Abstract

A chair has a seat and a back rest supported by a back rest support to be vertically adjustable, the back rest support being connected, on the one hand, to the back rest and, on the other hand, to the seat. In order, firstly, to enable a simple and elegant vertical adjustment and, secondly, to design the back rest and the seat to be suitable for packaging and, therefore, for dispatch, the back rest support is telescopically composed of an inner and an outer support member, and an interlocking device for the detachable interlocking of the two support members in varying positions, relative to one another, is provided on the back rest support.

Description

The invention relates to a chair according to the preamble of claim 1.

In such a chair known from GB-A-1 214 390, a telescopic backrest support is provided which is provided with a multi-purpose backrest at its upper end. This chair is primarily used for physiotherapy purposes. The height of the backrest support with backrest is adjusted using a screw or a pin-hole lock. The division of the backrest support creates two relatively short support parts. The locking device can be released relatively easily, so that a simple height adjustment of the backrest is possible. This configuration also enables tool-free assembly and disassembly of the backrest by pushing or pushing the two support parts apart when the locking device is open. The disadvantage is that the support parts can be pulled apart when adjusting the backrest, which in turn makes handling more difficult.

From GB-A-1 149 178 a backrest height adjustment for office chairs is known, in which a backrest is guided to be adjustable in height on a fixed backrest support. Are in the backrest support Recesses attached, into which a locking ball can be pressed by means of an inclined surface. This inclined surface is connected to an actuating pin which is guided in the backrest next to and parallel to the backrest support. If the inclined surface is pushed up against a return spring by appropriate actuation of the pin, the locking ball can fall out. The backrest can then be moved.

The invention has for its object to design a chair of the generic type so that it can be used as an office chair with a height-adjustable backrest and that inadvertent loosening of the two telescopic support parts is prevented with height adjustments of the backrest.

This object is achieved by the features in the characterizing part of claim 1. Characterized in that the spring serves as a pull-apart protection for the carrier parts, it is avoided that the carrier parts can be pulled apart when the locking device is released.

In particular, through the advantageous development according to claim 2, tool-free assembly and disassembly of the backrest is also possible in the embodiment according to the invention, since the associated leg of the spring for dismantling the two support parts only has to be held in the position in which the corresponding end of the spring does not to the rest area on the inner support part.

An office chair shown in Fig. 1 has a base 1, which is supported by rollers 2 against the floor. On the foot frame 1, a height-adjustable chair column 3 is attached, at the upper end of which a seat support 4 is attached, on which in turn a padded seat 5 is attached. On the seat support 4 is a essentially upward extending backrest support 6 is attached, at the upper end of a backrest 7 is attached. The height adjustment of the chair column 3 is carried out by means of an operating lever 8 mounted in the seat support 4. To change the inclination of the backrest 7 with the backrest support 6, optionally while simultaneously changing the inclination of the seat 5, a further actuating lever 9 is mounted on the seat support 4.

The basic structure of the office chair described is generally known. The height-adjustable chair column 3 is known for example from DE-PS 19 31 012 (corresponding to US Pat. No. 3,711,054) or DE-PS 18 12 282 (corresponding to US Pat. No. 3,656,593). The structure of the seat support including the described pivoting possibilities of the backrest 7 and seat 5 is known for example from EP-OS 0 179 185 (corresponding to ZA-PS 85/6126). The seat support 4 can be partially or largely covered by a panel 10 attached to the underside of the seat 5.

The backrest support 6 is designed telescopically, ie it consists of two parts guided into one another. The upper end 12 of the outer support part 11 is fastened to the backrest 7. The lower end of the inner support part 13, which is guided in the outer support part, is attached to the seat support 4.

As can be seen from FIGS. 2 to 4, in particular FIG. 4, the cross section of the two support parts 11, 13 is approximately rectangular and adapted to one another, so that the two parts can be displaced in their longitudinal direction with respect to one another but not rotated with respect to one another.

A locking device 14 is provided in order to be able to lock the two support parts 11, 13, which are displaceable in their longitudinal direction with respect to one another, in a predetermined position, in order to be able to fix a height adjustment of the backrest 7.

For this purpose, recesses 16 in the form of spherical spheres are formed on a longitudinal side 15 of the inner support part 13 and run parallel to the common central longitudinal axis 17 of the two support parts 11, 13 in the region in which the two support parts 11, 13 can be moved into one another. In this area, the central longitudinal axis 17 is a straight line.

In alignment with the row of recesses 16, an opening 18 is formed in the outer carrier part 11, in which a ball 19 is arranged, which can be placed in a respective recess 16. The spherical cap-shaped depressions 16 and the ball 19 are therefore matched to one another.

