the head 2, the free wings 9 and 12 return towards the latter while diverging from one another.

The extreme edge of the wings 7 and 10 is notched in order to be able to hang on the walls 17 and 18 of a wide joint 19 (FIG. 2) which separates the panels 20 and 21 constituting the aforementioned support, such as a wall. The clamp 1 is normally inserted into this joint 19 to fix the joint cover 4.

In the example shown, the end of the wing 9 has two double pins 22 and 23 separated by a notch 24 and, similarly, the end of the wing 12 has two double pins 25 and 26 separated by a notch 27. The pins 22, 23, 25 and 26 are intended to hang on the walls 17 and 18 of the wide joint 19.

The notches 24 and 27 are the gaps left by the cutting of legs 28 and 29 folded back so as to form, with the axis of symmetry of the rhombus, an angle A greater than the angle B formed by the double pins 22, 23, 25, 26.

These tabs 28 and 29 are also double pins and are intended to hang on the walls 17 and 18 of a narrow joint 30 (Figure 3).

Thus, the clamp 1 can be inserted into a wide joint 19 (FIG. 2) or a narrow joint 30 (FIG. 3) and grips the walls 17 and 18 firmly whatever the width of the joint. Furthermore, the clamp 1, due to the fixing 15, 16 of the branches 5 and 6 in the shape of a diamond, keeps the joint cover perfectly in the axis of the joint. Finally, the diamond shape allows the head 2 to be tightened elastically in the joint cover.

According to the second embodiment illustrated in Figure 4, the free wings 9 and 12 provided with pins 22, 23, 28 and 25, 26, 29, are connected to the flat portions 13 and 14 by extensions 31 and 32 diverging at the 'opposite of the head 2, while said wings 9 and 12 diverge towards this head. Thus, the aforementioned pins are located away from the head and despite this, they can be brought close to each other, while being applied elastically against the walls 17 and 18 of a narrow joint 30 with sufficient force, the part of clamp attachment being indeed profiled in W.

This second embodiment of the clamp is suitable for mounting a joint cover 4 on a narrow joint 30 bordered by chamfers 33 and 34 (FIG. 4) or also on a narrow joint 30 whose hard surfaces 17 and 18 are distant from the outer surface 35 (FIG. 5), for example due to the presence of an insulating coating 36 and a coating 37.
