Description

The invention relates to a bottom-folding packer for packing cigarettes with a hollow, star-shaped folding mandrel having a revolving turret which can be incrementally incremented by one folding mandrel division, with devices for feeding both inner and outer paper and with stationary and movable folding members for folding the inner paper around a folding mandrel filled with a cigarette block and the outer paper around the inner paper folded around the folding mandrel.

Such a bottom folding packer for producing so-called soft packs is known, for example, from DE-A-3 0 46 063 or WO 80/00246. Here, inner paper is used in the form of foil coated with aluminum foil, which remains in the folded form despite the fact that no sharp edges can be folded on such a packer, even if the corresponding folding member lifts off the inner paper to fold the outer paper accordingly.

However, foil coated with aluminum foil is relatively expensive, which is why it would be desirable to be able to use metallized foil. However, when released after being folded, it essentially returns to its original shape, i.e. she jumps up. It is therefore not possible to process metallized film on a bottom folding packer.

The object of the invention is therefore a bottom folding packer of the beginning to create the type mentioned, with which metallized film can be processed as inner paper.

This object is achieved in that a suction path acting on the folding mandrels on the head side is provided over the area traversed by the folding mandrels, in which the folding of the inner paper bottom takes place until the outer paper bottom is completely closed, and the folding mandrels with holes in their radial wall trailing with respect to the direction of rotation of the turret are provided.

It is expedient here if the suction path is a channel connected to a vacuum source and extending over a circular ring section, which is provided with suction openings on the folding mandrel side, the spacing of which in the circumferential direction is less than the width of a folding mandrel, and if cover plates for the are between the folding mandrels suction path located between the folding mandrels are arranged.

The invention is explained below with reference to the embodiment shown in the accompanying figures.

Fig. 1 shows schematically and partially a front view of a turret of a page folding packer essentially in the area in which the inner and outer paper are folded.

Fig. 2a und 2b zeigen einen Faltdorn des Revolvers von Fig. 1 im Schnitt und in Frontansicht.2a and 2b show a folding mandrel of the turret of Fig. 1 in section and in front view.

Fig. 3a bis 3f zeigen verschiedene Stadien beim Falten von Innen- und Außenpapier um einen Faltdorn.3a to 3f show different stages in the folding of inner and outer paper around a folding mandrel.

The bottom folding packer shown in sections has an enveloping turret 1, the cigarette 2 in the form of a block of cigarettes, for example, via a turret (not shown), the cell in the transfer position of which is axially aligned with a hollow folding mandrel 4 of the enveloping turret 1 provided with a mouthpiece 3 on the head side, by means of a plunger (not shown). Adjacent to the enveloping turret 1 are a device (not shown) for feeding inner paper 5 and a device 6 for feeding outer paper 7. With the help of only partially illustrated stationary and movable folding members 8, 9, 10, 11, the inner paper 5 and then the outer paper 7 is folded around the folding mandrel 4, so that a bottom-closed package results which, together with the cigarette block located in the folding mandrel 4, is pushed onto a head-closing revolver, not shown, where the package is closed on the head side. The drive is a stepper drive through which the turret can be incremented by one cell division, the revolving turret 1 rotating in the direction of arrow 12. Since this is known per se, for example, from the writings mentioned at the outset, it is not dealt with in more detail here.

Fig. 3c).The supplied inner paper 5, a rectangular section of a metallized film, is first pressed by a cam-operated folding arm 8, which is mounted on the enveloping turret 1, against the side wall of the hollow folding mandrel 4 leading in the direction of rotation 12 of the enveloping revolver 1. By means of stationary (not shown) folding members, the inner paper is brought into abutment against the direction of rotation 12 against the or- and underside wall of the folding mandrel 4 and then folded over by appropriate folding levers (not shown) onto the side wall of the folding mandrel 4 trailing in the direction of rotation 12. The inner paper 5 is then held in this position by a cam-operated folding arm 9 mounted on the enveloping turret 1, cf. in particular Fig. 3b. To form the inner paper base, the protruding inner paper sections 13 trailing with respect to the direction of rotation 12 are first folded in the direction of rotation 12 by means of a folding member (not shown), after which the remaining section 14 protruding from the folding mandrel 4 by running onto a stationary folding member (not shown) against the direction of rotation 12 the sections 13 is folded over. The top and bottom tips 15 initially remain (see FIG. 3c).

Fig. 3d, 3e). Fig. 3f und 1).The outer paper 7 is then fed in by removing the folding arm 8 from the inner paper 5 and inserting the outer paper 7 upwards and downwards over the folding mandrel 4, projecting between the inner paper 5 and the folding arm 8. The folding arm 8 rests on the outside against the outer paper 7 and the folding mandrel runs between two stationary folding members 10, 11, which fold the outer paper 7 around the inner paper 5 against the direction of rotation 12. By means of two folding levers, not shown, the portions of the outer paper 7 projecting to the rear are folded over onto the inner paper 5 in the radial direction, while the folding lever 8 continues to hold the outer paper 7. Then the outer paper base is first closed by two radially movable folding thumbs (not shown), through which the tips 15 of the inner paper 5 are also folded inwards, while both folding levers 8, 9 hold the outer paper 7 pressed against the folding mandrel 4 (cf. 3d, 3e). The remaining side parts of the outer paper base are then folded one above the other by two (not shown) folding members, one of which is arranged in a stationary manner (see FIGS. 3f and 1).

So that the inner paper 5 folded around the folding mandrel 4 cannot open, in the area through which the folding mandrels 4 pass, in which the inner paper bottom is folded in until the outer paper bottom is completely closed (see FIG. 1), one of the folding mandrels 4 is on the head side, ie from the mouthpiece 3 acting suction path is provided, which consists of a connected to a vacuum source via a connection 16, extending over a circular ring section, which is provided on the folding mandrel side with suction openings 18, the circumferential distance of which is less than the width of a folding mandrel 4.

In addition, the folding mandrels 4 are provided with holes or perforations 19 in their side wall trailing with respect to the turret rotation direction 12.

This ensures that the inside of the folding mandrels 4 when the position in which the inner paper base is to be formed (Fig. 1) is applied via the suction openings 18 with vacuum, so that the gaps between the cigarettes 2 act like suction air holes and the Aspirate bottom sections 13, 14 and hold them in the folded position. The lateral holes 19, which hold the sections 5ʹ and 5ʺ of the inner paper in contact with the folding mandrel 4, act correspondingly when the lever 9 lifts therefrom, so that the outer paper 7 can also be folded onto the inner paper 5 in this area. The side holes 19 are expediently arranged in two rows one above the other such that one row holds the section 5ʹ and the other the section 5 den. In this way, a metallized film can be used as the inner paper 5 without fear that it will open again during the folding process.

To reduce the required suction air power, 4 cover plates for the suction section located between the folding mandrels 4 can be arranged between the folding mandrels, but these can possibly impair the accessibility.

For example, the channel 17 is connected to a pump with an output of 180 m³ / h, so that there is a maximum negative pressure of 225 mbar.