A slide 20 is provided above the ball 19 and is guided in guide rails 21. These guide rails 21 are on the larger outside Wall 22 of the outer support member 11 is attached, which is assigned to the longitudinal side 15 of the inner support 13. The direction of displacement 23 is perpendicular to the axis 17, that is to say horizontally, based on a flat floor as a seat for the chair, and parallel to the outer wall 22, that is also perpendicular to the vertical main plane of symmetry of the chair. On the slide 20, a cavity 24 partially accommodating the ball 19 is formed, which is closed off by an inclined surface 25 which is inclined in the direction of displacement 23.

The pen 20 is loaded by means of a prestressed spring 26 in such a way that it is pressed into a position shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, in which the inclined surface 25 presses against the ball 19 in such a way that it moves into a recess 16 is pressed in the inner support member 13. In this position, the inner support member 13 is locked to the outer support member 11. If the slide 20 is moved against the force of this spring 26 _ in Figures 3 and 4 to the right _ to the support parts 11, 13, then the cavity 24 under the inclined surface 25 can accommodate the ball 19 so far that it from the corresponding recess 16 is lifted out or pushed. In this case, the locking between the carrier parts 11, 13 is released; the latter can be shifted against each other in the direction of the axis 17. To actuate the slide 20, an actuation button 27 is attached to it.

The spring 26 rests with a leg 28 against an angled section 29 of the slide 2o, to which the actuating button 27 is attached. The other leg 30 is supported with an end 31 extending transversely to the outer wall 22 in a slot 32 in the outer carrier part 11.

In the narrow side 33 of the inner carrier part 13 facing this slot 32, a latching recess 34 is worked out, into which the end 31 of the leg 30 lies when the end 31 and the latching recess 34 come to coincide. This latching recess 34 is formed in the region of the inner support part 13 up to which the maximum height adjustment of the backrest support 6 is to take place. This prevents that when the slide 20 is pressed in, that is to say when the locking device 14 is open, the backrest 7 with the outer carrier part 11 is accidentally pulled off the inner carrier part 13, that is to say that it is detached from the chair. A corresponding inclined surface configuration of the latching recess 34 ensures that the outer carrier part 11 can be pushed onto the inner carrier part 13 without the end 31 of the spring 26 being fixed in this latching recess 34. To mount the outer carrier part 11 on the inner carrier part 13, only the actuation button 27 has to be pressed towards the carrier part 11, so that the ball 19 can escape into the cavity 24. So that they do not pass through the opening 18 in the outside before the assembly of the two carrier parts 11, 13 Wall 22 of the outer support part 11 falls out, the diameter of this opening 18 is slightly smaller than the diameter of the ball 19. For this reason, the ball 19 protrudes with locked support parts 11, 13 with only significantly less than half its diameter in the respective recess 16 into the inner support part 13. The result of this is that when the locking device 14 is released, the carrier parts 11, 13 can be easily moved relative to one another without the ball 19 being able to get stuck in the recess 16. It escapes very easily into the cavity 24.

The carrier parts 11, 13 are surrounded by a bellows 35 which is fixed on the one hand on the backrest 7 and on the other hand on the seat carrier 4. The actuation button 27 of the slide 20 is guided to the outside through a corresponding opening 36 in the bellows, so that actuation of the locking device 14 by the bellows 35 is possible.

Since the position of the locking device 14 to the backrest 7 is unchangeable, and since the actuation button 27 is led out of the latter through the opening 36 in the bellows 35, the bellows 35 is in the area between the actuation button 27 and the backrest 7 when the height is adjusted Backrest 7 is not compressed. In order to prevent the bellows 35 from pulling wrongly when adjusting the height, there it is pushed together or pulled apart on the side opposite to the operating button 27 in the upper region, a filler 37 adapted to the course of the bellows is arranged on the side opposite the operating button 27 between the outer carrier part 11 and the bellows 35.

Disassembly of the backrest 7 together with the outer support part 11 from the inner support part 13 with the bellows 35 installed is possible in such a way that the leg 30 of the spring 26 through the bellows 35 according to the direction of force arrow 38 against the outer support part 11 is pressed. Then the slide 20 is released by pressing the actuating button 27 and the backrest 7 with the outer support part 11 is pulled off the inner support part 13. Since the leg 30 is held in place, its end 31 cannot snap into the recess 34 when it is passed over it, so that the outer carrier part 11 can be completely removed from the inner carrier part 13 without the need for a tool. For this purpose, the bellows 35 is made in the usual way from a soft plastic with a very small thickness, that is to say considerably thinner than 1 mm.
