Definitions
- the invention relates to an inexpensive martensitic steel, in particular for the production of plastic molds.
- the steel In the solution-annealed condition, the steel should have a strength of 900 to 1100 N / mm 2 and should therefore be easy to machine.
- a simple aging treatment at 400 to 500 ° C should then achieve tensile strength values of at least 1200 N / mm 2 .
- plastic molds mainly 40 CrMnMo 7 plastic mold steel, material no. 1.2311 or the sulfur-alloyed variant 40 CrMnMoS 86, material no. 1.2312 used. These steels are tempered by the manufacturer to tensile strength values of 900 to 1100 N / mm 2 and processed into tools in this state. Subsequent heat treatment of the tools would lead to impermissible dimensional changes, warping or surface impairments. From this, however, there arises the requirement that the hardening strength remains limited to 1100 to 1200 N / mm 2 , because higher strength values would make machining more difficult.
- the object of the invention was therefore to propose a steel which has a low strength and thus good machinability in the delivery state and which has a strength of only after the completion of the tools, by means of a simple heat treatment, which does not lead to any change in size or surface at least 1200 N / mm 2 can be brought.
- the conventional martensitic hardenable steels with 18% nickel, 8% cobalt, 5% molybdenum and up to 1.4% titanium, which have a tensile strength of approx. 1000 N / mm 2 and can be hardened to strength values above 2000 N / mm 2 are only of limited use due to their high alloy content and the associated costs for the production of plastic molds.
- the steel according to the invention is an iron alloy with 8 to 14% manganese as the main component. Manganese contents of 8% already lead to favorable properties, the optimal manganese content is approx. 12%.
- the steel is also enriched with alloying elements that are dissolved in austenite when heated to temperatures above 800 ° C and remain dissolved in martensite even after quenching to room temperature. It is a combination of the alloy elements C ,, Si, Ti and Al as compulsory components and Mo, W, Co and Ni as optional components.
- the silicon content of at least 0.5% is necessary in order to achieve sufficiently high hardness values even with realistic aging times of 10 to 20 h, see Figure 2.
- An increase in this effect without impairing the toughness is caused by the addition of nickel, which is used in a The order of magnitude of 1 to 2% should be, see Figure 3.
- Titan is significantly involved in the formation of intermetallic phases and therefore contributes significantly to the increase in hardness, see Figure 4.
- Claims 2 and 3 contain a preferred composition.

Abstract
