Description

One of the steps in rigging a surfboard is to connect the boom to the mast of the rig. In conventional surf rigs, the boom has a shaped piece on its mast-side end, which is essentially V-shaped or round and in the leg of which the fork ends are inserted. When rigging, the boom is tied tightly to the mast at a right angle to the mast using a rope known as mast rope, in order to achieve a firm connection. For this purpose, the surfer puts a stopper or similar knot around the mast with one end of the mast mast. The rest of the mast tamping he leads through a hole provided in the fitting and firmly binds mast and boom, whereby the end of the tamping is then passed through a clamp on the boom, which the release of the Ver bond prevented. By angling the boom from the approximately 90 degree position, the fastening ropes are stretched so much that the V-shaped or round contact surfaces of the fitting can deform or damage the masts, which can even lead to its breakage. This technique, which has been used up to now, has some decisive disadvantages. On the one hand, it makes rigging complex and, in particular, requires less experienced surfers to master the stopper stick or similar fastening knots at all times. So far, only such knots guarantee a sailable connection between mast and boom. The correct creation of these nodes requires a certain routine. On the other hand, disadvantages can also arise when surfing. Especially with beginners, the boom can twist relative to the mast due to incorrect handling. Since the boom, with its long length, represents an actual power arm, the mast tamping on the masts, which consists of an aluminum or plastic tube and is therefore hollow, pulls considerably when the movements are made accordingly. This can go so far that the stopper plug on the mast is contracted so much and the edges of the contact surfaces so strongly against the Masts are pressed so that the mast is pushed in. Even if it is only pushed in a little, it shows a significant weak point from now on, which can lead to buckling under heavy use.

Another, decisive disadvantage of previous connections of boom and masts is that the branches of the boom are firmly connected to each other by the fitting at the mast end of the boom. To put the boom on the masts, since it is closed, it has to be put over the masts, which is relatively cumbersome.

The object of the present invention is to provide a connection between the boom and mast of a rig, which is easier to handle and helps prevent possible kinking.

This object is achieved by a device for connecting the boom and mast of a rig, the device being non-positively connected to the mast-side ends of the boom, which is characterized in that it consists of two individual shaped pieces, each of which is fixed to a branch of the boom are connected and between them a free space for receiving the mast by at least 90 degrees close, furthermore that there are clamping means by means of which the two fittings can be releasably clamped together around the masts.

An advantageous embodiment of the device according to the invention is shown in the drawings, for example.

Es zeigt:

  • Figur 1 die Vorrichtung in Draufsicht,
  • Figur 2 die Vorrichtung in perspektivischer Ansicht.
It shows:
  • 1 shows the device in plan view,
  • Figure 2 shows the device in perspective.

In Figure 1, all components of the device essential to the invention can be seen. The two shaped pieces 1, 2 surround the mast 3 shown here in cross section. Each shaped piece 1, 2 has a cylindrical recess 4, into which the fork ends 5 can be inserted. In order to achieve a more stable clamping grip, the clamping surfaces 6 are shaped as segments of an inner cylinder wall and are somewhat extended on both sides of the device in the direction of the mast, whereby lips 7 are formed which can be braced over ribs for reinforcement. The clamping surfaces 6 are with a non-slip, rubber provided elastic plastic material 10. The two shaped pieces 1, 2 have holes 11 through which the starting bulkhead can be guided. A flexible tab 8 is attached to one shaped piece and is guided around the mast 3 to be enclosed by at least 60 degrees. At the end of this tab 8, a hook 9 is formed, on which a U-shaped clip 12 can be hung. The lips 7 are largely enclosed by the tab 8 and the clasp 12, which are tensioned by means of a buckle 13. Overall, the clamping clip 12 and the tab 8 together span the masts 3 to be clamped in by at least 180 degrees. The clamping force is thereby continuously distributed over the entire circumference of the mast 3. The tab is advantageously made of metal and riveted to the fitting 2. The two leg ends 15 of the U-shaped clip 12 are pivotally attached to the buckle 13. The buckle 13 itself is designed so that it works according to the lever law. It is pivotably placed on a specially shaped support surface 20, which has a series of joint socket-like depressions 21. In it, the buckle 13 can be pivoted about the pivot point 16 formed by its joint head 22. The distance between this fulcrum 16 and the attachment location 17th thereby forms a load arm, while the area between pivot point 16 and buckle handle 18 forms a power arm. Due to the fact that the clamping clip 12 passes the pivot point 16 as zenith in the closing direction of the buckle 13, the clip 12 comes to lie between the pivot point 16 and the buckle handle 18 when the buckle 13 is closed. This achieves self-locking, which effectively prevents the buckle 13 from opening independently. The end 19 of the buckle handle 18 is flush with the boom 5, thereby preventing the buckle 13 from being inadvertently opened. This also reduces the risk of injury to the closed buckle 13. A joint socket 21 for the part of the buckle 13 forming a joint head 22 is formed by each recess 21 of the bearing surface 20. Depending on the recess 21 in which this joint head 22 is placed, a more or less strong clamping or clamping force results. Since the two fittings 1 and 2 can be completely symmetrical, they can be produced using only one injection mold, which is also smaller and therefore cheaper than one for a conventional V-shaped fitting.

The design of the individual components of the The device according to the invention may well deviate from the example described here.

In Figure 2, the embodiment shown in Figure 1 and already described is shown in perspective. It can be clearly seen that the clamping surfaces 6 on both sides of the device are somewhat extended by forming lips 7. As a result, the clamping handle is reinforced and the torsional stability compared to the mast 3 is increased. So that the lips 7 can better absorb the forces that occur, they can be reinforced with ribs. The clamping surfaces 6 are also provided with a non-slip, rubber-elastic plastic material 10. This protects the mast 3 and the boom 5 can be moved somewhat relative to the mast 3 depending on the selected clamping force.

The device according to the invention allows the surfboard to be rigged up more quickly. Because the boom is divisible at the front, i.e. its two branches can be spread apart, it can simply be placed around the rig, or around the sail and masts, after which the device is clamped together using the buckle. In addition, the handling of this device is significantly easier than the handling of the mast rope, which now completely eliminated. The surfer no longer needs to master the stopper stick or other suitable knots and can therefore no longer experience surprises on the water that can result from an incorrectly attached fastening knot. Even in the event of falls and other unusual movements by the surfer, the clean connection between mast 3 and boom 5 always remains. There is no longer any rope that could compress and damage the masts in such situations due to strong constriction. The contact surfaces twist less and their edges can no longer impress the masts. As a result, weakened areas on the masts can no longer arise and kinking is no longer possible for this reason.
